As the condensed matter analog of Majorana fermion, the Majorana zero-mode is well known as a building block of fault-tolerant topological quantum computing. This review focuses on the recent progress of Majorana experiments, especially experiments about semiconductor-superconductor hybrid devices. We first sketch Majorana zero-mode formation from a bottom-up view,which is more suitable for beginners and experimentalists. Then, we survey the status of zero-energy state signatures reported recently, from zero-energy conductance peaks, the oscillations, the quantization, and the interactions with extra degrees of freedom. We also give prospects of future experiments for advancing one-dimensional semiconductor nanowire-superconductor hybrid materials and devices.

Recently, a mechanism of hydrothermal sedimentation about a mantel-derived source was proposed to interpret the formation of lacustrine dolostone in the Cretaceous Xiagou Formation based on systematic petrological, mineralogical, and geochemical analyses （Wen et al., 2013）. Similar to the texture found in classic hydrothermal sediments （Zhang, 1988）, the breccia texture is characterized by certain hydro- thermal sedimentation features. With detailed analysis of the data and relevant explanations, however, we found that their data are not sufficient to support the mantle-derived hydrothermal genetic theory because the formation of ex- tensive laminated micritic ferruginous dolostone is not yet fully understood. We will review the model proposed by Wen et al. （2013） focusing on the following issues.

Thermal-mechanical processing of magnesium-based materials is an effective method to tailor the hydrogen storage *** this study,Mg-Ni-Gd-Y-Zn-Cu alloys were prepared by Direct Chill(DC)casting,with and without extrusion *** influences of microstructure evolution,introduced by DC casting and thermal-mechanical processing,on the hydrogen storage performance of Mg-Ni-Gd-Y-ZnCu alloys were comprehensively explored,using analytical electron microscopy and in-situ synchrotron powder X-ray *** result shows that the extruded alloy yields higher hydrogen absorption capacity and faster hydrogen ab/desorption *** subjected to extrusion processing,theα-Mg grains in the microstructure were significantly refined and a large number of 14H type long-period stacking ordered(LPSO)phases appeared on theα-Mg *** activation,there were more nanosized Gd hydride/Mg2Ni intermetallics and finer *** modifications synergistically enhance the hydrogen storage *** findings have implications for the alloy design and manufacturing of magnesiumbased hydrogen storage materials with the advantages of rapid mass production and anti-oxidation.

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)is a progressed stage of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease,and available therapeutic strategies for NASH are *** D receptor(VDR)is proposed as a druggable target for NASH due to the discovery of vitamin D deficiency in NASH *** date,vitamin D supplementation has not consistently conferred expected therapeutic benefits,raising the question of whether VDR can serve as a proper drug target for *** is known that VDR can interact with other ligands such as bile acids in addition to vitamin D,and its expression can be induced by fatty acids,and *** has also been shown that while activation of VDR in hepatic macrophages and hepatic stellate cells resulted in attenuation of hepatic inflammation and fibrosis,activation of VDR in hepatocytes could accelerate lipid ***,the multiplicity of VDR ligands,together with the cell type-specificity of VDR activation,must be taken into consideration in assessing the validity of VDR being a potential druggable target for NASH *** this end,we have evaluated the relationship between VDR activation and various contributing factors,such as gut microbiota,bile acid,fatty acids,and insulin,in addition to vitamin D,with an expectation that a potential drug might be identified that can elicit VDR activation in a tissue-and/or cell type-specific manner and therefore achieving therapeutic benefits in NASH.

An innovative process of clad teeming was proposed to prepare slab ingot,which featured a built-in cold core to inhibit solidification defects.A 20-kg clad ingot was prepared in the experiment,using a volume ratio of solid core to molten steel of 1:13 and a preheating temperature of cold core of 573 *** microstructures of the clad ingot were analyzed by comparing with a reference ingot without cold *** morphologies and mechanical properties of the clad ingot were studied before and after hot *** effect of cold core on heat transfer and nucleation during the solidification in clad ingot was *** show that the solidification microstructures in the clad ingot are refined and homogenized *** grain size in the center of the reference ingot is 2–3 times greater than that of clad ingot,and there is almost no columnar grain in the clad *** interfacial shear strength reaches 318 MPa,which shows excellent metallurgical bonding at the interface of cold core and molten *** defects at the interface are eliminated,and interfacial shear strength reaches 426 MPa after hot rolling with a 68.4%total reduction *** experiment and analysis of this process are expected to provide a new idea to prepare large ingots with refinement and homogeneity at a low cost.

Sedimentary-tectonic interaction on the growth sequence architecture within the intraslope basins of deep-water Niger Delta Basin

This paper presents a 3D seismic-based case study from the deep-water Niger Delta Basin to investigate sedimentary-tectonic interaction on growth sequence architecture within the thrust-related intraslope or piggyback basins. Gravitational contraction in the lower continental slope had yielded a series of thrust faults and associated folds in the study area, which formed several piggyback basins. These basins were filled by a suite of growth sequences with varying stratigraphic architecture. Analysis of the 3D seismic data recognized three primary seismic facies types respectively as: convergent, draping and chaotic, which contain seven subtypes. These facies types are combined to form different filling successions for convergent or chaotic growth sequences. The convergent growth sequences mainly occur in the deep section of basin fills during strong gravitational deformation, and always began with convergent-baselapping strata succeeded by convergent-thinning strata, representing pond-to-bypass transition in the ponded-basin accommodation space. The chaotic growth sequences mainly occur in the shallow section of basin fills in response to weak gravitational deformation, and usually began with debris-flow deposits succeeded by channel-levee complexes, reflecting dominant erosion-bypass processes in the slope accommodation space. A dynamic fill-andspill model considering relationship between episodic sedimentation rate and structural growth rate is proposed to explain the formative mechanisms of growth strata units and associated successions. Interaction between glaciation or deglaciation and sea-level change and gravitational deformation history are suggested to be the factor which resulted in the complex stratal stacking patterns, including progradational or retrogradational stacking patterns within convergent growth sequences, and progradational stacking patterns within chaotic growth sequences.
