Chemokines belong to a superfamily of small, cytokinelike proteins, which induce multiple physiological functions, particularly cytoskeletal rearrangement and compartment-specific migration through their interaction with G-protein-coupled receptors. Chemokines and their receptors have been widely acknowledged as essential and selective mediators in leukocyte migration in inflammatory response. It is now established that the chemokine/chemokine receptor system is also used by cancer cells to direct lymphatic and haematogenous spreading and additionally has an impact on the site of metastatic growth of different tumours. In recent years an increasing number of studies have drawn attention to CC-chemokine cysteine motif chemokine ligand 20(CCl20) and its physiological sole receptor CCR6 to play a role in the onset, development and metastatic spread of various gastrointestinal cancer entities. Among various cancer types CCR6 was also demonstrated to be significantly overexpressed in colorectal cancer(CRC) and stimulation by its physiological ligand CCl20 has been reported to promote CRC cell proliferation and migration in vitro. Further, the CCl20/CCR6 system apparently plays a role in the organ-selective liver metastasis of CRC. Here we review the literature on expression patterns of CCl20 and CCR6 and their physiological interactions as well as the currently presumed role of CCl20 and CCR6 in the formation of CRC and the development of liver metastasis, providing a potential basis for novel treatment strategies.

Acetylsalicylic Acid Administered in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Its Effect on the Antioxidant Enzyme System

Type 2 diabetes mellitus and its complications are associated with oxidative stress and the depletion of antioxidant defenses. The influence of acetylsalicylic acid on reversing the decrease in antioxidants, insulin resistance, glucose homeostasis, and inflammatory cascade can help prevent diabetes complications. Purpose: The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of acetylsalicylic acid on the antioxidant enzymatic system in patients with diabetes. Methods: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was carried out in 21 patients of both sexes with Type 2 diabetes for less than five years at the time of diagnosis, without pharmacological treatment, and randomly selected. Acetylsalicylic acid (300 mg) was administered orally for three months to the study group (n = 11) compared to the placebo control group (n = 10). Before and after the intervention, anthropometric and metabolic measurements were taken, fasting plasma glucose, glycated hemoglobin A1c, lipid profile panel, glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, catalase, and antioxidant capacity/activity were determined;values are presented as mean ± standard deviation. Intra- and intergroup differences were tested by Wilcoxon signed rank and Mann-Whitney U test, respectively;p-value ≤ 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The acetylsalicylic acid group showed a decrease in weight (85.6 ± 19.3 vs. 84.1 ± 19.0 kg p = 0.01), cholesterol (205.9 ± 16.6 vs. 186.0 ± 23.2 mg/dl p = 0.02), and glycated hemoglobin A1c (7.8% ± 0.9% vs. 7.0% ± 0.7% p = 0.02). The placebo group exhibited reduction in weight (76.1 ± 14.9 vs. 74.9 ± 15.0 kg p = 0.04), glycated hemoglobin A1c (6.9% ± 0.6% vs. 6.2% ± 0.4% p = 0.004), and total antioxidant capacity (4.1 ± 0.5 vs. 4.8 ± 0.3 mmol/l p = 0.002). Conclusion: The administration of acetylsalicylic acid did not modify the antioxidant enzyme system.

Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Activities of larrea Divaricata Cav. Aqueous Extract on Vitamin C from Natural Orange Juice

larrea divaricata Cav. is a South American plant widely distributed in Argentina with reported antioxidant and antim- icrobial activities. Vitamin C (Vit C) the most important water-soluble antioxidant, is degraded upon factors such as oxygen, heat, light, storage time and temperature, during cooking and in presence of microorganisms. The aim of this work was: to study the antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of an aqueous extract of l. divaricata (E) on Vit C pre- pared in water and on Vit C from natural orange juice, submitted to different store conditions such as temperatures and oxygen. The antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH method and used to obtained the relative Vit C concentra- tion;Vit C decreased its activity and concentration under temperature and air oxygen, but E allowed Vit C to recover its antioxidant activity and prevented Vit C microorganism contamination. These studies were performed in view to es- tablish whether l. divaricata can be used as a supplement on orange juices capable to prevent Vit C decay and micro- bial growth.

Interface Recombination &Emission Applied to Explain Photosynthetic Mechanisms for (e–, h+) Charges’ Separation

To copy natural photosynthesis process we need to understand and explain the physics underneath its first step mechanism, which is “how to separate electrical charges under attraction”. But this Nature’s nanotechnological creation is not yet available to the scientific community. We present a new interpretation for the artificial and natural photosynthetic mechanism, concerning the electrical charges separation and the spent energy to promote the process. Interface (e–, h+) recombination and emission is applied to explain the photosynthetic mechanisms. This interpretation is based on energy bands relative position, the staggered one, which under illumination promotes (e–, h+) charges separation through the action of an interface electric field and energy consumption at the interface of both A/B generic materials. Energy band bending is responsible by the interface electric field (and the driving force) for the charges separation. This electric field can be as high or above that for p-n semiconductor junctions (104 - 105 V/cm). This physical effect is not considered by most of the researches. Without an electric field and without spending energy to separate electrical charges, any other existing model violates physical laws. The staggered energy band type is the only energetic configuration that permits charges separation under illumination and energy loss to perform the process. Application to natural photosynthesis and artificial photovoltaic material and their energetic configurations are discussed. Examples for A/B being III-V/III-V, TiO2/materials and II-VI/II-VI staggered energy band gap pairs are presented. In the proposed quantum mechanism, plants are able to eliminate most of the 79% of the absorbed visible light, according to the published reflection and transmission data. Moreover, the proposed mechanism can be applied to explain green fluorescent protein - GFP, charge transfer states - CTS and Fluorescent Resonance Energy Transfer - FRET. As recent litera

Quantification of Thiamethoxam in Rhizomes and leaves of the Hedychium coronarium and Water and Soil by High-Pressure liquid Chromatography

The linearity, stability, accuracy and inter-day precisions of the assay method were evaluated in water, soil and rhizomes and leaves of Hedychium coronarium of the Zingiberaceae family. Mato Grosso do Sul is a predominantly agricultural state in Brazil and has many rivers and permanent and seasonal lakes, in which the Hedychium coronarium, an aquatic plant, is found the swampy environments. The prepared samples were analyzed quantitatively by High Performance liquid Chromatography with PDA and UV detection for the presence of thiamethoxam. The thiamethoxam was recovered from these samples at rates ranging from 81.16% - 99.93%. The coefficient of variation in the quantitative analysis of the thiamethoxam was under 5%. The linearity of the method was determined by linear regression. The analysis of the samples spiked with known amounts of analyte demonstrated that the response was proportional to the concentrations of the samples with determination coefficients of r2 = 0.9992 (water and soil) and r2 = 0.9990 (leaves and rhizomes) for the linear range of the analytical calibration curves of the samples. The detection limit was 0.36 μg.l-1 and quantification limit was 1.2 μg.l-1 for thiamethoxam. The method was considered sensitive for quantification of the thiamethoxam in water, soil and rhizomes and leaves of Hedychium coronarium.

双链DNA(dsDNA)定量分析是植物分子生物学研究的基础,对基因型分析尤为重要。本研究以λ噬菌体dsDNA为标准样品,建立了荧光定量标准曲线,探讨荧光核酸定量通量性及其与紫外法定量的差异,并分析荧光染料在基因分型中的应用。结果表明,荧光染料能够对dsDNA进行高效微量定量分析(l-1),但因鉴定核酸的浓度较低,对小麦籽粒和叶片全基因组DNA定量时稀释倍数较大,易增大浓度误差。降低反应体系量导致标准曲线决定系数降低,影响测量准确性。精确定量dsDNA浓度时,总反应体系应大于200ml;对PCR产物进行基因分型时,总反应体系应不低于40ml。相同DNA模板浓度下,FlUOstar平台可以对抗秆锈病基因显性标记csSr32#1(Sr32)和IB-267(Sr50)的PCR产物进行基因型分型,判断准确率为100%。对特异性强且等位基因片段差异大(≥100bp)的共显性标记,如抗叶锈病基因标记We173(Yr26)等,用荧光染料同样可以进行基因分型。与琼脂糖凝胶电泳相比,荧光染料鉴定等位基因价格略高,但方法简单、准确快速、重现性好,可用于分子育种中世代材料快速筛选。

A Critical Study of the Elastic Properties and Stability of Heusler Compounds: Phase Change and Tetragonal <i>X<sub>2</sub>YZ</i>Compounds

In the present work, the elastic constants and derived properties of tetragonal Heusler compounds were calculated using the high accuracy of the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FPlAPW) method. To find the criteria required for an accurate calculation, the consequences of increasing the numbers of k-points and plane waves on the convergence of the calculated elastic constants were explored. Once accurate elastic constants were calculated, elastic anisotropies, sound velocities, Debye temperatures, malleability, and other measurable physical properties were determined for the studied systems. The elastic properties suggested metallic bonding with intermediate malleability, between brittle and ductile, for the studied Heusler compounds. To address the effect of off-stoichiometry on the mechanical properties, the virtual crystal approximation (VCA) was used to calculate the elastic constants. The results indicated that an extreme correlation exists between the anisotropy ratio and the stoichiometry of the Heusler compounds, especially in the case of Ni2MnGa. Metastable cubic Ni2MnGa exhibits a very high anisotropy (≈28) and hypothetical cubic Rh2FeSn violates the Born-Huang stability criteria in the l21 structure. The bulk moduli of the investigated tetragonal compounds do not vary much (≈130 ...190 GPa). The averaged values of the other elastic moduli are also rather similar, however, rather large differences are found for the elastic anisotropies of the compounds. These are reflected in very different spatial distributions of Young’s moduli when comparing the different compounds. The slowness surfaces of the compounds also differ considerably even though the average sound velocities are in the same order of magnitude (3.2 ... 3.6 km/s). The results demonstrate the importance of the elastic properties not only for purely tetragonal Heusler compounds but also for phase change materials that exhibit magnetic shape memory or magnetocaloric effects.

全氟化合物是一种新型持久性有机污染物,污水处理厂是其一个主要污染来源。目前还没有建立起一种统一的污泥样品中全氟化合物的分析方法。本文报道了一种基于液相萃取和高效液相色谱-串联质谱联用技术测定污泥中的7种全氟烷基羧酸及其2种不饱和氟调酸前体物、2种全氟烷基磺酸及其5种磺酰胺衍生物前体物的方法。实验对萃取剂(甲醇)的pH值、超声萃取温度与时间、洗脱剂体积进行了优化,确定了中性溶剂、40℃下超声萃取10min,Envicarbon柱净化的前处理方法,并成功地应用于实际污泥样品中全氟化合物的测定。方法的回收率为74%～141%(不饱和氟调酸除外),线性范围为0.1～20μg/l(羧酸系列)及0.25～50μg/l(磺酸系列)内线性关系良好(r2>0.99),定量限为0.6～30μg/kg(干重)。内标物质的使用可有效消除环境基质引起的仪器离子抑制现象,使定量更加准确。

AIM To study the differences in immune response and cytokine profile between acute liver failure and selflimited acute *** Forty-six patients with self-limited acute hepatitis(AH), sixteen patients with acute liver failure(AlF), and twenty-two healthy subjects were involved in this study. The inflammatory and anti-inflammatory products in plasma samples were quantified using commercial enzyme-linked immunoassays and quantitative real-time PCR. The cellular immune responses were measured by proliferation assay using flow cytometry. The groups were divided into viral- and non-viral-induced selflimited AH and AlF. Thus, we worked with five groups: Hepatitis A virus(HAV)-induced self-limited acute hepatitis(HAV-AH), HAV-induced AlF(HAV-AlF), nonviral-induced self-limited acute hepatitis(non-viral AH), non-viral-induced acute liver failure(non-viral AlF), and healthy subjects(HC). Comparisons among HAV and non-viral-induced AH and AlF were *** The levels of mitochondrial DNA(mt DNA) and the cytokines investigated [interleukin(Il)-6, Il-8, Il-10, interferon gamma, and tumor necrosis factor] were significantly increased in AlF patients, independently of etiology(P lasma mt DNA and Il-10 were the best markers associated with AlF [mt DNA: OR = 320.5(95%CI: 14.42-7123.33), P l-10: OR = 18.8(95%CI: 1.38-257.94), P = 0.028] and death [mt DNA: OR = 12.1(95%CI: 2.57-57.07), P = 0.002; and Il-10: OR = 8.01(95%CI: 1.26-50.97), P = 0.027]. In the cellular proliferation assay, NK^(bright), NKT and regulatory T cells(TReg) predominated in virusspecific stimulation in HAV-induced AlF patients with an anergic behavior in the cellular response to mitotic stimulation. Therefore, in non-viral-induced AlF, anergic behavior of activated T cells was not observed after mitotic stimulation, as expected and as described by the literature.
