Are bowel symptoms and psychosocial features different in irritable bowel syndrome patients with abdominal discomfort compared to abdominal pain?

BACKGROUNd.the Rome IV criteria eliminated abdominal discomfort for irritable bowel syndrome(IBS), which was previously included in Rome III. There are questions as to whether IBS patients with abdominal discomfort(seen in Rome III but not Rome IV) are different from those with abdominal pain(Rome IV).AIM To compare bowel symptoms and psychosocial features in IBS patients diagnosed with Rome III criteria with abdominal discomfort, abdominal pain, and pain &*** We studied IBS patients meeting Rome III criteria. We administered.the IBS symptom questionnaire, psychological status, and IBS quality of life. Patients were classified according to the predominant abdominal symptom associated with defecation into an only pain group, only discomfort group, and pain & discomfort group. We compared bowel symptoms, extraintestinal symptoms, IBS quality of life, psychological status and healthcare-seeking behaviors, and efficacy among the three groups. Finally, we tested risk factors for symptom reporting in IBS *** Of the 367 Rome III IBS patients enrolled, 33.8%(124 cases) failed to meet Rome IV criteria for an IBS diagnosis. There were no meaningful differences between the pain group(n = 233) and.the discomfort group(n = 83) for the following:(1) Frequency of defecatory abdominal pain or discomfort;(2) Bowel habits;(3) Coexisting extragastrointestinal pain;(4) Comorbid anxiety and depression;and(5) IBS quality of life scores except more patients in the discomfort group reported mild symptom than the pain group(22.9% vs 9.0%). There is a significant tendency for patients to report their defecatory and non-defecatory abdominal symptom as pain alone, or discomfort alone, or pain & discomfort(all P dominal discomfort have similar bowel symptoms and psychosocial features to those with abdominal pain. A series of“hairy-rod”polyimides,BBPA(n),with multiple alkyl side chains was prepared from 3,3',4,4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride(BPdA)and 4,4'-biphenyldiamine substituted in the 2,2'-positions with benzoate,whichwas substituted in the 3,4,5-positions with ether side chains of varying *** number of the methylene units,n,inthese alkyl side chains were in even numbers ranging from 8 to *** techniques of one-dimensional(1d)and 2dwide angle x-ray diffraction,1d small angle X-ray scattering,differential scanning calorimetry experiments,it was found thatthis series of“hairy-rod”polyimides possess a micro-phase separation between the backbones and side *** led to theformation of ordered structures in two different length scales,of which both are hexagonal packing:one is attributed to thealkyl side chains on the sub-nanometer scale,and another is for the whole polymer chains on the nanometer ***development of the hexagonal structure on the sub-nanometer scale was critically dependent upon the lengths of the alkylside *** relaxation processes were captured by dynamic mechanical analysis,i.e.,segmental motion of thebackbones,α,the melting of the side chain crystals,β_1,which exits only for the materials with longer side chains(n=18,16);and.the subglass relaxation of side chains,β_*** peak relaxation temperature of the α process decreased withincreasing the length of side chains,while the one of the β_2 process *** activation energy of the α relaxation wasrelatively independent on the length of side chain,whereas,β_2 process showed.the increasing of activation energy withincreasing the length of side chains.

Parameters of self-consistent magnetized dusty sheaths are investigated usingcomputer simulations of a temporal evolution of one-dimensional slab plasma with dust *** evolution is caused by a collection of electrons and ions by both a wall (electrode) and dustparticles, which are initially immersed into plasma and distributed in front of the *** results show the existence of oscillations of a self-consistent potential in magnetizeddusty sheaths including boundary potentials. dust particles weaken magnetized sheaths and createadditional sheaths close to a boundary of dust particles. The magnetic field does not influence onthe dust particle charge.

We isolated an interesting fungus from dead leaves of Magnolia liliifera collected from Chiang Mai,*** novel strain is related to Plectosphaer-ellaceae based on the morphology of its asexual morph and.the analysis of sequence *** analyses using a combined gene analysis of LSU and ITS sequence data showed that this strain is clustered in the same clade with Furcasterigmium furcatum with high statistical *** new strains produced.the asexual morph in culture which is morphologically similar to ***,we identified this strain as the sexual morph of *** is the first record of sexual morph for the monotypic genus Furcasterigmium and.the first record of this genus on Magnolia.

Polymersomes scalably fabricated via flash nano- precipitation are non-toxic in non-human primates and associate with leukocytes in the spleen and kidney following intravenous administration

Vesicular nanocarrier formulations confer the ability to deliver hydrophobic and hydrophilic cargos simultaneously to cells of interest in vivo. While liposomal formulations reached.the clinic long ago, younger technologies such as polymeric vesicles （polymersomes） have yet to make the transition to clinical approval and use, in part due to difficulties in ensuring their safe and scalable production. In this work, we demonstrate the scalable production of poly（ethylene glycol）-block-poly（propylene sulfide）（PEG-bl-PPS） polymersomes via flash nanoprecipitation, and further show the safe administration of these nanocarriers to mice and non-human primates. In mice, PEG-bl-PPS polymersomes were found to be well tolerated at up to 200 mg/（***）. Following the administration of a more relevant 20 mg/（***） dosage in non-human primates, polymersomes were found to associate with numerous phagocytic immune cell populations, including a remarkable 68% of plasmacytoid dendritic cells and 〉 95% of macrophages in the spleen, while showing no toxicity or abnormalities in the liver, kidney, spleen, or blood. despite the presence of a dense PEG corona, neither anti-PEG antibodies nor complement activation were detected. This work provides evidence of the translatability of PEG-bI-PPS polymersomes into the clinic for therapeutic applications in humans.

A study of the correlation between dengue and weather in Kandy City, Sri Lanka (2003 -2012) and lessons learned

Background:Weather variables affect dengue *** study aimed to identify a dengue weather correlation pattern in Kandy,Sri Lanka,compare the results with results of similar studies,and establish ways for better control and prevention of ***:We collected data on reported dengue cases in Kandy and mid-year population data from 2003 to 2012,and calculated weekly *** obtained daily weather data from two weather stations and converted it into weekly *** studied correlation patterns between dengue incidence and weather variables using the wavelet time series analysis,and.then calculated cross-correlation coefficients to find magnitudes of ***:We found a positive correlation between dengue incidence and rainfall in millimeters,the number of rainy and wet days,the minimum temperature,and.the night and daytime,as well as average,humidity,mostly with a five-to seven-week ***,we found correlations between dengue incidence and maximum and average temperatures,hours of sunshine,and wind,with longer lag *** incidences showed a negative correlation with wind ***:Our results showed that rainfall,temperature,humidity,hours of sunshine,and wind are correlated with local dengue *** have suggested ways to improve dengue management routines and to control it in these times of global *** also noticed that the results of dengue weather correlation studies can vary depending on the data analysis.

Mechanical properties of gas hydrate-bearing sediments during hydrate dissociation

The changes in the mechanical properties of gas hydrate-bearing sediments(GHBS) induced by gas hydrate(GH) dissociation are essential to the evaluation of GH exploration and stratum instabilities. Previous studies present substantial mechanical data and constitutive models for GHBS at a given GH saturation under the non-dissociated condition. In this paper, GHBS was formed by the gas saturated method, GH was dissociated by depressurization until the GH saturation reached different dissociation degrees. The stress–strain curves were measured using triaxial tests at a same pore gas pressure and different confining pressures. The results show that the shear strength decreases progressively by 30%–90% of the initial value with GH dissociation, and.the modulus decreases by 50% –75%. Simplified relationships for the modulus, cohesion, and internal friction angle with GH dissociated saturation were presented.
