Introduction: Cervical cancer is a public health concern and is mainly caused by Human papillomaviruses (HPV). In many parts of the world, studies are being carried out to understand the different genotypes to better tackle this issue. We conducted a study to determine the prevalence of HPV genotypes in women with chronic hepatitis B or C infection, co-infected or not with HIV, treated at the Hôpital Saint Camille in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso). Methods: This study was conducted from April to July 2023, including 100 women in gastroenterology at Hôpital Saint Camille. A questionnaire on their socio-demographic and life style was administrated;and endocervical samples were collected using sterile swabs and then sent to Centre of Biomolecular Research Pietro Annigoni (CERBA). HPV molecular detection and genotyping were performed by PCR and hybridization using the HPV Direct Flow Chips kit. Data were analysis using chi square test or Fischer’s exact test with a significance threshold for p Results: The prevalence of HPV infection was 28% (28/100) on the sample of women tested. The most frequent genotypes were HPV 52 (8.33%), followed by HPV 18 and 68 (6.25% each) for high-risk HPVs, and HPV 6, 44/55 and 62/81 (8.33% each) for low-risk HPVs. Conclusion: This study, the first of its kind in Burkina Faso on this group of the population, reveals that the most frequent genotypes found in this study are not included in the vaccine available in Burkina Faso (Gardasil®4).

The mining company Sama Nickel-CI during its exploration activities in the Bounta area (Biankouma department, western Côte d’Ivoire) identified rocks with magmatic and metamorphic characteristics of felsic to mafic compositions mineralized in sulfide but unknown in the region. Thus, the petrographic characterization of these rocks of Bounta as well as the sulfides they contain, was carried out from macroscopic to microscopic observations. Petrographic analysis of these rocks has shown that these rocks are trondhjemite, tonalite and granodiorite (TTG) suites, composed of the main minerals (quartz, plagioclase, orthopyroxene, amphibole, feldspar) and accessory minerals (biotite, garnet) with magmatic textures supplanted by metamorphic textures. They were set up by fractional crystallization and would be products of Archean crustal anatexis formed from the partial melting of basaltic protocrust during the Liberian orogeny. The Bounta’s series of trondhjemite, tonalite and granodiorite (TTG) contain speckles of sulfide (pyrite and pyrrhotite) which are disseminated in places and are relatively abundant, as well as iron oxides (magnetite) which are of low proportion.

High‑throughput sequencing view on the magnitude of global fungal diversity

High-throughput DNA sequencing has dramatically transformed several areas of biodiversity research including *** limitations,high-throughput sequencing is nowadays a predominant method to characterize the alpha and beta diversity of fungal *** the papers utilizing high-throughput sequencing approaches to study natural habitats in terrestrial ecosystems worldwide,>200 studies published until 2019 have generated over 250 million sequences of the primary mycological metabarcoding marker,the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer 2(ITS2).Here we show that at a 97%sequence similarity threshold,the total richness of non-singleton fungal taxa across the studies published so far is 1.08 million,mostly Ascomycota(56.8%of the taxa)and Basidiomycota(36.7%of the taxa).The Chao-1 estimate of the total extant fungal diversity based on this dataset is 6.28 million taxa,representing a conservative estimate of global fungal species *** and litter represent the habitats with the highest alpha diversity of fungi followed by air,plant shoots,plant roots and deadwood with Chao-1 predictions,for samples containing 5000 sequences,of 1219,569,392,228,215 and 140 molecular species,*** on the high-throughput sequencing data,the highest proportion of unknown fungal species is associated with samples of lichen and plant *** considering the use of high-throughput sequenc-ing for the estimation of global fungal diversity,the limitations of the method have to be taken into account,some of which are sequencing platform-specific while others are inherent to the metabarcoding approaches of species *** this respect,high-throughput sequencing data can complement fungal diversity predictions based on methods of traditional mycology and increase our understanding of fungal biodiversity.

In the present work, the mass transfer characteristics, namely moisture diffusivity and moisture transfer coefficient of “Violet de Galmi” variety of onions were evaluated using the analytical model. Onions were dried in a single layer at different temperatures (40℃, 50℃, 60℃, and 70℃) and for a relative humidity of drying air of 20%. The results showed a reasonably good agreement between the values predicted by the correlation and the experimental observations. This model computed the Biot number, effective moisture diffusivity, and mass transfer coefficient. Effective diffusion coefficient values are obtained between 0.2578 × 10-9 m2·s-1 and 0.5460 × 10-9 m2·s-1. Mass transfer coefficients of “Violet de Galmi” onion drying vary between 3.37 × 10-7 m·s-1 and 13.38 × 10-7 m·s-1. Numbers of mass transfer Biot are found between 0.9797 and 2.9397. The activation energy Ea is 31.73 kJ·mol-1.

Collagen proportionate area correlates to hepatic venous pressure gradient in non-abstinent cirrhotic patients with alcoholic liver disease

AIM To explore the relationship between collagen proportionate area(CPA) and portal hypertension-related clinical manifestations in alcoholic liver disease(ALD).METHODS Retrospective study with chart review of patients with ALD adressed to our center between January 2012 and December 2013 for a transjugular liver biopsy(TJLB) and hepatic hemodynamic study. Patients were included if they met the following criteria:(1) Medical indication for a liver biopsy in the setting of ALD;(2) recent(clinical, radiological, endoscopic and biological data available; and(3) estimated follow-up of at least 6 mo. Liver tissue from cirrhotic subjects obtained from transjugular liver biopsies was stained with Picro Sirius red and computer-assisted digital image analysis to determine fibrosis density using CPA was performed. RESULTS We included 61 patients with alcoholic ALD, subdivided in 41 active alcohol drinkers and 20 durably abstinent patients. Nine healthy liver donors served as controls. Mean CPA in patients with ALD was 7.1%, with no difference between active drinkers and abstinent patients(P = 0.17). Using a fibrosis density cutoff of 5%, we observed a positive correlation between high fibrosis density and the hepatic venous pressure gradient(HVPG) only in active drinkers(P = 0.02). At 12-mo of follow-up, in the group of active alcohol drinkers, patients reaching a composite outcome showed a higher HVPG value as compared to those who did not(18.5 mm Hg vs 14.5 mm Hg P clUSION In active alcoholic ALD, CPA correlates to portal pressure but only HVPG predicts clinical events, pointing to the role of alcohol as a modulator of portal hypertension.

Investigation of charge interaction between fullerene derivatives and single-walled carbon nanotubes

The charge interaction and corresponding doping effect between single-walled carbonnanotubes (SWNTs) and various fullerene derivatives, namely, C60, phenyl-C61-butyricacid methyl ester (PC61BM), methano-indenefullerene (MIF), 10,100,40,400-tetrahydrodi[1,4]methanonaphthaleno[5,6]fullerene (ICBA), 1,4-bis(dimethylphenylsilylmethyl)[60]fullerene (SIMEF-1), and dimethyl(orthoanisyl) silylmethyl(dimethylphenylsilylmethyl)[60]fullerene (SIMEF-2), are investigated. A variety of analytical techniques,including field-effect transistors (FETs) made of horizontally aligned arrays ofSWNTs, is used as a means of investigation. Data from different measurements haveto be used to obtain a concrete evaluation for the fullerene-applied SWNTs. The datacollectively points toward the conclusion that fullerenes with high molecular orbitalenergy levels, namely, MIF, SIMEF-1, SIMEF-2, and PC61BM, induce p-type doping,while fullerenes with low molecular orbital energy levels, namely, ICBA and C60,induce n-type doping on the carbon nanotubes. Nevertheless, the SWNTs retained ptypecharacteristics because n-doping induced by the fullerenes are weak compared tothe p-doping of the water and oxygen on carbon nanotubes. This means that fullerenederivatives have the ability to fine-tune the energy levels of carbon nanotubes, whichcan play a crucial role in carbon nanotube-based electronics, such as solar cells, lightemittingdevices, and FETs.

Introduction: The growing phenomenon of early pregnancies in Benin has adverse consequences on the lives of adolescent girls, impacting various social, health, economic, and educational aspects. This study aims to identify the factors associated with early pregnancies in the municipality of Bohicon in 2022. Materials and Methods: This is a case-control study conducted in Bohicon, involving 47 cases and 94 controls from 16 secondary and technical schools. Cases were selected exhaustively, while controls were randomly drawn from girls aged 10 to 19 in the same class who had never been pregnant. Matching was based on the type of institution and class. Data were collected through a questionnaire and analyzed using Epi info 7.***.1.0 and STATA 15 software, employing multiple conditional logistic regression (5% significance threshold) to identify factors related to early pregnancies. Results: The average age of adolescents was 17.63 years ± 0.09 for cases and 17.12 years ± 0.13 for controls. Associated factors included age over 16 years (p = 0.049), the marital status of the adolescent (single) (p = 0.001), and the monthly pocket money of the adolescent less than 10,000 FCFA (p = 0.031). Conclusion: Three factors related to early pregnancies were identified. To counteract this phenomenon and promote responsible sexuality among adolescents, it is essential to strengthen communication efforts aimed at modifying behaviors.

Some multimodal signals-that is,occurring in more than one sensory modality-appear to carry additional information which is not present when component signals are presented *** understand the function of male ring dove’s(Streptopelia risoria)multimodal courtship,we used audiovisual playback of male displays to investigate female response to stimuli differing in their audiovisual *** natural courtship recordings,we created a shifted stimulus where audio was shifted relative to video by aﬁxed value and a jittered stimulus,where each call was moved randomly along the visual *** presented 3 groups of females with the same stimulus type,that is,control,shifted,and jittered,for 7 *** recorded their behavior and assessed pre-and post-test blood estradiol *** found that playback exposure increased estradiol levels,conﬁrming that this technique can be efﬁciently used to study doves’sexual ***,chasing behavior(indicating sexual stimulation)increased over experimental days only in the control condition,suggesting a role of multimodal timing on female *** stresses the importance of signal conﬁguration in multimodal communication,as additional information is likely to be contained in the temporal association between modalities.

A Comparative Structural Study of Southern Region Shallow Basement of the North-Kivu Province (DR Congo) by Gravity and Magnetic Data Analysis

The aim of this study is to characterize the subsoil in the southern region of the North-Kivu province (DR Congo). Gravity and geomagnetic data were used in this study. Five different filters—the horizontal gradient magnitude, the analytic signal, the tilt derivative, the horizontal derivative of tilt derivative and the tilt angle of horizontal gradient—enabled us to delineate the gravity and magnetic anomaly sources present in the shallow subsurface of the study area. The plains of the Rutshuru territory are dominated by sources of weak gravity anomalies and sources of very weak magnetic anomalies located almost in the same places. The southern part of Rutshuru territory and a large part of Masisi territory are underlain by shallow sources of high gravity and magnetic anomalies. Gravity and magnetic anomaly sources are almost identical in the study area. The shallow sources of gravity and magnetic anomalies encountered in our study area are more or less linear and connected. The numerous gravity and magnetic lineaments present in our study region have three major directions: oriented East-West, North-South and North-East-South-West.
