Objective: To investigate the antibacterial activity of SHHextracted with either water or ethanol against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA) and combinatory antimicrobial effect with ciprofloxacin(CIP) by time kill assay and checkerboard dilution test. Methods: The antibacterial activity determined by broth dilution method indicated that the antibacterial activity of Sami-Hyanglyun-Hwan(SHH) water extract(SHHW) and SHH ethanol extract(SHHE) ranged from 250 to 2000 μg/m L and 125 to 1000 μg/m L against MRSA, respectively. Results: In the checkerboard method, the combinations of SHHE with CIP had a partial synergistic or synergistic effect against MRSA. The time-kill curves showed that a combined SHHE and CIP treatment reduced the bacterial counts dramatically after 24 h. Conclusions: The present study demonstrates the therapeutic ability of SHHE against MRSA infections.

Social concerns regarding the safety of high-level radioactive waste have increased with growing public awareness of environmental issues and nuclear *** performance assessment of deep geological disposal systems is crucial to reduce the uncertainties associated with high-level radioactive waste disposal and enhance the overall public confidence in nuclear ***,the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute(KAERI)has undertaken various studies on the development of a deep geological disposal system for high-level waste and disposal safety *** KAERI Underground Research Tunnel(KURT),South Korea's only underground research laboratory dedicated to radioactive waste disposal,was constructed in 2006 and expanded in *** its construction,numerous in-situ experiments have been conducted and are currently underway in the *** KURT plays a significant role in assessing the feasibility,safety,stability and appropriateness of a deep geological disposal system in South Korea and also provides an opportunity to revitalize industrial-academic-scientific cooperation between related *** report summarizes two key in-situ experiments and international joint research conducted between 2007 and 2017 to assess the performance of the engineered and natural barriers of the *** research experiences from the in-situ tests conducted at the KURT will provide crucial information on the safety and feasibility validation of the deep geological disposal system and will be an important contributor to the success of the Korean high-level radioactive waste disposal program in the future.

AIM： To investigate the effect of Patrinia scabiosaefolia （PS） on the cholecystokinin （CCK） octapeptide-induced acute pancreatitis （AP） in rats.METHODS： Wistar rats weighing 240-260 g were divided into three groups：（1） Normal saline-treated group; （2） treatment with PS at 100 mg/kg group, in which PS was administered orally, followed by subcutaneous administration of 75μg/kg CCK octapeptide three times after 1, 3 and 5 h, and this whole procedure was repeated for 5 d; （3） treatment with saline group, in which the protocols were the same as in treatment group with PS. We determined the pancreatic weight/ body weight ratio, the levels of pancreatic HSP60, HSP72 and the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Repeated CCK octapeptide treatment resulted in the typical laboratory findings of experimentally induced pancreatitis.RESULTS： PS reduced the pancreatic weight/body weight ratio, the levels of serum amylase and lipase, and inhibited expressions of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the CCK octapeptide-induced AP. Furthermore, PS pretreatment increased the pancreatic levels of HSP60 and HSP72.CONCLUSION： Pretreatment with PS has an antiiinflammatory effect on CCK octapeptide-induced AP.

AIM: To compare the Helicobacter pylori(***) eradication rate of clarithromycin-based triple therapy,metronidazole-based triple therapy,sequential therapy and concomitant ***: A total of 680 patients infected with *** were divided into 4 groups and each group was treated with a different eradication ***-based triple therapy was applied to the first group [rabeprazole,amoxicillin and clarithromycin(PAC) group: proton pump inhibitor(PPI),amoxicillin,clarithromycin],whereas the second group was treated with metronidazole-based triple therapy [rabeprazole,amoxicillin and metronidazole(PAM) group: PPI,amoxicillin,metronidazole].The third group was treated with rabeprazole and amoxicillin,followed by rabeprazole,clarithromycin and metronidazole(sequential group).The final group was simultaneously treated with rabeprazole,amoxicillin clarithromycin and metronidazole(concomitant therapy group).In the case of a failure to eradicate ***,second-line quadruple and third-line eradication therapies were ***: The per protocol(PP) analysis was performed on 143,139,141 and 143 patients in the PAC,PAM,sequential and concomitant groups,*** excluded patients who did not receive a C13-urea breath test(22,20,23 and 22 patients,respectively) and patients with less than an 80% compliance level(5,11,6 and 5 patients,respectively).The eradication rates were 76.2%(109/143) in the PAC group,84.2%(117/139) in the PAM group,84.4%(119/141) in the sequential group and 94.4%(135/143) in the concomitant group(P = 0.0002).All 14 patients who failed second-line therapy were treated with thirdline eradication *** these 14 patients,6 infections were successfully eradicated with the thirdline *** PP and intention-to-treat analysis showed an eradication rate of 42.9%(6/14).In the PAC group,3 of 4 patients were successfully cured(3/4,75%); 2 of 2 patients in the PAM group(2/2,100%) and 1 of 5 patients in the seque
