The promising solar irradiated photocatalyst by pairing of bismuth oxide quantum dots(BQDs)doped TiO_(2)with nitrogen doped graphene oxide(NGO)nanocomposite(NGO/BQDs-TiO_(2))was *** was used for degradation of organic pollutants like 2,4-dichlorophenol(2,4-DcP)and stable dyes,*** B and congo Red.X-ray diffraction(XRD)profile of NGO showed reduction in oxygenic functional groups and restoring of graphitic crystal *** characteristic diffraction peaks of TiO_(2)and its composites showed crystalline anatase TiO_(2).Morphological images represent spherical shaped TiO_(2)evenly covered with BQDs spread on NGO *** surface linkages of NO-O-Ti,c-O-Ti,Bi-O-Ti and vibrational modes are observed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)and Raman *** and NGO modified TiO_(2)results into red shifting in visible region as studied in diffused reflectance spectroscopy(DRS).NGO and BQDs in TiO_(2)are linked with defect centers which reduced the recombination of free charge carriers by quenching of photoluminescence(PL)intensities.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)shows that no peak related to c-O in NGO/BQDs-TiO_(2)is *** indicated that doping of nitrogen into GO has reduced some oxygen functional *** functionalities in NGO and photosensitizing effect of BQDs in ternary composite have improved photocatalytic activity against organic *** byproducts during photo degradation process of 2,4-DcP were studied through high performance liquid chromatography(HPLc).Study of radical scavengers indicated that O_(2)^(·-) has significant role for degradation of 2,*** investigations propose that fabricated nanohybrid architecture has potential for degradation of environmental pollutions.

Adult progenitor cells activation is a key event in the formation of adult *** Drosophilat formation of abdominal adult trachea depends on the specific activation of tracheal adult progenitors(tracheoblasts)at the Tr4 and Tr5 spiracular *** of these tracheoblasts generates a pool of tracheal cells that migrate toward the posterior part of the trachea by the activation of the branchless/fibroblast growth factor(Bnl/FGF)signaling to form the abdominal adult ***,we show that,in addition to migration,Bnl/FGF signaling,mediated by the transcription factor Pointed,is also required for tracheoblast *** tracheoblast activation relies on the expression of the FGF ligand bnl in their nearby ***,we show that,in the absence of the transcription factor cut(ct),Bnl/FGF signaling induces endoreplication of tracheoblasts partially by promoting fizzy-related ***,our results suggest a dual role of Bnl/FGF signaling in tracheoblasts,inducing both proliferation and endoreplication,depending on the presence or absence of the transcription factor ct,respectively.

crohn's disease environmental factors in the developing world: A case-control study in a statewide catchment area in Brazil

To identify environmental risk factors associated with the development of crohn’s disease (cD) in order to re-assess the hygiene hypothesis. METHODSA hospital-based, case-control study was carried out with cD patients (n = 145) and controls (n = 163) representing a socioeconomically diverse statewide catchment area in Brazil. controls were recruited from caregivers of patients seen in different outpatient clinics at the same hospital. A multi-item survey with 94 questions regarding family history of cD, perinatal and childhood circumstances, living conditions, tobacco use and familial socioeconomic status was carried out by interviewers. RESULTSOn the univariate analysis, predictive variables for cD included being male, under age of 40, a high education level, urban dweller, smaller family size, exposure to enteric pathogens and user of treated water (P cantly associated with cD were male gender (OR = 2.09), under age 40 (OR = 3.10), white (OR = 2.32), from a small family in childhood (OR = 2.34) and adulthood (OR = 3.02), absence of viral infections in childhood (OR = 2.23), exposure to enteric pathogens (OR = 2.41), having had an appendectomy (OR = 2.47) and prior or current smoker (OR = 2.83/1.12). cONcLUSIONMost variables supporting the “hygiene hypothesis” are associated with the development of cD but are not independent predictors of the diagnosis.

BAcKGROUND Many scores have been suggested to assess the severity of acute pancreatitis upon *** extrapancreatic necrosis volume is a novel,promising score that appears to be superior to other scores investigated so *** To evaluate the discriminatory power of extrapancreatic necrosis volume to identify severe cases of acute *** A total of 123 patients diagnosed with acute pancreatitis at Institute of Gastroenterology and Hepatology,St Spiridon Hospital between January 1,2017 and December 31,2019 were analyzed *** was classified according to the revised Atlanta classification(rAc)as mild,moderate,or *** was also evaluated by computed tomography and classified according to the computed tomography severity index(cTSI)and the modified cTSI(mcTSI).The results were compared with the extrapancreatic volume necrosis to establish the sensitivity and specificity of each *** The cTSI and mcTSI imaging scores and the extrapancreatic necrosis volume were highly correlated with the severity of pancreatitis estimated by the rAc(r=0.926,Pctively).The correlation of c-reactive protein with severity was positive but not as strong,and was not significant(r=0.133,P=0.154).The best predictor for the assessment of severe pancreatitis was the extrapancreatic necrosis volume[area under the curve(AUc)=0.993;95%confidence interval(cI):0.981-1.005],with a 99.5%sensitivity and 99.0%specificity at a cutoff value of 167 mL,followed by the mcTSI 2007 score(AUc=0.972;95%cI:0.946-0.999),with a 98.0%sensitivity and 96.5%specificity,and the cTSI 1990 score(AUc=0.969;95%cI:0.941-0.998),with a 97.0%sensitivity and 95.0%*** Radiological severity scores correlate strongly and positively with disease *** necrosis volume shows the best diagnostic accuracy for severe cases.

Aspects of forest restoration and hydrology:the hydrological function of litter

Although forests play important roles in the hydrological cycle,there is little information that relates the water retention capacity of litter in areas under passive restoration,especially in cerrado *** study relates litter levels to water holding capacity and effective water retention among forest fragments under different passive restoration stages:46,11,and 8 years to better understand litter hydrological functions in the *** retention capacity and effective water retention capacity of litters(unstructured materials,branches and leaves)in the field were monitored on a monthly *** litter accumulation at 46 years was significantly higher than that of the other succession *** litter mass was significantly higher than that of leaves and *** 46-year stage had the highest water holding capacity in the leaf fraction,followed by unstructured material and *** the water holding capacity was lower in the oldest resto-ration,this site showed the highest efficiency under field *** process was quickly reestablished,as the 11-year restoration showed results closer to that for the 46-year stage in comparison to the area at 8 ***,passive restoration plays a key role in soil water mainte-nance due to the influence of litter in cerrado *** and the imminent need of restoring degraded sites,highlight the need for further studies focused on bet-ter understanding of the process of forest restoration and its temporal effect on soil water recovery dynamics.

Gastric cancer(Gc) remains an important cause of cancer death worldwide with a high mortality rate due to the fact that the majority of Gc cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage when the prognosis is poor and the treatment options are limited. Unfortunately, the existing circulating biomarkers for Gc diagnosis and prognosis display low sensitivity and specificity and the Gc diagnosis is based only on the invasive procedures such as upper digestive endoscopy. There is a huge need for less invasive or non-invasive tests but also highly specific biomarkers in case of Gc. Body fluids such as peripheral blood, urine or saliva,stomach wash/gastric juice could be a source of specific biomarkers, providing important data for screening and diagnosis in Gc. This review summarized the recently discovered circulating molecules such as microRNAs, long non-coding RNAs, circular RNAs, which hold the promise to develop new strategies for early diagnosis of Gc.

Evolution of deceit by worthless donations in a nuptial gift-giving spider

Males of the nursery web spider Pisaura mirabil usually offer an insect prey wrapped in white silk as a nuptial gift to facilitate copulation. Males exploit female foraging preferences in a sexual context as females feed on the gift during copula- tion. It is possible for males to copulate without a gift, however strong female preference for the gift leads to dramatically higher mating success for gift-giving males. Females are polyandrous, and gift-giving males achieve higher mating success, longer copulations, and increased sperm transfer that confer advantages in sperm competition. Intriguingly, field studies show that ap- proximately one third of males carry a worthless gift consisting of dry and empty insect exoskeletons or plant fragments wrapped in white silk. Silk wrapping disguises gift content and females are able to disclose gift content only after accepting and feeding on the gift, meanwhile males succeed in transferring sperm. The evolution of deceit by worthless gift donation may be favoured by strong intra-sexual competition and costs of gift-construction including prey capture, lost foraging opportunities and investment in silk wrapping. Females that receive empty worthless gifts terminate copulation sooner, which reduces sperm transfer and likely disadvantages males in sperm competition. The gift-giving trait may thus become a target of sexually antagonistic co-evolution, where deceit by worthless gifts leads to female resistance to the trait. We discuss factors such as female mating rate and intensity of sperm competition that may shape the evolution of male deception, and how ecological factors may influence the evolution and maintenance of worthless gifts as an evolutionarily stable alternative mating strategy by frequency dependent selection

Aims Mediterranean coastal dunes are habitats of great conservation interest,with a distinctive and rich *** the last century,Acacia spp.,native from Australia,have been introduced in Portugal,with the objective of stabilizing sand dunes,and since have become dominant in numerous sand dune *** invasion process led to the reduction of native plant species richness,changed soil characteristics and modified habitat’s microclimatic *** aim of this research was to typify and compare,in Mediterranean sand dune ecosystems,the ecophysiological responses to drought of Helichrysum italicum and corema album,two native species,and Acacia longifolia,an exotic invasive *** addressed the following specific objectives:(i)to com-pare water relations and water use efficiencies,(ii)to evaluate water stress,(iii)to assess water use strategies and water sources used by plants and(iv)to evaluate the morphological adaptations at leaf and phyllode *** In order to obtain an integrative view of ecophysiological patterns,water relations and performance measuring methods have been applied:predawn(ψPD)and midday(ψMD)water potential,chloro-phyll a fluorescence,oxygen isotopic composition of xylem,rain and groundwater(δ18O)and leaf carbon isotopic discrimination(Δ13c).The leaf characteristics of the three species,as well as the histochemistry of non-glandular trichome cell walls,were also studied to identify morpho-traits related to drought *** Findings The results support our initial hypothesis:although *** clearly possesses a degree of resistance to water stress,such ability is provided by a different water strategy,when compared to native *** relied on morphological adaptations to restrict water loss,whereas the invasive species adjusted the water uptake as a way to balance their limited ability of restricting water *** corroborate that woody native species(i)have a conservative water-saving strategy an

Neuroprotective action of Ginkgo biloba on the enteric nervous system of diabetic rats

AIM: To investigate the effect of Ginkgo biloba extract on the enteric neurons in the small intestine of diabetic rats. METHODS: Fifteen Wistar rats were divided into three groups: control group (c), diabetic group (D) and diabetic-treated (DT) daily with EGb 761 extract (50 mg/kg body weight) for 120 d. The enteric neurons were identified by the myosin-V immunohistochemical technique. The neuronal density and the cell body area were also analyzed. RESULTS: There was a significant decrease in the neuronal population (myenteric plexus P = 0.0351; submucous plexus P = 0.0217) in both plexuses of the jejunum in group D when compared to group c. With regard to the ileum, there was a significant decrease (P = 0.0117) only in the myenteric plexus. The DT group showed preservation of the neuronal population in the jejunum submucous plexus and in the myenteric plexus in the ileum. The cell body area in group D increased significantly (P = 0.0001) in the myenteric plexus of both segments studied as well as in the ileum submucosal plexus, when compared to c. The treatment reduced (P = 0.0001) the cell body area of the submucosal neurons of both segments and the jejunum myenteric neurons. cONcLUSION: The purified Ginkgo biloba extract has a neuroprotective effect on the jejunum submucous plexus and the myenteric plexus of the ileum of diabetic rats.

Alternative synthetic route for the heterometallic cO-releasing [Sb@Rh12（cO）27]3- icosahedral carbonyl cluster and synthesis of its new unsaturated [Sb@Rh12（cO）24]4- and dimeric [{Sb@Rh12Sb（cO）25}2Rh（cO）2PPh3]7- derivatives

The hetero-metallic [Sb@Rh12（cO）27]3-cluster has been known as for over three decades thanks to Vidal and co-workers, and represents the first example of an E-centered（E=heteroatom） icosahedral rhodium carbonyl cluster. However, its synthesis required high temperature（140–160 °c） and elevated cO pressure（400 atm）.Applying the redox condensation method for cluster preparation, we herein report a new synthetic, high-yield route for preparing [Sb@Rh12（cO）27]3-under much milder conditions of temperature and pressure. Notably,when the same synthesis was carried out under N2instead of cO atmosphere, the new isostructural but unsaturated derivative [Sb@Rh12（cO）24]4-was obtained, for which we report the full X-ray structural characterization. This species represents one of the few examples of an icosahedral cluster disobeying the electron-counting Wade-Mingos rules, possessing less than the expected 170 cluster valence electrons（cVEs）.Judging from IR monitoring, the two species can be obtained one from the other by switching between N2and cO atmosphere, making [Sb@Rh12（cO）27]3-a spontaneous cO-releasing molecule. Finally, the study of the chemical reactivity of [Sb@Rh12（cO）27]3-with PPh3allowed us to obtain the new [{Sb@Rh12Sb（cO）25}2Rh（cO）2PPh3]7-dimeric compound, for which we herein report the full X-ray structural and31P NMR analyses.
