Fabrication of Bio-inspired Superamphiphobic Aluminum Alloy Surface with Oil-triggered Wenzel-Slippery Transition via Femtosecond Laser

Surface-tension-confined microfluidic devices are platforms for manipulating 2D droplets based on patterned surfaces with special *** have great potential for various applications,but are still in the early stages of development and face some challenges that need to be *** study,inspired by the Wenzel and slippery transition of rose petal,develops a Patterned Oil-triggered Wenzel-slippery Surface(POWS)to examine the microfluidic devices.A laser-chemical composite method is established to fabricate POWSs,which take rose-petal-like microstructures as wettability pattern and a superamphiphobic surface as the *** prepared POWSs switched between high adhesion superhydrophobic state and the slippery liquid-infused surface state through adding or removing the lubricant *** the high adhesion superhydrophobic state,the droplets can be sticked on the *** the slippery liquid-infused state,the droplet can slide along the wettability pattern as the designed route.A POWS-based droplet reactor is further constructed,on which,the droplets can be remotely controlled to move,mix and react,as *** a POWS,which manipulates droplets with surface tension controlled by the switchable wettability patterns,would be a promising candidate to construct multiple surface-tension-confined microfluidic *** addition,the fabrication technique and design principle proposed here may aid the development of various field related to the bio-inspired surfaces,such as water collection,desalination and high throughput analysis,etc.

Load-dependent Variable Gearing Mechanism of Muscle-like Soft Actuator

Pennate muscle is characterized by muscle fibers that are oriented at a certain angle(pennation angle)relative to the muscle’s line of action and rotation during *** fiber rotation amplifies the shortening velocity of muscle,to match loading conditions without any control *** unique variable gearing mechanism,which characterized by Architecture Gear Ratio(AGR),is involves complex interaction among three key elements:muscle fibers,connective tissue,and the pennation ***,how three elements determine the AGR of muscle-like actuator is still *** study introduces a Himisk actuator that arranges five contractile units at a certain pennation angle in a flexible matrix,the experiment and simulation results demonstrated that the proposed actuator could vary AGR automatically in response to variable loading *** on this actuator,we present a series of actuators by simulations with the varying pennation angle(P),elastic modulus of the flexible matrix(E),and number of contractile units(N)to analyze their effects on AGR,and their interaction by three-factor analysis of *** results demonstrated that P and N effect on the AGR significantly,while E effects on AGR slightly,which supported the idea that the P is the essential factor for the AGR,and N is also an important factor due to the capability of force *** provides a better understanding of mechanical behavior and an effective optimizing strategy to muscle-like soft actuator.

Bioinspired soft actuators with highly ordered skeletal muscle structures

Mammals such as humans develop skeletal muscles composed of muscle fibers and connective tissue,which have mechanical properties that enable power output with three-dimensional motion when *** muscle-like actuators developed to date,such as the McKibben artificial muscle,often focus sole contractile elements and have rarely addressed the contribution of flexible connective tissue that forms an integral part of the structure and morphology of biological ***,we present a class of pneumatic muscle-like actuators,termed highly mimetic skeletal muscle(HimiSK)actuator,that consist of parallelly arranged contractile units in a flexible matrix inspired by ultrasonic measurements on skeletal *** contractile units act as a muscle fiber to produce active shortening force,and the flexible matrix functions as connective tissue to generate passive *** application of positive pressure to the contractile units can produce a linear contraction and *** this actuator,we assign different flexible materials as contractile units and a flexible matrix,thus forming five mold *** actuators feature three-dimensional motion on activation and present both intrinsic force-velocity and force-length characteristics that closely resebmle those of a biological *** output and tetanic force produced by harder contractile units improve the maximum output force by up to about 41.3%and the tetanic force by up to about 168%.Moreover,high displacement and velocity can be generated by a softer flexible matrix,with the improvement of maximum displacement up to about 33.3%and velocity up to about 73%.The results demonstrate that contractile units play a crucial role in force generation,while the flexible matrix has a significant impact on force transmission and deformation;the final force,velocity,displacement,and three-dimensional motion results from the interplay of contractile units,fluid and flexible *** approach introduces a m

Bioinspired flexible piezoresistive sensor for high-sensitivity detection of broad pressure range

The human skin has the ability to sense tactile touch and a great range of ***,in prosthetic or robotic systems,it is necessary to prepare pressure sensors with high sensitivity in a wide measurement range to provide human-like tactile ***,we developed a flexible piezoresistive pressure sensor that is highly sensitive in a broad pressure range by using lotus leaf micropatterned polydimethylsiloxane and multilayer *** superposing four layers of micropatterned constructive substrates,the multilayer piezoresistive pressure sensor achieves a broad pressure range of 312 kPa,a high sensitivity of 2.525 kPa^(−1),a low limit of detection(LOD)of<12 Pa,and a fast response time of 45 *** with the traditional flexible pressure sensor,the pressure range of this sensor can be increased by at least an order of *** flexible piezoresistive pressure sensor also shows high robustness:after testing for at least 1000 cycles,it shows no sign of *** importantly,these sensors can be potentially applied in various human motion detection scenarios,including tiny pulse monitoring,throat vibration detection,and large under-feet pressure *** proposed fabrication strategy may guide the design of other kinds of multifunctional sensors to improve the detection performance.

A Stiffness-Tunable Composite with Wide Versatility and Applicability Based on Low-Melting-Point Alloys

Flexible materials are essential in bionic fields such as soft ***,the lack of stiffness limits the mechanical performance of soft robots and makes them difficult to develop in many extreme working conditions,such as lifting and excavation *** address this issue,we prepared a stiffness-tunable composite by dispersing low-melting-point alloy into thermosetting epoxy resin.A dramatic and rapid change in stiffness was achieved by changing the state of matter at lower temperatures,and accurate control of the composite modulus was achieved by controlling the *** the alloy content is at 30vol%,the tensile modulus changes 41.6 times,while the compressive modulus changes 58.9 *** applying the composite to a flexible actuator,the initial stiffness of the actuator was improved by 124 times,reaching 332 mN/*** addition,the use of stiffness-tunable materials in the wheel allowed for timely changes in the grounding area to improve *** flexible materials with manageable mechanical properties have wide applicability in fields including bionics,robotics,and *** findings provide a new approach to designing and developing flexible materials with improved stiffness and controllability.

Microwave-assisted pyrolysis of plastics for aviation oil production:energy and economic analyses

Microwave-assisted pyrolysis is an effective method for recycling plastic wastes into oils that can be used for aviation fuels. In this study, energy and economic analyses of aviation oil production from microwave-assisted pyrolysis of polystyrene were performed. The total energy efficiency, recovered energy efficiency, unitary cost, unitary energy economic cost, relative cost difference, and energy economic factor were detailed. And the effects of microwave power, pyrolysis temperature, microwave absorbent loading, and microwave absorbent type on these parameters were covered. It was found that pyrolysis temperature has the most significant effect on the unitary cost and unitary energy economic cost of aviation oil, and-microwave absorbent type has a significant influence on energy economic factor during the whole microwave-assisted pyrolysis process. The optimum reaction conditions at the tonnage system for pyrolysis of 1 t polystyrene were microwave power of 650 W, pyrolysis temperature of 460 ℃, and silicon carbide (microwave absorbent) at a loading of 2 t (twice than feedstock loading). At these optimal conditions, the total energy efficiency, recovered energy efficiency, unitary cost, unitary energy economic cost, relative cost difference, and energy economic factor were 62.78%, 96.51%, 3.21 × 10^(4) yuan·t^(-1), 779 yuan·GJ^(-1), 1.49, and 71.02%, respectively.

Enhancing XRF sensor-based sorting of porphyritic copper ore using particle swarm optimization-support vector machine(PSO-SVM)algorithm

X-ray fluorescence(XRF)sensor-based ore sorting enables efficient beneficiation of heterogeneous ores,while intraparticle heterogeneity can cause significant grade detection errors,leading to misclassifications and hindering widespread technology *** classification models are crucial to determine if actual grade exceeds the sorting threshold using localized XRF *** studies mainly used linear regression(LR)algorithms including simple linear regression(SLR),multivariable linear regression(MLR),and multivariable linear regression with interaction(MLRI)but often fell short attaining satisfactory *** study employed the particle swarm optimization support vector machine(PSO-SVM)algorithm for sorting porphyritic copper ore ***-scale results showed PSO-SVM out-performed LR and raw data(RD)models and the significant interaction effects among input features was *** poor input data quality,PSO-SVM demonstrated exceptional ***-scale sorting achieved 93.0%accuracy,0.24%grade increase,84.94%recovery rate,57.02%discard rate,and a remarkable 39.62 yuan/t net smelter return(NSR)increase compared to no *** improvements were achieved by the PSO-SVM model with optimized input combinations and highest data quality(T=10,T is XRF testing times).The unsuitability of LR methods for XRF sensor-based sorting of investigated sample is *** element selection and mineral association analysis elucidate element importance and influence mechanisms.

NUMERICAL ANALYSIS ON THREE-DIMENSIONAL FLOW FIELD OF TURBINE IN TORQUE CONVERTER

Three-dimensional flow field of turbine in torque converter is simulated by numerical calculation in order to improve the performance of torque converter. Calculation model of a torque converter is presented based on the mixing-plane technology. In the calculation of flow field, the 3D N-S equations are separated by finite-volume method and solved by semi-implicit method for pressure-linked equations（SIMPLE）. Based on flow field calculation, the flow field of turbine is simulated. The velocity and pressure in the flow field of turbine are analyzed. The external performance of the torque converter is also calculated. Results of flow simulation show that there are secondary flow, off flow and velocity gradient in turbine passage. The validity of numerical simulation is verified by comparing the results of numerical simulation with experiment data.
