Although the degree of mate competition, given extreme differences in sex ratio, explains much of the pattern of male-biased size dimorphism among diverse taxa, it fails for some species which have potential for intense male competition for mates and yet exhibit little or no sexual size dimorphism （SSD）. This fact suggest that species with low SSD should be express the effect of evolutionary pressure in non-obvious geometrical shape promoted by sex ratio in an evolutionary time scale. To evaluate this hypothesis we used phylogenetic comparative method in a bayesian framework to investigate the evolution of SSD and the role of sex ratio at inter-specific level in the species of Ceroglossus （Coleoptera： Carabidae）. In our results the proportion farthest from 1：1 is associated with more disparate body shape, even though the entire group has minimum variation in sex ratio, which is an intrinsic life history character of this group considering its phylogenetic conservatism or phylogenetic signal. We suggest that the sex ratio has determined the dimorphism degree during evolution of this group, since both traits have increased or decreased together during the species divergence （i.e. positive phylogenetic correlation： r2=0.85）. We suggest that morphological studies of SSD will benefit from using comparative method with bayesian approaches to assess the effect of phylogenetic history and its uncertainty. Finally, this will be allow to researchers to quantify the uncertainty of specific evolutionary hypotheses accounting for observed sexual dimorphism patterns.

Degenerate Nonlinear Elliptic Equations Lacking in Compactness

In this paper, the authors prove the existence of solutions for degenerate elliptic equations of the form-div(a(x)▽_p u(x)) = g(λ, x, |u|^(p-2)u) in R^N, where ▽_pu =|▽u|^(p-2)▽u and a(x) is a degenerate nonnegative weight. The authors also investigate a related nonlinear eigenvalue problem obtaining an existence result which contains information about the location and multiplicity of eigensolutions. The proofs of the main results are obtained by using the critical point theory in Sobolev weighted spaces combined with a Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg-type inequality and by using a specific minimax method, but without making use of the Palais-Smale condition.

Jet CAT P80 Thermal Analyses and Performance Assessment Using Different Fuels Types

The micro gas turbine propulsion systems represent a good choice for the unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs). The present work monitors the engine parameters, correlating them with other important engine instrumentation data. The aim of this research was to study the operation of the Jet CAT using various types of fuels under various operating conditions: normal acceleration and sudden acceleration. The measured parameters were monitored under different conditions:(A) Engine operation at two different ambient temperatures – outdoor at 0oC and inside at 19oC; and(b) Using 4 fuel types: kerosene, diesel fuel, kerosene with 5% gasoline and kerosene with 10% gasoline. The relevance of this work is given by the fact that a detailed analysis is performed for the idle regime. The paper will present the detailed test plan used and the most relevant charts with the obtained results for: start time, force, temperature before turbine, fuel flow, depending on micro turbo engine speed.

Contribution of the IL-17/IL-23 axis to the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease

Inflammatory bowel diseases(IbDs) are chronic disorders of modern society, requiring management strategies aimed at prolonging an active life and establishing the exact etiology and *** idiopathic diseases have environmental, genetic,immunologic, inflammatory, and oxidative stress components. On the one hand, recent advances have shown that abnormal immune reactions against the microorganisms of the intestinal flora are responsible for the inflammation in genetically susceptible individuals. On the other hand, in addition to T helper cell-type(Th) 1 and Th2 immune responses,other subsets of T cells, namely regulatory T cells and Th17 maintained by IL-23 are likely to develop IbD. IL-23 acts on innate immune system members and also facilitates the expansion and maintenance of Th17 cells. The IL-17/IL-23 axis is relevant in IbD pathogenesis both in human and experimental studies. Vergence eye movements are the inward and outward rotation of the eyes responsible for binocular *** studies have mapped and investigated the neural substrates of vergence,it is not well understood whether vergence eye movements evoke the blood oxygen level-dependent signal reliably in separate experimental *** test-retest reliability of stimulus-induced vergence eye movement tasks during a functional magnetic resonance imaging(fMRI)experiment is important for future randomized clinical trials(RCTs).In this study,we established region of interest(ROI)masks for the vergence neural ***-seven binocularly normal young adults participated in two functional imaging sessions measured on different days on the same 3 T Siemens *** fMRI experiments used a block design of sustained visual fixation and rest blocks interleaved between task blocks that stimulated eight or four vergence eye *** test-retest reliability of task-activation was assessed using the intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC),and that of spatial extent was assessed using the Dice *** activation during the vergence eye movement task of eight movements compared to rest was repeatable within the primary visual cortex(ICC=0.8),parietal eye fields(ICC=0.6),supplementary eye field(ICC=0.5),frontal eye fields(ICC=0.5),and oculomotor vermis(ICC=0.6).The results demonstrate significant test-retest reliability in the ROIs of the vergence neural substrates for functional activation magnitude and spatial extent using the stimulus protocol of a task block stimulating eight vergence eye movements compared to sustained *** ROIs can be used in future longitudinal RCTs to study patient populations with vergence dysfunctions.

Liquid crystal-templated chiral nanomaterials: from chiral plasmonics to circularly polarized luminescence

Chiral nanomaterials with intrinsic chirality or spatial asymmetry at the nanoscale are currently in the limelight of both fundamental research and diverse important technological applications due to their unprecedented physicochemical characteristics such as intense light-matter interactions, enhanced circular dichroism, and strong circularly polarized luminescence. Herein, we provide a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art advances in liquid crystal-templated chiral nanomaterials. The chiroptical properties of chiral nanomaterials are touched, and their fundamental design principles and bottom-up synthesis strategies are discussed. Different chiral functional nanomaterials based on liquid-crystalline soft templates, including chiral plasmonic nanomaterials and chiral luminescent nanomaterials, are systematically introduced, and their underlying mechanisms, properties, and potential applications are emphasized. This review concludes with a perspective on the emerging applications, challenges, and future opportunities of such fascinating chiral nanomaterials. This review can not only deepen our understanding of the fundamentals of soft-matter chirality, but also shine light on the development of advanced chiral functional nanomaterials toward their versatile applications in optics, biology, catalysis, electronics, and beyond.

bACKGROUND Quality control in colon cancer surgery is an ongoing debate ever since standardization proved to be highly efficient in improving survival in rectal cancer. Complete mesocolic excision(CME) is widely acclaimed as the new goldstandard in colon cancer resections, thus it is imperative to establish quality criteria of CME in order to make it easily understood and verified by surgeons worldwide. One simple and reproducible tool could be the measurement of arterial stumps postoperatively and a straightforward way to test its reliability is to test it in a comparative study between CME and non-CME *** To validate arterial stump measurement as a surgical quality tool by comparing CME with conventional radical *** This was a retrospective study, carried out on a prospective database. We collected data from two groups of patients, divided according to standard CME with D2 central vascular ligation(group A) and non-standardized surgery(group b). The two groups were compared with regard to the arterial stump length after right-and left-sided colectomies for colon cancer. The actual stump lengths of the ileocolic artery(ICA) and inferior mesenteric artery(IMA) were compared with their theoretical best D2 position of predicted ligation levels(D2 PLLs) for calculating the potential for improvement. Measurements on follow-up computed tomography scans were carried out by three observers. Pathological data were recorded(specimen length, lymph node yield) and correlated with stump *** We analysed 58 colectomies. The stump lengths(mean ± SD) in group A were16.97 ± 4.77 mm for ICA and 31.70 ± 15.71 mm for IMA, whereas group b had 49.93 ± 20.29 mm for ICA and 67.24 ± 28.71 mm for IMA. Shorter lengths were obtained in group A, by a mean difference of 35.66 mm(χ~2 = 27.38, P < 0.001),which was significant for all types of colectomies.
