The simulation of rarefied gasflows through complex porous media is chal-lenging due to the tortuousflow pathways inherent to such *** Lattice Boltzmann method(LBM)has been identified as a promising avenue to solveflows through complex geometries due to the simplicity of its scheme and its high parallel computational *** has been proposed to model the stress-strain relationship with the extended Navier-Stokes equations rather than attempting to directly solve the Boltzmann ***,a regularization technique is required tofilter out non-resolved higher-order components with a low-order velocity *** slip boundary conditions(BCs)have been proposed for the non-regularized multiple relaxation time LBM(MRT-LBM)for planar geometries,previous slip BCs have never been verified extensively with the regularization *** this work,following an extensive literature review on the imposition of slip BCs for rarefiedflows with the LBM,it is proven that earlier values for kinetic parameters developed to impose slip BCs are inaccurate for the regularized MRT-LBM and differ between the D2Q9 and D3Q15 *** error was eliminated for planarflows and good agreement be-tween analytical solutions for arrays of cylinders and spheres was found with a wide range of Knudsen numbers.

Prediction of the response of cancer patients to different treatments and identification of biomarkers of drug response are two major goals of individualized ***,we developed a deep learning framework called TINDL,completely trained on preclinical cancer cell lines(CCLs),to predict the response of cancer patients to different *** utilizes a tissue-informed normalization to account for the tissue type and cancer type of the tumors and to reduce the statistical discrepancies between CCLs and patient ***,by making the deep learning black box interpretable,this model identifies a small set of genes whose expression levels are predictive of drug response in the trained model,enabling identification of biomarkers of drug *** data from two large databases of CCLs and cancer tumors,we showed that this model can distinguish between sensitive and resistant tumors for 10(out of 14)drugs,outperforming various other machine learning *** addition,our small interfering RNA(siRNA)knockdown experiments on 10 genes identified by this model for one of the drugs(tamoxifen)confirmed that tamoxifen sensitivity is substantially influenced by all of these genes in MCF7 cells,and seven of these genes in T47D ***,genes implicated for multiple drugs pointed to shared mechanism of action among drugs and suggested several important signaling *** summary,this study provides a powerful deep learning framework for prediction of drug response and identification of biomarkers of drug response in *** code can be accessed at https://***/ddhostallero/tindl.

Racial and ethnic minorities in economically deprived inner cities experience high rates of chronic diseases compared to neighborhoods with higher socioeconomic status(SES).however,these economically deprived populations are understudied in terms of biomarkers associated with chronic disease risk which include C-reactive protein(CRP),telomerase reverse transcriptase(TERT),and glycosylated hemoglobin(A1C).We examined relationships between CRP and TERT and chronic disease indicators(body mass index[BMI]and A1C)in two lowincome,predominantly African American(AA)neighborhoods in Detroit,***-nine adults(43 females,26 males,mean age 46 years[y],standard deviation[SD]=15.9)completed a health survey,anthropometry,and finger stick blood tests.A1C was measured using A1CNow test strips,and CRP and TERT levels were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)with samples extracted from dried blood *** examined CRP(mean=4.9,SD=3.1),TERT(mean=32.5,SD=15.1),and A1C(mean=5.4,SD=1.0)by BMI *** fitted restricted maximum likelihood regression models to evaluate associations between CRP,TERT,BMI,and A1C,after adjustment for demographics and inclusion of a random effect for the *** this predominantly AA sample(91%,63/69),68%had levels of CRP(means=4.8 mg/L,SD=3.0 for AAs;6.4 mg/L,SD=3.9 for all others)indicative of chronic inflammation(CRP greater than 3 mg/L).BMI was significantly associated with CRP(p=0.004)and TERT(p=0.026).TERT levels indicate that being overweight is associated with markers of chromosome remodeling,suggestive of chronic *** followed a similar trend with overweight individuals having higher inflammation and risk of chronic *** findings warrant further exploration of additional factors that may influence CRP and ***,examining populations in a more ethnically and/or economically diverse,yet still high proportion minority,sample will fill a knowledge gap in this understudied field.

Radiographical modalities have become important diagnostic tools in cases of ulcerative colitis(UC).Imaging can be used non-invasively to determine the extent of involvement,severity of disease and to detect disease-related complications and extra-intestinal inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)*** abdominal X-rays and barium enemas still retain their relevance in specific clinical settings,the use of computed tomography enterography(CTE)or magnetic resonance enterography(MRE)are now used as first-line investigations to exclude active small bowel disease in IBD patients and can be utilized to detect active colonic ***,CT colonography and MR colonography are emerging techniques with potential applications in ***,leukocyte scintigraphy and positron emission tomography are novel abdominal imaging modalities currently being explored for IBD *** plethora of radiological imaging options has become a vital component of UC assessments.

BACKGROUND The implications of neutropenia after cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy(hIPEC)treatment have never been *** To evaluate the occurrence of neutropenia and its effect on the risk of increased Clavien-Dindo morbidity as well as its effect on overall or disease-free *** All patients with colorectal peritoneal metastases(1996-2015)completing cytoreductive surgery and oxaliplatin-based hIPEC treatment from a biinstitutional database(Uppsala and Sydney)were included in the ***-Dindo grade 3-4 morbidity differences between the neutropenia group vs nonneutropenia group were calculated and Kaplan-Meier curves with log rank test were *** and multivariable Cox regression models for diseasefree survival were *** Two hundred and forty-six patients were identified–32 postoperative any-grade neutropenia patients and 214 non-neutropenia *** neutropenia group had more combination oxaliplatin+irinotecan treatment than the nonneutropenia group(66%vs 13%,P=0.0001).The neutropenia group was not associated with increased Clavien-Dindo grade 3-4 *** overall survival was 53 mo vs 37 mo for the neutropenia and non-neutropenia group,P=*** disease-free survival was 16 mo vs 11 mo,respectively,P=*** was an independent prognostic factor for disease-free survival with hazard ratio:0.58,95%confidence interval:0.36-0.95,P=*** 13%of patients developed neutropenia which was not associated with increased Clavien-Dindo grade 3-4 *** was an independent positive prognostic factor for disease-free survival and was associated with more intense hIPEC *** is in direct contrast to the current paradigm of decreasing the treatment intensity.

Ultrasonic treatment(UST)applied during the solidification of pure Mg,eutectic(Mg-Zn)and peritectic(Mg-Zr)alloys was investigated in order to explore the grain refinement *** dependent grain refinement is observed in pure Mg where decreasing the superheat temperature(at which UST is applied from above the melting temperature,TM)from 100℃to 40℃produces significant refinement with a uniform grain *** presence of solute reduces the temperature dependence of the UST refinement and excellent grain refinement is obtained regardless of the superheat temperature(100℃or 40℃)and even with the use of preheated sonotrode in the Mg-6 wt.%Zn alloy.A further improvement in grain refinement is achieved when the alloy contains potent particles that introduce additional nucleation of grains in Mg-0.5 and 1.0 wt.%Zr alloys(producing an average grain size of≤100μm).At 40℃superheat,UST of Mg-Zn alloys produces excellent refinement(average grain sizeh non-dendritic grains,which is normally achieved only with the addition of grain refining master alloy in the as-cast *** enhanced refinement observed in the eutectic alloy is explained through the undercooling imposed by a relatively cold sonotrode combined with high frequency vibrations and acoustic *** advantages of using a cold sonotrode,a low superheat and solute are demonstrated for achieving significant refinement during solidification of Mg alloys under UST without or with a lower addition of grain refining master alloys.
