Helicobacter pylori infection and esophageal cancer risk:An updated meta-analysis

AIM:To clarify the association between Helicobacter pylori(***)infection and the risk of esophageal carcinoma through a meta-analysis of published ***:Studies which reported the association between *** infection and esophageal cancer published up to June 2013 were *** odds ratios(ORs)and corresponding 95%CIs of *** on esophageal cancer with respect to health control groups were *** were extracted independently by two investigators and discrepancies were resolved by discussion with a third *** statistical software,STATA(version 12.0),was applied to investigate heterogeneity among individual studies and to summarize the studies.A meta-analysis was performed using a fixed-effect or random-effect method,depending on the absence or presence of significant ***:No significant association between *** infection and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)risk was found in the pooled overall population(OR=0.97,95%CI:0.76-1.24).However,significant associations between *** infection and ESCC risk were found in Eastern subjects(OR=0.66,95%CI:0.43-0.89).Similarly,cytotoxin-associated gene-A(CagA)positive strains of infection may decrease the risk of ESCC in Eastern subjects(OR=0.77,95%CI:0.65-0.92),however,these associations were not statistically significant in Western subjects(OR=1.26,95%CI:0.97-1.63).For esophageal adenocarcinoma(EAC)the summary OR for *** infection and CagA positive strains of infection were 0.59(95%CI:0.51-0.68)and 0.56(95%CI:0.45-0.70),***:*** infection is associated with a decreased risk of ESCC in Eastern populations and a decreased risk of EAC in the overall population.

The recent advances in functional genomics have discovered that a large number of long non-coding RNAs(lncRNAs)are pervasively transcribed from the human *** evidence further indicates that lncRNAs are important for gene expression during cell differentiation and development through various mechanisms such as nuclear organization,post-transcription regulation,alternative splicing,and epigenetic ***,aberrant expression of lncRNAs can cause abnormality in those cellular functions and lead to various pathological *** of such fatal consequences is cancer metastasis which is responsible for more than 90%of cancer-related deaths.A good understanding of how lncRNAs regulate different genetic and epigenetic changes during different stages of cancer metastasis is important not only for general cancer biology but also for identification of novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets for treatment of metastatic cancer.A significant progress has been made regarding the role of lncRNAs in cancer for past several *** this study,we first discuss general functions of lncRNAs and then highlight recent findings of how lncRNAs impact cancer metastasis,and finally we provide our perspectives on clinical implications of lncRNAs.

Radiation belt electron wisp inside South Atlantic Anomaly due to terrestrial VLF transmitter observed by MSS-1

The South Atlantic Anomaly represents a region within near-Earth space characterized by a significantly weaker geomagnetic field and a higher flux of energetic particles compared to other areas. It is a space weather hazards to Low-EarthOrbit satellites. There has been evidence that the Very Low Frequency(VLF) waves from the powerful ground VLF radio transmitter in Australia, known as NWC, have the capacity to scatter energetic electrons' pitch angle in the inner radiation *** scattering directs electrons into the drift loss cone, forms a “wisp”, characterized by its peak intensity outside the South Atlantic Anomaly(SAA), and a “rift” exhibiting minimal intensity within SAA. Our findings mark the initial observation of a“wisp” precipitation, an unusual occurrence with peak intensity detected inside the SAA, observed via the Macao Science Satellite-1. Enabled by the Medium-energy Electron Spectrometer onboard Macao Science Satellite-1, we were able to comprehensively measure the full pitch angle distribution at Low-Earth-Orbit. This allowed us to attribute the “wisp” within the anomaly to a specific pitch angle range just outside the drift loss cone, a measurement unattainable by previous satellites. This“wisp” occurrence aligns with previous model predictions, despite being overlooked. Moreover, we distinguished between the trapped and precipitating electron populations. Directly derived from the ratio of these populations, our analysis revealed that approximately 2%-5% of trapped electrons will be lost in this specific wisp due to the influence of the ground VLF *** results not only complement existing evidence of energetic electron pitch angle scattering facilitated by the ground VLF transmitter but also offer a quantitative estimation of its impact.

Simulations of electron zebra stripes in the inner radiation belt using a composite empirical electric field model

The phenomenon termed“zebra stripes”manifests as regular patterns in the energy-space(L shell)spectrum of energetic electrons(ranging from tens to hundreds ke V)within the inner radiation *** structures exhibit drift-periodic behavior and commonly arise from large-scale electric field perturbations near the substorm *** this study,we introduce a composite electric field model and replicate the formation,structure,and evolution of zebra stripes using a bounce-averaged test particle code under this electric field ***-resolution measurements of energetic electrons obtained from the Van Allen Probes and the recently launched Macao Science Satellites-1 are used as initial conditions and served to validate our test particle *** analyses between observed data and simulations demonstrate our test particle method's efficacy in capturing zebra stripes'general ***,the composite model proves capable of reproducing realistic variations in the electric field within the inner radiation belt to a certain ***,subtle differences emerge in the flux strength and the positions of *** disparities primarily stem from limitations inherent in the electric field model and the initial conditions of the *** that the model represents an average case,it is conceivable that real-world scenarios may deviate from the average,thereby introducing variations in the observed phenomena.

Establishing the vector-meson-exchange dominance for the short range interactions of light quarks

Understanding the interactions between constituent quarks is one of the fundamental and challenging problems in hadron physics. At present, the constituent quark models have achieved great success in describing the properties of hadrons, whereas some long-standing disputes remain, especially for the short range interactions between constituent quarks. In exploring the dynamic mechanism between u/d quarks, it is found that the one gluon exchange and/or vector meson exchange induced interactions may dominate the short range interactions [1].

Integrated Equipment with Functions of Current Flow Control and Fault Isolation for Multiterminal DC Grids

The multi-terminal direct current(DC)grid has extinctive superiorities over the traditional alternating current system in integrating large-scale renewable *** the DC circuit breaker(DCCB)and the current flow controller(CFC)are demanded to ensure the multiterminal DC grid to operates reliably and ***,since the CFC and the DCCB are all based on fully controlled semiconductor switches(e.g.,insulated gate bipolar transistor,integrated gate commutated thyristor,etc.),their separation configuration in the multiterminal DC grid will lead to unaffordable implementation costs and conduction power *** solve these problems,integrated equipment with both current flow control and fault isolation abilities is proposed,which shares the expensive and duplicated components of CFCs and DCCBs among adjacent *** addition,the complicated coordination control of CFCs and DCCBs can be avoided by adopting the integrated equipment in themultiterminal DC *** order to examine the current flow control and fault isolation abilities of the integrated equipment,the simulation model of a specific meshed four-terminal DC grid is constructed in the PSCAD/EMTDC ***,the comparison between the integrated equipment and the separate solution is presented a specific result or conclusion needs to be added to the abstract.

Effect of lamellarization on the microstructure and mechanical properties of marine 10Ni5CrMoV steel

Multistage heat treatment involving quenching(Q),lamellarizing(L),and tempering(T)is applied to marine 10Ni5CrMoV *** microstructure and mechanical properties were studied by multiscale characterizations,and the kinetics of reverse austenite transformation,strain hardening behavior,and toughening mechanism were further *** lamellarized specimens possess low yield strength but high toughness,especially cryogenic *** leads to the development of film-like reversed austenite at the martensite block and lath boundaries,refining the martensite structure and lowering the equivalent grain *** analysis of austenite reversion based on the JMAK model shows that the isothermal transformation is dominated by the growth of reversed austenite,and the maximum transformation of reversed austenite is reached at the peak temperature(750℃).The strain hardening behavior based on the modified Crussard-Jaoul analysis indicates that the reversed austenite obtained from lamellarization reduces the proportion of martensite,significantly hindering crack propagation via martensitic transformation during the *** a consequence,the QLT specimens exhibit high machinability and low yield *** with the QT specimen,the ductile-brittle transition temperature of the QLT specimens decreases from-116 to-130℃due to the low equivalent grain size and reversed austenite,which increases the cleavage force required for crack propagation and absorbs the energy of external load,*** work provides an idea to improve the cryogenic toughness of marine 10Ni5CrMoV steel and lays a theoretical foundation for its industrial application and comprehensive performance improvement.

AIM:To assess the possibility of using different large language models(LLMs)in ocular surface diseases by selecting five different LLMS to test their accuracy in answering specialized questions related to ocular surface diseases:ChatGPT-4,ChatGPT-3.5,Claude 2,PaLM2,and ***:A group of experienced ophthalmology professors were asked to develop a 100-question singlechoice question on ocular surface diseases designed to assess the performance of LLMs and human participants in answering ophthalmology specialty exam *** exam includes questions on the following topics:keratitis disease(20 questions),keratoconus,keratomalaciac,corneal dystrophy,corneal degeneration,erosive corneal ulcers,and corneal lesions associated with systemic diseases(20 questions),conjunctivitis disease(20 questions),trachoma,pterygoid and conjunctival tumor diseases(20 questions),and dry eye disease(20 questions).Then the total score of each LLMs and compared their mean score,mean correlation,variance,and confidence were ***:GPT-4 exhibited the highest performance in terms of *** the average scores of the LLMs group with the four human groups,chief physician,attending physician,regular trainee,and graduate student,it was found that except for ChatGPT-4,the total score of the rest of the LLMs is lower than that of the graduate student group,which had the lowest score in the human *** ChatGPT-4 and PaLM2 were more likely to give exact and correct answers,giving very little chance of an incorrect ***-4 showed higher credibility when answering questions,with a success rate of 59%,but gave the wrong answer to the question 28% of the ***:GPT-4 model exhibits excellent performance in both answer relevance and ***2 shows a positive correlation(up to 0.8)in terms of answer accuracy during the *** terms of answer confidence,PaLM2 is second only to GPT4 and surpasses Claude 2,SenseNova,and *** the fact t

Overview and New Opportunities for Multi-Source Data Assimilation

The world witnessed an accelerated development of various types of meteorological observing technology, an evolution of numerical weather prediction(NWP) models from single atmospheric component to coupled multi-components of the earth system, as well as the multi graphics processing unit technology in computer sciences, a new era for rapidly advancing data assimilation science and technology development has arrived. The multi-source data assimilation is important not only for NWP but also for further understanding of global and regional weather changes. This article firstly selectively reviews past methods of multi-source data assimilation. New opportunities are then discussed for future development of data assimilation system framework, for innovative uses of high-resolution observations, and for applications of artificial intelligence machine learning in meteorological data assimilation.

Heavy metal stress strengthens the stability and complexity of microbial molecular ecological networks in Sanyang wetland sediments

Pollution from heavy metals(HMs)(Cd,As,Cr,and Ni,etc.)has become a serious environmental issue in urban wetland ecosystems with more and more *** studies conducted in agricultural soils,rivers,and lakes demonstrated that microbial communities exhibit a response to HM ***,little is known about the response of microbial communities to HM pollution in urban wetland *** examined how heavy metals affect the stability of the microbial networks in the sediments of Sanyang wetland,Wenzhou,*** environmental parameters,including HMs,TC(total carbon),TN(total nitrogen),TP(total phosphorus),S,and pH,varied profoundly between moderately and heavily polluted areas in shaping microbial ***,the microbial community composition in moderately polluted sites correlated significantly(Pdemonstrated more intricate and more stable microbial networks than those of the moderately polluted *** heavily polluted sites exhibited higher values for various network parameters including total nodes,total links,average degree,average clustering coefficient,connectance,relative modularity,robustness,and ***,the structural equation modeling analysis demonstrated a positive correlation between the stability of microbial networks and Cd,TN,TP,and S in heavily polluted ***,in moderately polluted sites,the correlation was positively linked to Cd,Ni,and sediment *** implies that Cd could potentially play a crucial role in affecting the stability of microbial *** study shall enhance our comprehension of microbial co-occurrence patterns in urban wetland ecosystems and offer insights into the ways in which microbial communities respond to environmental factors in varying levels of HM pollution.
