Organic d.e removal and.recycling performances of graphene oxid.-coated.biopolymer sponge

In this stud., a biopolymer sponge(PS) with a crosslinked.mixture of gelatin-chitosan-poly(vinyl alcohol) was d.pped.into graphene oxid.(GO) solution to form a composite sponge(CS, GO-coated.PS) by a combination of simple d.p-coating and.freeze-d.ying proced.res, as a sponge-like ad.orbent in organic d.e removal *** morphological, chemical, crystalline, mechanical and.thermal characterizations of the as-obtained.sponges were further investigated.for the possible changes in the structure of sponge-like ad.orbent after coating the GO sheets on the 3d.porous structure of PS. The results showed.that the CS had.possessed.effectively organic d.e removal performances comparing to the PS. In the ad.orption, the Langmuir and.pseud.-second.ord.r mod.ls correspond.ng to a monolayer approach and.a chemical ad.orption were appropriated. The maximum ad.orption capacity of Rhod.mine B and.Congo red.reached.126.8 and.135.0 mg·g-1; and.145.6 and.148.6 mg·g-1correspond.ng onto the PS and.CS. It ind.cates that the maximum ad.orption capacity on the CS enhanced.significantly comparing to those on the PS owing to the functional GO sheets coated.in the 3d.porous structure of PS, which lead. to supplying further functional ad.orption sid.s on the whole 3d.porous structure of CS. Notably, the sponges-like ad.orbents could.be regenerated.and.used.again without a remarkable d.crease of d.e removal ability occurred.in 9 ad.orbing–d.sorbing cycles. Therefore, the CS prepared.in this stud. can become a potential ad.orbent for actual applications because of non-toxic materials, proper structural features, low-cost material and.operation, and.reliable recyclability.

Investigating the biological function of proteins is a key aspect of protein stud.es. Bioinformatic method. become important for stud.ing the biological function of proteins. In this paper, we first give the chaos game representation （CGR） of rand.mly-linked.functional protein sequences, then propose the use of the recurrent iterated.function systems （RIFS） in fractal theory to simulate the measure based.on their chaos game representations. This method.helps to extract some features of functional protein sequences, and.furthermore the biological functions of these proteins. Then multifractal analysis of the measures based.on the CGRs of rand.mly-linked.functional protein sequences are performed. We find.that the CGRs have clear fractal patterns. The numerical results show that the RIFS can simulate the measure based.on the CGR very well. The relative stand.rd.error and.the estimated.probability matrix in the RIFS d. not d.pend.on the ord.r to link the functional protein sequences. The estimated.probability matrices in the RIFS with d.fferent biological functions are evid.ntly d.fferent. Hence the estimated.probability matrices in the RIFS can be used.to characterise the d.fference among linked.functional protein sequences with d.fferent biological functions. From the values of the d. curves, one sees that these functional protein sequences are not completely rand.m. The d. of all linked.functional proteins stud.ed.are multifractal-like and.sufficiently smooth for the Cq （analogous to specific heat） curves to be meaningful. Furthermore, the d. curves of the measure μ based.on their CCRs for d.fferent ord.rs to link the functional protein sequences are almost id.ntical if q 〉 0. Finally, the ca curves of all linked.functional proteins resemble a classical phase transition at a critical point.

As life expectancy rises, the prevalence of heart failure is stead.ly increasing, while d.nors for organ transplantation remain in short supply （Zwi-d.ntsis and.Gepstein, 2012）. Ind.ed. myocard.al infarction represents the foremost cause of d.ath within ind.strialized.nations （Henning, 2011） and.further, approximately 1% of all newborns harbor a congenital heart d.fect. Although med.cal interventions allow 〉 80% of those with card.ac d.fects to survive to ad.lthood. there are often extreme emotional and.financial burd.ns that accompany such congenital anomalies, and.many ind.vid.als will remain at a heightened.risk for myocard.al infarction throughout the remaind.r of their lives （Verheugt et al., 2010; Amianto et al., 2011）. In this review, we will d.scuss the nature of the failing heart and.strategies for repair from an epigenetic stand.oint. Significant focus will resid. on pluripotent-to-card.omyocyte d.fferentiation for cell replacement, epigenetic mechanisms of card.omyocyte d.fferentiation, epigenetic ＂memories,＂ and.epigenetic control of card.omyocyte cell fate toward.translational utility.

Photosynthesis is sensitive to high temperature with reversible d.clines d.ring mod.rate stress and.irreversible d.mage with more severe stress. While many stud.es have focused.on the irreversible d.mage,the reversible changes can tell how photosynthesis tolerates high temperature. Knowing how high temperature is tolerated.could.lead.to ways of extend.ng high temperature tolerance. New analytical method. have been used.to probe electron and.proton circuits of intact leaves at high temperature. Combined.with previous work with isolated.systems, it appears that there is a large change in red.x d.stribution among thylakoid.components. Photosystem I becomes more red.ced.but photosystem II and.the stroma become more oxid.zed. Several lines of evid.nce support the existence of significant cyclic electron flow at high temperature. It is hypothesized.that these changes allow for ad.nosine tri-phosphate homeostasis and.maintenance of an energy grad.ent across the thylakoid.membrane, helping to keep it from suffering irreversible d.mage at high temperature.

The optimization of a water d.stribution network （Wd.） is a highly nonlinear, multi-mod.l, and.constrained.combinatorial problem. Particle swarm opti- mization （PSO） has been shown to be a fast converging algorithm for Wd. optimization. An improved.estimation of d.stribution algorithm （Ed.） using historic best positions to construct a sample space is hybrid.zed.with PSO both in sequential and.in parallel to improve population d.versity control and.avoid.premature conver- gence. Two water d.stribution network benchmark exam- ples from the literature are ad.pted.to evaluate the performance of the proposed.hybrid.algorithms. The experimental results ind.cate that the proposed.algorithms achieved.the literature record.minimum （6.081 MS） for the small size Hanoi network. For the large size Balerma network, the parallel hybrid.achieved.a slightly lower minimum （1.921M） than the current literature reported.best minimum （1.923MC）. The average number of evaluations need.d.to achieve the minimum is one ord.r smaller than most existing algorithms. With a fixed. small number of evaluations, the sequential hybrid.outperforms the parallel hybrid.showing its capability for fast convergence. The fitness and.d.versity of the populations were tracked.for the proposed.algorithms. The track record.suggests that constructing an Ed. sample space with historic best positions can improve d.versity control significantly. Parallel hybrid.zation also helps to improve d.versity control yet its effect is relatively less significant.

Using a coculture system, we have stud.ed.the local action of Sertoli cells on Leyd.g cell function. A cellular automaton （ca）-finite element （FE） mod.l and.a phase field.（PF）-FE mod.l were used.to simulate equiaxed.d.nd.itic growth d.ring the solid.fication of hexagonal metals. In the ca-FE mod.l, the conservation equations of mass and.energy were solved.in ord.r to calculate the temperature field. solute concentration, and.the d.nd.itic growth morphology. ca-FE simulation results showed.reasonable agreement with the previously reported.experimental d.ta on second.ry d.nd.ite arm spacing （Sd.S） vs cooling rate. In the PF mod.l, a PF variable was used.to d.stinguish solid.and.liquid.phases similar to the conventional PF mod.ls for solid.fication of pure materials. Another PF variable was consid.red.to d.termine the evolution of solute concentration. Valid.tion of both mod.ls was performed.by comparing the simulation results with the analytical mod.l d.veloped.by Lipton-Glicksman-Kurz （LGK）, showing quantitatively good.agreement in the tip growth velocity at a given melt und.rcooling. Application to magnesium alloy AZ91 （approximated.with the binary Mg-8.9 wt% AI） illustrates the d.fficulty of mod.ling d.nd.ite growth in hexagonal systems using ca-FE regard.ng mesh-ind.ced.anisotropy and.a better performance of PF-FE in mod.ling multiple arbitrarily-oriented.d.nd.ites growth.
