ExquiMo： An Exquisite Corpse Tool for Collaborative 3D Shape Design

We introduce ExquiMo, a collaborative modeling tool which enables novice users to work together to generate interesting, and even creative, 3D shapes. Inspired by an Exquisite Corpse gameplay, our tool allocates distinct parts of a shape to multiple players who model the assigned parts in a sequence. Our approach is motivated by the understanding that effective surprise leads to creative outcomes. Hence, to maintain the surprise factor of the output, we conceal the previously modeled parts from the most recent player. Part designs from individual players are fused together to produce an often unexpected and novel end result. We investigate the effectiveness of collaboration on the output designs by conducting a sequence of user studies to validate the hypotheses formed based on our research questions. Results of the user studies are supportive of our hypotheses that multi-user collaborative 3D modeling via ExquiMo tends to lead to more creative novice designs according to the commonly used criteria for creativity： novelty and surprise.

This paper demonstrates the application of a design tool called BioTRIZ. Its developers claim that it can be used to access biological strategies for solving engineering problems. Our aim is to design a roof for hot climates that gets free cooling through radiant coupling with the sky. The insulation in a standard roof stops the sun and convection from warming the thermal mass. But it also restricts the mass＇s longwave view of the cool sky. Different solutions to this conflict are offered by BioTRIZ. The chosen solution is to replace the standard insulation component with an open cell honeycomb. The vertical cells would allow longwave radiation to pass, while arresting convection. The solutions offered by BioTRIZ＇s technological counterpart include no such changes in structure. It is estimated that the thermal mass in the biomimetic roof would remain on average 4.5℃ cooler than in a standard roof over a year in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Numerous analytical models have been developed to predict ground deformations induced by tunneling,which is a critical issue in tunnel ***,the accuracy of these predictions is often limited by errors and uncertainties resulting from model selection and parameter fittings,given the paucity of monitoring data in field *** paper proposes a novel approach to estimate tunnelling-induced ground deformations by applying Bayesian model averaging to several representative prediction *** accounting for both model and parameter uncertainties,this approach enables more realistic predictions of ground deformations than individual ***,our results indicate that the Gonzalez-Sagaseta model outperforms other models in predicting ground surface settlements,while the Loganathan-Poulos model is most suitable for predicting subsurface vertical and horizontal ***,our analysis reveals that when monitoring data are sparse,model uncertainties may contribute up to 78.7%of the total ***,obtaining sufficient data for parameter fitting is crucial for accurate *** proposed method in this study offers a more realistic and efficient prediction of tunnelling-induced ground deformations.

Objective:To determine the prevalence and risk factors associated with drug resistant tuberculosis(TB) in South West ***:A retrospective study conducted among pulmonary tuberculosis(PTB) patients from Oyo and Osun States in South West Nigeria who had their culture and drug susceptibility test performed at the institute of tropical medicine Antwerp, Belgium between 2007 and *** on the patient’s characteristics were retrieved from the TB treatment *** analysis was performed to assess the risk factors for drug resistant *** Level of significance was at P<***:Among the 88 patients who had drug-susceptibility test result,there were 50 males and 38 *** the 88 patients,55(62.5%) had strains resistant to at least one or more *** proportion of TB cases with resistance to a single drug was 12.7%.The multi-drug resistant TB(MDR-TB) rate was 76.4%.The only significant factor for the development of drug resistance and MDR was the history of previous anti TB treatment(P<0.01).Other factors such as age[OR 0.86(0.35-2.13);P=0.72]and gender[OR 1.24 (0.49-3.14);P=0.62]were not significantly associated with drug resistance ***:The study highlighted a high prevalence of MDR-TB among the study *** of previous TB treatment was associated with *** is an urgent need to conduct a national TB drug resistance survey to determine the actual burden and risk factors associated with drug resistance TB in the country.

Neurodegenerative diseases are caused by the loss of neuro- nal cells. As neurons deteriorate, a patient may experience relatively mild symptoms such as failing to name objects and people. However, with the progression of the disease, symp- toms worsen resulting in loss of independence and a sense of＂loss of oneself＂. Finally, the patient dies from a variety of complications.

Listwise approaches are an important class of learning to rank, which utilizes automatic learning techniques to discover useful information. Most previous research on listwise approaches has focused on optimizing ranking models using weights and has used imprecisely labeled training data; optimizing ranking models using features was largely ignored thus the continuous performance improvement of these approaches was hindered. To address the limitations of previous listwise work, we propose a quasi-KNN model to discover the ranking of features and employ rank addition rule to calculate the weight of combination. On the basis of this, we propose three listwise algorithms, FeatureRank, BL-FeatureRank, and DiffRank. The experimental results show that our proposed algorithms can be applied to a strict ordered ranking training set and gain better performance than state-of-the-art listwise algorithms.

An entropy-stabilized multicomponent ultrahigh-temperature ceramic(UHTC)coating,(Ti_(0.25)V_(0.25)Zr_(0.25)Hf_(0.25))B_(2),on a graphite substrate was in-situ sintered by spark plasma sintering(SPs)from constituent transition metal diboride ***(Ti_(0.25)V_(0.25)Zr_(0.25)Hf_(0.25))B_(2) coating had a hardness of 31.2±2.1 GPa and resisted 36.9 GPa of stress before delamination,as observed at the *** temperature-dependent thermal properties of the multicomponent diboride(Ti_(0.25)V_(0.25)Zr_(0.25)Hf_(0.25))B_(2) were obtained by molecular dynamics(MD)simulations driven by a machine learning force field(MLFF)trained on density functional theory(DFT)*** thermal conductivity,density,heat capacity,and coefficient of thermal expansion obtained by the MD simulations were used in time-dependent thermal stress finite element model(FEM)*** low thermal conductivity(lar coefficient of thermal expansion to that of graphite indicated that stresses of less than 10 GPa were generated at the interface at high temperatures,and therefore,the coating was mechanically resistant to the thermal stress induced during *** experiments at 220℃ showed that the multicomponent diboride coating was resistant to thermal stresses with no visible cracking or *** ablation mechanisms were mechanical denudation and evaporation of B_(2)O_(5) and light V-Ti oxides,which caused a decrease in the mass and thickness of the coating and resulted in mass and linear ablation rates of-0.51 mg·s^(-1) and -1.38μm·s^(-1),respectively,after 60 *** findings demonstrated the thermal and mechanical stability of multicomponent entropy-stabilized diborides as coatings for carbon materials in engineering components under extreme environments.

Efficient blue perovskite LEDs from quantum confined structures

Lead halide perovskites have been leading the optoelectronic field for the last several years,with exceptional progress in photovoltaics and rapid improvement in light emitting diodes(LEDs).LEDs are limited by outcoupling and waveguiding to approximately 20%external quantum efficiency(EQE),and infrared and green perovskite LEDs have already reached this threshold[1-3].For most applications,however,blue light is also required,and blue perovskite LEDs have been left behind,with a maximum EQE of 5.7%at 480 nm[4],and〜2%at wavelengths less than 470 nm[5].These lower efficiencies are due to both challenges inherent in blue(i.e.,wide band gap)materials as well as stability and defect problems specific to blue perovskites.
