Anti-ganglioside antibodies are associated with delayed/poor clinical recovery in Guillain-barrèsyndrome,mostly related to halted axon ***-linking of cell surface gangliosides by anti-ganglioside antibodies triggers inhibition of nerve repair in in vitro and in vivo paradigms of axon *** effects involve the activation of the small GTPase Rho A/ROCK signaling pathways,which negatively modulate growth cone cytoskeleton,similarly to well stablished inhibitors of axon regeneration described so *** aim of this work was to perform a proof of concept study to demonstrate the effectiveness of Y-27632,a selective pharmacological inhibitor of ROCK,in a mouse model of axon regeneration of peripheral nerves,where the passive immunization with a monoclonal antibody targeting gangliosides GD1a and GT1b was previously reported to exert a potent inhibitory effect on regeneration of both myelinated and unmyelinated *** results demonstrate a differential sensitivity of myelinated and unmyelinated axons to the pro-regenerative effect of *** with a total dosage of 9 mg/kg of Y-27632 resulted in a complete prevention of anti-GD1a/GT1b monoclonal antibody-mediated inhibition of axon regeneration of unmyelinated fibers to skin and the functional recovery of mechanical cutaneous *** contrast,the same dose showed toxic effects on the regeneration of myelinated ***,scale down of the dosage of Y-27632 to 5 mg/kg resulted in a significant although not complete recovery of regenerated myelinated axons exposed to anti-GD1a/GT1b monoclonal antibody in the absence of toxicity in animals exposed to only ***,these findings confirm the in vivo participation of Rho A/ROCK signaling pathways in the molecular mechanisms associated with the inhibition of axon regeneration induced by anti-GD1a/GT1b monoclonal *** findings open the possibility of therapeutic pharmacological intervention targeting Rho A/R

Plant triterpenoid saponins function as susceptibility factors to promote the pathogenicity of botrytis cinerea

Although the degree of mate competition, given extreme differences in sex ratio, explains much of the pattern of male-biased size dimorphism among diverse taxa, it fails for some species which have potential for intense male competition for mates and yet exhibit little or no sexual size dimorphism （SSD）. This fact suggest that species with low SSD should be express the effect of evolutionary pressure in non-obvious geometrical shape promoted by sex ratio in an evolutionary time scale. To evaluate this hypothesis we used phylogenetic comparative method in a bayesian framework to investigate the evolution of SSD and the role of sex ratio at inter-specific level in the species of Ceroglossus （Coleoptera： Carabidae）. In our results the proportion farthest from 1：1 is associated with more disparate body shape, even though the entire group has minimum variation in sex ratio, which is an intrinsic life history character of this group considering its phylogenetic conservatism or phylogenetic signal. We suggest that the sex ratio has determined the dimorphism degree during evolution of this group, since both traits have increased or decreased together during the species divergence （i.e. positive phylogenetic correlation： r2=0.85）. We suggest that morphological studies of SSD will benefit from using comparative method with bayesian approaches to assess the effect of phylogenetic history and its uncertainty. Finally, this will be allow to researchers to quantify the uncertainty of specific evolutionary hypotheses accounting for observed sexual dimorphism patterns.

Degenerate Nonlinear elliptic equations Lacking in Compactness

In this paper, the authors prove the existence of solutions for degenerate elliptic equations of the form-div(a(x)▽_p u(x)) = g(λ, x, |u|^(p-2)u) in R^N, where ▽_pu =|▽u|^(p-2)▽u and a(x) is a degenerate nonnegative weight. The authors also investigate a related nonlinear eigenvalue problem obtaining an existence result which contains information about the location and multiplicity of eigensolutions. The proofs of the main results are obtained by using the critical point theory in Sobolev weighted spaces combined with a Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg-type inequality and by using a specific minimax method, but without making use of the Palais-Smale condition.

Influence of agriculture and aquaculture activities on the response of autotrophic picoplankton in Laguna Macapule, Gulf of California (Mexico)

The micro gas turbine propulsion systems represent a good choice for the unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs). The present work monitors the engine parameters, correlating them with other important engine instrumentation data. The aim of this research was to study the operation of the jet CAT using various types of fuels under various operating conditions: normal acceleration and sudden acceleration. The measured parameters were monitored under different conditions:(A) engine operation at two different ambient temperatures – outdoor at 0oC and inside at 19oC; and(b) Using 4 fuel types: kerosene, diesel fuel, kerosene with 5% gasoline and kerosene with 10% gasoline. The relevance of this work is given by the fact that a detailed analysis is performed for the idle regime. The paper will present the detailed test plan used and the most relevant charts with the obtained results for: start time, force, temperature before turbine, fuel flow, depending on micro turbo engine speed.

Test-Retest Reliability of Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging Activation for a Vergence eye Movement Task

Vergence eye movements are the inward and outward rotation of the eyes responsible for binocular *** studies have mapped and investigated the neural substrates of vergence,it is not well understood whether vergence eye movements evoke the blood oxygen level-dependent signal reliably in separate experimental *** test-retest reliability of stimulus-induced vergence eye movement tasks during a functional magnetic resonance imaging(fMRI)experiment is important for future randomized clinical trials(RCTs).In this study,we established region of interest(ROI)masks for the vergence neural ***-seven binocularly normal young adults participated in two functional imaging sessions measured on different days on the same 3 T Siemens *** fMRI experiments used a block design of sustained visual fixation and rest blocks interleaved between task blocks that stimulated eight or four vergence eye *** test-retest reliability of task-activation was assessed using the intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC),and that of spatial extent was assessed using the Dice *** activation during the vergence eye movement task of eight movements compared to rest was repeatable within the primary visual cortex(ICC=0.8),parietal eye fields(ICC=0.6),supplementary eye field(ICC=0.5),frontal eye fields(ICC=0.5),and oculomotor vermis(ICC=0.6).The results demonstrate significant test-retest reliability in the ROIs of the vergence neural substrates for functional activation magnitude and spatial extent using the stimulus protocol of a task block stimulating eight vergence eye movements compared to sustained *** ROIs can be used in future longitudinal RCTs to study patient populations with vergence dysfunctions.

bACKGROUND Quality control in colon cancer surgery is an ongoing debate ever since standardization proved to be highly efficient in improving survival in rectal cancer. Complete mesocolic excision(CMe) is widely acclaimed as the new goldstandard in colon cancer resections, thus it is imperative to establish quality criteria of CMe in order to make it easily understood and verified by surgeons worldwide. One simple and reproducible tool could be the measurement of arterial stumps postoperatively and a straightforward way to test its reliability is to test it in a comparative study between CMe and non-CMe *** To validate arterial stump measurement as a surgical quality tool by comparing CMe with conventional radical *** This was a retrospective study, carried out on a prospective database. We collected data from two groups of patients, divided according to standard CMe with D2 central vascular ligation(group A) and non-standardized surgery(group b). The two groups were compared with regard to the arterial stump length after right-and left-sided colectomies for colon cancer. The actual stump lengths of the ileocolic artery(ICA) and inferior mesenteric artery(IMA) were compared with their theoretical best D2 position of predicted ligation levels(D2 PLLs) for calculating the potential for improvement. Measurements on follow-up computed tomography scans were carried out by three observers. Pathological data were recorded(specimen length, lymph node yield) and correlated with stump *** We analysed 58 colectomies. The stump lengths(mean ± SD) in group A were16.97 ± 4.77 mm for ICA and 31.70 ± 15.71 mm for IMA, whereas group b had 49.93 ± 20.29 mm for ICA and 67.24 ± 28.71 mm for IMA.
