Fatty acid content in epididymal fluid and spermatozoa during sperm maturation in dogs

Background： During sperm maturation, there is a reorganization of fatty acids from plasmatic membrane of the spermatozoa, which allows higher membrane integrity and acquisition of sperm motility. However, the fatty acid profile during sperm maturation remains unclear in dogs. Thus, the aim of this study was to identify the fatty acids from the epididymal spermatozoa and plasma during the sperm maturation, and observed changes in the motility and plasmatic membrane parameters. Twenty one adult dogs were used, subsequently to bilateral orchiectomy and epididymal storage, sperm samples were collected from the different segments of the epididymis. samples were evaluated for conventional microscopy, computer-assisted motility analysis, sperm plasma membrane permeability and the fatty acid analysis（lipids were extracted, transmethylated and analyzed by chromatography）.Results： Caput and corpus sperm showed lower values for the motility variables evaluated and plasmatic membrane integrity, indicating different levels of the fatty acids organization. saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids were in higher concentrations in the spermatozoa from epididymis cauda. Highlighting the presence of caprylic, stearic and docosahexaenoic ***： These findings demonstrate the influence of the fatty acid profile during sperm maturation, assigning physical and chemical changes in sperm cells, essential for fertilization.

As the population ages,the burden of age-related diseases becomes ***,over 55 million people suffer from dementia worldwide,with Alzheimer’s disease being the most common ***,it is becoming clearer that underlying vascular pathology such as cerebral small vessel disease(csVD)may be a more detrimental cause for dementia(Cuadrado-Godia et al.,2018).It is estimated that 10%-30%of the elderly population and 35%-90%of all dementia patients exhibit signs of *** term csVD refers to pathology affecting the small vessels of the brain,which can lead to lacunar cerebral infarcts,enlarged perivascular spaces,and cortical hemorrhages(Cuadrado-Godia et al.,2018).CsVD is often associated with cognitive decline,gait problems,and dementia(Cuadrado-Godia et al.,2018).

Microfluidics has demonstrated high versatility in the analysis of in-flow particles and can even achieve mechanical properties measurements of biological cells by applying hydrodynamic ***,there is currently no available technique that enables the direct measurement and tracking of these hydrodynamic forces acting on a flowing *** this work,we introduce a novel method for the direct measurement of the hydrodynamic force actuating on an in-flow particle based on the analysis of the induced resonance changes of suspended microchannel resonators(sMRs).This hydrodynamic force sensitivity depends on the device used;therefore,we considered the geometry and materials to advance this dependency on the sMR resonance frequency.

Wafer-scale Ag<sub>2sub>s-Based Memristive Crossbar Arrays with Ultra-Low switching-Energies Reaching Biological synapses

Memristive crossbar arrays (MCAs) offer parallel data storage and processing for energy-efficient neuromorphic computing. However, most wafer-scale MCAs that are compatible with complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOs) technology still suffer from substantially larger energy consumption than biological synapses, due to the slow kinetics of forming conductive paths inside the memristive units. Here we report wafer-scale Ag2s-based MCAs realized using CMOs-compatible processes at temperatures below 160 degrees C. Ag2s electrolytes supply highly mobile Ag+ ions, and provide the Ag/Ag2s interface with low silver nucleation barrier to form silver filaments at low energy costs. By further enhancing Ag+ migration in Ag2s electrolytes via microstructure modulation, the integrated memristors exhibit a record low threshold of approximately - 0.1 V, and demonstrate ultra-low switching-energies reaching femtojoule values as observed in biological synapses. The low-temperature process also enables MCA integration on polyimide substrates for applications in flexible electronics. Moreover, the intrinsic nonidealities of the memristive units for deep learning can be compensated by employing an advanced training algorithm. An impressive accuracy of 92.6% in image recognition simulations is demonstrated with the MCAs after the compensation. The demonstrated MCAs provide a promising device option for neuromorphic computing with ultra-high energy-efficiency.

sm-Nd systematics of metaultramafic-mafic rocks from the Arroio Grande Ophiolite(Brazil): Insights on the evolution of the south Adamastor paleo-ocean

In this contribution we present new insights on the evolution of the Dom Feliciano Belt,southernmost Mantiqueira Province,integrating new whole-rock sm-Nd isotopic data for the Arroio Grande Ophiolite(Punta del Este Terrane,Brazil/Uruguay border)with previously published bulk-rock and isotope geochemistry of the south Adamastor paleo-ocean metamafic rocks located in Uruguay(Paso del Dragon Complex,Punta del Este Terrane)and Namibia(Chameis subterrane,Marmora Terrane,Gariep Belt).For the regional geology,the new data corroborate previous hypothesis and demonstrate the depleted mantle features of the amphibolites and metagabbros of the studied *** Arroio Grande Ophiolite rocks are compared with its Uruguayan and Namibian counterparts,demonstrating their isotopic and geochemical similarities and differences,and the backarc affinity of the south Adamastor *** MORB-affinity amphibolites from the Arroio Grande Ophiolite-Paso del Dragon Complex are,so far,the most juvenile rocks in the eastern sector of the Dom Feliciano Belt,yielding εNd(640)Ma)between+7.3 and+9,and high 147sm/144Nd(>0.169)and 143Nd/144Nd(640 Ma)ratios(0.51219-0.51229).The south Adamastor is interpreted in this paper as an internal back-arc ocean,with limited lateral extension,opened at around 750-650 Ma as the result of the closure of the older Charrua-Goianide paleoocean during the Brasiliano/Pan-African orogenic cycle and final configuration of the West Gondwana paleocontinent.

Pathophysiology and treatment of Barrett's esophagus

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) affects an estimated 20% of the population in the United states. About 10%-15% of patients with GERD develop Barrett’s esophagus, which can progress to adenocarcinoma, currently the most prevalent type of esophageal cancer. The esophagus is normally lined by squamous mucosa, therefore, it is clear that for adenocarcinoma to develop, there must be a sequence of events that result in transformation of the normal squamous mucosa into columnar epithelium. This sequence begins with gastroesophageal reflux, and with continued injury metaplastic columnar epithelium develops. This article reviews the pathophysiology of Barrett’s esophagus and implications for its treatment. The effect of medical and surgical therapy of Barrett’s esophagus is compared.
