Bipolar disorder is a serious mental condition that may be caused by any kind of stress or emotional upset experienced by the patient.It affects a large percentage of people globally,who fluctuate between depression and mania,or vice versa.A pleasant or unpleasant mood is more than a reflection of a state of mind.Normally,it is a difficult task to analyze through physical examination due to a large patient-psychiatrist ratio,so automated procedures are the best options to diagnose and verify the severity of bipolar.In this research work,facial microexpressions have been used for bipolar detection using the proposed Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)-based model.Facial Action Coding System(FACS)is used to extract micro-expressions called Action Units(AUs)connected with sad,happy,and angry emotions.Experiments have been conducted on a dataset collected from Bahawal Victoria Hospital,Bahawalpur,Pakistan,Using the Patient Health Questionnaire-15(PHQ-15)to infer a patient’s mental state.The experimental results showed a validation accuracy of 98.99%for the proposed CNN modelwhile classification through extracted featuresUsing SupportVectorMachines(SVM),k-NearestNeighbour(kNN),and Decision Tree(DT)obtained 99.9%,98.7%,and 98.9%accuracy,respectively.Overall,the outcomes demonstrated the stated method’s superiority over the current best practices.

Energy resources are critical for human existence.The energy that we use is obtained from the Earth,its atmosphere,or the Sun.Some of these energy resources we obtain from the subsurface through the mining or extraction process,like gas,coal,oil,geothermal,and uranium.Furthermore,we also harness from the surface like wind,solar,and tidal.Geoscientists and geological engineers play a critical role in developing energy resources,maintaining its operation,and evaluating their environmental impacts.In recent years,the advancement in satellite and aerial remote sensing is a tool that is widely used by geoscientists and engineers to address various aspects of energy resources.The application of remote sensing to energy resources,starting from reconnaissance to detailed studies,utilizing multispectral to hyperspectral and radar to LiDAR techniques,have gained significant importance.Some remote sensing applications include identifying potential source of fuels used in the energy.

Phase-field modeling is an effective but computationally expensive method for capturing the mesoscale morphological and microstructure evolution in materials.Hence,fast and generalizable surrogate models are needed to alleviate the cost of computationally taxing processes such as in optimization and design of materials.The intrinsic discontinuous nature of the physical phenomena incurred by the presence of sharp phase boundaries makes the training of the surrogate model cumbersome.We develop a framework that integrates a convolutional autoencoder architecture with a deep neural operator(DeepONet)to learn the dynamic evolution of a two-phase mixture and accelerate time-to-solution in predicting the microstructure evolution.We utilize the convolutional autoencoder to provide a compact representation of the microstructure data in a low-dimensional latent space.After DeepONet is trained in the latent space,it can be used to replace the high-fidelity phase-field numerical solver in interpolation tasks or to accelerate the numerical solver in extrapolation tasks.

This paper provides a review of using Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar(InSAR),a microwave remote sensing technique,for deformation monitoring of hydroelectric power projects,a critical infrastructure that requires consistent and reliable monitoring.Almost all major dams around the world were built for the generation of hydropower.InSAR can enhance dam safety by providing timely settlement measurements at high spatial-resolution.This paper provides a holistic view of different InSAR deformation monitoring techniques such as Differential Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry(DInSAR),Ground-Based Synthetic Aperture Radar(GBInSAR),Persistent Scatterer Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar(PSInSAR),Multi-Temporal Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar(MTInSAR),QuasiPersistent Scatterer Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar(QPSInSAR)and Small BAseline Subset(SBAS).PSInSAR,GBInSAR,MTInSAR,and DInSAR techniques were quite commonly used for deformation studies.These studies demonstrate the advantage of InSAR-based techniques over other conventional methods,which are laborious,costly,and sometimes unachievable.InSAR technology is also favoured for its capability to provide monitoring data at all times of day or night,in all-weather conditions,and particularly for wide areas with mm-scale precision.However,the method also has some disadvantages,such as the maximum deformation rate that can be monitored,and the location for monitoring cannot be dictated.Through this review,we aim to popularize InSAR technology to monitor the deformation of dams,which can also be used as an early warning method to prevent any unprecedented catastrophe.This study also discusses some case studies from southern India to demonstrate the capabilities of InSAR to indirectly monitor dam health.

Functional and clinical outcome with modified lateral approach total hip arthroplasty in stiff hips with ankylosing spondylitis

BACkGROUND Ankylosing spondylitis at total hip arthroplasty(THA)has significant hip stiffness with flexion deformity,restricted mobility,and function.Range of movement(ROM)improvement with good functional outcome is seen following THA in these hips.The modified Hardinge approach without abductor compromise is helpful in these stiff hips with associated flexion deformity.AIM To assess improvement in ROM and functional outcomes with a modified lateral approach THA in ankylosing spondylitis with stiff hips.METHODS A total of 69 hips that underwent THA with a modified Hardinge approach in 40 patients were evaluated at a mean follow-up of 38.33 mo.All individuals ambulated with weight-bearing as tolerated and ROM exercises from the 1st postoperative day.Modified Harris hip score and ROM were assessed during follow-up.Quality of life assessments using the 36-item and 12-item short form health surveys were done along with clinical and functional outcomes at followup.SPSS 22.0 was used for statistical analysis.The correlation of ROM and functional score change was performed using Pearson’s correlation coefficient.RESULTS Sixty-nine hips with a significant decrease in ROM preoperatively with 32 clinically fused hips showed significant improvement in flexion range.The mean flexion in 69 hips improved from 29.35±31.38 degrees to 102.17±10.48 degrees.The mean difference of 72.82 with a P value<0.0001 was significant.In total,45 out of 69 hips had flexion deformity,with 13 hips having a deformity above 30 degrees.The flexion during the follow-up was below 90 degrees in 3 hips.Eleven hips had flexion of 90 degrees at follow-up,while the remaining 55 hips had flexion above 100 degrees.Modified Harris hip score improved from 17.03±6.02 to 90.66±7.23(P value<0.0001).The 36-item short form health survey at the follow-up indicated health status in 40 patients as excellent in 11,very good in 20,good in 5,fair in 3,and poor in 1.The mean mental health score was 84.10±11.58.Pain relief was good in all 69 hips.Altogether,28/40 patients

Prehospital response to respiratory distress by the public ambulance system in a Ukrainian city

BACkGROUND: The capability of the public ambulance system in Ukraine to address urgent medical complaints in a prehospital environment is unknown. Evaluation using reliable sources of patient data is needed to provide insight into current treatments and outcomes. METHODS: We obtained access to de-identifi ed computer records from the emergency medical services(EMS) dispatch center in Poltava, a medium-sized city in central Ukraine. Covering a fi vemonth period, we retrieved data for urgent calls with a patient complaint of respiratory distress. We evaluated ambulance response and treatment times, field diagnoses, and patient disposition, and analyzed factors related to fatal outcomes. RESULTS: Over the f ive-month period of the study, 2,029 urgent calls for respiratory distress were made to the Poltava EMS dispatch center. A physician-led ambulance typically responded within 10 minutes. Seventy-seven percent of patients were treated and released, twenty percent were taken to hospital, and three percent died in the prehospital phase. On univariate analysis, age over 60 and altered mental status at the time of the call were strongly associated with a fatal outcome. CONCLUSION: The EMS dispatch center in a medium-sized city in Ukraine has adequate organizational infrastructure to ensure that a physician-led public ambulance responds rapidly to complaints of respiratory distress. That EMS system was able to manage most patients without requiring hospital admission. However, a prehospital fatality rate of three percent suggests that further research is warranted to determine training, equipment, or procedural needs of the public ambulance system to manage urgent medical conditions.

Early warning system for shallow landslides using rainfall threshold and slope stability analysis

A combined cluster and regression analysis were performed for the first time to identify rainfall threshold that triggers landslide events in Amboori, kerala, India. Amboori is a tropical area that is highly vulnerable to landslides. The 2, 3, and 5-day antecedent rainfall data versus daily rainfall was clustered to identify a cluster of critical events that could potentially trigger landslides. Further, the cluster of critical events was utilized for regression analysis to develop the threshold equations. The 5-day antecedent(xvariable) vs. daily rainfall(y-variable) provided the best fit to the data with a threshold equation of y = 80.7-0.1981 x. The intercept of the equation indicates that if the 5-day antecedent rainfall is zero, the minimum daily rainfall needed to trigger the landslide in the Amboori region would be 80.7 mm. The negative coefficient of the antecedent rainfall indicates that when the cumulative antecedent rainfall increases, the amount of daily rainfall required to trigger monsoon landslide decreases. The coefficient value indicates that the contribution of the 5-day antecedent rainfall is～20% to the landslide trigger threshold. The slope stability analysis carried out for the area, using Probabilistic Infinite Slope Analysis Model(PISA-m), was utilized to identify the areas vulnerable to landslide in the region. The locations in the area where past landslides have occurred demonstrate lower Factors of Safety(FS) in the slope stability analysis. Thus, rainfall threshold analysis together with the FS values from slope stability can be suitable for developing a simple, cost-effective, and comprehensive early-warning system for shallow landslides in Amboori and similar regions.

Landslides are one of the most common and a destructive natural hazard in mountainous terrain and thus evaluating their potential locations and the conditions under which they may occur is crucial for their hazard assessment.Shallow landslide occurrence in soil and regolith covered slopes are often modeled using the infinite slope model,which characterizes the slope stability in terms of a factor of safety(FS) value.Different approaches have been followed to also assess and propagate uncertainty through such models.Haneberg(2004) introduced the use of the First Order Second Moment(FOSM) method to propagate input uncertainty through the infinite slope model,further developing the model and implementing it in the PISA-m software package(Haneberg,2007).Here we present an ArcPy implementation of PISA-m algorithms,which can be run from ESRI ArcMap in an entirely consistent georeferenced framework,and which we call "GIS Tool for Infinite Slope Stability Analysis"(GIS-TISSA).Users can select between different input options,e.g.,following a similar input style as for PISA-m,i.e., using an ASCII.csv parameters input file,or providing each input parameter as a raster or constant value,through the program graphic user interface.Analysis outputs can include FS mean and standard deviation estimates,the probability of failure(FS k acceleration can also be done,for which raster files of the mean,standard deviation,probability of exceedance,and RI are also generated.Verification of the code is done by replicating the results obtained with the PISA-m code for different input options,within a 10-5 relative error.Monte Carlo modeling is also applied to validate GIS-TISSA outputs,showing a good overall correspondence.A case study was performed for kannur district,kerala,India,where an extensive landslide databa se for the year 2018 was available.81.19% of the actual landslides fell in zones identified by the model
