Impact of Fusobacterium nucleatum in the gastrointestinal tract on natural killer cells

BACKGROUND Gut microbial dysbiosis contributes to the development and progression of colorectal cancer(CRC).Natural killer(NK)cells are involved in early defense mechanisms to kill infective pathogens and tumor cells by releasing chemokines and *** better understand the relationship between the gut microbiome and CRC,it was hypothesized here that a high abundance of Fusobacterium nucleatum(***)in the gastrointestinal tract could cause reduced NK cell *** To identify associations between gastrointestinal tract *** levels and NK cell *** In vitro experiments were performed on NK cells treated with ***,Peptostreptococcus anaerobius,and Parvimonas micra to identify the effects of gut microbiome species on NK *** 24 and 48 h of treatment,NK cell counts were *** parallel studies,C57BL/6 mice were given broadspectrum antibiotics in their drinking water to reduce resident gut *** 3 wk,the mice received the various bacterial species or phosphate-buffered saline(PBS)via oral gavage every 2 d for 6 *** the study end,blood samples were acquired to perform NK cell activity assessment and cytokine *** tissues were collected and analyzed via immunohistochemistry(IHC).RESULTS The data show that after 3 wk of broad-spectrum antibiotic treatment,levels of total bacteria and *** were markedly decreased in *** of *** significantly decreased NK cell activity relative to the activities of cells from mice treated with antibiotics only and *** administration of *** decreased the proportion of NK46+cells based on IHC staining and increased the production of interleukin-1βand tumor necrosis factor-α.CONCLUSION High levels of *** in the gastrointestinal tract reduced NK cell activity in mice,and the decrease in NK cell activity might be affected by increased proinflammatory cytokines after *** treatment.

High efficiency CZTSSe solar cells enabled by dual Ag-passivation approach via aqueous solution process

Ag substitution in Cu_(2)ZnSn(S,Se)_(4)(CZTSSe)is a promising way to mitigate Cu/Zn related defects,electrostatic fluctuations and Shockley-Read-Hall(SRH)recombination ***,high performance ACZTSSe solar cells are generally demonstrated with more Ag amounts and strenuous fabrication processes,which are not ideal when using cheap constituent materials *** reduce the Ag amount(2%-3%),local Ag substitutions into CZTSSe at front(F),back(B)and dual front/back(FB)were *** results revealed that F-passivation effectively reduced the Cu/Zn related defects and further limits the interface/bulk recombination whereas B-passivation improved the grain growth at the back interface and further allows enhanced transport of charge *** employing the dual Agpassivation approach,the final ACZTSSe device parameters were significantly improved and remarkable power conversion efficiency(PCE)of 12.43%was achieved with eco-friendly aqueous solution process.

Precore/core region mutations of hepatitis B virus related to clinical severity

Despite the availability of an effective vaccine, hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection remains a major health problem, with more than 350 million chronically infected people worldwide and over 1 million annual deaths due to cirrhosis and liver cancer. HBV mutations are primarily generated due both to a lack of proofreading capacity by HBV polymerase and to host immune pressure, which is a very important factor for predicting disease progression and therapeutic outcomes. Several types of HBV precore/core (preC/C) mutations have been described to date. The host immune response against T cells drives mutation in the preC/C region. Specifically, preC/C mutations in the MHC class II restricted region are more common than in other regions and are significantly related to hepatocellular carcinoma. Certain mutations, including preC G1896A, are also significantly related to HBeAg-negative chronic infection. This review article mainly focuses on the HBV preC/C mutations that are related to disease severity and on the HBeAg serostatus of chronically infected patients.

Trends in the incidence of cryptorchidism and hypospadias of registry-based data in Korea： a comparison between industrialized areas of petrochemical estates and a non-industrialized area

This study aimed to represent the recent trends in the nationwide incidence of cryptorchidism and hypospadias in Korea, and to determine whether there is evidence of spatial heterogeneity in the incidence. The incidence was calculated as the number of newly diagnosed patients （males） during the first 4 years after a live birth in a population, nationally and regionally （a non-industrialized area （Chuncheon） and petrochemical estates （Yeocheon and Ulsan））, between 2000 and 2005. The data （numerator） for new patients were acquired from the National Health Insurance Review Agency, and the data （denominator） for the resident registration population were from the National Statistical Office. Between 2000 and 2005, the national incidence of cryptorchidism and hypospadias had an increased tendency from 5.01 to 17.43 per 10 000 persons and from 1.40 to 3.28 per 10 000 persons, respectively. The incidence of cryptorchidism was significantly higher in Yeocheon （throughout the study period） and in Ulsan （2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005） than the national incidence, whereas the incidence in Chuncheon was significantly lower in 2001 and 2002. It was difficult to compare the rates of hypospadias yearly and regionally because of the small number of cases. In conclusion, the incidence of cryptorchidism has recently increased in Korea. The petrochemical estates, Yeocheon and Ulsan, had a significantly higher incidence of cyptorchidism than the national incidence, which suggests that further study is needed to obtain a more precise estimation of the trends in the incidence of the anomalies and to confirm the association between petrochemicals and the anomalies.

RabGTPase is a member of the Ras superfamily of small GTPases, which share a GTP-binding pocket containing highly conserved motifs that promote GTP hydrolysis. In Arabidopsis, the RabA group, which corresponds to the Rabgroup in animals, functions in the recycling of endosomes that control docking and fusion during vesicle transport. However, their molecular mechanisms remain unknown. In this study, we determined the crystal structures of the GDP-bound inactive form and both GppNHp-and GTP-bound active forms of RabA1a, at resolutions of 2.8, 2.6, and 2.6 A?,respectively. A bound sulfate ion in the active site of the GDP-bound structure stabilized Switch Ⅱ by bridging the interaction between a magnesium ion and *** of the two states of RabA1a with Rabproteins revealed clear differences in the Switch Ⅰ and Ⅱ loops. These results suggested that conformational change of the Switch regions of RabA1a, derived by GTP or GDP binding, could maintain subcellular membrane traffic through the specific interaction of effector molecules.

Verification and Correction of Cloud Base and Top Height Retrievals from Ka–band Cloud Radar in Boseong,Korea

In this study,cloud base height（CBH） and cloud top height（CTH） observed by the Ka-band（33.44 GHz） cloud radar at the Boseong National Center for Intensive Observation of Severe Weather during fall 2013（September-November） were verified and *** comparative verification,CBH and CTH were obtained using a ceilometer（CL51） and the Communication,Ocean and Meteorological Satellite（COMS）.During rainfall,the CBH and CTH observed by the cloud radar were lower than observed by the ceilometer and COMS because of signal attenuation due to raindrops,and this difference increased with rainfall *** dry periods,however,the CBH and CTH observed by the cloud radar,ceilometer,and COMS were *** and low-density clouds were observed more effectively by the cloud radar compared with the ceilometer and *** cases of rainfall or missing cloud radar data,the ceilometer and COMS data were proven effective in correcting or compensating the cloud radar *** corrected cloud data were used to classify cloud types,which revealed that low clouds occurred most frequently.

Mechanical strength and corrosion resistance of Al-additive friction stir welded AZ31B joints

Compared to other structural alloys,magnesium alloys have a relatively poor corrosion resistance and low mechanical strength,which can be further deteriorated when these alloys are subjected to joining processes using the existing joining ***,we propose for the first time an additive friction stir-welding(AFSW)using fine Al powder as an additive to improve the mechanical strength as well as corrosion resistance of AZ31B weld *** is a solid-state welding method of forming a high-Al AZ31B joint via an in-situ reaction between pure Al powders filled in a machined groove and the AZ31B *** optimize the process parameters,AFSW was performed under different rotational and transverse speeds,and number of passes,using tools with a square or screw *** particular,to fabricate a weld zone,where the Al was homogenously dispersed,the effects of the groove shape were investigated using three types of grooves:surface one-line groove,surface-symmetric grooves,and inserted symmetric *** homogenous and defect-less AFS-welded AZ31B joint was successfully fabricated with the following optimal parameters:1400 rpm,25 mm/min,four passes,inserted symmetric grooves,and the tool with a square *** AFSW fully dissolved the additive Al intoα-Mg and in-situ precipitated Mg_(17)Al_(12)particles,which was confirmed via scanning electron microscopy,transmission electron microscope,and X-ray diffraction *** microhardness,joint efficiency,and elongation at the fracture point of the AFS-welded AZ31B joint were 80 HV,101%,and 8.9%,*** values are higher than those obtained for the FS-welded AZ31 joint in previous *** corrosion resistance of the AFS-welded AZ31B joint,evaluated via hydrogen evolution measurements and potentiodynamic polarization tests,was enhanced to 55%relative to the FS-welded AZ31B joint.

BACKGROUND Compared to earlier,there has been an increase in the tattoo procedures for cosmetic purposes;and there has also been an increase in the tattoo procedures performed by non-medical *** South Korea,only tattoos performed by a doctor are considered legal;however,there is still some debate over whether tattoo procedures performed by non-healthcare providers should be considered *** SUMMARY A 28-year-old woman visited our hospital with pain in both nipples and heat sensation over the last 4 *** had a history of a nipple tattoo performed by an unlicensed *** bleeding was noted in both areolar areas,and the exudate mixed with pus and orange color ink was *** medication and tulle with foam dressing were performed under the impression of cellulitis and allergic *** 4 wk,nipples remained dark brown in color,resulting in a color mismatch between the nipple and orange-colored *** size of the areola was also found to be distinctly asymmetrical after *** complication may have been caused by the use of illegal ink or unsanitary procedures,or a problem may have occurred in the post-tattoo management *** Doctors use approved ink,aseptic procedure and appropriate postoperative care,and appropriate management can be performed in case of complications.
