Urban barriers are often a consequence of the unplanned expansion of transport infrastructures,housing growth nearby existing transport infrastructures,and the vehicular traffic *** process,also known as“community severance”,is a problem that affects the travel patterns of the population and causes negative impacts to adjacent communities,but it is not easy to *** an alternative to the costly technologies and restricted-access data sometimes used to analyze urban barriers,we propose an analytical approach that assesses community severance levels by classifying the quality of pedestrian Crossings on Urban Streets(the peCUS index).Additionally,the approach is used to identify possible inequities nearby the different classification groups regarding demographic *** used the chi-square(χ^(2))test of independence and the standardized pearson residuals to indicate deficits and excesses of residents regarding the demographic characteristics studied surrounding the urban *** found the following evidences of associations:residents with low-income or those aged up to 19 tend to live close to the worst crossings,whereas residents with permanent mobility constraints or the elderly tend to live near the crossings with the best ***,the study shows that the assessment of community severance by the analysis of the peCUS index is ***,it reveals that the distribution of residents surrounding the distinct classes of quality of crossings is equitable for vulnerable social groups,except for low-income or young residents.

Objective: To identify and synthesize the most recent available evidence of effectiveness of acupuncture on pain, physical function and health-related quality of life(HRQoL) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis(RA). Methods: A comprehensive search of 12 Western and Chinese databases was undertaken from their inception up to end of 2016. Randomized controlled trials(RCTs), concerning patients with RA treated with needle acupuncture, written in English, portuguese, German or Chinese were included. primary outcomes included pain, physical function and HRQoL. Secondary outcomes included morning stiffness, functional impairment, number of tender and swollen joints and serum concentrations of inflamatory markers. Methodological quality was assessed by three independent reviewers using the standardized critical appraisal instrument from the Joanna Briggs Institute Meta-Analysis of Statistics Assessment and Review Instrument. Results: Twenty-two studies met the inclusion criteria. Of those, 9 studies were excluded after assessment of their methodological quality. The remaining 13 original RCTs included 974 patients. Ten of these studies published in China, showed favorable statistical significant effects of acupuncture in relieving symptoms of RA compared with controls. Conclusions: Evidence suggests that acupuncture interventions may have a positive effect in pain relief, physical function and HRQo L in RA patients. However, due to the heterogeneity and methodologic limitations of the studies included in this systematic review, evidence is not strong enough to produce a best practice guideline.

plant extracts (pEs) are frequently used as ingredients in skin and hair care products to improve protection against the excess of sun exposure. pEs are usually selected based on their antioxidant capacity for reducing the damage in lipids and proteins, which are key molecules in the maintenance of skin homeostasis and hair integrity. Interestingly, biomolecules that do not have any antioxidant capacity can have a protective effect by physically adsorbing and inhibiting leakage of membranes. Our aims are: 1) to develop an experimental protocol that quantifies the level of membrane damage/protection;2) to recommend an approach to compare the membrane protection efficiency of different pEs;3) to briefly describe the mechanisms of membrane protection. Evaluation of membrane damage/protection is based on a phospholipid liposome system that signals the membrane rupture caused by photo-induced lipid oxidation. Carboxyfluorescein (CF) emission is monitored as a function of time (120 min) in a controlled experimental setup, in which a certain level of membrane damage is induced by Dimethyl-Methylene Blue (DMMB) photosensitized oxidation during red-light irradiation. percentage levels of membrane damage/protection are calculated by comparing the CF fluorescence level of DMMB-liposomes in the presence of varying concentrations of membrane-protective ingredients with that of surfactant-dissolved DMMB-liposomes. Membrane protectants reduce the level of CF fluorescence during irradiation of DMMB-liposomes. Gallic acid (GA) and trehalose (Tre) were used as standard compounds to compute the levels of protection by the antioxidant and physical adsorption mechanisms, respectively. The percentage of membrane protection was shown to be linearly proportional to the concentration of the standard protectants. poly（lactic acid）（pLA）-containing nerve guidance conduits（NGCs） are currently being investigated for nerve repair as an alternative to autograft, which leads to permanent functional impairment in the territory innervated by the removed nerve. Combination of polymers modifies the physical properties of the conduits, altering their nerve-guidance properties. Conduits made from pLA-only or combined with other polymers have been used successfully for nerve repair, but their efficiency has not been compared. We compared the morphological and functional outcomes of peripheral nerve repair by using NGCs made of poly（lactic acid） and combined or not with polycaprolactone（pLA/pCL） or polyvinylpyrrolidone（pLA/pVp）. To assess the functional recovery, we employed a mechanical hyperalgesia analysis, sciatic functional index（SFI）, and electroneuromyography. The mechanical hyperalgesia analysis showed that the pLA group improved more rapidly than the pLA/pVp and pLA/pCL groups; similarly, in the electroneuromyography assay, the pLA group exhibited higher amplitude than the pLA/pCL and pLA/pVp groups. However, the SFI improvement rates did not differ among the groups. Morphologically, the pLA group showed more vascularization, while the nerve fiber regeneration did not differ among the groups. In conclusion, the pLA-only conduits were superior to the other NGCs tested for nerve repair.

The genus Cryptococcus is composed of encapsulated yeasts that have the ability to infect and cause disease in humans, as Cryptococcus gattii/Cryptococcus neoformans species complex. Facing the current research panel, few studies about cryptococcosis and epidemiological data have been carded out in the western region of Sao paulo state. This study aimed to verify the occurrence of Cryptococcus spp. In public areas of the city of presidente prudente, using pigeon droppings and tree hollows as an environmental source. The samples were identified by conventional mycological methods. Were collected 54 samples from pigeon droppings and 62 samples from tree hollows of the genus Licania. And of these samples, 47 （87.0%） and 14 （22.5%） had positive growth of yeast from pigeon droppings and tree hollows, respectively. Cryptococcus was identified in 11 （20.4%） of the samples from pigeon droppings and 3 （21.4%） of those from tree hollows. The following species were identified： Cryptococcus neoformans （7.15%）, Cryptococcus laurentti （14.28%）, and Cryptococcus albidus （78.57%）. Decreased susceptibility to fluconazole was observed for some isolates. Fluconazole exhibited a limited in vitro activity, particularly against Cryptococcus albidus and Cryptococcus laurentii. Identification and susceptibility testing of Cryptococcus spp. should be performed on a routine basis in view of their unpredictable susceptibility profiles.

The increase in chronic diseases in childhood highlights the need for a biopsychosocial approach to deal with the complexity of these health conditions. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) results from the need to implement new explanatory evaluative and therapeutic models. Thus, the present systematic review aims to identify published studies on the use of the ICF in chronic childhood diseases. As a secondary objective, to map the themes that have already been studied in the area to support the discussion on the expansion of the use of this classification in health services. The systematic review followed the pRISMA protocol, and the model was the pICO acronym, where population was children and adolescents with chronic diseases, Intervention/Exposure was evaluation based on ICF concepts, Comparator was any tool, instrument, or intervention, and outcome was direct or indirect use of the ICF. We selected eight articles, five of which used the ICF as a conceptual tool and three as a classification system, divided into the following themes: quality of life, evaluation of patients (without using coding) and mapping the inclusion of the activity’s results and participation in clinical trials. Thus, use of the ICF in clinical practice is still incipient, although it has been recommended in guidelines. Further studies are necessary to expand the number of contributions by the ICF and to develop the necessary approaches for understanding the classification’s use.

The article presents a critical review regarding the premature termination of eating disorder’s treatment among inpatients and outpatients, with the aim of identifying—emotional, psychodynamic and family-related aspects involved. The search strategy used the following MeSH terms combined by Boolean operators: “eating disorders” AND “treatment” OR “patient dropouts” OR “drop-out/dropouts” OR “attrition” OR “premature termination” AND “empirical study” OR “qualitative research”, for on Medline/pUBMED, psycINFO and EMBASE databases. This article follows the pRISMA Guidelines. A total of 26 studies composed this review, of which 24 were original research articles, 1 was a review and 1 a theoretical article. Only two articles applied qualitative methods analyzing categories of content obtained by in-depth interviews, three combine quantitative and qualitative methods and other three present qualitative analyses while discussing quantitative studies. Further qualitative studies should be carried out to clarify meanings of dropout, premature termination of treatment, and attrition. Different expectations held by patients and by therapeutic teams, and the interpersonal difficulties of these types of patients, stand out as difficulties in constructing “therapeutic alliances”, with impacts on dropout, premature termination and attrition rates.
