In digital soil mapping(dSM),a fundamental assumption is that the spatial variability of the target variable can be explained by the predictors or environmental *** to adequately sample the predictors have been well documented.w.th the conditioned Latin hypercube sampling(cLHS)algorithm receiving the most attention in the dSM *** advances in sampling design,a critical gap remains in determining the number of samples required for dSM *** propose a simple workflow and function coded in R language to determine the minimum sample size for the cLHS algorithm based on histograms of the predictor variables using the Freedman-diaconis rule for determining optimal bin *** preprocessing was included to correct for multimodal and non-normally distributed data,as these can affect sample size determination from the *** on a user-selected quantile range(QR)for the sample plan,the densities of the histogram bins at the upper and lower bounds of the QR were used as a scaling factor to determine minimum sample *** technique was applied to a field-scale set of environmental covariates for a well-sampled agricultural study site near Guelph,Ontario,Canada,and tested across a range of *** results showed increasing minimum sample size with an increase in the QR *** sample size increased from 44 to 83 when the QR increased from 50% to 95% and then increased exponentially to 194 for the 99%*** technique provides an estimate of minimum sample size that can be used as an input to the cLHS algorithm.

Objective: This study was conducted to determine whether there is a relationship between the concentration of fetal cell-free dNA in maternal serum and the duration of pregnancy in women who are at high risk for preterm delivery because of either preterm labor or preterm premature rupture of the membranes. Study design: Sera were collected and frozen from 71 women with a male fetus. Maternal serum fetal cell-free dNA concentration was measured.w.th the use of real-time polymerase chain reaction amplification of dYS1. Fetal cell-free dNA concentrations were converted to multiples of the median. The following groups were studied: group 1: women with preterm labor and intact membranes who were delivered at ≥ 36 weeks of gestation (n = 21); group 2: women with preterm labor who were delivered at weeks of gestation (n = 29); and group 3: women with preterm premature rupture of the membranes in labor (n = 20) or not in labor (n = 1) who were delivered prematurely ( weeks of gestation). Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analyses were used to analyze the relationship between fetal cell-free dNA concentrations and the likelihood of preterm delivery. Results: A cut-off value for fetal cell-free dNA of 1.82 multiples of the median was chosen for analysis. The cumulative rate of early preterm delivery ( weeks of gestation) was significantly higher for women with fetal cell-free dNA concentrations of ≥ 1.82 multiples of the median than those with fetal cell-free dNA concentrations below this cut-off (45% [95% CI, 36% - 74% ] vs 18% [95% CI, 11% - 25% ]; P = .008]. The cumulative rate of preterm delivery ( weeks of gestation) was also significantly higher at ≥ 1.82 multiples of the median (73% [95% CI, 52% - 93% ] vs 66% [95% CI, 54% - 79% ]; P = .02). After adjustment for covariates, Cox analysis showed that fetal cell-free dNA at ≥ 1.82 multiples of the mechanisms of disease that are associated.w.th a mean hazard rate of delivery of 1.57 (P = .005). OBJECTIVE: Clinical applications of the analysis of cellfree fetal dNA in ma te rnal plasma and serum are expanding. However, use of fetal dNA during prenatal s creening requires knowledge of variables that might affect its levels in the mat ernal circulation. we conducted this study to estimate the effect of selected de mographic factors on fetal dNA levels in the first and second trimesters of preg nancy. METHOdS: we developed a database that included fetal dNA levels and clini cal information, such as maternal age, ethnicity, weight, and smoking history. w e measured fetal dNA levels in maternal plasma and serum using real-time quanti tative polymerase chain reaction amplification of a Y chromosome specific sequen ce. The fetal dNA data from fresh first trimester plasma and previously frozen s econd trimester serum samples were analyzed separately. Fetal dNA levels were ad justed according to gestational age and storage time and then analyzed in associ ation with the demographic factors. RESULTS: In the first trimester group, no si gnificant association between maternal age, weight, ethnic background, or smokin g and plasma fetal dNA lev els was observed. In the second trimester group, a significant inverse correla tion between maternal weight and serum fetal dNA level was demonstrated (r = -0 .26, P = .007). This was especially prominent when the mothers weighed more than 170 lb (P = .001). Maternal age, ethnicity, and smoking were not significantly associated.w.th the second trimester serum fetal dNA levels. CONCLUSION: Fetal d NA levels are affected by maternal weight in the second trimester. A correction for this effect may be needed in larger-scale studies or for future clinical ap plications that measure cell-free fetal nucleic acids in maternal circulation.

Evaluating whether hybrid zones are stable or mobile can provide novelinsights for evolution and conservation biology. Butterflies exhibit high sensitivity to envi-ronmental changes and represent an important model system for the study of hybrid zoneorigins and maintenance. Here, we review the literature exploring butterfly hybrid zones,with a special focus on their spatiotemporal dynamics and the potential mechanisms thatcould lead to their movement or stability. we then compare different lines of evidenceused to investigate hybrid zone dynamics and discuss the strengths and.w.aknesses ofeach approach. Our goal with this review is to reveal general conditions associated.w.ththe stability or mobility of butterfly hybrid zones by synthesizing evidence obtained us-ing different types of data sampled across multiple regions and spatial scales. Finally, wediscuss spatiotemporal dynamics in the context of a speciation/divergence continuum, therelevance of hybrid zones for conservation biology, and recommend key topics for futureinvestigation.

The ESA and CAS SMILE mission orbit is highly elliptical and.w.ll pass through multiple radiation *** Soft X-ray Imager(SXI)instrument aboard has a radiation shutter door designed to close when the surrounding radiation flux is *** shutter door will close when passing below an altitude threshold to protect against trapped particles in the Earth’s Van Allen ***,two radiation environments can be approximated based on the shutter door position:open and *** instrument background for the CCds(Charge-Coupled devices)that form the focal plane array of the SXI were evaluated for the two *** to the correlation of the space environment with the solar cycle,the solar minima and maxima,the background.w.s also evaluated at these two *** results demonstrated that the highest instrument background.w.ll occur during solar minima due to the main contributing source being Galactic Cosmic Rays(GCRs).It was also found that the open background.w.s highest for solar minima and that the closed background.w.s highest during solar *** is due to the radiation shutter door acting as a scattering centre and the changes in the energy flux distribution of the GCRs between the two solar extremes.
