A linear regression model in conjunction with cluster analysis was ap.lied to the groundwater quality p.rameters for the Vaniyambadi industrial area, Tamil Nadu, India. These p.ysico-chemical p.rameters were collected from 25 wells by intensive groundwater samp.ing conducted during January 2010. All the major ions, p. and electrical conductivity were analyzed. The abundances of cations were in the order of Na p.ctively. This was in agreement with the water typ.s, Na-Cl and Na-Ca-HCO3, determined by the p.p.r p.ot. High concentrations of the ions Na, Cl and SO4 were recorded near the tanneries that op.rate within the study area. While the elevated concentrations of HCO3 and F were observed away from the tanneries. This p.culiar hydrochemical behaviour suggests that the chemistry of water is p.edominantly influenced by tannery effluents and weathering of silicate minerals. Results of the linear regression model yielded 11 regression equations for the 5 most correlated p.rameters. A dendrogram from the cluster analysis showed 2 major clusters rep.esenting the influence of tanneries and geological formations in the study area, which confirmed the results of major ion chemistry.

Understanding how small molecules interface with amyloid fibrils at the nanoscale is of imp.rtance for develop.ng therap.utic treatments against amyloid-based diseases. Here, we show for the first time that human islet amyloid p.lyp.p.ides （LAp.） in the fibrillar form are p.lymorp.ic, ambidextrous, and p.ssess multip.e p.riodicities. Up.n interfacing with the small molecule ep.gallocatechin gallate （EGCG）, IAp. aggregation was rendered off-p.thway and assumed a form with soft and disordered clusters, while mature IAp. fibrils disp.ayed kinks and branching but conserved the twisted fibril morp.ology. These nanoscale p.enomena resulted from comp.titive interactions between EGCG and the IAp. amyloidogenic region, as well as end cap.ing of the fibrils by the small molecule. This information is crucial in delineating IAp. toxicity imp.icated in typ. 2 diabetes and for develop.ng new inhibitors against amyloidogenesis.

Op.n Ground Storey（OGS） framed buildings where the ground storey is kep. op.n without infill walls, mainly to facilitate p.rking, is increasing commonly in urban areas. However, vulnerability of this typ. of buildings has been exp.sed in p.st earthquakes. OGS buildings are conventionally designed by a bare frame analysis that ignores the stiffness of the infill walls p.esent in the up.er storeys, but doing so underestimates the inter-storey drift（ISD） and thereby the force demand in the ground storey columns. Therefore, a multip.ication factor（MF） is introduced in various international codes to estimate the design forces（bending moments and shear forces） in the ground storey columns. This study focuses on the seismic p.rformance of typ.cal OGS buildings designed by means of MFs. The p.obabilistic seismic demand models, fragility curves, reliability and cost indices for various frame models including bare frames and fully infilled frames are develop.d. It is found that the MF scheme suggested by the Israel code is better than other international codes in terms of reliability and cost.

Introduction Intracerebral haemorrhage(ICH)within deep.structures adjacent to the third ventricle is associated with worse outcomes when comp.red with lobar ICH due to the critical role of deep.nuclei in normal neurological *** evidence suggests another contributing factor to p.or outcome is obstruction of cerebrosp.nal fluid outflow by clot burden causing mechanical comp.ession of the third *** authors reviewed the incidence and outcomes of mechanical comp.ession ICH in order to identify this high-risk group.which may p.tentially benefit from minimally invasive *** p.tients with sp.ntaneous,non-traumatic,sup.atentorial ICH were identified retrosp.ctively over a 30-month *** imaging was reviewed to assess location of the ICH,volume of the ICH,p.esence of hydrocep.alus requiring external ventricular drain(EVD)p.acement,and time to clearing of the third *** was then categorised as due to‘p.imarily intraventricular haemorrhage(IVH)’,‘p.imarily mechanical comp.ession’or‘mixed’.Functional outcomes at discharge were assessed using the modified Rankin Score(mRS).Results 287 p.tients met inclusion criteria,of which 39(13.5%)p.tients develop.d hydrocep.alus that required *** p.tients had significantly higher mRS at discharge(p.0.001)when comp.red with the non-EVD *** location was associated with lower odds of p.or outcome comp.red with thalamic location(OR 0.107-0.560).Mechanical comp.ession hydrocep.alus was associated with p.or outcome when comp.red with the p.imary IVH hydrocep.alus subgroup.p.0.037)as well as longer time to clearing of the third ventricle(p.0.006).Conclusions Mechanical obstruction requiring EVD occurs in ap.roximately(21/287)7.3%of all p.tients with sp.ntaneous sup.atentorial *** is unknown if the worse morbidity in these subjects is p.rely related to damage to deep.structures surrounding the third ventricle or if secondary damage from hydrocep.alus could be mitigated with tar

Small bowel obstructions （SBOs） are p.imarily caused by adhesions, hernias, neop.asms, or inflammatory strictures. Intraluminal strictures are an uncommon cause of SBO. This rep.rt describes our findings in a unique case of sequential, stenotic intraluminal strictures of the small intestine, discusses the differential diagnosis of intraluminal intestinal strictures, and reviews the literature regarding intraluminal p.thology.

A 36CI p.ak was found in the p.edicted section of Guliya ice core, from the Qinghai-Tibetan p.ateau, at about 37 kaBp. This cannot be interp.eted by means of changes in the accumulation rate, but by the enhanced cosmogenic isotop. p.oduction rate in the atmosp.ere. Comp.red with the records of 10Be and 36CI in the other regions, the p.aks of the cosmogenic isotop.s are global and can be considered as time marks. An intriguing fact is that the p.aks coincided with cold p.riods.

Glass fi ber reinforced gyp.um(GFRG) wall p.nels are p.efabricated p.nels with hollow cores, originally develop.d in Australia and subsequently adop.ed by India and China for use in buildings. This p.p.r discusses identifi cation and calibration of a suitable hysteretic model for GFRG wall p.nels fi lled with reinforced concrete. As considerable p.nching was observed in the exp.rimental results, a suitable hysteretic model with p.nched hysteretic rule is used to conduct a series of quasi-static as inelastic hysteretic resp.nse analyses of GFRG p.nels with two different widths. The calibration of the p.nching model p.rameters was carried out to ap.roximately match the simulated and exp.rimental resp.nses up.to 80% of the p.ak load in the p.st p.ak region. Interestingly, the same values of various p.rameters(energy dissip.tion and p.nching related p.rameters) were obtained for all fi ve test sp.cimens.

Metabolite transp.rt p.ocesses and p.imary metabolism are highly interconnected. This study exam- ined the imp.rtance of source-to-sink nitrogen p.rtition- ing, and associated nitrogen metabolism for carbon cap.ure, transp.rt and usage. Sp.cifically, Arabidop.is aap. （AMINO ACID p.RMEASE 8） mutant lines were analyzed to resolve the consequences of reduced amino acid p.loem loading for source leaf carbon metabolism, sucrose p.loem transp.rt and sink develop.ent during vegetative and rep.oductive growth p.ase. Results showed that decreased amino acid transp.rt had a negative effect on sink develop.ent of aap. lines throughout the life cycle, leading to an overall decrease in p.ant biomass. During vegetative stage, p.otosynthe- sis and carbohydrate levels were decreased in aap. leaves, while exp.ession of carbon metabolism and transp.rt genes, as well as sucrose p.loem transp.rt were not affected desp.te reduced sink strength. However, when aap. p.ants transitioned to rep.oductive p.ase, carbon fixation and assimilation as well as sucrose p.rtitioning to siliques were strongly decreased. Overall, this work demonstrates that p.loem loading of nitrogen has varying imp.ications for carbon fixation, assimilation and source-to-sink allocation dep.nding on p.ant growth stage. It further suggests alterations in source-sink relationship., and regulation of carbon metabolism and transp.rt by sink strength in a develop.ent-dep.ndent manner.

DNA and silica-coated magnetic p.rticles entangle and form visible aggregates under chaotrop.c conditions with a rotating magnetic field, in a manner that enables quantification of DNA by image analysis. As a means of exp.oring the mechanism of this DNA quantitation assay, nanoscale SiO2-coated Fe304 （Fe3O4@SiO2） p.rticles are synthesized via a solvothermal method. Characterization of the p.rticles defines them to be -200 nm in diameter with a large surface area （141.89 m2/g）, p.ssessing sup.rp.ramagnetic p.op.rties and exhibiting high saturation magnetization （38 emu/g）. The synthesized Fe3O4@SiO2 nanop.rticles are exp.oited in the DNA quantification assay and, as p.edicted, the nanop.rticles p.ovide better sensitivity than commercial microscale Dynabeads for quantifying DNA, with a detection limit of 4 kilobase-p.ir fragments of human DNA. Their utility is p.oven using nanop.rticle DNA quantification to guide efficient p.lymerase chain reaction （p.R） amp.ification of short tandem rep.at loci for human identification.
