Adsorption of proteins to nanoparticles(NPs),a complex process that results in a protein corona,is controlled by NP surface properties that define NP interactions in *** to control adsorbed protein quantity through surface modification have led to improvements in circulation time or ***,current approaches have yet to be identified to control adsorbed protein identities within the ***,we report the development and characterization of diverse zwitterionic peptides(ZIPs)for NP anti-fouling surface functionalization with specific and controllable affinity for protein adsorption profiles defined by ZIP *** serum exposure of ZIP-conjugated NPs and proteomics analysis of the resulting corona,we determined that protein adsorption profiles depend not on the exact composition of the ZIPs but on the sequence and order of charges along the sequence(charge motif).These findings pave the way for developing tunable ZIPs to orchestrate specific ZIP-NP protein adsorption profiles as a function of ZIP charge motif to better control cell and tissue specificity and pharmacokinetics and provide new tools for investigating relationships between protein corona and biological ***,overall ZIP diversity enabled by the diversity of amino acids may ameliorate adaptive immune responses.

Use of legume trees can improve soil quality in degraded pastures. The aim of this study was to charac- terize C and N mineralization kinetics and estimate the potentially mineralizable C and N in soil under Mimosa caesalpiniifolia Benth. and Acacia auriculiformis A. Cunn. ex Benth. secondary forest and pasture in red-yellow latosols in southeast Brazil. We conducted a laboratory aerobic incubation experiment using a completely ran- domized design of four replicates and four types of plant cover using a modified version of the Stanford and Smith technique （1972） to study C and N mineralization potential. Potentially mineralizable N （No） ranged from 135 to 170 mg kg-1. The predominant form of mineral N for all types of plant cover was N-NO3-. M. caesalpiniifolia was the only species that had a positive influence on N min- eralization. Neither of the legumes influenced C mineral- ization in pasture or secondary forest. The model of N mineralization corresponded to a sigmoidal curve while C mineralization corresponded to an exponential curve, revealing that the N and C mineralization processes were distinct. N mineralized by M. caesalpiniifolia （216 kg ofN ha-1） was adequate to meet the N requirement for a livestock-forest system.

Hepatocyte hopping is the hepatocyte-to-sinusoid-to-hepatocyte shuttling that increases the efficiency of hepatic elimination of xenobiotics. This phenomenon is mediated via efflux of hepatic metabolites by Mrp3 and reuptake by Oatp transporters in sequential hepatocytes until eventual biliary efflux by Mrp2. Sorafenib-glucuronide (SfB-G), the major metabolite of sorafenib (SfB), undergoes hepatocyte hopping, leading to efficient biliary elimination. Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) alters the functioning of transporters involved in hepatocyte hopping. The purpose of this study was to quantify the effect of NASH on the three drug disposition processes of hepatocyte hopping. Male fVB and C57BL/6 wild-type (WT), Oatp1a/1b cluster knockout (O^(−/−)), and Mrp2 knockout (Mrp2^(−/−)) mice were fed a methionine and choline deficient (MCD) diet to induce NASH. Mice were administered 10 mg/kg SfB via oral gavage and concentrations of SfB and SfB-G in plasma quantified using liquid-chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. Compared to WT, plasma area under the concentration-time curve (AUC) of SfB-G increased by 108-fold in the O^(-/--)C group and by 345-fold in the Mrp2^(-/--)C group. In the WT-NASH group, up-regulation of Mrp3 and decreased Mrp2 function, along with reduced Oatp uptake, elevated SfB-G AUC by 165-fold. SfB-G AUC in the O^(-/--)NASH group increased by 108-fold compared to WT-C (3.2-fold compared to O^(-/--)C). SfB-G AUC in the Mrp2^(-/--)NASH group increased by 450-fold (1.2-fold compared to Mrp2^(-/--)C). Taken together, the mislocalization of Mrp2 in NASH is a major contributor to the decrease in SfB-G biliary efflux, but decreased Oatp uptake and enhanced sinusoidal efflux also limit the contribution of downstream hepatocytes, resulting in plasma retention that recapitulates the altered pharmacokinetics observed in human NASH.

Since the emergence of cancer nanomedicine, researchers have had intense interest in developing nanoparticles （NPs） that can specifically target diseased sites while avoiding healthy tissue to mitigate the off-target effects seen with conventional treatments like chemotherapy. Initial endeavors focused on the bioconjugation of targeting agents to NPs, and more recently, researchers have begun to develop biomimetic NP platforms that can avoid immune recognition to maximally accumulate in tumors. In this review, we describe the advantages and limitations of each of these targeting strategies. first, we review developments in bioconjugation strategies, where NPs are coated with biomolecules such as antibodies, aptamers, peptides, and small molecules to enable cell-specific binding. While bioconjugated NPs offer many exciting features and have improved pharmacokinetics and biodistribution relative to unmodified NPs, they are still recognized by the body as ＂foreign＂, resulting in their clearance by the mononuclear phagocytic system （MPS）. To overcome this limitation, researchers have recently begun to investigate biomimetic approaches that can hide NPs from immune recognition and reduce clearance by the MPS. These biomimetic NPs fall into two distinct categories： synthetic NPs that present naturally occurring structures, and NPs that are completely disguised by natural structures. Overall bioconjugated and biomimetic NPs have substantial potential to improve upon conventional treatments by reducing off-target effects through site-specific delivery. and they show great promise for future standards of care. Here, we provide a summary of each strategy, discuss considerations for their design moving forward, and highlight their potential clinical impact on cancer therapy.

OBJECTIVE: To verify the action of non-pharmacological interventions, whole body vibration exercise (WBVE) and auriculotherapy (AT) on the management of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) analyzing the handgrip strength (HS). METHODS: One hundred twelve participants with KOA were allocated in (a) WBVE group with peak-to-peak displacement of 2.5 to 7.5 mm, frequency from 5 up to 14 Hz, acceleration peak from 0.12 up to 2.95 g (2 d/weekly for 5 weeks),(b) AT group, points of both ears (Kidney, Knee-correspondent point and Shenmen) were stimulated with seeds,(c) WBVE + AT group and (d) respective control groups. HS was assessed in all the participants, in acute and cumulative responses. RESULTS: The intervention with WBVE alone and combined with AT improved (P ffects that interfere with the HS in individuals with KOA.

Background: Motor competence and health-related fitness are important components for the development and maintenance of a healthy lifestyle in children. This study examined cross-cultural performances on motor competence and health-related fitness between Portuguese and ***: Portuguese(n = 508; 10.14 § 2.13 years, mean § SD) and U.S.(n = 710; 9.48 § 1.62 years) children performed tests of cardiorespiratory fitness(Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run), upper body strength(handgrip), locomotor skill performance(standing long jump), and object projection skill performance(throwing and kicking). Portuguese and U.S. children were divided into 2 age groups(6à9 and 10à13 years) for data analysis purposes. A twoàfactor oneàway analysis of covariance(ANOVA) was conducted with the Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run, handgrip, standing long jump scores, kicking, and throwing speed(km/h) as dependent ***: Results indicated that Portuguese children, irrespective of sex, presented better performances in locomotor and cardiorespiratory performance(standing long jump and Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run) than U.S. children in both age bands. U.S. children outperformed Portuguese children during throwing and handgrip tests. Kicking tests presented gender differences: Portuguese boys and U.S. girls outperformed their internationally matched ***: Cultural differences in physical education curricula and sports participation may impact differences in motor competence and fitness development in these countries.

Morphological abnormalities in wild animals can be indicators of the underlying health of a population and may be determined through routine photographic ***,we assess unusual rostrum conditions in Indian Ocean humpback dolphins(Sousa plumbea)inhabiting South African coastal waters to understand the rate of prevalence of abnormal rostrums and formulate hypotheses on potential *** data were collated from sys-tematic boat surveys and opportunistic sightings,obtained between April 1998 and March 2021 in various regions along the South African ***,31 unique individuals were found with abnormal rostrum conditions,vary-ing from slight misalignments to severe wounds and/or aberrant *** most cases,injuries were likely caused by natural events during the animal’s life history such as interactions with sharks and/or reef-associated hunting ***–recapture data indicated that individuals had survived with these injuries for up to 10 *** study reports the highest incidence of rostrum abnormalities in the *** numbers reﬂect only those that have survived their injuries,they are considered a minimum estimate.A better understanding of the cause(s)of these injuries is important given the endangered status of this species.

A large portion of the Loess Plateau of China is characterized as “marginal” with serious land degradation and desertification problems. Consequently, two policies, Grain for Green and Western Development Action were established by the Chinese government in response to the demand for ecological protection and economic development in the Loess Plateau. These policies are designed to increase forest cover, expand farmlands, and enhance soil and water conservation, while creating sustainable vegetation restoration. Perennial grasses have gained attention as bioenergy feedstocks due to their high biomass yields, low inputs, and greater ecosystem services compared to annual crops. Moreover, perennial grasses limit nutrient runoff and reduce greenhouse gas emissions and soil losses while sequestering carbon. Additionally, perennial grasses can generate economic returns for local farmers through producing bioenergy feedstock or forage on marginal lands. Here, we suggest a United States model energy crop, switchgrass（Panicum virgatum L.） as a model crop to minimize land degradation and desertification and to generate biomass for energy on the Loess Plateau.
