It is well known that the entanglement of a quantum state is invariant under local unitary *** rule dictates,for example,that the entanglement of internal degrees of freedom of a photon remains invariant during free-space ***,we outline a scenario in which this paradigm does not *** local Bell states engineered from classical vector vortex beams with non-separable degrees of freedom,the so-called classically entangled states,we demonstrate that the entanglement evolves during propagation,oscillating between maximally entangled(purely vector)and product states(purely scalar).We outline the spin–orbit interaction behind these novel propagation dynamics and confirm the results experimentally,demonstrating spin–orbit coupling in paraxial *** demonstration highlights a hitherto unnoticed property of classical entanglement and simultaneously offers a device for the on-demand delivery of vector states to targets,for example,for dynamic laser materials processing,switchable resolution within stimulated emission depletion(STED)systems,and a tractor beam for entanglement.

The compound eyes of the wingless adults of the Madagascar ＇hissing cockroach＇ Gromphadorhinaportentosa Sachum, 1853 were examined by light and electron microscopy. Each eye contains 2 400-2 500 mostly hexagonal facets. However, irregularities affecting both shape and size of the ommatidia are relatively common, especially towards the margins of the eye. An individual ommatidium of this eucone type of apposition eye contains eight retinula cells, which give rise to a centrally-fused, tiered rhabdom. The distal end of the latter is funnel-shaped and accommodates the proximal end of the cone in its midst, Further below, the rhabdom （then formed by the rhabdomeres of four retinula cells） assumes a squarish profile with microvilli aligned in two directions at right-angle to each other. Cross sections through the proximal regions of the rhabdom display triangular rhabdom outlines and microvilli （belonging to 3-4 retinula cells different from those involved in the squarish more distal rhabdom） that run in three directions inclined to one another by 120°. Overall the organization of the eye conforms to the orthopteroid pattern and particularly closely resembles that of the American cockroach Periplaneta americana. However, since G. portentosa possesses fewer ommatidia, this could be a consequence of its inability to fly. On the other hand, the large size of the facets and the voluminous rhabdoms suggest considerable absolute sensitivity and an ability to detect the plane of linearly polarized light. Based on the pattern of microvillus orientations in combination with the crepuscular lifestyle G. portentosa leads and the habitat it occurs in, the prediction is made that this insect uses its green receptors for e-vector discrimination in the environment of down-welling light that reaches the forest floor.

Belsey Mark IV Repair for Recurrent Hiatal Hernia and Failed Fundoplication: An Analysis of Outcomes in 206 Patients

Background: With the increasing number of laparoscopic fundoplications, many more patients with a failed primary antireflux operation are being referred for complex redo procedures. The objective of this study was to evaluate our results of redo antireflux surgery using the Belsey Mark IV (BMIV) Repair. Methods: A retrospective analysis of the patients who underwent BMIV repair following a failed fundoplication was performed. The primary endpoint was failure of the redo procedure and recurrent hiatal hernia. Secondary endpoints were assessment of the functional results of the redo fundoplication and quality of life with a Dysphagia Score, and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease-Health-Related Quality of Life (GERD-HRQOL) questionnaire. Results: 206 patients underwent surgery for failed primary fundoplication. Most patients had one prior antireflux surgery 148/206 (71.8%). The most common primary failed fundoplication was the Nissen procedure (189/206, 91.7%). The median time from the prior operation to the redo operation was 34 months. Median follow-up was 25.6 months. The Dysphagia score decreased from 3.6 ± 0.5 preoperatively to 1.0 ± 0.4 postoperatively (p < 0.0001). At the time of follow-up, the Median GERD-HRQL score was 4 (range 0 - 9), classified as excellent, compared to a preoperative Median GERD-HRQL score of 43 (range 41 - 50) which was classified as poor. (p < 0.0001). There was no recurrence of the hiatal hernia. Conclusion: Complete takedown and reestablishment of the normal anatomy, recognition of a short esophagus, and proper placement of the wrap are essential components of a redo antireflux procedure. The BMIV repair as the choice of reopertaive procedure results in excellent symptom relief, significant improvement in quality of life, and is associated with excellent medium-term durability in terms of recurrence of the hiatal hernia.

Background: Historically, the pathophysiology of Hiatal Hernias (HH) has not been fully understood. As a result, the surgical therapy of HH has focused primarily on gastrointestinal symptoms and Gastroesophageal Reflux (GERD). This treatment strategy has been associated with poor relief of symptoms and poor long-term outcomes. In fact, until recently, most patients with HH have been watched and referred for surgery as a last resort. Recent experience has shown that a large (giant) Hiatal Hernia (GHH) is a common problem known to impact adjacent organs such as the hearts and lungs. Those referred for surgical repair often complain of dyspnea, which is erroneously attributed to pulmonary compression or aspiration, but has been shown to be from tamponade caused from compression of the heart by herniated abdominal contents. This article reviews the present understanding of GHH, the cardiac complications which result from GHH, and the most advanced robotic minimally invasive surgical approach to the anatomic and physiologic repair of GHH. Methods: In a prospective cohort study, we evaluated patients undergoing RRHH with at least a 2-year follow-up. All patients undergoing elective (RRHH) were identified preoperatively and enrolled prospectively in this study. Preoperative characteristics, medical comorbidities, and clinical information were all recorded prospectively and recorded into a secure surgical outcomes database. All patients received the previously validated Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease-Health-Related Quality of Life (GERD-HRQL) questionnaire preoperatively and at postoperative time points of 1 month, 1 year, and 2 years. Patients routinely had a barium swallow postoperatively before discharge but did not undergo a barium swallow, an endoscopy, or a CT scan study at the 1-month time point unless indicated by symptoms. Background: One main purpose of the World Anti-Doping Agency was to harmonize anti-doping efforts, including the provision of anti-doping education. A multifaceted approach to doping prevention can play a key role in preventing intentional and unintentional doping. This article aimed to systematically record and evaluate doping prevention approaches in the form of information and education activities of national antidoping organizations(NADOs) and assess the extent to which a multifaceted doping prevention approach has been ***: Data on anti-doping information and education activities of 53 NADOs were collected via a survey and an online search of the NADOs' websites. Prevention activities were classified into knowledge focused, affective focused, social skills, life skills, and ethic-and *** implementation of the prevention activities was assessed by 4 independent raters using a modified visual analogue ***: In total, 59% of the NADOs(n = 38) returned the survey and 70%(n = 45) had information available online. The data were combined for the visual analogue scale assessment. Overall, 58% of the NADOs(n = 37) reported offering activities including elements of all 5 *** of the raters' assessments indicated that the knowledge-focused approach was best implemented;the implementation of the other 4 approaches was largely unsatisfactory. The most common barriers to implementing doping prevention programs reported by the NADOs were lack of resources(n = 26) and difficulties in collaborating with sports organizations(n = 8).Conclusion: Results show a discrepancy between NADOs' self-report data and the implementation assessment. Even though the NADOs indicated otherwise, most of their education-based approaches did not address aspects of the visual analogue scale(e.g., resisting peer pressure) and only a few programs were ongoing. This article proposes a novel framework for the recognition of six universal facial *** framework is based on three sets of features extracted from a face image:entropy,brightness,and local binary ***, saliency maps are obtained using the state-of-the-art saliency detection algorithm "frequency-tuned salient region detection".The idea is to use saliency maps to determine appropriate weights or values for the extracted features (i.e.,brightness and entropy).We have performed a visual experiment to validate the performance of the saliency detection algorithm against the human visual *** movements of 15 subjects were recorded using an eye-tracker in free-viewing conditions while they watched a collection of 54 videos selected from the Cohn-Kanade facial expression *** results of the visual experiment demonstrated that the obtained saliency maps are consistent with the data on human ***,the performance of the proposed framework is demonstrated via satisfactory classification results achieved with the Cohn-Kanade database,FG-NET FEED database, and Dartmouth database of children's faces.

Starting in December 2019,COVID-19 had been spreading across the world on a limited scale for a quarter until March 2020 when the death toll in the countries comprising the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN)finally started to ***,despite the relatively late outbreak in the region,the ASEAN market had already plunged along with other regional markets across the world amid heightened concern about the economic impact of the biggest viral killer in *** this paper,we examine the economic impact of coronavirus on different ASEAN countries separately by analysing their respective economic figures for the first two quarters in *** allows us to delineate the overall picture of its impact on ASEAN countries as well as to provide an estimation for the future outlook of the ASEAN economic *** propose that the slowing growth,the sluggish recovery of trade and the cross-country transmission of unemployment are three significant risk factors that the ASEAN economies are faced with.
