One-Dimensional Nonlinear Laplacians under a 3-Point Boundary Condition

We consider a three-point boundary value problem for operators such as the one-dimensional p-Laplacian, and show when they have solutions or not, and how many. The inverse operators are given by various formulas involving zeros of a real-valued function. They are shown to be orderpreserving, for some parameter values, and non-singleton valued for others. The operators are shown to be m-dissipative in the space of continuous functions.

Hydrology,roadway traffic conditions,and atmospheric deposition are three essential data categories for the planning and implementation of highway-runoff monitoring and characterization *** variables pertaining to each data category could be site specific but have been shown to correlate with runoff pollutant *** data categories were combined to derive statistical relationships for characterization and prioritization of the respective pollutant loads at highway runoff *** runoff data of total suspended solids(Tss),total dissolved solid(TDs),chemical oxygen demand(COD),total Kjeldahl nitrogen(TKN)and total phosphorus(TP)collected from three highway sites in Charlotte,North Carolina,UsA,were used to illustrate the development of site-specific highway-runoff pollutant loading *** unified methodology provides a basis for initial assessment of the pollutant-constituent loads from highway runoff using hydrologic component *** reliability is achievable when additional traffic and/or atmospheric component variables are incorporated into the basic hydrologic regression *** addition,operational guidance is suggested for implementing highway-runoff monitoring programs that are subject to sampling and resources constraints.

Microplastic particles smaller than 5 mm in size are of increasing concem, especially in aquatic environments, such as the ocean. Primary source is microbeads （〈 1 mm） used in cosmetics and cleaning agents and fiber fragments from washing of clothes, and secondary source such as broken down plastic litter and debris. These particles are mostly made from polyethylene （PE）, polypropylene （PP）, polystyrene （Ps）, polyethylene terephthalate （PET） and polyesters. They are ingested by diverse marine fauna, including zooplanktons, mussel, oyster, shrimp, fish etc. and can enter human food chains via several pathways. strategy for control of microplastics pollution should primarily focus on source reduction and subsequently on the development of cost-effective clean up and remediation technologies. Recent research results on biodegradation of plastics have revealed a potential for microbial biodegradation and bioremediation of plastic pollutants, such as PE, Ps and PET under appropriate conditions.

Nitric oxide reductases(NORs)have a central role in denitrification,detoxification of nitric oxide(NO)in host-pathogen interactions,and NO-mediated cell-cell *** this study,we focus on the phylogeny and detection of qNOR and cNOR genes because of their nucleotide sequence similarity and evolutionary relatedness to cytochrome oxidases,their key role in denitrification,and their abundance in natural,agricultural,and wastewater *** also include nitric oxide dismutase(NOD)due to its similarity to *** 548 nor sequences from publicly accessible databases and sequenced isolates from N2O-producng bioreactors,we constructed phylogenetic trees for 289 qnor/nod genes and 259 cnorB *** trees contain evidence of horizontal gene transfer and gene duplication,with 13.4%of the sequenced strains containing two or more nor *** aligning amino acid sequences for qnor+cnor,qnor,and cnor,we identified four highly conserved regions for NOR and NOD,including two highly conserved histidine residues at the active site for qNOR and *** this approach,we identified conserved sequences for:1)all nor(nor-universal);2)all qnor(qnor-universal)and all cnor(cnor-universal);3)qnor of Comamonadaceae;4)Clade-specific sequences;and 5)nod of Candidates Methylomirabilis *** of primer performance were confirmed experimentally.

In the age of real-time online traffic information and GPs-enabled devices,fastest-path computations between two points in a road network modeled as a directed graph,where each directed edge is weighted by a“travel time”value,are becoming a standard feature of many navigation-related *** support this,very efficient computation of these paths in very large road networks is *** paths may be computed as minimal-cost paths in a weighted directed graph,but traditional minimal-cost path algorithms based on variants of the classical Dijkstra algorithm do not scale well,as in the worst case they may traverse the entire graph.A common improvement,which can dramatically reduce the number of graph vertices traversed,is the A*algorithm,which requires a good heuristic lower bound on the minimal *** introduce a simple,but very effective,heuristic function based on a small number of values assigned to each graph *** values are based on graph separators and are computed efficiently in a preprocessing *** present experimental results demonstrating that our heuristic provides estimates of the minimal cost superior to those of other *** experiments show that when used in the A*algorithm,this heuristic can reduce the number of vertices traversed by an order of magnitude compared to other heuristics.
