Stroke is the leading cause of death and long-term disability worldwide,and cognitive impairment and dementia are major complications of ischemic *** C (CysC) has been found to be a neuroprotective factor in animal ***,the relationship between CysC levels and cognitive dysfunction in previous studies has revealed different *** prospective observational study investigated the correlation between serum CysC levels and post-stroke cognitive dysfunction at 3 *** from 638 patients were obtained from the China Antihypertensive Trial in Acute Ischemic Stroke (CATIS).Cognitive dysfunction was assessed using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) at 3 months after *** to the MMSE score,308 patients (52.9%) had post-stroke cognitive *** adjusting for potential confounding factors,the odds ratio (95% CI) of post-stroke cognitive dysfunction for the highest quartile of serum CysC levels was 0.54 (0.30–0.98),compared with the lowest *** correlation between serum CysC and cognitive dysfunction was modified by renal function *** observed a negative linear dose-response correlation between CysC and cognitive dysfunction in patients with normal renal function (Plinearity = 0.044),but not in those with abnormal renal *** serum CysC levels were correlated with a low risk of 3-month cognitive dysfunction in patients with acute ischemic stroke,especially in those with normal renal *** current results suggest that CysC is a protective factor for post-stroke cognitive dysfunction,and could be used to treat post-stroke cognitive *** CATIS study was approved by the Institutional Review Boards at Soochow University from China (approval No.2012-02) on December 30,2012,and was registered at *** (identifier ***01840072) on April 25,2013.

目的调查我国成人的主要死亡原因及其可改变的主要危险因素。方法前瞻性队列研究。该队列包括169871名≥40岁男女性有代表性样本,基线调查于1991年,于1999和2000年进行随访,随访率为93.4%。结果我国40～64岁人群中,恶性肿瘤、脑血管疾病和心脏病死亡率分别为265.9/10万人.年、171.5/10万人.年和159.1/10万人.年,高于美国同年龄人群。高血压的全死因相对危险性和人群归因危险度(PAR)分别为1.48%(95%CI1.44～1.53),11.7%;与未患高血压的人群相比,高血压患者总死亡率高48%,若高血压得到有效控制,预计全人群的全死因死亡将下降11.7%。吸烟、缺乏体力活动分别为第2、3位主要死亡原因,吸烟、缺乏体力活动PAR分别是7.9%和6.8%。男性的前5位死因为恶性肿瘤、心脏病、脑血管疾病、意外伤害和传染病;女性前5位死因为心脏病、脑血管疾病、恶性肿瘤、肺炎、流感和传染性疾病。结论血管疾病和癌症是中国成年人死亡的主要原因。控制血压、戒烟、增加体力活动和改善营养等方法是降低中国成年人早死负担的重要策略。

Experimental and numerical studies of micro PEM fuel cell

A single micro proton exchange membrane fuel cell （PEMFC） has been produced using Micro-electromechanical systems （MEMS） technology with the active area of 2.5 cm 2 and channel depth of about 500 μ m.A theoretical analysis is performed in this study for a novel MEMS-based design of a micro *** model consists of the conservation equations of mass,momentum,species and electric current in a fully integrated finite-volume solver using the CFD-ACE＋ commercial *** polarization curves of simulation are well correlated with experimental ***-dimensional simulations are carried out to treat prediction and analysis of micro PEMFC temperature,current density and water distributions in two different fuel flow rates （15 cm 3 /min and 40 cm 3 /min）.Simulation results show that temperature distribution within the micro PEMFC is affected by water distribution in the membrane and indicate that low and uniform temperature distribution in the membrane at low fuel flow rates leads to increased membrane water distribution and obtains superior micro PEMFC current density distribution under 0.4 V operating *** predictions are well within those known for experimental mechanism phenomena.

Representation of global precipitation anomalies using four major climate patterns

This study aims at finding the dominant climate patterns that influence the precipitation anomalies for different regions over the world. To this end, a multiple linear regression model is employed to represent the impact of four major climate patterns(El Ni?o-Southern Oscillation(ENSO), Indian Ocean Dipole(IOD), Arctic Oscillation(AO) and Antarctic Oscillation(AAO)) on the global precipitation anomalies. The normalized climate pattern indexes and normalized precipitation anomalies are used in the regression model. For the Northern Hemisphere, the three predictors used are the normalized NINO3.4 index(representing ENSO), normalized DMI(representing IOD) and normalized AO index; for the Southern Hemisphere, also three indexes are used as three predictors, and the normalized AO index is replaced by the normalized AAO index. The influences brought by each climate pattern can be represented by the magnitude of the corresponding regression coefficients, and the dominant climate patterns are those with the largest magnitude. The study results show that the precipitation anomalies in the northern part of South America and the northwestern part of Southeast Asia are mainly influenced by ENSO. The precipitation anomalies in East Africa and the southwestern part of Southeast Asia are mainly influenced by IOD. The precipitation anomalies in Europe and west coast of North America are mainly influenced by AO; the precipitation anomalies in the eastern part and southern part of South America, southern part of Africa, and the northeastern Australia are mainly influenced by AAO. These findings are consistent with the general understanding on the teleconnection features of the four climate patterns. Further, the regression model can be used for predicting precipitation anomalies through use of these major climate patterns.

Sol-Gel Preparation and Luminescence Properties of BaMgAl_(10)O_(17):Eu^(2+) Phosphors

The synthesis of BaMgAl10O17： Eu^2＋（BAM） phosphors using the sol-gel method and their luminescence properties were reported. The blue-light emitting BAM was synthesized using citric acid and ethylene glycol as chelating materials. Emission of blue-light was obtained from these phosphors. The luminescent intensity increases as the temperature of heat treatment is increased, This study investigated the effects of the molar ratio of ethylene glycol to citric acid （Ф value）, with respect to the phase formation and luminescence properties of BAM. The variation of the Фvalue resulted in the change of the sol-gel reaction mechanism and the microstructures of the resultant powders. An increase in Фvalue leads to an increase in the rate of BAM phase formation. The photoluminescent intensity of the prepared phosphors increases with heating temperatures because of enhanced crystallization.

Rotary ultrasonic-assisted milling of brittle materials

In order to improve the machining efficiency of ultrasonic milling,the easiest and most effective approach was started with the improvement of tool *** main objective of this research was to utilize rotary ultrasonic machining (RUM's) effectiveness in removing brittle materials to extend the applications of this independent,innovative manufacturing method (self-driving rotary ultrasonic machining),and to experimentally investigate its milling application on brittle *** designed tool was used in the conjunction with previously established RUM machine tools,and glass was selected as workpiece for *** interrelationship between feed rate and depth of cut was *** measuring the surface roughness of workpiece,the overall efficacy of utilizing RUM for milling was evaluated and *** assisted milling results in the reduction of milling resistance,which leads to a greater process rate.

Numerical characteristics of the full operator hybrid simulation method

The full operator method （FOM） has been proposed to overcome some of the shortcomings of the commonly used operator splitting method （OSM）. In particular, the FOM is improved by increasing the accuracy of both the predictor and corrector using the estimated tangent stiffness of the tested structure. The numerical characteristics of the FOM, including stability and accuracy, are investigated in this study. It is shown that FOM is conditionally stable. The stability and accuracy characteristics are dependent on the accuracy of the estimated tangent stiffness and the parameters associated with the acceleration variation in the time-stepping integration method. Mass-spring systems with different types of nonlinearity, including hardening, stiffening, and softening behavior, are used to evaluate the performance of the FOM. It is found that the FOM can capture these types of nonlinearity with satisfactory accuracy. Using a prototype 12-story composite coupled wall system, the influences of the strong nonlinearity of the system as well as the displacement control errors from hydraulic actuators on the performance of the FOM are explored. The results show that the FOM is capable of generating reasonably accurate results despite the presence of strong structural nonlinearity and displacement control errors.
