Fabrication of extreme wettability surface for controllable droplet manipulation over a wide temperature range

Droplet controllable manipulation over a wide temperature range has promising applications in microelectronic heat dissipation, inkjet printing, and high temperature microfluidic system. However, the fabrication of a platform for controllable droplet manipulation using the methods commonly used in industry remains a tremendously challenge. The popular method of controlling droplets is highly dependent on external energy input and has relatively poor controllability in terms of droplet motion behaviors and manipulation environment, such as distance, velocity, direction and a wide temperature range. Here, we report a facile and industrially applicable method for preparing Al superhydrophobic (S-phobic) surfaces, which enables controlled droplet bouncing, evaporation, and transport over a wide temperature range. Systematic mechanistic studies are also investigated. Extreme wettability surfaces were prepared on Al substrate by a composite process of electrochemical mask etching and micro-milling. To investigate the evaporation process and thermal coupling characteristics, controlled evaporation and controlled bouncing of droplet in a wide temperature range were conducted. Based on the evaporation regulation and bouncing mechanism of droplets on an extreme wettability surface, by using Laplace pressure gradients and temperature gradients, we realized controlled transport of droplets with confluence, split-flow, and gravity-resistant transport over a wide temperature range, offering a potential platform for a series of applications, such as new drug candidates and water collection.

This paper proposes a down-stroke abrasive belt grinding under micro feeding for noise reduction ***,a physical model of processing under micro feeding for noise reduction structure was *** on the flexible contact characteristics of abrasive belt grinding and Hertz contact theory,a mathematical model suitable for this method was established,considering vibration and abrasive belt ***,a simulation analysis was carried ***,an experimental platform was built to analyze the influence of process parameters on surface roughness and surface microstructure,with the model ***,the propeller with pit structure was simulated,and the noise reduction performance of the propeller under this method and general abrasive belt grinding was compared and *** results show that the maximum error of the model based on proposed method does not exceed 10%,and the coincidence degree of the minimum error point can reach 90%at lower feed speed and higher linear velocity of the abrasive *** noise reduction effect of the propeller with pit-shaped surfaces can reach 35%.Through the above analysis,the proposed method can be used for the processing of noise reduction surfaces.

Hybrid Method to Identify Second-trip Echoes Using Phase Modulation and Polarimetric Technology

For pulse Doppler radars,the widely used method for identifying second-trip echoes(STs)in the signal processing level yields significant misidentification in regions of high turbulence and severe wind *** the data processing level,although the novel algorithm for ST identification does not yield significant misidentification in specific regions,its overall identification performance is not ***,this paper proposes a hybrid method for the identification of STs using phase modulation(signal processing)and polarimetric technology(data processing).Through this approach,most of the STs are removed,whereas most of the first-trip echoes(FTs)remain *** with the existing method using a signal quality index filter with an optimized threshold,the hybrid method exhibits superior performance(Heidke skill scores of 0.98 versus 0.88)on independent test datasets,especially in high-turbulence and severe-wind-shear regions,for which misidentification is significantly reduced.

Membrane bioreactors(MBRs)have been and will continue playing an important role in industrial wastewater treatment and reuse in *** sustainable development of MBR technology in its mature-application stage requires reciprocal interactions between engineering and research ***,in this study,a total of 182 large-scale MBR projects treating industrial wastewater(with individual treatment capacities5000 m3d1)commissioned and under construction from 2003 to 2019 were analyzed *** growth of the cumulative treatment capacity was observed,with extension to diverse industries,and the super large-scale was enhanced *** treatment processes,pollutant removal efficiencies,and actual operational parameters were summarized regarding the particularity of industrial wastewater compared to municipal *** features including the total investment costs of the projects,their total footprint,and their operational energy consumption were analyzed as well.A vigorous MBR market has formed in China with the fast development of membrane elements and engineering suppliers,continuously increasing official oriented projects,and responsive and innovative business *** technology has been mostly applied in specific economic zones and water-deficient areas,but its widespread use all over China is foreseeable considering the vast future market for industrial wastewater treatment and *** policy–economy and market–technology driving forces revealed that MBR is consistent with the national development *** to the survey and analysis,prospective development in both engineering and research aspects of MBR is proposed to maintain its competitive edge.

Analysis of CO_2 utilization into synthesis gas based on solar thermochemical CH_4-reforming

In this study, the solar thermochemical reactor performance for CO_2 utilization into synthesis gas(H_2+ CO) based on CH_4 reforming process was investigated in the context of carbon capture and utilization(CCU) technologies. The P1 radiation heat transfer model is adopted to establish the heat and mass transfer model coupled with thermochemical reaction kinetics. The reactor thermal behavior with direct heat transfer between gaseous reactant and products evolution and the effects of different structural parameters were evaluated. It was found that the reactor has the potential to utilize by ～60% of CO_2 captured with 40% of CH_4 co-fed into syngas(72.9% of H_2 and 27.1% of CO) at 741.31 k W/mof incident radiation heat flux. However, the solar irradiance heat flux and temperature distribution were found to significantly affect the reactant species conversion efficiency and syngas production. The chemical reaction is mainly driven by the thermal energy and higher species conversion into syngas was observed when the temperature distribution at the inner cavity of the reactor was more uniform. Designed a solar thermochemical reactor able to volumetric store concentrated irradiance could highly improve CCU technologies for producing energy-rich chemicals. Besides, the mixture gas inlet velocity, operating pressure and CO_2/CH_4 feeding ratio were crucial to determining the efficiency of CO_2 utilization to solar fuels. Catalytic CO_2-reforming of CH_4 to chemical energy is a promising strategy for an efficient utilization of CO_2 as a renewable carbon source.

In order to guarantee safety and stability during physical human-robot-interaction(p HRI) in the occasion of service or industrial operation, a serial integrated rotary joint with the characteristics of passive and active compliance is proposed. Passive compliance is achieved by a designed elastic element, such that the compliant joint may minimize large force which occurs during accidental impacts and, further, may offer more accurate and stable force control and a capacity for energy storage. Meanwhile, the modeling of the compliant joint is comprehensively analyzed, including the effect of the motor model on the overall control system. In order to realize the active compliance, a new method of impedance control is proposed. On the basis of PD control, a more compliant impedance controller is introduced. Experimental results show that the serial integrated rotary joint can provide more effective safety compliance during physical interaction, which has also been well applied in our designed massage robot and rehabilitation robot.
