Aim： To investigate the antioxidant effects of morinda officinalis （morindae radix, MR） on H2O2-induced oxidative stress in cultured mouse TM3 Leydig cells. Methods： We carried out 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free radical scavenging, 3-（4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl）-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide, lipid peroxidation, testosterone enzyme immunoassay, superoxide dismutase （SOD）, and catalase （CAT） assays in Leydig TM3 cells. Results： MR showed a 47.8% 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging effect in TM3 cells with no significant cytotoxicity. Oxidative stress was induced in TM3 cells with 100 μmol H2O2, and treatment of the cells with 250 μg/mL MR showed the most significant protective effect （64%, P 〈 0.001） in the cell viability assay with a decreased lipid peroxidation level （1.75 nmol/mg protein, P 〈 0.05）, increased testosterone production （43.5 pg/mL）, and improvements in SOD activity （7.49 units of SOD/mg protein, P 〈 0.001） and CAT activity （74.6 units of CAT/mg protein, P 〈 0.001）. Conclusion： These findings indicate that MR, as an antioxidant, protects functions of cultured mouse TM3 Leydig cells from H2O2-induced oxidative stress.

Pseudoachalasia is a difficult condition for the clinician to differentiate from idiopathic achalasia even by manometry, radiological studies or endoscopy. Its etiology is usually associated with tumors. In most cases, the diagnosis is made after surgical explorations. The proposed pathogenesis of the disease is considered as mechanical obstruction of the distal esophagus or infiltration of the malignancy that affects the inhibitory neurons of the meyenteric plexus in the majority of cases. Surgery has been reported as a cause of pseudoachalasia. We report a 70-year-old man who suffered from deglutination disorder caused by pseudo-achalasia after truncal vagotomy. The patient was symptom-free after a nine-year follow-up and complete recovery of esophageal motility status from pseudoachalasia after pneumatic dilations. We also reviewed the literature of pseudoachalasia.

BACKGROUND Squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck(SCCHN) is the fifth most common cancer worldwide. Inhibition of epidermal growth factor receptor signaling has been shown to be a critical component of therapeutic option. Herein, we report a case of durable complete response to *** SUMMARY An 81-year-old Caucasian male who presented with metastatic poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma of right cervical lymph nodes(levels 2 and 3). Imaging studies including(18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography(CT) and contrast-enhanced CT scan of neck and chest did not reveal any other disease elsewhere. Panendoscopic examination with random biopsy did not reveal malignant lesion in nasopharynx,oropharynx, and larynx. He underwent modified neck dissection and postoperative radiation. Within 2 mo after completion of radiation, he developed local recurrence at right neck, which was surgically removed. Two mo after the salvage surgery, he developed a second recurrence at right neck. Due to suboptimal performance status and his preference, he started erlotinib *** achieved partial response after first 2 mo of erlotinib treatment, then complete response after total 6 mo of erlotinib treatment. He developed sever skin rash and diarrhea including Clostridium difficile infection during the course of erlotinib treatment requiring dose reduction and eventual discontinuation. He remained in complete remission for more than two years after discontinuation of *** We report a case of metastatic SCCHN achieving durable complete response from erlotinib. Patient experienced skin rash and diarrhea toxicities which were likely predictors of his treatment response.

AIM： To evaluate the efficacy of short-term overlap lamivudine therapy with adefovir in patients with lamivudine-resistant and naive chronic hepatitis B, we compared patients receiving overlap therapy with those receiving adefovir alone. METHODS： Eighty patients who had received lamivudine treatment for various periods and had a lamivudineo resistant liver function abnormality were enrolled. Forty of these patients received adefovir treatment combined with lamivudine treatment for ≥ 2 mo, while the other 40 received adefovir alone. We assessed the levels of hepatitis B virus （HBV） DNA at 0, 12 and 48 wk and serum alanine aminotransferase （ALT） levels after 0, 12, 24 and 48 wk of adefovir treatment in each group. RESULTS： We found serum ALT became normalized in 72 （87.5%） of the 80 patients, and HBV DNA decreased by ≥ 2 Ioglo copies/mL in 60 （75%） of the 80 patients at the end of a 48-wk treatment. HBV DNA levels were not significantly different between the groups. The improvements in serum ALT were also not significantly different between the two groups. CONCLUSION： These findings suggest short-term overlap lamivudine treatment results in no better virological and biological outcomes than non-overlap adefovir monotherapy.

The carbon(C) and nitrogen(N) storage capabilities of Pinus densiflora in six different stand ages(10,27,30,32,44,and 71 years old) were investigated in *** sample trees were destructively harvested and 12 were *** from the above and belowground tree components,coarse woody debris(CWD),forest floor,and mineral soil(0-30 cm) were *** biomass was highest in the 71-year-old stand(202.8 t ha-1) and lowest in the 10-year-old stand(18.4 t ha-1).C and N storage in the mineral soil was higher in the 71-year-old stand than in the other stands,mainly due to higher soil C and N ***,the total ecosystem C and N storage(tree+forest floor+CWD+soil) was positively correlated with stand age:increasing from a minimum in the 10 year old stand(18.8 t C ha-1 and 1.3 t N ha-1) to a maximum in the 71-year-old stand(201.4 t C ha-1 and 8.5 t N ha-1).The total ecosystem C storage showed a similar sigmoidal pattern to that of tree C storage as a function of the age-sequence,while N storage in the CWD,forest floor and mineral soil showed no significant temporal *** results provide important insights that will increase our understanding of C and N storage in *** stands and our ability to predict changes according to stand age in the region.

Sensor nodes are easily compromised to malicious attackers due to an open environment. A false injected attack which takes place on application layer is elected by the compromised node. If the false report arrives in a base station, a false alarm is occurred, and the energy of the nodes is consumed. To detect the false report, statistical en-route filtering method is proposed. In this paper, we proposed the secure path cycle selection method using fuzzy rule-based system to consume effective energy. The method makes balanced energy consumption of each node. moreover, the lifetime of the whole network will be increased. The base station determines the path cycle using the fuzzy rule-based system. The performance of the proposed method is demonstrated using simulation studies with the three methods.

Abnormal hyperphosphorylation of tau protein is a principal pathological hallmark in the onset of neurodegenerative disorders,such as Alzheimer’s disease(AD),which can be induced by an excess of reactive oxygen species(ROS).As an antioxidant,hydrogen gas(H_(2))has the potential to mitigate AD by scavenging highly harmful ROS such as·***,conventional administration methods of H_(2) face significant challenges in controlling H_(2) release on demand and fail to achieve effective accumulation at lesion ***,we report artificial nanoreactors that mimic natural photosynthesis to realize near-infrared(NIR)light-driven photocatalytic H_(2) evolution in *** nanoreactors are constructed by biocompatible crosslinked vesicles(CVs)encapsulating ascorbic acid and two photosensitizers,chlorophyll a(Chla)and indoline dye(Ind).In addition,platinum nanoparticles(Pt NPs)serve as photocatalysts and upconversion nanoparticles(UCNP)act as light-harvesting antennas in the nanoreacting system,and both attach to the surface of *** NIR irradiation,the nanoreactors release H_(2) in situ to scavenge local excess ROS and attenuate tau hyperphosphorylation in the AD mice *** NIR-triggered nanoreactors provide a proof-of-concept design for the great potential of hydrogen therapy against AD.

Effect of holding time on microstructural developments and transformation of precipitates formed at the interface during transient liquid-phase bonding of a duplex stainless steel using a Ni-based amorphous insert alloy was studied. The experimental results reveal that the microstructure of the adjacent base metal varies clearly as a function of holding time. The migration of Cr and Ni elements and the → transformation seem to play relevant roles in this microstructure evolution. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electron prob X-ray microanalysis (EPMA) results indicate the transformation of BN→BN and (N, mo) boride→BN at the interface with the holding time of 60-1 800 s. N content changes with holding time increasing at locations at the interface might be a controlling factor contributing to this transformation.

Li4Ti50i2 (LTO) has attracted considerable attention in lithium-ion battery (LIB) applications because of its favorable characteristics as an anode material. Despite its promise, the widespread use of LTO is still limited primarily due to its intrinsically poor electric and ionic con ductivities and high surface reactivity. To address these issues, we desig ned polyg onal nano architectures composed of various Li-Ti oxide crystal polymorphs by a facile synthesis route. Depending on the pH condition, this synthesis approach yields multi-polymorphed Li-Ti oxides where the interior is dominantly composed of a Li-rich phase and the exterior is a Li-deficient (or Li-free) phase. As one of these variations, a polygonal LTO-rutile TiO2 structure is formed. The rutile TiO2 on the surface of this LTO composite significantly improves the kinetics of Li^+ insertion/extraction because the channel along the o-axis in TQ2 provides a Li^+ highway due to the significantly low energy barrier for Li^+ diffusion. moreover, the presenee of rutile TiO2, which is less reactive with a carbonate-based electrolyte, ensures Iong-term stability by suppress)ng the undesirable interfacial reaction on LTO.

Integrated transcriptome analysis for the hepatic and jejunal mucosa tissues of broiler chickens raised under heat stress conditions

Background:Heat stress(HS)is one of the most important threats for the current poultry ***,many efforts have been made to ameliorate the adverse effect of HS on poultry production;however,physiological and molecular mechanisms pertaining to HS are still limited in ***,the objective of the current study was to investigate functional alterations based on individual and integrated transcriptomes in the liver and jejunal mucosa tissues of broiler chickens exposed to HS ***:Broiler chickens exposed to HS showed decreased growth performance and increased corticosterone concentrations in the *** the transcriptome analysis,the number of differentially expressed genes(DEGs)were identified in the liver and jejunal mucosa by HS *** the liver,genes related to amino acid oxidation,tryptophan metabolism,lipid metabolism,oxidative phosphorylation,and immune responses were altered by HS,which support the reason why heat-stressed poultry had decreased productive *** the jejunal mucosa,genes related to defense systems,glutathione metabolism,detoxification of xenobiotics,and immune responses were differently expressed by HS *** integrated transcriptome analysis with DEGs found in the liver and jejunal mucosa showed a considerable connectivity between the core nodes in the constructed networks,which includes glutathione metabolism,xenobiotic metabolism,carbon metabolism,and several amino acid ***:The core network analysis may indicate that increased requirement of energy and amino acids in the jejunal mucosa of broiler chickens exposed to HS conditions is likely compromised by increased oxidation and synthesis of amino acids in the ***,our results may provide comprehensive insights for molecular and metabolic alterations of broiler chickens raised under HS conditions,which can aid in the development of the novel strategies to ameliorate the negative effect of HS on poultry
