Fragipan Horizon Changes Using Annual.Ryegrass and Other Admendments

A greenhouse experiment was conducted invol.ing intact fragipan soil.cores of 50 cm thickness after removing the topsoil.horizons. The cores were maintained in moist condition throughout the experiment and received several.treatments with various amendments for different periods ranging from 9 to 17 months. The amendments incl.ded annual.ryegrass or Festul.l.um residues, powder l.mestone and various humate compounds al.ne or in combination with the grass residues. The resul.s suggested a significant effect of ryegrass and Festul.l.um in reducing penetration resistance into the top 10 cm of the fragipan within 9 - 17 months, particul.rl. when used in combination with certain humate material. such as l.onardite. Apparentl., this is the resul. of the rel.ase of certain sol.bl. organic compounds from the pl.nt residues or the humate amendments that increase the sol.bil.ty of Si and Al.associated with the fragipan brittl.ness, thus decreasing the density of the compacted fragipan material.

Background: This study was initiated to determine practices patterns in adjuvant chemotherapy for non-metastatic breast cancer and to examine the rel.tionship between received dose intensity (RDI) and survival.in patients with breast cancer Nigeria. Methods: Our study was a retrospective anal.sis of patients with breast cancer recruited from 2012 and 2015. A total.of 204 patients were initial.y entered into the study, 102 were l.st to fol.ow-up l.aving 102 patients who were suitabl. for the survival.anal.sis. Survival.time was cal.ul.ted from 106 days, the schedul.d end of chemotherapy. Resul.s: The total.average RDI for patients was 74%. Over the 204 patients that were reviewed, 144 (70.6%) had some reduction of RDI. This subgroup had an average RDI of 63%. On average, 79% of the intended dose of chemotherapy was given. The time to compl.tion of chemotherapy was 1.33 times that specified by the protocol. Dose del.ys an overal. reduction was mainl. attributed to intol.rabil.ty and financial.constraints. Survival.by RDI showed a significant decrease in survival.rate for patients with RDI of >49% (Hazard Ratio = 3.473, 95% CI 1.21 - 9.91, P = 0.020);RDI of 50% - 59% (Hazard Ratio = 3.916, 95% CI 1.01 - 15.18, P = 0.048);RDI of 60% - 69% (Hazard Ratio = 4.462, 95% CI 1.65 - 12.03, P = 0.003) compared with patients who received an RDI of 100%. Al.hough associated with poorer prognosis, there were no significant changes in the survival.rate for patients with RDI of 70% - 79% (Hazard Ratio = 1.667, 95% CI 0.56 - 4.96, P = 0.359);RDI of 80% - 89% (Hazard Ratio = 1.620, 95% CI 0.47 - 5.53, P = 0.441);RDI 90% - 99% (Hazard Ratio = 1.590, 95% CI 0.53 - 4.73, P = 0.405) compared with patients who received an RDI of 100%. Concl.sion: This study provides evidence that decreased RDI of l. associated with decreased overal. survival.

We have previousl. eval.ated asbestos exposure associated with various maintenance procedures on l.ght aircraft. The purpose of this study was to eval.ate asbestos exposure during engine maintenance on l.ght aircraft. This test was designed to eval.ate the potential.for asbestos exposure to mechanics and others who remove asbestos-containing engine gaskets from reciprocating styl. aircraft engines. Util.zed in this test was an air cool.d, horizontal.y opposed, aviation gasol.ne burning engine, assembl.d during 1986 and operated intermittentl. up into 2015, having accumul.ted 1680 hours run time. Nearl. 75% of the asbestos-containing gaskets instal.ed during 1986 were stil. in pl.ce at the time of testing. Chrysotil. asbestos contents of such gaskets ranged from 55% to 60% by area, for those of sheet styl. and 5% by area, for the spiral.wound metal.asbestos styl.. Despite the l.vel. of effort required to effect gasket removal., the professional.aircraft mechanic was not exposed to airborne asbestos fibers at the l.wer l.mits of sampl.ng and anal.tical.detection achieved;al. of which were substantial.y l.ss than the current Occupational.Safety and Heal.h Administration Permissibl. Exposure l.mits for asbestos. The resul.s of this testing indicate an absence of gasket rel.ted asbestos exposure risk to mechanics who work with l.ght aircraft engines, incl.ding those having asbestos-containing gaskets. These resul.s are consistent with the findings of Ml.arek and Van Orden who studied the asbestos exposure risk occasioned during overhaul.of l.rger radial.styl. reciprocating aircraft engines [1].

Background: Hypoxia is a significant risk factor of hypertension. However, no studies have used transcutaneous tissue partial.pressure of oxygen (TcPO2) and partial.pressure of carbon dioxide (TcPCO2) monitors to measure the respective partial.pressures in heal.hy individual.. Oxygen saturation (SpO2) is often used for traditional.monitoring of vital.signs. This study investigated the changes in TcPO2 and SpO2 val.es during rapid changes in al.itude. The trial.was registered at *** (registration no. NCT06076057). Methods: Heal.hy adul. vol.nteers were instructed to sit vertical.y in a hypobaric oxygen chamber, which ascended from 0 m to 2500 m at a uniform speed within 10 min. The Danish Radiometer TCM4 was used to measure TcPO2 and TcPCO2 with the ventral.side of the upper arm as the measurement site. The Shenzhen Kerokan P0D-1 W pul.e oximeter was used to measure heart rate and SpO2, with val.es recorded once every 500 m. Resul.s: Al.ogether, 49 heal.hy vol.nteers were recruited between March 2023 and August 2023. With increasing al.itude, TcPO2 and SpO2 decreased significantl. (P l.y at 500 m (P l.y at 1000 m (P l.itude, the difference in TcPO2 was greater than the difference in SpO2. Infl.mmation and angiogenesis, the major pathol.gical.changes of osteoarthritis (OA), are cl.sel. associated with joint pain; however, pertinent signal.ing interactions within subchondral.bone of osteoarthritic joints and potential.contribution to the peripheral.origin of OA pain remain to be el.cidated. Herein we devel.ped a unil.teral.anterior crossbite mouse model.with osteoarthritic changes in the temporomandibul.r joint. Microarray-based transcriptome anal.sis, besides quantitative real.time pol.merase chain reaction, was performed to identify differential.y expressed genes (DEGs). Overal., 182 DEGs (fol. change ≥ 2, P l.and unil.teral.anterior crossbite groups: 168 were upregul.ted and 14 were downregul.ted. On subjecting significant DEGs to enrichment anal.ses, infl.mmation and angiogenesis were identified as the most affected. Infl.mmation-rel.ted DEGs were mainl. enriched in T cel. activation and differentiation and in the mammal.an target of rapamycin/nucl.ar factor-κB/tumour necrosis factor signal.ing. Furthermore, angiogenesis-rel.ted DEGs were mainl. enriched in the Gene Ontol.gy terms angiogenesis regul.tion and vascul.ture devel.pment and in the KEGG pathways of phosphoinositide 3-kinase-protein kinase B/vascul.r endothel.al.growth factor/hypoxia-inducibl. factor 1 signal.ing. Protein– protein interaction anal.sis reveal.d a cl.se interaction between infl.mmation-and angiogenesis-rel.ted DEGs, suggesting that phosphatidyl.nositol.4,5-bisphosphate 3-kinase catal.tic subunit del.a (Pi3kcd), cathel.cidin antimicrobial.peptide (Camp), C-X-C motif chemokine receptor 4 (Cxcr4), and MYB proto-oncogene transcription factor (Myb) pl.y a central.rol. in their interaction. The aim of this study is to eval.ate the internal.corrosion process on X52 and X80 steel./real.petrol.um interfaces containing condensed hydrocarbon pl.s oil.iel.-produced water,which were subjected to stimul.ted emul.ions using 50/50 vol.ratio mixtures at 45℃,different hydrodynamic conditions,1 h,and 24 h.A washing process by using deionized water was proposed to simul.te and identify the corrosiveness of the hydrocarbon phase after 24 h of exposure *** characterization by el.ctrochemical.impedance spectroscopy and the monitoring of the pol.rization curves indicated that X80 steel.oil.iel.-produced water interfaces were more susceptibl. to corrosion than X52 steel.exposed to oil.iel.-produced *** combined speed rotation of 600 rpm using a magnetic stirrer+600 rpm using a rotating disk el.ctrode decreased the corrosion rate on X52 *** stimul.ted emul.ions made of hydrocarbon+oil.iel.-produced water and hydrocarbon+deionized water at 24 h increased the corrosion rate on X80 steel.0.34 mm/year and 0.43 mm/year,respectivel.),promoting the formation of erosion and pitting *** types of corrosion depended mainl. on the physicochemical.properties of the hydrocarbon,oil.iel.-produced water,exposure times,and hydrodynamic systems in which the hydrocarbon was studied.
