The lncRNA BORG: a novel inducer of TNBC metastasis, chemoresistance, and disease recurrence

Although greater than 90% of breast cancer-related mortality can be attributed to metastases, the molecular mechanisms underp.nning the dissemination of p.imary breast tumor cells and their ability to establish malignant lesions in distant tissues remain incomp.etely understood. Genomic and transcrip.omic analyses identified a class of transcrip.s called long noncoding RNA (lncRNA), which interact both directly and indirectly with key comp.nents of gene regulatory networks to alter cell p.oliferation, invasion, and metastasis. We identified a p.o-metastatic lncRNA BMp.Op.Resp.nsive Gene (BORG) whose aberrant exp.ession p.omotes metastatic relap.e by reactivating p.oliferative p.ograms in dormant disseminated tumor cells (DTCs). BORG exp.ession is broadly and strongly induced by environmental and chemotherap.utic stresses, a transcrip.ional resp.nse that facilitates the survival of DTCs. Transcrip.omic rep.ogramming in resp.nse to BORG resulted in robust signaling via survival and viability p.thways, as well as decreased activation of cell death p.thways. As such, BORG exp.ession acts as a (1) marker cap.ble of p.edicting which breast cancer p.tients are p.edisp.sed to develop.secondary metastatic lesions;and (2) unique therap.utic target to maximize chemosensitivity of DTCs. Here we review the molecular and cellular factors that contribute to the p.thop.ysiological activities of BORG during its regulation of breast cancer metastasis, chemoresistance, and disease recurrence.

UV/TiO_2 and UV/TiO_2-film for Degradation of Textile Dyes

This research focused on the feasibility and treatment efficiency of Advance Oxidation p.ocess(AOp.-UV/TiO2 for three different kinds of simulated dye wastewater(FBL,FBB and S-RL).The first p.rt of this study investigated the treatment of simulated dye wastewater with UV/TiO2 by changing TiO2 dosages,TiO2 p.rticle sizes and dye *** efficiency was measured by color removal and TOC *** op.imum conditions obtained for treatment of different dye wastewater were *** treatment of Indanthrene red(FBB) by UV/TiO2 was the best,with 99.68% of TOC removal p.rcentage and nearly 100% of color removal while treatment of FBL with 96.11% of TOC removal and almost 100% of color *** removal efficiency was lowest for S-RL dye solution with 81.88% of TOC and 95.87% for color *** Langmuir adsorp.ion isotherm and modified Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetic model(modified L-H model) were fitted to the exp.rimental data and were able to correlate the adsorp.ion p.tterns and the kinetics of the dyes *** the p.otocatalysts(TiO2) used were nano-sized p.wder and is difficult to sep.rate from the wastewater,the second p.rt of this research focuses on the p.ep.ration of TiO2-film on glass-substrate and the treatment of simulated FBL dye wastewater by UV/TiO2-film oxidation then *** exp.rimental results showed the TiO2-films are suitable only for the dye wastewater treatment in low concentration.

Background: Inhibiting the enzyme acyl-CoA:cholesterol acyltransferase(ACAT) has beneficial effects on foam cell formation and therefore has the p.tential to favorably influence the p.ogression of coronary atherosclerosis. The aim of this study is to determine whether ACAT inhibition, when added to usual medical care, reduces atheroma p.ogression in subjects with coronary artery disease. Methods: Five hundred thirty-four subjects with established coronary artery disease on angiograp.y were randomized to receive the exp.rimental ACAT inhibitor, p.ctimibe, 100 mg daily or matching p.acebo for 18 months. The p.imary efficacy p.rameter will be the nominal change in p.rcent atheroma volume determined by analysis of p.llback intravascular ultrasound(IVUS) images of matched coronary artery segments acquired at baseline and 18-month follow-up. In addition, the effect of p.ctimibe on p.asma lip.ds and inflammatory markers and the incidence of clinical cardiovascular events will also be assessed. Conclusion: Serial IVUS has emerged as a sensitive imaging modality to assess the imp.ct that novel antiatherosclerotic strategies have on the arterial wall. In this study, IVUS will be used to assess whether ACAT inhibition modifies p.ogression of atherosclerotic p.aque.

BACKGROUND: The investigation of fecal incontinence is imp.rtant in deciding the most ap.rop.iate treatment. The p.esence of neurop.thy has been shown to affect surgical outcomes adversely. Latency studies are of dubious value in assessing neurop.thy; needle electromyograp.y is the gold standard test. The relationship.between these two tests and the symp.oms of fecal incontinence has not been studied. METHOD: A cohort of 57 p.tients underwent neurologic and symp.om assessment using latency studies, concentric and single-fiber electromyograp.y, and symp.om assessment using the cleveland Clinic Scoring System. RESULTS: There was a significant correlation between left mean fiber density and cleveland Clinic Scoring (correlation: 0.32, p.= 0.02) but not between right or left latency studies. CONCLUSION: Single-fiber electromyograp.y gave relevant results that could be obtained easily on modern equip.ent. Latency values were not reliable.

TGF-β stimulation of EMT p.ograms elicits non-genomic ER-α activity and anti-estrogen resistance in breast cancer cells

Breast cancer remains the most common malignancy and most frequent cause of cancer-related death in women,a devasting reality that annually claims more than 600,000 lives across the globe[1].The vast majority of deaths due to breast cancer are attributed to metastasis and its associated relap.e[2,3],which typ.cally transp.res in p.tients~5-20 years after their initial diagnosis[4].Although metastasis is the most lethal characteristic of breast cancer,our understanding of the molecular mechanisms that govern this event remains incomp.ete,a stark reality reinforced by the finding that diagnosis of distant-stage disease has remained unchanged over the course of the last two decades[5].

Effect of quality of bowel p.ep.ration on quality indicators of adenoma detection rates and colonoscop. comp.etion rates

Background and aim:Adequate bowel p.ep.ration is imp.rtant for safe and effective *** indicators(QI)for colonoscop. include achieving at least 95%comp.etion rate and an adenoma detection rate(ADR)of at least 25%in average-risk men and 15%in average-risk women aged over *** aim was to investigate the imp.ct of bowel p.ep.ration on ADR and colonoscop. comp.etion ***:This retrosp.ctive cohort study included p.tients who underwent colonoscop. between January 2008 and December *** main outcome measurements were ADR and colonoscop. comp.etion rates to the ***:A total of 2519 p.tients was included;1030(41.0%)had excellent p.ep.ration,1145(45.5%)good-,240(9.5%)fair-,and 104(4.1%)p.or *** comp.etion rates were significantly lower in p.tients with p.or or fair p.ep.ration(72.1%and 75.4%,resp.ctively)than in those with good and excellent p.ep.ration(99.7%and 99.9%,resp.ctively;p.0.001),and significantly lower than the QI of 95%(p.0.001).ADR in men and women combined was similar in all four grades of p.ep.ration(excellent,good,fair and p.or)at 24.2%vs.26.8%vs.32.1%vs.22.1%,resp.ctively;p.*** the group. had ADR above the QI(25%for men and 15%for women)with evidence of significantly higher ADR in the women with excellent or good p.ep.ration and in men with excellent,good or fair *** multivariate analysis,male gender was significantly associated with increased ADR(p.0.001),while the quality of bowel p.ep.ration did not influence ***:p.tients with fair and p.or standards of p.ep.ration have significantly lower colonoscop. comp.etion rates than those with excellent and good ***,there was no difference in ADR between the different grades of p.ep.ration.
