Variables of Suicidal Behavior in Tenerife Years 2011-2012: Proposals for the Prevention

Suicide is treated by society as a taboo subject despite it being the leading cause of unnatural death in Spain. The Tenerife Province is ranked 16th among the 52 Spanish provinces for its suicide rate. From 2007 till 2010, the rate increased from 2007 to 2008, then dropped in 2010. Slight rise occurred in suicide rates in 2010. This rate increased from 2007 to 2008, with a decrease of rate in 2010. Slight rise occurred in suicide rates in 2010. In 2013 the province saw 75 suicides per year. 90% - 98% of suicides are closely related to mental disease with the remaining 10% associated with different poor causes of the subject, according to bibliography. In this retrospective study, it has been found that the highest risk rests with men over 40 years of age in the central and southern part of the island. Among the forms of suicide reported, the most common is hanging followed by jumping from a height. It’s important to understand the reasons behind suicidal behavior from a psychosocial perspective, taking into account “unsafe” indicators and individual profiles. The lethal nature of a suicide attempt also depends on the form of suicide adopted and the possibility of a rescue. Specific protocols to prevent suicide should be promoted and discussed between health and social services.

Saffron(Crocus sativus L.)has been traditionally used in food preparation and as a medicinal *** currently has numerous therapeutic properties attributed to it,such as protection against ischemia,as well as anticonvulsant,antidepressant,anxiolytic,hypolipidemic,anti-atherogenic,anti-hypertensive,antidiabetic,and anti-cancer *** addition,saffron has remarkable beneficial properties,such as anti-apoptotic,anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities,due to its main metabolites,among which crocin and crocetin stand ***,increasing evidence underwrites the possible neuroprotective role of the main bioactive saffron constituents in neurodegenerative diseases,such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases,both in experimental models and in clinical studies in ***,saffron supplementation is being tested for ocular neurodegenerative pathologies,such as diabetic retinopathy,retinitis pigmentosa,age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma,among others,and shows beneficial *** present article provides a comprehensive and up to date report of the investigations on the beneficial effects of saffron extracts on the main neurodegenerative ocular pathologies and other ocular *** review showed that saffron extracts could be considered promising therapeutic agents to help in the treatment of ocular neurodegenerative diseases.

Olive fruits infested with olive fly larvae respond with an ethylene burst and the emission of specific volatiles

Olive fly（Bactrocera oleae R.） is the most harmful insect pest of olive（Olea europaea L.） which strongly affects fruits and oil production. despite the expanding economic importance of olive cultivation, up to now, only limited information on plant responses to B. oleae is available. Here,we demonstrate that olive fruits respond to B. oleae attack by producing changes in an array of different defensive compounds including phytohormones, volatile organic compounds（VOCs）, and.defense proteins. Bactrocera oleaeinfested fruits induced a strong ethylene burst and transcript levels of several putative ethylene-responsive transcription factors became significantly upregulated. Moreover, infested fruits induced significant changes in the levels of 12-oxophytodienoic acid and C12 derivatives of the hydroperoxide lyase. The emission of VOCs was also changed quantitatively and qualitatively in insect-damaged fruits, indicating that *** larval feeding can specifically affect the volatile blend offruits. Finally, we show that larval infestation maintained high levels of trypsin protease inhibitors in ripe fruits, probably by affecting post-transcriptional mechanisms. Our results provide novel and important information to understand the response of the olive fruit to B. oleae attack; information that can shed light onto potential new strategies to combat this pest.

PillCam~ SB3 capsule: does the increased frame rate eliminate the risk of missing lesions?

Since its emergence in 2000, small bowel capsule endoscopy(SBCE) has assumed a pivotal role as an investigation method for small bowel diseases. The PillCam SB2-ex offers 12 h of battery time, 4 more than the previous version(SB2). Rahman et al recently found that the PillCam SB2-ex has a significantly increased completion rate, although without higher diagnostic yield, compared with the SB2. We would like to discuss these somewhat surprising results and the new potentialities of the PillCam SB3 regarding the diagnostic yield of small bowel studies. PillCam SB3 offers improved image resolution and faster adaptable frame rate over previous versions of SBCE. We recently compared the major duodenal papilla detection rate obtained with PillCam SB3 and SB2 as a surrogate indicator of diagnostic yield in the proximal small bowel. The PillCam SB3 had a significantly higher major duodenal papilla detection rate than the PillCam SB2(42.7% vs 24%, P = 0.015). Thus, the most recent version of the PillCam capsule, SB3, may increase diagnostic yield, particularly in the proximal segments of the small bowel.

为了解液氧/甲烷火焰在外界扰动作用下的表现,增进对燃烧不稳定性的理解,分别对两种喷剪切同轴式喷嘴结构进行了试验,试验采用单喷嘴矩形模型燃烧室,液氧以液态从中心喷嘴喷注,甲烷以气态从同轴的环形腔喷注。试验中,压力调节装置上的齿轮间断性地堵住和打开安装在燃烧室底部和主喷管旁边的辅助喷管出口,分别向燃烧室输入高频扰动。采用高速照相机记录火焰的OH辐射量,并采用阴影和纹影技术记录液氧的喷雾过程。试验成功激发起了燃烧室一阶横向和一阶纵向振型,在高频扰动作用下,还产生了两次强低频振荡。讨论了分离火焰的特征及其液氧射流在外界扰动作用下的表现和影响参数。

The aim of this work is to integrate the Educative intervention to Scientific research in support of the biological, psychological, social and economic discomfort of the Person affected by cognitive deficit. The specific objective is to stimulate the retained cognitive, emotive and motor abilities, educating to the theatricality through the establishment of a theatrical laboratory. Our experience was conducted with a group of elderly people affected by neuro-geriatric pathologies with medium-high cognitive decay. The encounters took place in the home of one of the members of the group. Fundamental was the actualisation of the process of individual and collective empowerment. They started with social activities and viewings of film scenes with Charlie Chaplin, actor to be observed, picked by the activities＇ participants. Finally, there was a re-enacting of a ＂wordless＂ scene through the reading of simple sentences to express in sign language. The parameters taken into consideration during the qualitative analysis are： attention, learning, expressivity and motor capabilities, measured at every encounter through a Likert scale of evaluation created ad hoc, directly proportional to the level of adequacy of the single ability. In conclusion, the maximum of scored points manifested itself in the attention and expressivity items.

Replication of interleukin 23 receptor and autophagy-related 16-like 1 association in adult-and pediatric-onset inflammatory bowel disease in Italy

AIM: To investigate gene variants in a large Italian inflammatory bowel disease (IBd) cohort, and to analyze the correlation of sub-phenotypes (including age at diagnosis) and epistatic interaction with other IBd genes. METHOdS: Total of 763 patients with Crohn's disease (Cd, 189 diagnosed at age diagnosed d 546 healthy parents (273 trios) were included in the study. The rs2241880 [autophagy-related 16-like 1 (ATG16L1)], rs11209026 and rs7517847 [interleukin 23 receptor (IL23R)], rs2066844, rs2066845, rs2066847 (CARd15), rs1050152 (OCTN1), and rs2631367 (OCTN2) gene variants were genotyped. RESULTS: The frequency of G allele of ATG16L1 SNP (Ala197Thr) was increased in patients with Cd compared with controls (59% vs 54% respectively) (OR = 1.25, CI = 1.08-1.45, P = 0.003), but not in UC (55%). The frequency of A and G (minor) alleles of Arg381Gln, rs11209026 and rs7517847 variants of IL23R were reduced significantly in Cd (4%, OR = 0.62, CI = 0.45-0.87, P = 0.005; 28%, OR = 0.64, CI = 0.55-0.75, P d with controls (6% and 38%, respectively). The A allele (but not G) was also reduced signifi cantly in UC (4%, OR = 0.69, CI = 0.5-0.94, P = 0.019). No association was demonstrated with sub-phenotypes and interaction with CARd15 , and OCTN1/2 genes, although both gene variants were associated with pediatric-onset disease. CONCLUSION: The present study confirms the association of IL23R polymorphisms with IBd, and ATG16L1 with Cd, in both adult- and pediatric-onset subsets in our study population.

diffusion-weighted imaging and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery sequence in sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease:One-case report

The diagnosis of sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease （sCJd） is extremely difficult. diffusion-weighted imaging has been shown to be the most sensitive technique for the detection of signal alterations in sCJd patients. The present study analyzed the diagnostic value of diffusion-weighted imaging and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery sequence in the early stage of sCJd in one female patient and correlated the clinical symptoms during disease course and magnetic resonance manifestations. Thalamic and basal ganglia hyperintensities were observed on magnetic resonance images in a very early stage, i.e., when the clinical typical manifestations of the disease were not present. With the progression of the disease, cortical and basal ganglia hyperintensities were observed on magnetic resonance images, showing an obvious cerebral atrophy. These findings suggest that diffusion-weighted imaging and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery sequence are helpful in diagnosing sCJd.
