Enhanced performance in the direct electrocatalytic synthesis of ammonia from N2 and H2O by an in-situ electrochemical activation of CNT-supported iron oxide nanoparticles

The direct electrocatalytic synthesis of ammonia from N2 and H2O by using renewable energy sources and ambient pressure/temperature operations is a breakthrough technology,which can reduce by over 90%the greenhouse gas emissions of this chemical and energy storage *** report here an in-situ electrochemical activation method to prepare Fe2O3-CNT(iron oxide on carbon nanotubes)electrocatalysts for the direct ammonia synthesis from N2 and *** in-situ electrochemical activation leads to a large increase of the ammonia formation rate and Faradaic efficiency which reach the surprising high values of 41.6μg mgcat^−1 h^−1 and 17%,respectively,for an in-situ activation of 3 h,among the highest values reported so far for non-precious metal catalysts that use a continuous-flow polymer-electrolytemembrane cell and gas-phase operations for the ammonia synthesis *** electrocatalyst was stable at least 12 h at the working *** by switching N2 to Ar evidence that ammonia was formed from the gas-phase *** analysis of the changes of reactivity and of the electrocatalyst characteristics as a function of the time of activation indicates a linear relationship between the ammonia formation rate and a specific XPS(X-ray-photoelectron spectroscopy)oxygen signal related to O2−in iron-oxide *** results together with characterization data by TEM and XRD suggest that the iron species active in the direct and selective synthesis of ammonia is a maghemite-type iron oxide,and this transformation from the initial hematite is responsible for the in-situ enhancement of 3-4 times of the TOF(turnover frequency)and NH3 Faradaic *** transformation is likely related to the stabilization of the maghemite species at CNT defect sites,although for longer times of preactivation a sintering occurs with a loss of performances.

Malus x domestica microRNA MdmiR285N is a potential key regulator of plant immunity,as it has been predicted to target 35 RNA transcripts coding for different disease resistance proteins involved in plant defense to *** this study,the promoter region of MdmiR285N was isolated from the apple genome and analyzed in silico to detect potential regulatory regions controlling its transcription.A complex network of putative regulatory elements involved in plant growth and development,and in response to different hormones and stress conditions,was *** of theβ-Glucoronidase(GUS)reporter gene driven by the promoter of MdmiR285N was examined in transgenic apple,demonstrating that MdmiR285N was expressed during the vegetative growth ***,in transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana,spatial and temporal patterns of GUS expression revealed that MdmiR285N was differentially regulated during seed germination,vegetative phase change,and reproductive *** elucidate the role of MdmiR285N in plant immunity,MdmiR285N expression in wild-type apple plants and GUS activity in transgenic apple and Arabidopsis thaliana plants were monitored in response to Erwinia amylovora and Pseudomonas syringae *** DC3000.A significant decrease of MdmiR285N levels and GUS expression was observed during host-pathogen ***,these data suggest that MdmiR285N is involved in the biotic stress response,plant growth,and reproductive development.

The effect of reforestation on carbon sequestration has been extensively studied but there is less understanding of the changes that stand age and vegetation types have on changes in biomass carbon and soil organic carbon(SOC)after *** this study,150 reforested plots were sampled across six provinces and one municipality in the Yangtze River Basin(YRB)during 2017 and 2018 to estimate carbon storage in biomass and *** results illustrate that site-averaged SOC was greater than site-averaged biomass *** was more carbon sequestered in the biomass than in the *** carbon accumulated rapidly in the initial 20 years after *** contrast,SOC sequestration increased rapidly after 20 *** addition,evergreen species had higher carbon density in both biomass and soil than deciduous species and economic species(fruit trees).Carbon sequestration in evergreen and deciduous species is greater than in economic *** findings provide new evidence on the divergent responses of biomass and soil to carbon sequestration after reforestation with respect to stand ages and vegetation *** study provides relevant information for ecosystem management as well as for carbon sequestration and global climate change policies.

Calibration and validation of a simulation model for predicting pedestrian fatalities at unsignalized crosswalks by means of statistical traffic data

This work presents a simulation model for unsignalized crosswalks which takes into account collisions between vehicles and pedestrians,thus allowing to assess the estimated yearly pedestrian *** particular,we focus on a method to calibrate such a model combining measurable crosswalk characteristics,such as maximum speed limit or drivers’compliance,with statistical data for past accidents obtained from local *** order to perform simulations under realistic conditions,we constructed a one-week scenario where pedestrian and vehicle traffic vary using specific patterns each hour of the *** constructed traffic profile is based on openly available data and the suitability for the scenario considered(a crosswalk in Milan,Italy)is investigated showing that cultural/lifestyle elements determine the variation of weekly *** using the constructed one-week scenario were used to obtain the only non-measurable parameter which account for pedestrians’and drivers’*** addition,we also focused on the presence of elderly pedestrians which have different physiological characteristics compared to adults or children and are becoming an important part of the population in several countries around the *** simulation model presented here and the method suggested for calibration may be employed in different contexts,thus allowing to build an important tool to be used not only for transportation efficiency/optimization but also for safety analysis.

Currently,the industry is experiencing an exponential increase in dealing with binary-based combinatorial *** this sense,metaheuristics have been a common trend in the field in order to design approaches to solve them ***,a well-known strategy consists in the use of algorithms based on discrete swarms transformed to perform in binary *** the No Free Lunch theorem,we are interested in testing the performance of the Fruit Fly Algorithm,this is a bio-inspired metaheuristic for deducing global optimization in continuous spaces,based on the foraging behavior of the fruit fly,which usually has much better sensory perception of smell and vision than any other *** the other hand,the Set Coverage Problem is a well-known NP-hard problem with many practical applications,including production line balancing,utility installation,and crew scheduling in railroad and mass transit *** this paper,we propose different binarization methods for the Fruit Fly Algorithm,using Sshaped and V-shaped transfer functions and various discretization methods to make the algorithm work in a binary search *** are motivated with this approach,because in this way we can deliver to future researchers interested in this area,a way to be able to work with continuous metaheuristics in binary *** new approach was tested on benchmark instances of the Set Coverage Problem and the computational results show that the proposed algorithm is robust enough to produce good results with low computational cost.

We apply to the concrete setup of a bank engaged into bilateral trade portfolios the XVA theoretical framework of Albanese and Crepey(2017),whereby´so-called contra-liabilities and cost of capital are charged by the bank to its clients,on top of the fair valuation of counterparty risk,in order to account for the incompleteness of this *** transfer of the residual reserve credit capital from shareholders to creditors at bank default results in a unilateral CVA,consistent with the regulatory requirement that capital should not diminish as an effect of the sole deterioration of the bank credit *** funding cost for variation margin(FVA)is defined asymmetrically since there is no benefit in holding excess capital in the *** is fungible as a source of funding for variation margin,causing a material FVA *** introduce a specialist initial margin lending scheme that drastically reduces the funding cost for initial margin(MVA).Our capital valuation adjustment(KVA)is defined as a risk premium,*** cost of remunerating shareholder capital at risk at some hurdle rate.

Cardiac toxicity of trastuzumab in elderly patients with breast cancer

Breast cancer （BC） is diagnosed in 〉 65 year old women in about half of cases. Experts currently recommend that systemic therapy is offered to elderly patients with BC, if, based on their overall conditions and life expectancy, it can be reasonably anticipated that the benefits will outweigh the risks of treatment. Like for young subjects, the monoclonal antibody against human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 （HER-2）, trastuzumab, represents a valid therapeutic option when BC over-expresses this receptor. Unforttmately, administration of trastu- zumab is associated with the occurrence of left ventricular dysfunction and chronic heart failure （CHF）, possibly because of interference with the homeostatic functions of HER-2 in the heart. Registry-based, retrospective analyses have reported an incidence of CHF around 25% in elderly women receiving trastuzumab compared with 10%-15% in those not given any therapy for BC, and the risk of CHF has been estimated to be two-fold higher in 〉 60455 year old trastuzumab users vs. non-users. Extremely advanced age and preexisting cardiac disease have been shown to predispose to trastuzumab cardiotoxicity. Therefore, selection of older patients for treatment with trastuzumab should be primarily based on their general status and the presence of comorbidities; previous chemotherapy, especially with anthracyclines, should be also taken into account. Once therapy has started, efforts should be made to ensure regular cardiac surveillance. The role of selected biomarkers, such as cardiac troponin, or new imaging techniques （three-dimension, tissue Doppler echocardiography, magnetic resonance imaging） is promising, but must be further investigated especially in the elderly. Moreover, additional studies are needed in order to better understand the mechanisms by which trastuzumab affects the old heart.

Cataracting-centrifuging transition investigation using nonspherical and spherical particles in a rotary drum through CFD simulations

This paper aims to systematically investigate the cataracting-centrifuging transition in a rotary drum involving spherical and nonspherical particles by using the Multiphase Granular Eulerian Model(MGEM).The effects of drum length and particle shape on the cataracting-centrifuging transition behavior were *** results showed that drum length plays an important role in the cataracting-centrifuging transition,although most related works in the literature do not consider *** particle shape also significantly affects the cataracting-centrifuging transition *** particles required lower rotation speeds than spherical particles to reach the centrifuging *** particle shape was shown to be related to the critical solid fraction(asc)from Schaeffer’s model,although further investigations are required to completely correlate particle spherecity with critical solid volume fractions.
