BACKGROUND Parahiatal hernias(PHHs)are rare occurring disease,with a reported incidence of 0.2%-0.35%in patients undergoing surgery for hiatal *** found only a handful of cases of primary PHHs in the *** aim of this paper is to present a case of a primary PHH and perform a systematic review of the *** SUmmARY We report the case of a 60-year-old Caucasian woman with no history of thoracoabdominal surgery or trauma,which accused epigastric pain,starting 2 years prior,pseudo-angina and *** on imagistic findings the patient was diagnosed with a PHH and an associated type I hiatal *** underwent laparoscopic surgery and we found an opening in the diaphragm of 7 cm diameter,lateral to the left crus,through which 40%-50% of the stomach had herniated in the thorax,and a small sliding hiatal hernia with an anatomically intact hiatal orifice but slightly *** performed closure of the defect,suture hiatoplasty and a“floppy”Nissen *** outcome was uneventful,with the patient discharged on the fifth postoperative *** performed a review of the literature and identified eight articles regarding primary *** data was compiled into one tabled and *** Primary PHHs are rare entities,with similar clinical and imagistic findings with paraesophageal *** usually includes laparoscopic approach with closure of the defect and the esophageal hiatus should be dissected and *** outcome is favorable in all cases reviewed and no recurrence is cited in the literature.

Renal elimination of organic anions in cholestasis

The disposition of most drugs is highly dependent on specialized transporters. OAT1 and OAT3 are two organic anion transporters expressed in the basolateral membrane of renal proximal tubule cells, identified as contributors to xenobiotic and endogenous organic anion secretion. It is well known that cholestasis may cause renal damage. Impairment of kidney function produces modifications in the renal elimination of drugs. Recent studies have demonstrated that the renal abundance of OAT1 and OAT3 plays an important role in the renal elimination of organic anions in the presence of extrahepatic cholestasis. Time elapsed after obstructive cholestasis has an important impact on the regulation of both types of organic anion transporters. The renal expression of OAT1 and OAT3 should be taken into account in order to improve pharmacotherapeutic efficacy and to prevent drug toxicity during the onset of this hepatic disease.

Dynamic Analysis for the Global Performance of An SPm-Feeder-Cage System Under Waves and Currents

In the present study, the dynamic response of a coupled SPm-feeder-cage system under irregular waves and shear currents is analyzed. A numerical model is developed by using the commercial software Orca Flex. Hydrodynamics coefficients of the vessel are calculated by using a 3D diffraction/radiation panel program. First- and second-order wave forces are included in the calculations. morison equation is used to compute the drag force on line elements representing the net. Drag coefficients are determined at every time step in the simulation considering the relative normal velocity between the structural elements and the fluid flow. The dynamic response of the coupled system is analyzed for various environments and net materials. The results of the study show the effects of solidity ratio of the net and vertical positions of the cage on the overall dynamic response of the system, confirming the viability of this type of configuration for future development of offshore aquaculture in deep waters.

Halide perovskite solar cells(PSCs)have already demonstrated power conversion efficiencies above 25%,which makes them one of the most attractive photovoltaic ***,one of the main bottlenecks towards their commercialization is their long-term stability,which should exceed the 20-year *** engineering is an effective pathway for the enhancement of device *** applied as organic or inorganic compounds,improve crystal grain growth enhancing power conversion *** interaction of their functional groups with the halide perovskite(HP)absorber,as well as with the transport layers,results in defect passivation and ion immobilization improving device performance and *** this review,we briefly summarize the different types of additives recently applied in PSC to enhance not only efficiency but also long-term *** discuss the different mechanism behind additive engineering and the role of the functional groups of these additives for defect *** emphasis is given to their effect on the stability of PSCs under environmental conditions such as humidity,atmosphere,light irradiation(UV,visible)or heat,taking into account the recently reported ISOS *** also discuss the relation between deep-defect passivation,non-radiative recombination and device efficiency,as well as the possible relation between shallow-defect passivation,ion immobilization and device operational ***,insights into the challenge and criteria for additive selection are provided for the further stability enhancement of PSCs.

Neurotoxicity of the pesticide rotenone on neuronal polarization: a mechanistic approach

Neurons are the most extensive and polarized cells that display a unique single long axon and multiple dendrites, which are compartments exhibiting structural and functional differences. Polarity occurs early in neuronal development and it is maintained by complex subcellular mechanisms throughout cell life. A well-defined and controlled spatio-temporal program of cellular and molecular events strictly regulates the formation of the axon and dendrites from a non-polarized cell. This event is critical for an adequate neuronal wiring and therefore for the normal functioning of the nervous system. Neuronal polarity is very sensitive to the harmful effects of different factors present in the environment. In this regard, rotenone is a crystalline, colorless and odorless isoflavone used as insecticide, piscicide and broad spectrum pesticide commonly used earlier in agriculture. In the present review we will summarize the toxicity mechanism caused by this pesticide in different neuronal cell types, focusing on a particular biological mechanism whereby rotenone could impair neuronal polarization in cultured hippocampal neurons. Recent advances suggest that the inhibition of axonogenesis produced by rotenone could be related with its effect on microtubule dynamics, the actin cytoskeleton and their regulatory pathways, particularly affecting the small RhoGTPase RhoA. Unveiling the mechanism by which rotenone produces neurotoxicity will be instrumental to understand the cellular mechanisms involved in neurodegenerative diseases influenced by this environmental pollutant, which may lead to research focused on the design of new therapeutic strategies.

Carbon capture for decarbonisation of energy-intensive industries:a comparative review of techno-economic feasibility of solid looping cycles

Pure and mixed plantations of Persian walnut (Juglans regia L.) for high quality timber production in Chile, South America

Aims Persian walnut(Juglans regia L.),an interesting forest species for the veneering industry,requires adequate management to produce valuable high-quality *** species associations and management level can improve stand productivity,the novelty of this work was to assess Persian walnut performance in different planting mixtures and in pure plantations conditioned to management *** Growth,straightness and survival measurements were taken annually for 7 years after planting pure and mixed plantations under two contrasting management *** were recorded at Age 7 in all *** each management intensity,besides the monoculture,three mixtures were tested:a mixture of only main forest species,main forest species plus one arboreal companion species,Black alder(Alnus glutinosa L.)and main species plus the shrub Russian olive(Elaeagnus angustifolia L.)as nurse species.A test of interaction between plantation type and management scenario was conducted using repeated growth *** Findings The interaction was significant,indicating the presence of different mechanisms underlying plantation effects under high and low management *** with pure plantations,Persian walnut associated with the nurse shrub exhibited 78%higher height and 53%higher diameter growth in plantations under low *** benefits(lower presence of walnut blight than in the monoculture)and better straightness were also found in the association including the shrub when the management intensity was not *** beneficial effects in the presence of Russian olive were not present under high management intensity(irrigation,fertilization,tutoring and frequent pruning).Site-specific designs for Persian walnut plantations would depend on the foreseen management intensity.

Expression of renal Oat5 and NaDC1 transporters in rats with acute biliary obstruction

AIm: To examine renal expression of organic anion transporter 5(Oat5) and sodium-dicarboxylate cotransporter 1(Na DC1), and excretion of citrate in rats with acute extrahepatic ***: Obstructive jaundice was induced in rats by double ligation and division of the common bile duct(BDL group). Controls underwent sham operation that consisted of exposure, but not ligation, of the common bile duct(Sham group). Studies were performed 21 h after surgery. During this period, animals were maintained in metabolic cages in order to collect urine. The urinary volume was determined by gravimetry. The day of the experiment, blood samples were withdrawn and used to measure total and direct bilirubin as indicative parameters of hepatic function. Serum and urine samples were used for biochemical determinations. Immunoblotting for Oat5 and Na DC1 were performed in renal homogenates and brush border membranes from Sham and BDL rats. Immunohistochemistry studies were performed in kidneys from both experimental groups. Total RNA was extracted from rat renal tissue in order to perform reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Another set of experimental animals were used toevaluate medullar renal blood flow(m RBF) using fluorescent ***: Total and direct bilirubin levels were significantly higher in BDL animals, attesting to the adequacy of biliary obstruction. An important increase in m RBF was determined in BDL group(Sham: 0.53 ± 0.12 m L/min per 100 g body weight vs BDL: 1.58 ± 0.24 m L/min per 100 g body weight, P me was observed in BDL animals. An important decrease in urinary levels of citrate was seen in BDL group.
