Background: Antiparkinsonian pharmacotherapy represents one of the most important expenses related to Parkinson’s disease. The application of generic drugs may help to reduce the economic burden of the disease;however, efficacy and safety of these products have been less studied. Objective: To investigate the efficacy and safety of generic rasagiline (ralago?) from a clinical perspective. Methods: The Clinical Global Impression of Severity scale was used to rate the most important motor and non-motor symptoms at baseline and 12 weeks after the initiation of ralago?. Patients also identified symptoms which were the main sources of their disability and distress in everyday life. results: A total of 499 patients were enrolled (231 females, mean age: 73.2 ± 9.1 years, mean duration of disease: 3.6 ± 3.7 years). Of them, 486 patients completed the study protocol. Both motor and non-motor symptoms showed improvement during 12-week ralago? treatment. Adverse events were rare, and the majority of them were not considered as serious. Conclusions: The generic rasagiline (ralago?) is an effective and safe generic product.

A novel process is demonstrated whereby dense arrays of single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWNT)are grown directly at the interface of a carbon material or carbon *** growth process combines the concepts of SWNT tip growth and alumina-supported SWNT base growth to yield what we refer to as“odako”*** odako growth,an alumina fl ake detaches from the carbon surface and supports catalytic growth of dense SWNT arrays at the tip,leaving a direct interface between the carbon surface and the dense SWNT *** addition to being a new and novel form of SWNT array growth,this technique provides a route toward future development of many important applications for dense aligned SWNT arrays.

Non-Neutropenic Sepsis in Cancer Patients: The Luminal Obstruction Syndrome

Background: Neutropenic sepsis is a frequent complication of cytotoxic chemotherapy delivered for cancer patients. Its management is well determined by clinical guidelines. Non-neutropenic sepsis is another potential complication in cancer patients. Its management is less established in the medical literature. Materials and Methods: Three cases are presented to illustrate favourable evolution of non-neutropenic biliary-, uro- and bronchogenic-sepsis in cancer patients with poor prognosis. results: All three patients had a survival over six months after the management of the septic complication. Two of them received subsequent systemic anticancer treatment. Conclusions: Survival benefit offered by the management of cancer-related non-neutropenic sepsis may be comparable to the benefit obtained by systemic anticancer treatments. Cost-effectiveness of sepsis management may be better than that of anticancer treatments.

Characteristics of allergic colitis in breast-fed infants in the absence of cow's milk allergy

AIM: To investigate the characteristics of mucosal le-sions and their relation to laboratory data and long-term follow up in breast-fed infants with allergic colitis. METHOdS: In this study 31 breast-fed infants were prospectively evaluated (mean age, 17.4 wk) whose rectal bleeding had not ceased after a maternal elimi-nation diet for cow's milk. Thirty-four age-matched and breast-fed infants (mean age, 16.9 wk) with no rectal bleeding were enrolled for laboratory testing as con-trols. Laboratory findings, colonoscopic and histological characteristics were prospectively evaluated in infants with rectal bleeding. Long-term follow-up with differ-ent nutritional regimes (L-amino-acid based formula or breastfeeding) was also included. rESULTS: Iron deficiency, peripheral eosinophilia andthrombocytosis were significantly higher in patients with allergic colitis in comparison to controls (8.4±3.2 μmol/L vs 13.7±4.7 μmol/L, Prespectively). At colonosco-py, lymphonodular hyperplasia or aphthous ulceration were present in 83% of patients. Twenty-two patients were given L-amino acid-based formula and 8 contin-ued the previous feeding. Time to cessation of rectal bleeding was shorter in the special formula feeding group (mean, 1.4 wk; range, 0.5-3 wk) when com-pared with the breast-feeding group (mean, 5.3 wk; range, 2-9 wk). Nevertheless, none of the patients ex-hibited rectal bleeding at the 3-mo visit irrespective of the type of feeding. Peripheral eosinophilia and cessa-tion of rectal bleeding after administration of elemental formula correlated with a higher density of mucosal eosinophils. CONCLUSION: Infant hematochezia, after cow's milk allergy exclusion, is generally a benign and probably self-limiting disorder despite marked mucosal abnor-mality. Formula feeding results in shorter time to cessa-tion of rectal bleeding; however, breast-feeding should not be discouraged in long-lasting

Background: Standard adjuvant or neo-adjuvant chemotherapy of primary breast cancers consists of docetaxel and the combination of anthracyclin-cyclophosphamide in two steps. According to international literature, the neo-adjuvant treatment of triple negative tumours by the combination of docetaxel-carboplatin allows a high rate of pathological complete remission and the adjuvant treatment of small, node negative HEr2+ tumours by the combination of paclitaxel-trastuzumab allows a negligible recurrence rate together with a very good tolerance. Methods: Our aim was the retrospective analysis of the alternative chemotherapy regimens in our patient population. results: The neo-adjuvant docetaxel-carboplatin allowed a 55% pathological complete remission rate among 20 patients. With the adjuvant paclitaxel-trastuzumab, we did not notice any recurrence among 5 patients at a median follow-up of 18 months. Conclusion: Our results correspond to the literature data. The spread of the protocols in the clinical practice is proposed.

Android is currently one of the most popular smartphone operating systems. However, Android has the largest share of global mobile malware and significant public attention has been brought to the security issues of Android. In this paper, we investigate the use of a clone detector to identify known Android malware. We collect a set of Android applications known to contain malware and a set of benign applications. We extract the Java source code from the binary code of the applications and use NiCad, a near-miss clone detector, to find the classes of clones in a small subset of the malicious applications. We then use these clone classes as a signature to find similar source files in the rest of the malicious applications. The benign collection is used as a control group. In our evaluation, we successfully decompile more than 1 000 malicious apps in 19 malware families. Our results show that using a small portion of malicious applications as a training set can detect 95% of previously known malware with very low false positives and high accuracy at 96.88%.
