Since its emergence in 2000, small bowel capsule endoscopy(SBCE) has assumed a pivotal role as an investigation method for small bowel diseases. The PillCam SB2-ex offers 12 h of battery time, 4 more than the previous version(SB2). Rahman et al recently found that the PillCam SB2-ex has a significantly increased completion rate, although without higher diagnostic yield, compared with the SB2. We would like to discuss these somewhat surprising results and the new potentialities of the PillCam SB3 regarding the diagnostic yield of small bowel studies. PillCam SB3 offers improved image resolution and faster adaptable frame rate over previous versions of SBCE. We recently compared the major duodenal papilla detection rate obtained with PillCam SB3 and SB2 as a surrogate indicator of diagnostic yield in the proximal small bowel. The PillCam SB3 had a significantly higher major duodenal papilla detection rate than the PillCam SB2(42.7% vs 24%, P = 0.015). Thus, the most recent version of the PillCam capsule, SB3, may increase diagnostic yield, particularly in the proximal segments of the small bowel.

The aim of this work is to integrate the Educative intervention to Scientific research in support of the biological, psychological, social and economic discomfort of the Person affected by cognitive deficit. The specific objective is to stimulate the retained cognitive, emotive and motor abilities, educating to the theatricality through the establishment of a theatrical laboratory. Our experience was conducted with a group of elderly people affected by neuro-geriatric pathologies with medium-high cognitive decay. The encounters took place in the home of one of the members of the group. Fundamental was the actualisation of the process of individual and collective empowerment. They started with social activities and viewings of film scenes with Charlie Chaplin, actor to be observed, picked by the activities＇ participants. Finally, there was a re-enacting of a ＂wordless＂ scene through the reading of simple sentences to express in sign language. The parameters taken into consideration during the qualitative analysis are： attention, learning, expressivity and motor capabilities, measured at every encounter through a Likert scale of evaluation created ad hoc, directly proportional to the level of adequacy of the single ability. In conclusion, the maximum of scored points manifested itself in the attention and expressivity items.

Omega-3 (ω-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) from fish and fish oils appear to protect against coronary heart disease: their dietary intake is in fact inversely associated with cardiovascular disease morbidity/mortality in population studies. Recent evidence suggests that at least a part of this protective effect is mediated by a relatively small but significant decrease in blood pressure (BP) level. In fact, omega-3 PUFAs exhibit wide-ranging biological actions that include regulating both vasomotor tone and renal sodium excretion, partly competing with omega-6 PUFAs for common metabolic enzymes and thereby decreasing the production of vasoconstrictor rather than vasodilator and anti-inflammatory eicosanoids. PUFAs also reduce angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) activity, angiotensin II formation. We retrospectively evaluated the long-term effect of a omega-3 PUFAs supplementation on the blood pressure level of 91 hypertriglyceridemic subjects with untreated normal-high blood pressure that were prescribed a 3 grams omega-3 PUFAs supplementation in order to improve their plasma lipid pattern. After 24 months of treatment, systolic blood pressure (SBP) meanly decreased by 2.6 +/- 2.5 mmHg (p = 0.001) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) by 1.4 +/- 3.1 mmHg (p decreased by 4.1 +/- 4.6 bpm (p gnificantly related to the baseline SBP (p ge was also inversely related to the patient’s age (p = 0.004). No significant difference was perceived in the metabolic syndrome subgroup. In our retrospective study, highly purified omega-3 PUFAs long-term supplementation is associated with a significant reduction in SBP, DBP, and basal heart rate in hypertriglyceridemic patients with normal-high blood pressure. Cinchona officinalis （Rubiaceae） is an endemic species of the Loja Valley in southern Ecuador with medicinal uses. Because of over-exploitation in the nine- teenth century and more recent disturbances to its ecosystem, C. officinalis populations are threatened. Currently, natural regeneration of the populations is low, despite its high plant regeneration and seed formation capacity. In the present study, an efficient protocol for germination, shoot proliferation and plantlets regeneration was developed for this species. Phenolic content and germination rate of C. officinalis seeds were compared with a control species, C. pubescens. Nodal segments from seedlings of C. officinalis were cultured on gamborg medium supplemented with different combinations of plant growth regulators. Because the phenol content is high in C. officinalis, the phenolic should be removed with hydrogen peroxide or water washes to stimulate germination. Shoots and callus developed from nodal segments within 45 days using most of the tested combinations of plant growth regulators. The best rates of shoot proliferation, callus formation and adventitious buds were obtained in medium supplemented with 5.0 mg L^-1 6-benzyl-aminopurine and 3.0 mg L^-1 indole- 3-butyfic acid.

The increasing impact of disasters at local,national,regional and global scales in recent decades has provided enough evidence to urgently direct attention towards the necessity of disaster risk reduction and management,and this requires *** without communication is barren,and to communicate the risk of disaster it is necessary to understand the perception of the people at *** particular,this paper deals with the necessity to delineate strategies of risk communication in pursuance of risk knowledge as a core of disaster risk reduction and management,especially in mountain areas of developing *** portray this issue,an analysis of landslide risk perception in terms of experience,landslide risk awareness,exposure,preparedness,and risk communication and trust was undertaken in the municipality of Teziutlán,Puebla,Mexico,an area that has been affected for several decades by episodes of mass *** of the responses to a risk perception questionnaire has offered valuable insights in terms of the information and knowledge most required by the people living in the area of interest,in order to devise a realistic and functional strategy to communicate the risk of a landslide *** includes better understanding of controlling factorsand drivers of this risk,and the establishment of potential trusted sources of risk *** considering practical matters of risk assessment and management,risk perception and communication can increase the resilience of vulnerable people,and can enhance capacity building for present and future generations.

Though they reduce microorganism growth, current hospital disinfectants also damage many of today’s modern electronic devices such as tablets and smartphones. Herein, the efficacy of a new chlorhexidine digluconate gel (CDg) was tested as a disinfectant for mobile and electronic devices in a clinical environment. Specifically, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus were used to infect the screen of eight smartphones. The CDg was prepared at concentrations of 2%, 4% and 6%, and tested on paper disks infected with these bacteria before being tested on the smartphones. The devices were disinfected with the CDg gel (4%) at two times: immediately and after 5 min of the bacterial contamination. In all cases, the CDg gel eliminated 100% of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms compared to the control (without any agent). In addition, the gel did not damage the smartphones. Therefore, our study suggests that the CDg gel may be applied to disinfect a wide range of electronic devices for health care professionals in the hospital environment.

Two different diets characterized by the absence of cereals or by the presence of conventional cereals were evaluated on the nutrient digestibility and faecal characteristics and faecal fermentative endproduct concentrations of 8 neutered adult Labrador retrievers housed at the Regional Centre Helen Keller(Messina,Italy)during the training work for the service guide for the ***(age = 17 ± 1 months,initial body weight [BW]= 26.3 ± 1 *** body condition score [BCS]= 4.5 ± 0.11)were divided into 2 homogeneous groups for sex(half males and half females).Dogs in the grain free(gF)group were fed a commercial diet characterized by the absence of grain cereals,and dogs in the control(CTR)group were fed a super-premium pet food characterized by conventional grains as the carbohydrate *** trial lasted 84 *** by a 7-d of adaption *** examination,*** faecal characteristics were *** statistical model included the effects of diet(gF ***),time(from d 0 to *** of the trial)and the interaction(diet x time).The high-protein,lowcarbohydrate dry diet(gF)offered higher apparent nutrient digestibility of protein(+10%;P =0.002)and fat(+7%;Pge intestinal fermentation of carbohydrate compared to the commercial high-carbohydrate dry diet,enabling dogs to use nutrients from the diet more efficiently and thus requiring less food(-13%)to satisfy their nutrient requirements,producing less excrement(-33%;P= 0.033).and reaching a higher final BW(+8%;Pgher final BCS(+15%;P= 0.003).Therefore,the gF diet appears the nutritional plan most suitable for these animals taking due account not only of the training work done by animals with their increased nutrient and energy needs,but also of the gastrointestinal disorders consequent to stress coming from work and life in kennels,which cause in the Labrador retrievers an unusual weight loss.
