AIm:To investigate the polymorphic simple sequencerepeat in intron 1 of the epidermal growth factor receptorgene(EGFR)(CA-SSRⅠ),which is known to affect theefficiency of gene transcription as a putative target of themismatch repair(mmR)machinery in colorectal ***:The CA-SSRⅠgenotype was analyzed ina total of 86 primary colorectal tumors,selected upontheir microsatellite instability(mSI)status[42 with highfrequency mSI(mSI-H)and 44 microsatellite stable(mSS)]and their respective normal *** effect of the CA-SSRⅠgenotype on the expression of the EGFR gene wasevaluated in 18 specimens using quantitative real-timereverse transcription PCR and ***:mutations in CA-SSRⅠwere detected in 86%(36 of 42)of mSI-H colorectal tumors and 0%(0 of 44)ofmSS tumors,indicating the EGFR gene as a novel putativespecific target of the defective mmR system(Pmpaired expression of EGFR was detected in most ofthe colorectal tumors analyzed[6/12(50%)at the mRNAlevel and 15/18(83%)at the peptide level].However,noassociation was apparent between EGFR expression andCA-SSRⅠstatus in tumors or normal ***:Our results suggest that CA-SSRⅠsequence does not contribute to the regulation of EGFRtranscription in colon,and should thus not be consideredas a promising predictive marker for response to EGFRinhibitors in patients with colorectal cancer.

AIm To present clinical characteristics from renal transplant recipients with dengue fever and its impact on graft *** We retrospectively evaluated 11 renal transplant recipients(RTR) with dengue infection confirmed by laboratory test, between January 2007 and July 2012, transplanted in the Renal Transplant Center of Walter Cantídio University Hospital from Federal University of Ceará. RESULTS Positive dengue serology(Igm) was found in all patients. The mean time between transplant and dengue infection was 43 mo. Fever was presented in all patients. Nine patients presented with classical dengue and two(18%) with dengue hemorrhagic fever. All cases had satisfactory evolution with complete recovery of the symptoms. The time for symptom resolution varied from 2 to 20 d, with an average of 9 d. An increase of creatinine after the infection was observed in three(27.2%) patients with no clinically impact on the kidney graft function. CONCLUSION RTR with dengue infection seems to have a clinical presentation and evolution similar to those seen in the general population, with no long-term damage to patient and to the graft.

AIm:To evaluate the safety and efficacy of vitamin E in children with chronic hepatitis ***:We randomly assigned patients with chronic hepatitis B,positive for hepatitis B e antigen(HBeAg),to receive either vitamin E or placebo once daily for 6 mo in a 3:1 ratio and double-blind *** primary end point was HBeAg seroconversion,defined as the loss of HBeAg,undetectable levels of serum hepatitis B virus DNA,and the appearance of antibodies against HBeAg 12 mo after ***:At baseline visit,49 patients had normal and 43 had increased serum aminotransferase ***-nine patients did not respond to previous treatment with interferon-α or ***-six children completed the study;16 were non-compliant(n = 7),lost to follow-up(n = 7),or started another antiviral treatment(n = 3).Intention-to-treat analysis showed HBeAg seroconversion in 16 children(23.2%) treated with vitamin E and two(8.7%) in the placebo group(P = 0.13).Vitamin E was well ***:There is only a tendency that vitamin E may promote HBeAg *** larger studies are needed to clarify the role of antioxidants in the therapy of chronic hepatitis B.

Extraction of Soil Boron for Predicting Its Availability to Plants

Field and greenhouse studies were conducted in Prince Edward Island (P. E.I.) on soybean (Glycine max (L.) merr.), red clover (Trifolium *** L.), alfalfa (medieagn saliva L.), and rutabaga (Brassica napobrassica. mill). Plant B concentrations were compared to soil B extracted by hot-water, 0.05 m HCI, 1.5 m CH3COOH and 0.01 m CaCl2. The r values for extractable soil B vs. plant B were: hot water (0.67). 0.05 m HCl (0.82), 1.5 m CH3COOH (0.78) and hot 0.01 m CaCl2(0.61). Results of soil B from the 0.05 m HCl extracts were generally found to give the best correlation and linear regression among the four extractants tested for predicting the availability of B to the plants. Overall, the 0.05 m HCl proved to be superior to hot water extraction and is recommended for predicting the available B status of the acid soils of P. E. I. The probability of error with 0.05 m HCL is less since it is shaken for a fixed period of time as opposed to subjective error which could be caused in monitoring the boiling time using hot water.

metformin(met)is a drug developed for the treatment of patients with typeⅡ ***,met estimation in pharmaceutical formulations and human fluids has gained a growing *** extend requisite data that can be used to assessment of met quantitatively based on charge-transfer(CT)complexation,the present study describes the synthesis and characterization of CT complexes that formed between drug met and the organicπ-acceptors picric acid(PA),chloranilic acid(cla),chloranil(CHL),7,7',8,8'-tetracyanoquinodimethane(TCNQ),and dichlorodicyanobenzoquinone(DDQ).The properties of the formed CT complexes were investigated by elemental,spectral(UV-visible,IR,and Raman spectroscopies),thermal(TG)and morphological(SEm)*** results indicated that the complexation of met with either PA or cla acceptors occurs through proton transfer interaction,whereas its complexation with CHL,TCNQ,or DDQ acceptors occurs through n→π*interaction.

Effects of feeding whole linseed on ruminal fatty acid composition and microbial population in goats

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of feeding different levels of whole linseed,as a source of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids(PUFA), on ruminal fatty acid composition and microbial population in the goat. Twenty-four crossbred Boer goats were assigned to 3 dietary treatments: LO(control), L10 and L20 containing 0,10%, or 20% whole linseed, respectively. The ruminal pH and concentration of total volatile fatty acids(VFA) were not affected by dietary treatments. The feeding of L10 and L20 diets produced higher(P molar proportions of acetate and lower(P molar proportions of butyrate and valerate than the LO diet. molar proportions of myristic acid(C14:0) and palmitic acid(C16:0) were lower(P men of goats offered L10 and L20 diets than the control diet. However, stearic acid(C18:0), vaccenic acid(C18:1 trans-11), conjugated linoleic acid(cla,C18:2 trans-10, cis-12) and a-lenolenic acid(C18:3 n-3) were higher(P men of goats fed L10 and L20 than L0. Both inclusion levels of linseed in the diet(L10 and L20) reduced the ruminal total bacteria, methanogens, and protozoa compared with LO(P ments on cellulolytic bacteria, varied between the individual species. Both inclusion levels of linseed resulted in a significant decrease(P munococus flavefaciens compared with LO, with no significant difference between the groups fed linseed diets. The population of Rumunococus albus was not affected by the different dietary treatments. It was concluded that inclusion of whole linseed in the diet of goats could increase the concentration of PUFA in the rumen, and decrease the population of F. succinogenes, R. flavefaciens, methanogens and protozoa in rumen liquid of goats.

Studying of charge-transfer (CT) and proton transfer interactions is essential due to their important role in many biological field and industrial applications. The current work will add more information’s about the nature of interaction between 3,5-diamino-1,2,4-triazole (DAT) and 6-methyl-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diamine (mTDA) with 3,6-dichloro-2,5-dihydroxy-p-benzoquinone (chloranilic acid cla) which was studied spectrophotometrically in Ethanol (EtOH) and methanol (meOH) solvents at different temperatures. The molecular composition of the formed complexes was studied by applying continuous variation and spectrophotometric titration methods and found to be 1:1 charge transfer complex for both Complex (DAT:cla) and (mTDA:cla) which are produced. minimum-maximum absorbance’s method has been applied to calculate the formation constant KCT and molecular extinction coefficient (ε);they recorded high values confirming high stability of the produced complexes. Oscillator strength (f), transition dipole moment (μ), ionization potential (IP) and dissociation energy (W) of the formed CT-complexes were also determined and evaluated;they showed solvent dependency. It is concluded that the formation constant (KCT) of the complexes is found to depend on the nature of both electron acceptor and donors and on the polarity of solvents.
