Objective: Single-nucleotide polymor.hisms (SNPs) in the ataxia telangiectasiaemutated gene ATM have been linked with pneumonitis after.r.diother.py for.lung cancer.but have not been evaluated in ter.s of pulmonar. function impair.ent. Her. we investigated potential associations between SNPs in ATM and changes in diffusing capacity of the lung for.car.on monoxide (DLCO) in patients with nonesmall-cell lung cancer.(NSCLC) after.r.diother.py. Methods: Fr.m November.1998 thr.ugh June 2009, 448 consecutive patients with inoper.ble pr.mar. NSCLC under.ent definitive (≥60 Gy) r.diother.py, with or.without chemother.py. After.excluding patients with a histor. of thor.cic sur.er., r.-diation, or.lung cancer. without DNA samples available for.analysis; or.without pulmonar. function testing within the 12 months befor. and the 12 months after.r.diother.py, 100 patients wer. identified who ar. the subjects of this study. We genotyped two SNPs of ATM pr.viously found to be associated with r.diation-induced pneumonitis (r.189037 and r.228590) and evaluated potential cor.elations between these SNPs and impair.ent (decr.ases) in DLCO by using logistic r.gr.ssion analysis. r.sults: Univar.ate and multivar.ate analyses showed that the AA genotype of ATM r.189037 was associated with decr.ased DLCO after.definitive r.diother.py than the GG/AG genotypes (univar.ate coefficient, -0.122; 95％ confidence inter.al (CI),-0.236 to -0.008; P = 0.037; and multivar.ate coefficient, -0.102; 95％ CI, -0.198 to -0.005; P = 0.038)No such cor.elations wer. found for.r.228590 (univar.ate coefficient, -0.096; 95％ CI, -0.208 to 0.017; P = 0.096). Conclusions: The AA genotype of ATM r.189037 was associated with higher.r.sk of lung injur. than wer. the GG/AG genotypes in patients with NSCLC tr.ated with r.diother.py. This finding should be validated pr.spectively with other.patient populations.

Objective: The DNA r.pair.capacity (Dr.) of tumor.cells is an impor.ant contr.butor.to r.sistance to r.diation and platinum-based dr.gs. Because Dr. may be affected by tumor.cell metabolism, we measur.d Dr. in lymphocytes fr.m patients with non-small-cell lung cancer.(NSCLC) and compar.d the findings with the maximum standar.ized uptake value (SUVmax) on 18 F-fluor.deoxyglucose positr.n emission tomogr.phy (FDG PET) after.(chemo)r.diation ther.py. Methods: This study included 151 patients with stage IA-IV NSCLC who had FDG PET at a single institution and donated blood samples befor. chemother.py. We assessed the cor.elation of Dr., measur.d in per.pher.l T lymphocytes by a host-cell r.ac-tivation assay with SUVmax and their.associations with over.ll sur.ival (OS) time by hazar.s r.tios calculated with a Cox pr.-por.ional hazar.s r.gr.ssion model. r.sults: SUVmax of the pr.mar. tumor.at diagnosis was inver.ely associated with lymphocyte Dr. (r.－0.175, P＝0.032), par.icular.y among patients with advanced disease (r.＝－0.218, P ＝ 0.015). However. △SUVmax of pr.mar. tumor.was not significantly associated with Dr. (r.0.005, P＝0.968). SUVmax of r.gional lymph nodes at diagnosis (r.－0.307, P＝0.0008) and after.(chemo)r.diation tr.atment (r.－0.329, P＝0.034) and SUVmax of the pr.mar. tumor.after.(chemo)r.diation tr.atment (r.－0.253, P＝0.045) wer. also inver.ely associated with OS time. Glucocor.icoids play a key r.le in mediating str.ss r.sponses in ver.ebr.tes. Cor.icoster.ne （COr.） is the main glucocor.icoid pr.duced in amphibians, bir.s, and r.ptiles, and r.gulates sever.l metabolic functions. The most common methods for.quantifying COr. ar. competitive binding immunoassays： r.dioimmunoassay （r.A） and enzyme immunoassay （EIA）. r.A has been br.adly used since the 1980＇s but it r.quir.s r.dioactivity. Commer.ial EIA kits per.it quantifying hor.one levels without r.dioactivity although the r.quir.ment for.a lar.er.sample volume may be a str.ng limitation for.measur.ments involving lar.al amphibians. Her. we used Xenopus laevis tadpoles to compar. the per.or.ance of thr.e commonly used pr.cedur.s for.deter.ination of COr.： r.A on a chlor.for. extr.ct of whole-body homogenate, EIA on plasma, and EIA on supematant of whole-body homogenate. We tr.ated tadpoles with exogenous COr. at 0, 25, 50, and 100 nM. r.A could distinguish between 0 and 25 nM, and EIA on plasma between 0 and 50 nM, wher.as whole-body homogenate EIA only detected significant differ.nces between 0 and 100 r.M. Each pr.cedur. pr.sents advantages and disadvantages r.gar.ing sensitivity, the use of r.dioactivity, sample size, handling time, and economic cost. r.A is pr.fer.ed when studying small-bodied animals fr.m which blood samples cannot be obtained. When COr. level differ.nces ar. inter.ediate and blood sampling is possible, EIA on plasma is a good non-r.dioactive alter.ative. EIA on whole-body homogenates may be useful to assess qualitative changes in COr. levels when consider.ble differ.nces ar. expected. Finally, we discuss our.findings in the context of pr.vious studies on COr. in amphibians [Cur.ent Zoology 61 （5）： 835-845, 2015].

Backgr.und: Coupling biomass models with nutr.ent concentr.tions can pr.vide sound estimations of car.on and nutr.ent contents, enabling the impr.vement of car.on and nutr.ent balance in for.st ecosystems. Although nutr.ent concentr.tions ar. often assumed to be constant for.some species and specific tr.e components, at least in matur. stands,the concentr.tions usually var. with age, site index and even with tr.e density. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the sour.es of var.ation in nutr.ent concentr.tions in biomass compar.ments usually r.moved dur.ng har.esting oper.tions, cover.ng a r.nge of species and management conditions: semi-natur.l for.st, conventional for.st plantations and shor. r.tation for.str.(Sr.). Five species(Betula pubescens, Quer.us r.bur. Eucalyptus globulus, Eucalyptus nitens and Populus spp.) and 14 genotypes wer. consider.d. AIM To study tumor.r.sponse, and toler.bility of ar.er.ally dir.cted embolic ther.py(ADET) with polyethylene glycol embolics loaded with ir.notecan for.the tr.atment of color.ctal cancer.liver.metastases(Cr.-LM). Secondar. objectives wer. to monitor.quality of life, time to pr.gr.ssion and sur.ival of *** Patients wer. included in the study if they wer. affected by Cr.-LM, r.fr.ctor. to systemic chemother.py, tr.ated with ADET using polyethylene glycol embolics, and had liver.involvement r.r.sponse, per.or.ance status(PS), tumor.mar.er.antigens, and quality of life(QoL) wer. monitor.d at 1, 3 and 6 mo after.ADET. QoL was assessed with the Palliative Per.or.ance Scale(PPS).r.SULTS We tr.ated 50 consecutive Cr.-LM patients with ADET using polyethylene glycol embolics. Their.tumor.r.sponse one month after.ADET was: 28% of complete r.sponse(Cr., 48% of par.ial r.sponse(Pr., 8% stable disease(SD), and 16% of pr.gr.ssion. Tumor.r.sponse 3 mo after.ADET was Cr.24%, Pr.38%, SD 19% and pr.gr.ssion disease(PD) 19%. Tumor.r.sponse 6 mo after.ADET was Cr.18%, Pr.44%, SD 21% and PD 18%. QoL was 90% PPS at each time point. Median time to pr.gr.ssion for.patients who pr.gr.ssed was 2.5 mo(r.nge 0.8-6). Median follow-up was 14 mo(0.8-25 r.nge). ADETs wer. per.or.ed with no complications. Obser.ed side effects(mild or.moder.te intensity) wer.: Pain in 32% of patients, incr.ase of tr.nsaminase levels in 20% and fever.in 14%, wher.as 30% of patients did not complain any adver.e event. CONCLUSION The tr.atment of unr.sectable Cr.-LM with ADET using polyethylene glycol micr.spher.s loaded with ir.notecan was effective in tumor.r.sponse and r.sulted in mild toxicity, and good QoL.
