Kikuchi-Fujimoto Disease Associated to the Epstein-barr Virus. A type of Rare Necrotizing Lymphadenitis and Its Differential Diagnosis

Introduction: Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD), also known as histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis, is a specific and self-limited disease;its etiology is unknown. Some causal microorganisms have been proposed. the objective of the present article is to emphasize the clinicopathological characteristics of this disease that has been associated to the Epstein-barr virus and to compare the histological changes with other types of necrotizing lymphadenopathies. Material and Methods: We studied 32 patients of the Surgical Pathology Service with necrotizing lymphadenitis, diagnosed in the years from 2004 to 2012 to found more cases of this rare disease in our Institution. Patients were 18 women and 14 men with an average age of 37 years. Results: the lymph nodes were cervical and axillary ones, some were associated to autoimmune diseases and no cause was identified in others. One of the cases, was diagnosed as KFD, presented morphological changes characteristic of this disease, such as subcapsular lymphoid follicles, zones with cell debris, epithelioid macrophages, clear-cytoplasm histiocytes, and immunoblast-reactive lymphocytes. Immunohistochemical markers were determined, such as CD20, CD2, CD4, CD8, CD68, lysozyme, CD56, granzyme b and EbER, which demonstrated the presence of b, t lymphocytes, histiocytes and cells positive to EbER. Histological changes in KFD occurred in three stages: proliferative stage, necrotizing, and xanthomatous. It is important to identify the histological stages of the disease because a differential diagnosis must be performed in regard to lymphadenopathies with necrosis and diverse types of lymphomas. Conclusion: We present a case of necrotizing lymphadenitis (KFD) associated to the Epstein-barr virus and in some cases it is not possible to render a specific diagnosis based on morphologic findings, alone, and a diagnosis of necrotizing lymphadenitis may be used.

It is estimated that between 0.3% - 0.5% of patients with cholelithiasis have biliary ileus, of this small proportion, only between 1% - 3% is complicated by the syndrome described in 1896 by Leon Bouveret. Bouveret syndrome refers to the obstruction of the gastric outlet tract secondary to the passage and impactation of a gallstone in the duodenum, through a cholecystoduodenal fistula. It is most common in women, between the ages of 74 - 77 and is clinically characterized by pain, bloating, incoercible vomiting and anorexia.

Induced Hall-Like Current by Acoustic Phonons in Semiconductor Fluorinated Carbon Nanotube

We show that Hall-like current can be induced by acoustic phonons in a nondegenerate, semiconductor fluorine-doped single-walled carbon nanotube (FSWCNt) using a tractable analytical approach in the hypersound regime ?(q is the modulus of the acoustic wavevector and is the electron mean free path). We observed a strong dependence of the Hall-like current on the magnetic field, H, the acoustic wave frequency, , the temperature, t, the overlapping integral, , and the acoustic wavenumber, q. Qualitatively, the Hall-like current exists even if the relaxation time does not depend on the carrier energy but has a strong spatial dispersion, and gives different results compared to that obtained in bulk semiconductors. For and , the Hall-like current is in the absence of an electric field and in the presence of an electric field at 300 K. Similarly, the surface electric field due to the Hall-like current is in the absence of an external electric field. In the presence of an external electric field, and for at 300 K. q and can be used to tune the Hall-like current and of the FSWCNt. this offers the potential for room temperature application as an acoustic switch or transistor, as well as a material for ultrasound current source density imaging (UCSDI) and AE hydrophone device in biomedical engineering.

Pharmacotechnical and Chemical Study of Paracetamol Sold in Kinshasa-DR Congo: Comparative Quality Assessment of Five brands

Paracetamol/Acetaminophen was assessed in different 5 brands comparatively to study its physicochemical and pharmaceutical parameters. We also evaluated the similarity among those brands. Widely used as an antipyretic and analgesic agent to cure fever and pain, the therapeutic efficacy of this product depends on both physicochemical and pharmaceutical qualities which include its conformity to standard specifications according to the active ingredient dosage in the formulation. this research work aimed to assess comparatively 5 paracetamol brands tablet form sold in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (particularly in Kinshasa), on their physicochemical and pharmaceutical tests conformities compared to the standard specifications. based on tests, we evaluated the uniformity of weight, disintegration time, friability, crushing strength (hardness), and the active ingredient dosage per brand. the tests were performed using the SotaxtM apparatus according to standard methods following the pharmacopoeia protocols. And according to the performed tests, only the fifth brand of Paracetamol coded P5 did not satisfy the friability test. About the hardness test, we have also observed the unconformity of three brands (P1, P2, and P3) while both P4 and P5 satisfied the test. this leads us to conclude that among all the studied brands, only P5 satisfy to all the tests either pharmacotechnically or chemically (identification and dosage). And this study allowed us to re-examine the equivalence concept between several princeps (original brand) with their generics since that similarity depends on many parameters that need to be improved during the manufacturing process including in-process analysis in all the phases of preparation to evaluate the rate of either active ingredient or inactive ingredient because each component can affect seriously the final pharmaceutical formulation quality.

Effects of Selective biotinylation on the thermodynamic Stability of Human Serum Albumin

thermal denaturation and stability of two commercially available preparations of Human Serum Albumin (HSA), differing in their advertised level of purity, were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). these protein samples were 99% pure HSA (termed HSAb>99b>) and 96% pure HSA (termed HSAb>96b>). According to the supplier, the 3% difference in purity between HSAb>96b> and HSAb>99b> is primarily attributed to the presence of globulins and fatty acids. Our primary aim was to investigate the utility of DSC in discerning changes in HSA that occur when the protein is specifically adducted, and determine how adduct formation manifests itself in HSA denaturation curves, or thermograms, measured by DSC. Effects of site specific covalent attachment of biotin (the adduct) on the thermodynamic stability of HSA were investigated. Each of the HSA preparations was modified by biotinylation targeting a single site, or multiple sites on the protein structure. thermograms of both modified and unmodified HSA samples successfully demonstrated the ability of DSC to clearly discern the two HSA preparations and the presence or absence of covalent modifications. DSC thermogram analysis also provided thermodynamic characterization of the different HSA samples of the study, which provided insight into how the two forms of HSA respond to covalent modification with biotin. Consistent with published studies [1] HSAb>96b>, the preparation with contaminants that contain globulins and fatty acids seems to be comprised of two forms, HSAb>96-Lb> and HSAb>96-Hb>, with HSAb>96-Lb> more stable than HSAb>99b>. the effect of multisite biotinylation is to stabilize HSAb>96-Lb> and destabilize HSAb>96-Hb>. thermodynamic analysis suggests that the binding of ligands comprising the fatty acid and globulin-like contaminant contributes approximately 6.7 kcal/mol to the stability HSAb>96-Lb>.

背景低温和酸中毒对不同临床状态下凝血疾患的影响已有报道。本研究中，我们对全血的凝血功能进行评估，以探讨低温和酸中毒对凝血的影响。方法采自10名健康志愿者（2女，8男）的全血样本（3．000μl），加入40μl摩尔浓度递加的盐酸，使血液酸化至pH（α-pH固定计）介于7．0和7．37之间。用内源性（IntEM^tM）和外源性（ExtEM^tM）活化方法孵化30分钟后，再用旋转血栓弹性测定法分析凝血功能。为了评估凝血功能对温度的依赖性，所有试验均在血液／血栓弹性测定仪的温度30、33、36和39℃下分别进行。此外，通过添加细胞松弛素D进行了另一项外源性激活方法，以此来检测在无血小板作用时，血凝块的形成情况。结果正常pH下低温导致了凝血时间延长[ExtEM：65秒±3．6（36℃）vs85±4（30℃），P〈0．001；IntEM：181秒±10（36℃）vs226±9，P〈0．001]，血凝块形成时间延长[ExtEM：105秒±5（36℃）vs 187±6（30℃），P〈0．001；IntEM：101秒±5（36℃）vs175±7，P〈0．001]，并且伴有α角的缩小，[ExtEM：65．6±1．8（36℃）vs 58±1．1，P〈0．01；IntEM：70．5±1．8（36℃）vs 60．2±1．5，P〈0．001]。最大血栓弹力仅在IntEM测定法中显著受损[56．9mm±0．9（36℃）vs 52．7±0．9，P〈0．05]。相反，正常体温下酸中毒本身无明显作用。酸中毒放大了低温的作用，并在内源性和外源性激活实验中，两者对凝血时间、d角、最大血栓弹力的影响有协同作用。用细胞松弛素D消除血小板功能后进行的纤维蛋白凝块形成试验显示，凝血功能并没有受损。血凝块溶解在低温和（或）酸中毒环境下减少，而在体温升高的情况下增加。结论在此体外研究中，血栓弹性测定法显示：酸中毒使低温引起的凝血功能改变恶化，而不伴低温的酸中毒对凝血功能无显著影响。这种情况是由于凝血因子和血小板功能受到抑制引起的。因此，在37℃下进行的血栓弹性测定法高估了低温尤其伴酸中毒时凝血功能的完整性。

微软案的核心是美国政府声称微软采取了一系列反竞争行为,其目的是保持其在操作系统(OS)市场上的垄断。美国政府并没有质疑微软历史上成功的根源,但是声称,微软的行为使消费者受到了损害,部分原因是因为消费者需要为操作系统支付更高的价钱,部分原因是因为微软的行为减少了软件行业的创新。而作为回应,微软则辩解道,在一个高速发展的产业中,它面临的是十分严峻的竞争威胁,因此并不存在垄断。它进一步辩解道,微软的成功应被视为是促进竞争的,因为从它的高质量创新型软件分销中,消费者得到了利益。如果法院强行实施反托拉斯纠正,微软相信,竞争的激励将会减少,并会导致更少的而不是更多的创新。

Rainfall accumulation thresholds are crucial for issuing landslide warnings by identifying when soil saturation from rain could potentially trigger a landslide. two essential types of thresholds are considered: environmental and operational. the environmental threshold indicates the minimum rainfall level required to potentially initiate a landslide. Conversely, the operational threshold is set lower to enable agencies to issue alerts before reaching environmental thresholds. Establishing these thresholds improves the accuracy of landslide predictions in terms of location and timing. this study introduces an innovative approach for determining these thresholds. Our approach employs cluster analysis and historical landslide data from the Metropolitan Region of Recife, Pernambuco State, brazil. We applied our defined values to a significant landslide event in 2022, validating their robustness as the foundation for the operational threshold used by Cemaden, brazil’s National Center for Monitoring and Early Warning of Natural Disasters.

Ciprofloxacin (CFX) was loaded on bana clay (Cameroon) and CFX loaded-clays have been evaluated as drug delivery system. Raw clays and CFX loaded compounds have been characterized by some physico-chemicals methods. In vitro release studies have been done in gastric and phosphate buffer experimental mediums;bacteriological studies have been made up on Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. X-ray diffractometry patterns of loaded compounds show a basal spacing increasing due to CFX intercalation. On Fourier-transformed Infrared spectrometry spectra, appearance of CFX characteristic bands and shifting of certain bands already presents on clay confirmed CFX intercalation. After 96 h of CFX released from release mediums, prolonged and continue profiles have been observed. Diffusion tests displayed an inhibition radius of ~2 cm on gelose seeded with Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus due to CFX. the overall results show a modified release of ciprofloxacin with an effective antibacterial activity, giving the way for a new ciprofloxacin drug delivery system using bana clay as carrier.
