Management of symptomatic neuromas:a narrative review of the most common surgical treatment modalities in amputees

Symptomatic neuromas are an all-too-common complication following limb amputation or extremity trauma,leading to chronic and debilitating pain for *** resection of symptomatic neuromas has proven to be the superior method of intervention,but traditional methods of neuroma resection do not address the underlying pathophysiology leading to the formation of a future symptomatic neuroma and lead to high reoperation *** approaches employ the physiology of peripheral nerve injury to harness the regeneration of nerves to their *** review explores the underlying pathophysiology of neuroma formation and centralization of pain *** compares the traditional surgical approach for symptomatic neuroma resection and describes three novel surgical strategies that harness this pathophysiology of neuroma formation to their *** traditional resection of symptomatic neuromas is currently the standard of care for amputation patients,but new techniques including the regenerative peripheral nerve interface,targeted muscle reinnervation,and intraosseous transposition have shown promise in improving patient pain outcomes for postamputation pain and residual limb *** neuromas are a chronic and debilitating complication following amputation procedures and trauma,and the current standard of care does not address the underlying pathophysiology leading to the formation of the *** techniques are under development that may provide improved patient pain outcomes and a higher level of care for symptomatic neuroma resection.

Embodiment describes the sense of one’s own body,encompassing dimensions of being,having,and using a *** breast reconstruction,embodiment can be understood as how effectively the reconstructed breast replaces the patient’s missing *** there has been increasing attention in recent decades on understanding and measuring embodiment in the prosthetic limb,there is limited literature applying embodiment to the context of breast *** posit that the literature on prosthetic embodiment can be applied to evolving discussions on breast reconstruction outcomes and patient *** breast reconstruction techniques continue to evolve,such as advances in nerve coaptation and reinnervation of the breasts,the concept of embodiment may help broaden the scope of how patient outcomes can be more holistically *** systematic review examines existing literature on embodiment after breast reconstruction,summarizes embodiment and its subcomponents,and discusses how embodiment can be a helpful framework for the future of breast reconstruction outcome measures.

Recent reports suggest that aging is not solely a physiological process in living beings;instead, it should be considered a pathological process or disease(Amorim et al., 2022). Consequently, this process involves a wide range of factors, spanning from genetic to environmental factors, and even includes the gut microbiome(GM)(Mayer et al., 2022). All these processes coincide at some point in the inflammatory process, oxidative stress, and apoptosis, at different degrees in various organs and systems that constitute a living organism(Mayer et al., 2022;AguilarHernández et al., 2023).

An overview of the anti-SARS-CoV-2 properties of Artemisia annua, its antiviral action, protein-associated mechanisms, and repurposing for COVId-19 treatment

Artemisia annua and its phytocompounds have a rich history in the research and treatment of malaria,rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and other diseases. Currently, the World Health Organization recommends artemisinin-based combination therapy as the first-line treatment for multi-drug-resistant malaria. due to the various research articles on the use of antimalarial drugs to treat coronaviruses, a question is raised: would A. annua and its compounds provide anti-severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2(SARS-CoV-2) properties? PubMed/MEdLINE, Scopus, and Google Scholar were searched for peer-reviewed articles that investigated the antiviral effects and mechanisms of A. annua and its phytochemicals against SARS-CoVs. Particularly, articles that evidenced the herb’s role in inhibiting the coronavirus-host proteins were favored. Nineteen studies were retrieved. From these,fourteen in silico molecular docking studies demonstrated potential inhibitory properties of artemisinins against coronavirus-host proteins including 3 CL^(PRO), S protein, N protein, E protein, cathepsin-L, helicase protein, nonstructural protein 3(nsp3), nsp10, nsp14, nsp15, and glucose-regulated protein 78 ***, A. annua constituents may impede the SARS-CoV-2 attachment, membrane fusion, internalization into the host cells, and hinder the viral replication and transcription process. this is the first comprehensive overview of the application of compounds from A. annua against SARS-CoV-2/coronavirus disease 2019(COVId-19) describing all target proteins. A. annua’s biological properties, the signaling pathways implicated in the COVId-19, and the advantages and disadvantages for repurposing A. annua compounds are discussed. the combination of A. annua’s biological properties, action on different signaling pathways and target proteins, and a multi-drug combined-therapy approach may synergistically inhibit SARS-CoV-2 and assist in the COVId-19 treatment. Efficient GW calculations in two dimensional materials through a stochastic integration of the screened potential

Many-body perturbation theory methods,such as the G0W0 approximation,are able to accurately predict quasiparticle(QP)properties of several classes of ***,the calculation of the QP band structure of two-dimensional(2d)semiconductors is known to require a very dense BZ sampling,due to the sharp q-dependence of the dielectric matrix in the long-wavelength limit(q→0).In this work,we show how the convergence of the QP corrections of 2d semiconductors with respect to the BZ sampling can be drastically improved,by combining a Monte Carlo integration with an interpolation scheme able to represent the screened potential between the calculated grid *** method has been validated by computing the band gap of three different prototype monolayer materials:a transition metal dichalcogenide(MoS2),a wide band gap insulator(hBN)and an anisotropic semiconductor(phosphorene).the proposed scheme shows that the convergence of the gap for these three materials up to 50meV is achieved by using k-point grids comparable to those needed by dFt calculations,while keeping the grid uniform.
