Effects of crop residues for animal consumption and soil enhancement on the electricity generation potential of residues:A case study of Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district,Ghana

Many studies have estimated the potential of crop residues for energy generation globally and recognized its great potential,especially in rural areas where on-grid electricity is ***,crop residues have other equally important uses as animal feed and as mulch for soil enhancement,especially in rural farming ***,most of the known studies have neglected the estimation of the quantity of crop residues that will be required for feeding animals and also for the enhancement of soil through mulching in their energy potential estimation from crop *** these two important uses can lead to the over-exploitation of the residues for energy generation at the expense of conservation agriculture practices as well as depriving animals of quality feed which can lead to low crop yield and animal production,with the ability to cause hunger and *** study has assessed the potential of electricity generation from agricultural residues in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district of Ghana using gasification technology,taking cognizance of the proportion of residues needed for animal consumption and soil *** results of the study indicate that out of the 207646.22 t of residues that can be generated from maize,yam,cassava,millet,sorghum,and groundnut,26830.36 t(representing 13%)will be required by sheep,goats,and cows for consumption,and 13936.17 t(representing 7%)will be required for mulching soils where the crops are ***,it was found that a total of 592.17 MW∙h of electricity can be generated from crop residues without animal consumption and soil enhancement needs,while 461.89 MW∙h could be generated from the residues,considering animal feed and soil *** study has indicated that it is not enough to consider soil enhancement and animal feeding in agricultural biomass power generation through recovery factors without the exact quantification of residues required for these purposes since this can lead to a vi

Decellularized natural bladder matrices(neobladders)represent an exciting means to regenerate the bladder following bladder cancer-associated *** this study,we compare the evolution of decellularized matrices with recellularized matrices by seeding it with human adiposederived mesenchymal stem cells(ADSC)after implantation following partial cystectomy in *** discovered significant anatomical differences since 10 days after neobladder implantation with the ADSC-containing matrices promoting a significant recovery of mature p63-and cytokeratin 7-positive *** also discovered significantly induced expression of the vimentin mesoderm marker in the submucosal layer in ADSC-seeded ***,we found a higher expression of smooth muscle actin in transversal and longitudinal smooth muscle layers with ADSC-seeded ***,ADSC also showed increased vascularization and nerve innervation of the neobladder as determined by the distribution of CD31 and S100b reactivity,*** believe that ADSC and their paracrine-acting pro-regenerative secretome within decellularized matrices represent an efficient bladder substitution strategy;however,we require a fuller understanding of the mechanisms involved before clinical studies can begin.

Injuries caused by blunt force are seen frequently in daily forensic ***,especially when there is less information about the surrounding circumstances,it might become difficult to figure out the cause and background of injuries:accident,criminal violence or self-infliction?In the study presented,face injuries caused by blunt force in 694 cases were analyzed comparing the injury patterns in accidents to those in *** turned out injuries of the ear and retroauricular region clearly indicate a ***,soft tissue injuries of nose,upper jaw,and lower jaw point towards a criminal violence,whereas tooth injuries occur with a similar frequency in both crimes and accidents.

Background:Postural control has been associated with the functional impairment in persons with multiple sclerosis(pwMS).However,there is a need for reliable methods to assess postural control in early stages of the disease,when subtle changes can be difficult to *** aims of this study were to assess the absolute and relative reliability of a standing and a sitting posturographic protocol in minimally(Expanded Disability Status Scale≤2)and moderately(2.5≤Expanded Disability Status Scale≤4)impaired pwMS,and to analyze relationships among postural control and functional mobility and gait ***:To assess postural control in an upright stance,14 minimally and 16 moderately impaired pwMS performed six 70 s trials in tandem stance,3 with their weaker leg behind(TSWL)and 3 with their stronger leg behind(TSSL).Additionally,participants completed five 70 s trials using an unstable sitting protocol(US)to assess trunk *** mean radial errors of TSWL,TSSL,and US trials were calculated as postural control ***,participants performed the Timed Up and Go test(TUG)and the Timed 25-foot Walk test(T25FW)to measure their functional mobility and gait speed,*** was evaluated using the intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC3,1)and the standard error of measurement(SEM).Analyses of variances were carried out to assess between-group ***’g index(dg)was used to estimate the effect size of *** correlation analyses(r)were performed to examine the relationships among the postural control and the functional ***:Posturographic tests showed a high reliability in both minimally(0.87≤ICC≤0.92;9.32%≤SEM≤11.76%)and moderately(0.80≤ICC≤0.92;10.33%≤SEM≤15.33%)impaired ***,T25FW and TUG displayed a high consistency in minimally(0.89≤ICC≤0.94;3.43%≤SEM≤5.17%)and moderately(0.85≤ICC≤0.93;5.57%≤SEM≤6.56%)impaired *** impaired pwMS showed a better performance on the TUG,T25FW

Purpose:The purpose of this study was to examine the reliability and the learning effect of an isokinetic trunk flexion-extension protocol designed to simultaneously assess trunk muscle strength and *** addition,the effect of the participants’sex on the reliability data was ***:Fifty-seven healthy and physically active young men(n=28)and women(n=29)performed the isokinetic protocol 5 times,separated by a week between each of the first 4 sessions and by a month between the last 2 *** protocol consisted of performing 4 trials of 15 maximum flexion-extension concentric exertions at 120°/s(range of trunk motion=50°).The absolute and relative peak torque and total work were calculated to assess trunk flexion and extension *** addition,endurance ratio,modified endurance ratio,fatigue final ratio,recovery ratio,and modified recovery ratio variables were used for the assessment of trunk muscle endurance in both ***:Regarding the absolute reliability,no relevant changes were found between paired-comparison sessions for most strength and endurance variables,except for total work and relative total work variables in the flexion movement in both *** addition,the typical error of the isokinetic variables was lower than 10%in both males and females,and minimum detectable changes ranged from 7%to 20%,with a tendency to be higher in females and in endurance *** strength variables showed high-to-excellent intraclass correlation coefficients(ICCs;>0.74);however,for the endurance variables only the endurance ratio and the modified endurance ratio obtained moderate-to-high ICC values(0.57verall,these findings provide clinicians,trainers,and researchers with a 10-min single-session protocol to perform a reliable muscle strength and endurance evaluatio

Active layer is a key component for permafrost environment studies as many subsurface biological,biogeochemical,ecological,and pedogenic activities prevail in this *** study focuses on active layer temperature monitoring in an area with sporadic permafrost at two adjacent sites along China-Russia Crude Oil Pipeline(CRCOP),NorthEast *** T1 is located in disturbed ground on the right-of-way(on-ROW)2 m away from the center of the oil pipeline.T2 is located in a natural and undisturbed site,around 16.6 m *** objective was to study seasonal variability of the active layer depth and thermal regime from October 2017 to September *** monitoring sites consist of soil temperature probes arranged in a vertical array at different depths at both *** following parameters were computed:number of isothermal days(ID),freezing days(FD),thawing days(TD),freezing degree days(FDD),thawing degree days(TDD),number of freeze-thaw days(FTD).The mean air temperature in the monitoring period reached-3.2℃.The temperature profile indicates that the maximum active layer thickness observed during the study period was 10 m at T1 and 2 m at *** majority of the soil temperatures were above or close to 0℃,resulting in great values of TDD,especially in the first 4 m *** for T1 were predominant and ranged between 600-1160℃·days(0-4 m depth)reflecting the influence of oil temperature from the *** T2 borehole FDD were predominant for all the soil layer depths resulting in less permafrost *** comparison emphasizes the significant influence of vegetation removal and the dispersed heat from the pipeline on the active layer thickness.
