Our earlier studies have demonstrated that the cigarette smoke in the form of cigarette smoke condensate(CSC)causes growth arrest of a mouse spermatocyte cell line[GC-2spd(ts)]through activation of the AHR–NRF2 *** present study demonstrates the CSC-activated p38 and ERK MAPK signaling in GC-2spd(ts)via arylhydrocarbon receptor(AHR).Pharmacological inhibition by using AHR-antagonist,or p38 MAPK and ERK(MEK1)inhibitors significantly abrogates CSC-induced growth arrest by AHR and MAPK ***-PCR,western blot,and immunofluorescence of Ahr-target of Nrf2,and stress-inducible growth suppressive Atf3 and E2f4 following treatments indicate a crosstalk among these *** of Atf3 by Nrf2 and Ahr through RNA interference suggests the existence of a cross-regulatory loop between the *** induction of E2f4 via Atf3 and its regulation by pharmacological inhibitors reveal a possible regulatory mechanism of growth inhibitory *** silencing of Ahr,Nrf2,Atf3,and E2f4 genes and downregulation of cyclins by CSC corroborate the growth inhibitory effect of cigarette ***,the data obtained suggest that the CSC-mediated MAPKs and AHR–NRF2 crosstalks lay the molecular basis for the growth arrest and cell death of spermatocytes.

Diurnal variation in phloem sap composition has a strong infuence on aphid *** sugar-rich phloem sap serves as the sole diet for aphids and a suite of physiological mechanisms and behaviors allowv them to tolerate the high osmotic ***,we tested the hypothesis that night-time feeding by aphids is a behavior that takes advantage of the low sugar diet in the night to compensate for osmotic stress incurred while feeding on high sugar diet during the *** the electrical penetration graph(EPG)*** examined the eiects of diurmal rhythm on feeding behaviors of bird cherry-oat aphid(Rhopalosiphurm padi L.)on wheat.A strong diurmal rhythm in aphids as indicated by the presence of a cyclical pattern of expression in a core clock gene did not impact aphid feeding and similar feeding behaviors were observed during day and *** major difference observed between day and night feeding was that aphids spent significantly longer time in phloem salivation during the night compared to the *** contrast,aphid hydration was reduced at the end of the day-time feeding compared to end of the night-time *** expression analysis of *** osmoregulatory genes indicated that sugar break down and water transport into the aphid gut was reduced at *** data suggest that while diumal variation occurs in phloem sap composition,aphids use night time feeding to overcome the high osmotic stress incurred while feeding on sugar-rich phloem sap during the day.

BACKGROUND The impact of the coronavirus on hospitalizations for gastrointestinal(GI)disease,particularly at a population level is *** To investigate trends in hospitalizations,inpatient endoscopy resource utilization,and outcomes during the first year of the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent *** Using the California State Inpatient Database for 2018-2020,we explored year-toyear and 2020 month-to-month trends in hospitalizations,length of stay,and inpatient mortality(all-cause&viral pneumonia-specific)for common inpatient GI diagnoses including acute pancreatitis,diverticulitis,cholelithiasis,noninfectious gastroenteritis,upper and lower GI bleeding(LGIB),Clostridium difficile,viral gastroenteritis,inflammatory bowel disease,and acute *** Disease-specific hospitalizations decreased for all included conditions except nonvariceal upper GI bleeding(NVUGIB),LGIB,and ulcerative colitis(UC)(ptrend<0.0001).Allcause inpatient mortality was higher in 2020 vs 2019,for acute pancreatitis(P=0.029),diverticulitis(P=0.04),NVUGIB(P=0.003),and Crohn’s disease(P=0.004).In 2020,hospitalization rates were lowest in April,November,and *** was no significant corresponding increase in inpatient mortality except in UC(ptrend=0.048).Viral pneumonia and viral pneumonia complicated by respiratory failure increased(P<0.001)among GI *** utilization within 24 h of admission was unchanged for GI emergencies except NVUGIB(P<0.001).CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that hospitalization rates for common GI conditions significantly declined in California during the COVID pandemic,particularly in April,November and December *** mortality was significantly higher among acute pancreatitis,diverticulitis,NVUGIB,and Crohn’s disease *** endoscopy rates were mostly comparable between 2020 and 2019.

With the shift from conventional to green buildings a need emerges to train staff on how to work within ***-ing occupants control many of the green building technologies,which makes it necessary to educate occupants on the differences between using a green building versus a conventional building in order to secure the green building’s *** breadth of information that is necessary for an occupant to know in order to change their behaviors to be in accord with the high performing building they occupy makes it necessary to use a systematic method to reduce the in-formation provided in *** study employs a decision matrix approach as an objective means to narrow the focus of the training.A case study is used to implement the methods developed in this study.A focus group evaluated the effectiveness of the decision *** from the focus group showed that staff was active in waste reduction behaviors,but not in energy efﬁcient *** supported the outcome of the decision matrix inﬁnding relevant,necessary information for the training.
