Shoot-to-root communication is crucial for plant acclimation to phosphorus （P）-deficiency. Both sugars and miRNAs have been implicated as potential signal molecules transported through phloem from shoot to root for the reg- ulation of gene expression and Pi uptake in the root. By studying the expression patterns of both a serine/threonine phos- phatase gene （PvHAD1） and microRNA399 （miR399） in common bean （Phaseolus vulgaris L.）, we provide evidence for the interaction between light, phloem transport, and miR399 in the systemic regulation of gene expression under P-deficiency. Especially, miR399 expression in both the shoot and the root requires photosynthetic carbon assimilation during the onset of P-deficiency. In contrast to systemic signaling, local sensing was the primary causal factor for rapid down-regulation of PvHAD1 by Pi prior to the reduction of miR399 level in P-deficient roots. Furthermore, this initial response to Pi in P-de- ficient root was also mimicked by the Pi analog, phosphonate （Phi）. Our current findings suggest that plants have developed a highly coordinated dual regulatory pathway, namely long-distance signaling of P-deficiency from shoot to root versus local sensing of Pi in the root.

The shape and size of particles are understood to affect the bulk behaviour of powders, though there are but few studies that present quantitative information on the relationship between particle shape and the flow properties of powder. This is due in part to the lack of techniques for rapidly determining both particle shape and the range of flow characteristics that describe the response of powders to the stress and shear experienced during their processing. This study presents data that quantifies the influence of particle shapeJsize of three different lactose powders on their respective flow and bulk characteristics. Two of the samples differ in size but have similar shapes; the third sample is more spherical but similar in size to one of the other two samples, The results demonstrate that in addition to particle size, particle shape significantly affect the flow characteristics of a powder over a wide range of stress conditions.

Mountain farming provides high-quality food products due to the peculiar characteristics of the raw materials combined with traditional processing conditions. However, these products and their intrinsic characteristics are not clearly recognized by consumers on the market. Nowadays, Protected Designation of Origin(PDO), Protected Geographical Indication(PGI) and Traditional Specialities Guaranteed(TSG) certifications include products originating in mountain areas, even if a large part of mountain foodstuff is not protected by these certifications and foods not made in mountain areas are often labeled as ―mountain food products‖. For this reason, the European Union has set a specific Regulation in 2012 to recognize and protect mountain food and to make the consumers safer about the origin information. The objective of this paper is twofold: firstly, it presents the recent aspects related to European legislation of mountain food product; secondly, it aims at reviewing the main features of nutritional quality and technology of dairy and meat products, as the most widespread mountain food products, and the main protocols used to evaluate the authenticity of these food products. The promotion of mountain food product through a specific label and the use of tracing methods, which are able to verify the authenticity of the origin of these products, may play a pivotal role in increasing the consumer‘s loyalty towards these products and could be a way to boost a sustainable development of these economically marginal rural areas. However, the analytical protocols developed so far(stable isotopes, macro and microelements, radionuclides, spectroscopic, molecular techniques, volatile substances profile, terpenes) are in many cases still at the experimental level due to the extreme variability of the mountain origin of the products to be tested.

Vectored vaccines based on highly attenuated modified vaccinia Ankara(MVA) are reported to be immunogenic, tolerant to pre-existing immunity, and able to accommodate and stably maintain very large transgenes. MVA is usually produced on primary chicken embryo fibroblasts, but production processes based on continuous cell lines emerge as increasingly robust and cost-effective alternatives. An isolate of a hitherto undescribed genotype was recovered by passage of a nonplaque-purified preparation of MVA in a continuous anatine suspension cell line(***) in chemically defined *** novel isolate(MVA-CR19) replicated to higher infectious titers in the extracellular volume of suspension cultures and induced fewer syncytia in adherent cultures. We now extend previous studies with the investigation of the point mutations in structural genes of MVA-CR19 and describe an additional point mutation in a regulatory gene. We furthermore map and discuss an extensive rearrangement of the left telomer of MVA-CR19 that appears to have occurred by duplication of the right telomer. This event caused deletions and duplications of genes that may modulate immunologic properties of MVACR19 as a vaccine vector. Our characterizations also highlight the exceptional genetic stability of plaque-purified MVA:although the phenotype of MVA-CR19 appears to be advantageous for replication, we found that all genetic markers that differentiate wildtype and MVA-CR19 are stably maintained in passages of recombinant viruses based on either wildtype or MVA-CR.

Burninjury significantly impacts the victim's long-term quality of life, both physical y and psychosocial y. This prospective, observational study aimed to assess the physical and psychological health status in adult burn survivors in Sydney Australia using the Burns Specific Health Scale-Brief Version (BSHS-B) questionnaire, together with analysis of the baseline demographic data col ected from medical records. A total of 24 adult acute burn victims admitted consecutively to the Burns Unit at Concord Repatriation General Hospital, Sydney, Australia between March 2007 and February 2009 fulfil ed the inclusion criteria and participated in the study. The BSHS-B questionnaire (which includes nine domains or subscales) was administered to al 24 participants in person at time of discharge and by mail 6, 12, and 24 months post discharge. By 12 months, 11 participants dropped out and the final analysis was performed on the remaining 13 participants. The analyzed results showed that: 1) Perceived return to work was the only variable that continued to change with time at 12 months after discharge (P < 0.01);2) At 12 months;return to work was significantly correlated with simple functional ability (P < 0.05), heat sensitivity (P < 0.01), and treatment regimes (P < 0.05), but no longer with affect and body image as demonstrated at 6 months. In summary, our findings have shown that the perception of returning to work changes significantly with time post discharge and this perception is affected by certain subscales of the BSHS-B. Given that return to work is one of the most important outcome concerns and issues of recovery for adult burn injury victims and families, it is essential that therapists be aware of the factors influencing return to work and address these factors through a comprehensive rehabilitation program.

We report the case of a 21-year-old man who was noted to have pneumomedi astinum during an admission for an acute flare of ulcerative *** that time,he was on maintenance treatment with azathioprine at a dose of 1.25 mg/kg per day,and had not received supplementary steroids for 9 mo. He had never received anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF)α*** after apparently effective treatment with intravenous steroids and an increased dose of azathioprine,he developed worsening colitic and new respiratory symptoms,and was diagnosed with Pneumocystis jiroveci(carinii)pneumonia(PCP). Pneumomediastinum is rare in immunocompetent hosts,but is a recognized complication of PCP in human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)patients, although our patient’s HIV test was negative. Treatment of PCP with co-trimoxazole resulted in resolution of both respiratory and gastrointestinal symptoms,without the need to increase the steroid *** is increasing vigilance for opportunistic infections in patients with inflammatory bowel disease following the advent of anti-TNFαtherapy. This case emphasizes the importance of considering the possibility of such infections in all patients with inflammatory bowel disease,irrespective of the immunosuppressants they receive,and highlights the potential of steroid-responsive opportunistic infections to mimic worsening colitic symptoms in patients with ulcerative colitis.

Dear Editor:Central nervous system tumors in the brain or spine are the most common solid tumors in children,which accounts for about 25%of cancers in children younger than 15 years of age,and are the most common cause of cancer deaths in children[1].The 5-year survival rate for central nervous system neoplasms has increased dramatically to 74%for patients under 18 years old(97%for benign/borderline malignant tumors)in 2022,compared to 20%in the 1970s[1].Without cure treatments and specific medications for many brain cancers,the dramatic increase of survival rate is largely due to improved hospital care and availability of clinical *** length of hospitalization of pediatric patients with brain cancer is an important indicator of prognosis as it reflects the required medical effort needed to care for these *** length of hospitalization is also critical for the healthcare system as hospital admission is a part of the care trajectory of the respective patients,related to the cost of medical care[2,3].

Cells of specialized secretory organs expand their secretory pathways to accommodate the increased protein load necessary for their function. The endoplasmic reticulum （ER）, the Golgi apparatus and the secretory vesicles, expand not only the membrane components but also the protein machinery required for increased protein production and transport. Increased protein load causes an ER stress response akin to the Unfolded Protein Response （UPR）. Recent work has implicated several bZip transcription factors in the regulation of protein components of the early secretory pathway necessary to alleviate this stress. Here, we highlight eight bZip transcription factors in regulating secretory pathway component genes. These include components of the three canonical branches of the UPR-ATF4, XBP1, and ATF6, as well as the five members of the Creb3 family of transcription factors. We review findings from both invertebrate and vertebrate model systems suggesting that all of these proteins increase secretory capacity in response to increased protein load. Finally, we propose that the Creb3 family of factors may have a dual role in secretory cell differentiation by also regulating the pathways necessary for cell cycle exit during terminal differentiation.
