Both arterial and venous thromboembolic events are common in patients hospitalized in intensive care units with severe COVID-19. These patients often have laboratory findings consistent with a hypercoagulable state, suggesting widespread thrombosis and fibrinolysis, as well as elevated levels of D-dimer, von Willebrand factor (VWF), and factor VIII. There is increasing evidence that these thromboembolic events are associated with worse outcomes. We present the case of a 61-year-old man admitted for bilateral pneumonia due to COVID-19 infection, who developed during his hospitalization;Bilateral pulmonary thromboembolism, an acute myocardial infarction due to multiple coronary thrombosis, an intracavitary thrombus and thrombus in the ascending aorta. The patient was treated with systemic fibrinolysis and full doses of anticoagulation for pulmonary embolism, an emergency primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pCI) was performed with the implant of a drug eluting stent (DES) in the left anterior descending artery (LAD). Triple therapy with aspirin, clopidogrel and heparin was maintained until discharge. After the patient discharge, aspirin was stopped and treatment with clopidogrel and dabigatran was maintained for three months. In a subsequent outpatient control, the thrombi of the left ventricle and the ascending aorta resolved.

This work aims to provide a methodology framework which allows to improve the performance and efficiency of an air quality monitoring network(AQMN).It requires to be constituted by a minimum and reliable number of measurement ***,the AQMN efficiency should be assessed over time,as a consequence of the possible emergence of new emission sources of air pollutants,which could lead to variations on their spatial distribution within the target ***_(10)particles data monitored by the Community of Madrid's(Spain)AQMN between 2008 and 2017 were used to develop a methodology to optimize the AQMN *** annual spatial distribution of average pM_(10)levels over the studied period monitored by all current stations vs those more representative was provided by a geographic information system(GIS),and the percentage of similarity between both postulates was quantified using simple linear regression(>95%).As one innovative tool of this study,the practical application of the proposed methodology was validated using pM_(10)particles data measured by AQMN during 2007 and 2018,reaching a similitude degree higher than 95%.The influence of temporal variation on the proposed methodological framework was around 20%.The proposed methodology sets criteria for identifying non-redundant stations within AQMN,it is also able to appropriately assess the representativeness of fixed monitoring sites within an AQMN and it complements the guidelines set by European legislation on air pollutants monitoring at fixed stations,which could help to tackle efforts to improve the air quality management.

Major depression during pregnancy is a common psychiatric disorder that arises from a complex and mul- tifactorial etiology. psychosocial stress, sex, hormones, and genetic vulnerability increase the risk for triggering mood disorders. Microglia and toll-like receptor 4 play a crucial role in triggering wide and varied stress-induced responses mediated through activation of the inflammasome; this leads to the secretion of inflammatory cytokines, increased serotonin metabolism, and reduction of neurotransmitter availability along with hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis hyperactivity. Dysregulation of this intricate neu- roimmune communication network during pregnancy modifies the maternal milieu, enhancing the emergence of depressive symptoms and negative obstetric and neu- ropsychiatric outcomes. Although several studies have clearly demonstrated the role of the innate immune system in major depression, it is still unclear how the placenta, the brain, and the monoaminergic and neuroendocrine systems interact during perinatal depression. Thus, in the present review we describe the cellular and molecular interactions between these systems in major depression during preg- nancy, proposing that the same stress-related mechanisms involved in the activation of the NLRp3 inflammasome in microglia and peripheral myeloid cells in depressed patients operate in a similar fashion in the neuroimmune placenta during perinatal depression. Thus, activation of Toll-like receptor 2 and 4 signaling and the NLRp3 inflammasome in placental immune cells may promote a shift of the Thl/Th2 bias towards a predominant Thl/Thl7 inflammatory response, associated with increased secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines, among other secreted autocrine and paracrine mediators, which play a crucial role in triggering and/or exacerbating depressive symptoms during pregnancy.

Mesenchymal stromal cells are an excellent source of stem cells because they are isolated from adult tissues or perinatal derivatives, avoiding the ethical concerns that encumber embryonic stem cells. In preclinical models, it has been shown that mesenchymal stromal cells have neuroprotective and immunomodulatory properties, both of which are ideal for central nervous system treatment and repair. Here we will review the current literature on mesenchymal stromal cells, focusing on bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells, adipose-derived mesenchymal stromal cells and mesenchymal stromal cells from the umbilical cord stroma, i.e.,Wharton’s jelly mesenchymal stromal cells. Finally, we will discuss the use of these cells to alleviate retinal ganglion cell degeneration following axonal trauma.

porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (pRRS) is an economically devastating disease with worldwide distribution caused by Betaarterivirus suid (pRRSV). The virion has great genetic and antigenic variability with a marked increase in virulence. Vaccines tested to date have been of little use in controlling the problems caused by pRRSV, so the present study was conceived to evaluate the antiviral effect of polymeric nanoparticles (pNps) made with glycyrrhizic acid (GA). Recent work has proven that this nanoparticle system is stable. These nanoparticles have good GA carrying capacity, a size pherical morphology, and a wide safety range. The integrity of cell morphology can be maintained for up to 72 h. The antiviral effect of this nanoparticle system was tested in cultures of MARC-145 cells in pre- and coinfection assays with pRRSV to evaluate changes in cell morphology and effects on cell viability. The use of pNpsGA with the real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qpCR) decreased viral infection by 38% in 3 amplification cycles. These results suggest that this system has an antiviral effect against pRRSV under the study conditions established.

In systems in atomic and nano scales such as clusters or agglomerates constituted of particles from a few to less than one hundred of atoms, quantum confinement effects are very important. Their optical and electronic properties are often dependent on the size of the systems and the way in which the atoms in these clusters are bonded. Generally, these nano-structures display optical and electronic properties significantly different of those found in corresponding bulk materials. Silicon agglomerates found in Silicon Rich Oxide (SRO) films have optical properties, which have reported as depended directly on nano-crystal size. Furthermore, the room temperature photoluminescence (pL) of Silicon Rich Oxides (SRO) has repeatedly generated a huge interest due to their possible applications in optoelectronic devices. However, a plausible emission mechanism has not yet widespread acceptance of the scientific community. In this research, we employed the Density Functional Theory with a functional B3LYp and a basis set 6 - 31G* to calculate the optical and electronic properties of small (six to ten silicon atoms) and medium size clusters of silicon (constituted of eleven to fourteen silicon atoms). With the theoretical calculation of the structural and optical properties of silicon clusters, it is possible to evaluate the contribution of silicon agglomerates in the luminescent emission mechanism experimentally found in thin SRO films.

precocity in tilapia implies the use of several methods of obtaining monosex seed;the most common tends to use masculinizing hormone 17α-methyltestosterone(17αMT),with variable *** the objective of this study was to compare the efficiency of the sexual reversion process using 17αMT,in a recirculation system and in *** a totally randomized design,three tanks for recirculation(T-RAS)and three tanks for biofloc(T-BIO)with a capacity of 200 L effective volume were taken and filled with 1,056 larvae of Oreochromis sp.,without reversing and with an initial weight of 0.02 g and an initial total length of 1.4 *** study was carried out during 65 d,the fish were fed(10%biomass,adjusted every 15 d)by a commercial diet at 45%of crude protein that included 17αMT(60 mg/kg).Water quality,microbiology,zootechnical and gonadal analysis were *** the water quality results showed that just dissolved oxygen(DO),temperature(T-°C)and alkalinity did not show significant ***,in the productive parameters there were significant differences in the final length,the gain in length and in K which were better in *** microbiological ones did not present significant differences between the ***,the percentage of reversion was significantly better in ***,this study suggests that settleable solids concentrations above 35 cm decrease the efficiency of the sexual reversion for this species.
