Three-dimensional(3D)printing is a rapidly evolving and promising field to improve outcomes of orthopaedic *** use of patient-specific 3D-printed models is specifically interesting in paediatric orthopaedic surgery,as limb deformity corrections often require an individual 3D *** this editorial,various operative applications of 3D printing in paediatric orthopaedic surgery are *** technical aspects and the imaging acquisition with computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging are ***,there is a focus on the intraoperative applications of 3D printing during paediatric orthopaedic surgical *** overview of various upper and lower limb deformities in paediatrics is given,in which 3D printing is already implemented,including posttraumatic forearm corrections and proximal femoral *** use of patient-specific instrumentation(PsI)or guiding templates during the surgical procedure shows to be promising in reducing operation time,intraoperative haemorrhage and radiation ***,3D-printed models for the use of PsI or patient-specific navigation templates are promising in improving the accuracy of complex limb deformity surgery in ***,the future of 3D printing in paediatric orthopaedics extends beyond the intraoperative applications;various other medical applications include 3D casting and prosthetic limb *** conclusion,3D printing opportunities are numerous,and the fast developments are exciting,but more evidence is required to prove its superiority over conventional paediatric orthopaedic surgery.

Origin of non-uniform plasticity in a high-strength Al-Mn-sc based alloy produced by laser powder bed fusion

The Al-Mn-sc-based alloys specific for additive manufacturing(AM)have been recently developed and can reach ultrahigh strength and adequate ***,these alloys commonly exhibit nonuniform plasticity during tensile deformation,which is a critical issue hindering their wider *** this work,the origin of this non-uniform plasticity of the alloys produced by laser powder bed fusion(LPBF)has been systematically investigated for the first *** results show that the loss of uniform plasticity in the alloy originates from microstructural regions containing equiaxed fine-grains(FGs)(~650nm in size)at the bottom of the melt *** micro-tensile tests,the strength of these FG regions can reach a peak of~630 *** this,an apparent yield drop occurs,followed by rapid strain *** FG behavior is associated with intermetallic particles along grain boundaries and a lack of uniform mobile dislocations during *** columnar coarse-grain(CG)regions in the remaining melt pools show uniform plasticity and moderate work ***,the quantitative calculations indicate that the solid solution strengthening in these two regions is ***,secondary Al_(3)sc precipitates contribute to~260 MPa strength in the FG,compared to 310 MPa in the CG due to their different number *** addition,grain boundary strengthening can reach 230 MPa in the FG region;nearly double the CG region value.

Multifunctional zinc ion doped sol-gel derived mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles for biomedical applications

Mesoporous bioactive glasses have been widely investigated for applications in bone tissue regeneration and,more recently,in soft tissue repair and wound *** this study we produced mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles(MBGNs)based on the siO2-CaO *** the intention of adding subsidiary biological function,MBGNs were doped with Zn2+***-MBGNs with 8 mol%ZnO content were synthesized via microemulsion assisted sol-gel *** synthesized particles were homogeneous in shape and *** exhibited spherical shape,good dispersity,and a size of 130±10 *** addition of zinc precursors did not affect the morphology of particles,while their specific surface area increased in comparison to *** presence of Zn2+ions inhibited the formation of hydroxycarbonate apatite(HCAp)on the particles after immersion in simulated body fluid(sBF).No formation of HCAp crystals on the surface of Zn-MBGNs could be observed after 14 days of ***,powders containing relatively high amount of zinc released Zn2+ions in low concentration(0.6-1.2 mg L^−1)but in a sustained *** releasing feature enables Zn-MBGNs to avoid potentially toxic levels of Zn2+ions,indeed Zn-MBGNs were seen to improve the differentiation of osteoblast-like cells(MG-63).Additionally,Zn-MBGNs showed higher ability to adsorb proteins in comparison to MBGNs,which could indicate a favourable later attachment of *** to their advantageous morphological and physiochemical properties,Zn-MBGNs show great potential as bioactive fillers or drug delivery systems in a variety of applications including bone regeneration and wound healing.

Nutrient Requirements and Fermentation Conditions for Mycelia and Crude Exo-Polysaccharides Production by <i>Lentinus squarrosulus</i>

Lentinus squarrosulus Mont. is an emerging tropical white rot basidiomycete, with nutritional and medicinal benefits. Low levels of commercial cultivation of the mushrooms limit their availability for use as food and medicine. Mycelia from submerged fermentation are a suitable alternative to the mushroom from L. squarrosulus. Three strains, 340, 339 and 218, were studied to determine optimum growth conditions for mycelia mass and crude exo-polysaccharides (CEPs) production. The experiments were conducted in a completely randomized design (CRD) with a factorial structure. Nutrients involving 8 carbon and 8 nitrogen sources were screened, and concentrations of the best sources were optimized. Optimized nutrients, interaction between strains and other parameters such as agitation and medium volume were investigated to obtain optimum fermentation conditions for biomass and CEPs production. Biomass yield varied among strains depending on carbon or nitrogen nutrient sources. starch and yeast extract at 30 and 25 g/L were identified as the most important nutrients in mycelia and CEPs production. Nutrient optimization resulted in a 3-fold increase in mycelia mass: 12.8, 10.0 and 15.3 g/L in strains 340, 339 and 218 respectively. There was a significant interaction between strain, agitation, and volume (p p = 0.02). static conditions favored more polysaccharide production. Optimized fermentation conditions resulted in very high increase in biomass: 238.1, 266.9 and 185.0 g/L in strains 340, 339 and 218 respectively. Results obtained could be useful in modeling fermentation systems for large-scale production of mycelia mass, CEPs and other bio-products from L. squarrosulus.

New monotypic genera Rakta gen. nov., based on type species R. sinuata sp. nov., and Albodikra gen. nov., based on type species A. bifida sp. nov., are described, illustrated, and placed in the typhlocybine microleafhopper tribe Dikraneurini despite having hind wing venation similar to that found in Empoascini. Morphological characters justifying the tribal placement are discussed.

The cryogenic ground support equipment (CGsE) is an important part of Alpha Magnetic spectrometer-02 (AMs-02) experiment which is a particle physics experiment. CGsE is used to cool down the superconducting magnet of AMs-02 to its operating temperature of 1.8K and to fill the magnet helium tank with superfluid helium. This paper introduces the control system of CGsE and presents the performance of the system.

Objective: Prostate secretory protein of 94 amino acids(PsP94) is a target gene of the EZH2 transcriptional repressor and is often downregulated in prostate cancer;however, its prognostic value is ***: Immunohistochemical analysis of a tissue microarray of 12, 432 prostate cancer specimens was performed to evaluate PsP94 expression. Correlation of PsP94 expression with tumor phenotype, patient prognosis, TMPRss2:ERG fusion status, EZH2 expression and PTEN deletion was ***: PsP94 expression was increased in benign prostatic hyperplasia;however, it was downregulated in 48% and negative in42% of the 9, 881 interpretable prostate cancer specimens. The loss of PsP94 expression was inversely correlated to EZH2 expression(P status, but strongly correlated with high Gleason grade, advanced tumor stage, and nodal metastasis(P sP94-negative cancer specimens increased from 40% in pT2 to 52%in pT3 b-pT4(P son 3+3 = 6 to 46% in Gleason 4+3 = 7 and 60% in Gleason ≥4+4 = 8(P ss of PsP94 was linked to early prostate-specific antigen recurrence, but with little absolute effect(P stic impact in cancer specimens with PTEN deletion. Loss of PsP94 deteriorated prognosis of cancer patients with PTEN deletion by more than 10%(P sP94 loss provided independent prognostic information that was observed in several subgroups defined by classical and quantitative Gleason ***: The results of our study suggest that combined PsP94/PTEN analysis can be potentially used in the clinical prognosis of prostate cancer.

Behavior of surface sediment from the JoséAntonio Alzate Dam in Mexico as a Deposit of Heavy Metals

The problem of contamination of Lerma River in the state of Mexico, México, has been studied in an integral way, since it is one of the rivers of importance due to its geographical situation in the country. José Antonio Dam is the main receiving body of this river that is being contaminated by, industrial wastewater, of which about 70% is inorganic, as well as discharges municipal and agricultural, driving a lot of material in suspension. This dam acts as a regulator of avenues and its water is used for agricultural irrigation and its sediments are used as sludge to improve agricultural soil in the surroundings. One of the studies that have been carried out is to determine the geochemical distribution of heavy metals in the sediments of this dam, as well as its adsorptive capacity towards different metals. It has been observed that these sediments acts as metal contaminants sequester. Knowing the composition and morphology of these sediments can provide information to understand the mobility of different heavy metals it contains, and potential health risk, which can finally lead to the establishment of purification capacity of this sludge.
