Historical relationships of areas of endemism of the Brazilian Atlantic rain forest： a cladistic biogeographic analysis of harvestman taxa （Arachnida： Opiliones）

Based on a cladistic biogeographic analysis of 6 species-level phylogenies of harvestman taxa, wesearched for congruence in the historical relationships of 12 areas of endemism of the BrazilianAtlantic Rain Forest. We constructed general area cladograms using Primary Brooks ParsimonyAnaJysis （BPA）, BPA of nodes, and paralogy-free subtree analysis. These analyses resulted in 6general area cladograms, that allow to infer a general pattern of the relationships among areas ofendemism from the Brazilian Atlantic Rain Forest. Northern areas resulted related basally showingmain disjunctions at the doce River Valley and Todos os Santos Bay/S^o Francisco River *** remaining areas of endemism were included in a southern and a southeastern block, sepa-rated by the Ribeira do Iguape Valley. Incongruence Length differences tests showed no significantincongruence among the resulting cladograms and other matrix partitions. We concluded that tec-tonism and ancient marine transgressions were the probable processes responsible for the maindisjunctions, whereas Neogene refugia seem to have caused the more recent disjunctions. Thegeneral pattern and redundancy in area relationships suggest a model of main reiterative barriersin diversification at multiple times for the evolution of the Atlantic Rain Forest. The renewal of cla-distic biogeography and the search for common biogeographic patterns are discussed.

The brain is,after the adipose tissue,the organ with the greatest amount of lipids and diversity in their composition in the human *** neurons,lipids are involved in signaling pathways controlling autophagy,a lysosome-dependent catabolic process essential for the maintenance of neuronal homeostasis and the function of the primary cilium,a cellular antenna that acts as a communication hub that transfers extracellular signals into intracellular responses required for neurogenesis and brain development.A crosstalk between primary cilia and autophagy has been established;however,its role in the control of neuronal activity and homeostasis is barely *** this review,we briefly discuss the current knowledge regarding the role of autophagy and the primary cilium in *** we review the recent literature about specific lipid subclasses in the regulation of autophagy,in the control of primary cilium structure and its dependent cellular signaling in physiological and pathological conditions,specifically focusing on neurons,an area of research that could have major implications in neurodevelopment,energy homeostasis,and neurodegeneration.

Mathematical simulation of radial heat transfer in packed beds by pseudohomogeneous modeling

Uniform flow regime and constant effective thermal conductivity inside packed beds are commonly accepted in the evaluation of the fluid dynamics and heat transfer in such systems. However, several authors have confirmed the presence of an oscillatory velocity profile caused by the effective contribu~ tion of porosity profile in the fluid dynamic behavior of packed beds, which directly influences the heat transfer inside the beds. This paper describes the application of a pseudo-homogeneous mathematical model for describing heat transfer in packed beds with oscillatory profiles of velocity and porosity, using a radius-dependent model for effective thermal conductivity kr. Several temperature profiles were obtained in a packed bed system with thermal source located on the wall. The simulated temperature and effective thermal conductivity obtained from simulations were compared with experimental data and calculation from a model based on uniform kr fitting. The results indicate that the proposed mathematical modeling was capable of better redresenting the heat transfer in the packed bed.

Role of autophagy in cholangiocarcinoma:Pathophysiology and implications for therapy

Cholangiocarcinoma(CCA)is a malignant tumour of the biliary system that originates from the neoplastic transformation of *** is characterized by late diagnosis and poor outcome,with surgery considered as the last option for *** is a physiological lysosomal degradation process,essential for cellular homeostasis and ubiquitous in all eukaryotic *** studies have reported a potential involvement of autophagy in cancer,but it remains unclear whether activation of this process represents a survival mechanism of cancer *** the present review,we examine the autophagic process and summarize the current knowledge about the involvement of autophagy in the progression of *** link between autophagy and chemoresistance and the use of autophagic markers in diagnosis are also considered in *** evidence shows that the combination of autophagy modulators(activators or inhibitors)with conventional chemotherapeutic agents offers a possible treatment option against signalling pathways that are hyperactivated or altered in *** vitro evidence suggests that combination of chemotherapy agents,such as cisplatin,under activation or inhibition of autophagic processes,in two different CCA cell lines,may improve chemosensitivity and reduce cell survival,respectively.A deeper understanding of these pathways,in both cancer and non-cancer cells,could unveil possible therapeutic targets to treat CCA patients.

Aerogel scaffolds are nanostructured materials with beneficial properties for tissue engineering *** tracing of the state of the aerogels after their implantation is challenging due to their variable biodegradation rate and the lack of suitable strategies capable of in vivo monitoring the *** nanoparticles(UCNPs)have emerged as advanced tools for in vitro bioimaging because of their fluorescence *** this work,highly fluorescent UCNPs were loaded into aerogels to obtain theranostic implants for tissue engineering and bioimaging applications.3d-printed alginate-hydroxyapatite aerogels labeled with UCNPs were manufactured by 3d-printing and supercritical CO_(2) drying to generate personalize-to-patient *** physicochemical performance of the resulting structures was evaluated by printing fidelity measurements,nitrogen adsorption-desorption analysis,and different microscopies(confocal,transmission and scanning electron microscopies).Stability of the aerogels in terms of physicochemical properties was also tested after 3 years of *** was evaluated in vitro by different cell and hemocompatibility assays,in ovo and in vivo by safety and bioimaging studies using different murine *** profile,tissue index and histological evaluations of the main organs unveiled an in vivo downregulation of the inflammation after implantation of the ***-decorated aerogels were first-time manufactured and long-term traceable by fluorescence-based bioimaging until 3 weeks post-implantation,thereby endorsing their suitability as tissue engineering and theranostic nanodevices(*** implants).

Control of APN/Cd13 and NEP/Cd10 on sperm motility

Aminopeptidase N （APN/Cd13） and neutral endopeptidase （NEP/Cd10） are enzymes present in human sperm cells and involved in regulation of sperm motility of noncapacitated spermatozoa. We investigated the involvement of APN/Cd 13 and NEP/Cd 10 in motility and in kinematic parameters of human capacitated spermatozoa. Sperm cells isolated by a discontinuous Percoll gradient （40%-80%） followed up by swim-up techniques were incubated with the APN/Cd 13 -specific inhibitor, leuhistin （100 μmol L^-1）, and the NEP/Cd 10-specific inhibitor, thiorphan （1 μmol L^-1）. The complete inhibition of both APN/Cd 13 and NEP/Cd 10 improved sperm motility. Spermatozoa incubated with the APN/Cd13-specific inhibitor lenhistin showed asymmetrical trajectories, whereas sperm trajectories were more regular after treatment with the NEP/Cd 10-specific inhibitor thiorphan. In conclusion, APN/Cd 13 and NEP/Cd 10 modulate the motility of capacitated spermatozoa, although each of the enzymes seems to participate in the control of different aspects of sperm motility. Therefore, both inhibitors may be useful for sperm activation at different functional stages of spermatozoa.
