An electropenetrography waveform library for the probing and ingestion behaviors of Culex tarsalis on human hands

Electro–optic response in thin smectic C* film with chevron structures

The effects in electrostatic models of chevron surface-stabilized ferroelectric liquid crystals are investigated through numerical modeling. To study smectic C＊ director distribution within the cell, we consider two nonlinear approaches： the chevron interface does not interplay with the electric field; the electric field interplays with the chevron interface. The obtained results of the director field distribution are compared with the earlier linearized studies. We find that whether or not the electric field interplays with the chevron interface, the electro-optic response requires a generalized approach for its description. The threshold electric field, which is necessary for switching between two stable director states in the chevron cell is evaluated. This study suggests that, in many cases of practical interest, electro-optic response to the electric field and the threshold electric field can be precisely estimated. We argue that, beside being numerically efficient, our approach provides a convenient and a novel standpoint for looking at the electro-optic response problem.

This paper presents an original theoretical framework to model steel material properties in continuous casting line process. Specific properties arising from non-newtonian dynamics are herein used to indicate the natural convergence of distributed parameter systems to fractional order transfer function models. Data driven identification from a real continuous casting line is used to identify model of the electromagnetic actuator device to control flow velocity of liquid steel. To ensure product specifications, a fractional order control is designed and validated on the system. A projection of the closed loop performance onto the quality assessment at end production line is also given in this paper.

Response of phenology- and yield-related traits of maize to elevated temperature in a temperate region

Extreme high temperatures detrimental to maize production are projected to occur more frequently with future climate *** and yield-related traits were investigated under several levels of elevated temperature in two early-maturing hybrid cultivars:Junda 6(grown in northeastern China)and Chalok 1(grown in South Korea).They were cultivated in plastic houses in Suwon,Korea(37.27°n,126.99°E)held at target temperatures of ambient(AT),AT+1.5°C,AT+3°C,and AT+5°C at one sowing date in 2013 and three different sowing dates in *** and reproductive growth durations showed variation depending on sowing date,experimental year,and *** duration tended to decrease,but not necessarily,with temperature elevation,but somewhat increased again above a certain *** temperature-dependent variation was greater during grain filling than in the vegetative period before *** temperature showed no significant effects on duration or peak dates of silking and anthesis,and thus on anthesis–silking *** yield tended to decrease with temperature elevation above ambient,showing a sharper linear decrease with mean growing season temperature increase in Junda 6 than in Chalok *** decrease in kernel number accounted for a much greater contribution to the yield reductions due to temperature elevation than did the decrease in individual kernel weight in both *** harvestable kernel weight was not significantly affected by temperature elevation *** number showed a linear decrease with mean growth temperature from early ear formation to early grain-filling stage,with Junda 6 showing a much severer decrease than Chalok *** number reduction due to temperature elevation was attributable more to the decrease in differentiated ovule number than to the decrease in kernel set in Chalok 1,but largely to the decrease of kernel set in Junda 6.

BACKGROUnD Insulinomas are the most common type of functioning endocrine neoplasms of the pancreas presenting hypoglycemic *** characteristically develop symptoms while fasting,but some patients have reported symptoms only in the postprandial *** and prolonged hypoglycemic episodes can reduce the awareness of adrenergic symptoms,and patients may have amnesia,which delays *** SUMMARY We describe a case of a 24-year-old underweight patient who showed hypoglycemic symptoms for almost 6 *** patients with insulinoma characteristically develop symptoms while fasting,this young man had hypoglycemic symptoms up to one hour postprandially,especially after highsugar meals and after physical *** fasting tests and imaging methods performed at local hospitals were evaluated as negative for abnormal ***,brown adipose tissue exhibited increased metabolic activity,and some muscle groups had histological changes as indicated by positron emission tomography with 2-deoxy-2-[fluorine-18]fluoro-D-glucose integrated with computed *** deficiency was also histologically *** patient’s symptoms progressed over the years and occurred more frequently,i.e.,several times a month,and the patient had reduced awareness of adrenergic *** follow-up fasting test was positive,and the imaging results showed a tumor in the head of the *** patient underwent laparotomy with enucleation of the *** Weight gain and fasting hypoglycemia are not necessarily characteristics of *** prolonged cases,adrenergic symptoms can be suppressed.

A Jacobian-Free newton Krylov Implicit-Explicit Time Integration Method for Incompressible Flow Problems

We have introduced a fully second order IMplicit/EXplicit(IMEX)time integration technique for solving the compressible Euler equations plus nonlinear heat conduction problems(also known as the radiation hydrodynamics problems)in Kadioglu et al.,***[22,24].In this paper,we study the implications when this method is applied to the incompressible navier-Stokes(n-S)*** IMEX method is applied to the incompressible flow equations in the following *** hyperbolic terms of the flow equations are solved explicitly exploiting the well understood explicit *** the other hand,an implicit strategy is employed for the non-hyperbolic *** explicit part is embedded in the implicit step in such a way that it is solved as part of the non-linear function evaluation within the framework of the Jacobian-Free newton Krylov(JFnK)method[8,29,31].This is done to obtain a self-consistent implementation of the IMEX method that eliminates the potential order reduction in time accuracy due to the specific operator *** employ a simple yet quite effective fractional step projection methodology(similar to those in[11,19,21,30])as our preconditioner inside the JFnK *** present results from several test *** each test,we show second order time ***,we present a study for the algorithm performance of the JFnK solver with the new projection method based preconditioner.

Impact of on-range choice feeding with black soldier fly larvae(Hermetia illucens)on flock performance,egg quality,and range use of free-range laying hens

Semi-intensive free-range farm systems are common in Australia, and these systems frequently practise on-range feeding. The objective of this study was to investigate the benefit of on-range choice feeding on flock performance, egg quality, and range use of free-range laying hens using black soldier fly larvae(Hermetia illucens, BSF). A total of 160 mature ISA brown laying hens, previously determined to range daily, were allocated to a control group(control) or a treatment group(BSF) with various replicates depending on the parameter investigated. All hens were fed ad libitum indoors with a wheat-soy based diet formulated according to breed requirements. Black soldier fly hens were offered dried BSF larvae ad libitum on the range. Body weight, feed intake, BSF intake, egg production, feed conversion ratio, internal and external egg quality parameters, and individual range use using radio-frequency identification(RFID)technology was evaluated. Black soldier fly hens consumed on average 15 ± 1.7 g BSF larvae/hen per *** were no differences between BSF and control hens for any of the performance parameters obtained(P > 0.05). Egg weight, shell weight, and shell thickness of eggs from BSF hens were significantly lower(P = 0.003, P = 0.001, and P = 0.004, respectively) than those of eggs from control hens. Egg yolk colour was significantly paler in eggs from BSF hens(P no significant ranging differences between the BSF and control hens were observed(P > 0.05) except for BSF hens showing longer total maximum time for a single visit to the range(P = 0.011). In conclusion, the average intake of BSF larvae indicated a good level of acceptance. Feed formulation should be adjusted for the intake of the choice fed source. The impact of choice-feeding on range use was minor.

Association of initial assessment variables and mortality in severe pediatric traumatic brain injury

Background Predictive scales have been used to prognosticate long-term outcomes of traumatic brain injury(TBI),but gaps remain in predicting mortality using initial trauma resuscitation *** sought to evaluate the association of clinical variables collected during the initial resuscitation of intubated pediatric severe patients with TBI with in-hospital *** Intubated pediatric trauma patientsnuary 2011 to December 2020 were *** between initial trauma resuscitation variables(temperature,pulse,mean arterial blood pressure,GCS score,hemoglobin,international normalized ratio(InR),platelet count,oxygen saturation,end tidal carbon dioxide,blood glucose and pupillary response)and mortality were evaluated with multivariable logistic *** Among 314 patients,median age was 5.5 years(interquartile range(IQR):2.2-12.8),GCS score was 3(IQR:3-6),Head Abbreviated Injury Score(hAIS)was 4(IQR:3-5),and most had a severe(25-49)Injury Severity Score(ISS)(48.7%,153/314).Overall mortality was 26.8%.GCS score,hAIS,ISS,InR,platelet count,and blood glucose were associated with in-hospital mortality(all pnd GCS score increased,the odds of mortality *** 1-point increase in GCS score was associated with a 35%decrease in odds of *** hAIS,InR,and blood glucose increased,the odds of mortality *** each 1.0 unit increase in InR,the odds of mortality increased by 1427%.Conclusions Pediatric patients with severe TBI are at substantial risk for in-hospital *** are needed to examine whether earlier interventions targeting specific parameters of InR and blood glucose impact mortality.

Assessment of the exploitable biomass of thread herring(Opisthonema spp.)in northwestern Mexico

In recent years,the small pelagic fishery on the Pacific northwest coast of Mexico has significantly increased fishing pressure on thread herring Opisthonema *** fishery is regulated using a precautionary approach(acceptable biological catch(ABC)and minimum catch size).However,due to fishing dynamics,fish aggregation habits and increased fishing mortality,periodic biomass assessments are necessary to estimate ABC and assess the resource *** Catch-MSY approach was used to analyze historical series of thread herring catches off the western Baja California Sur(BCS,1981–2018)and the Gulf of California(GC,1972–2018)to estimate exploitable biomass and target reference points in order to obtain catch *** to the results,in GC,the maximum biomass reached in 1972(at the beginning of fishery)and minimum biomass reached in 2015;the estimated exploitable biomass for 2019 was 42.2×10^(4) t;and the maximum sustainable yield(MSY)was 15.4×10^(4) *** the western BCS coast,the maximum biomass was reached in 1981(at the beginning of fishery)and minimum biomass was reached in 2017;the estimated exploitable biomass for 2019 was 3.2×10^(4) t;and the MSY was 1.2×10^(4) *** stocks showed a decrease in biomass over the past years and were currently near to point of full *** results suggest that the use of the Catch-MSY method is suitable to obtain annual biomass estimates,in order to establish an ABC,to know the current state of the resource,and to avoid overcoming the potential recovery of the stocks.
