The effect of temperature-responsive solution behavior of PNIPAM-b-PPEOMA-b-PNIPAM on its inclusion complexation with α-cyclodextrin was studied. The triblock polymer was prepared by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer （RAFT） polymerization and formed inclusion complexes （ICs） after selective threading of the PEO segment of the triblock polymer through the cavities of α-CD units. For comparison, PPEOMA homopolymer was prepared and the inclusion complexation with α-CD was also studied. The ICs were prepared with a-CD when the polymer was in different conformations by changing the temperature, and the formed ICs were characterized by XRD, ^1H-NMR, TGA and DSC. The solutions of the ICs show temperature-responsive clear/turbid transition or fluidic emulsion/gel transition depending on the concentration of the α-CD added, and the stoichiometry determined by ^1H-NMR and TGA indicates that the stoichiometry of EO to α-CD of the resulted ICs increases with increasing of temperature.

Estimation of Turnover and Equilibrium of Soil Organic Matter Using a Mathematical Approach

The methods based on N uptake of aerial-plants, soil organic matter (SOM) dynamics, Jenny's equation, and actual measurement of long-term field experiments in Jiaxing, Quzhou, Huangyan and Hangzhou of Zhejiang Province, China were used to determine the organic mineralization rate being helpful in estimating the organic requirement for SOM equilibrium. The results showed that the estimated mineralization ratios of SOM for Jiaxing and Quzhou were, respectively, 0.0404 and 0.0508 based on N uptake of aerial-plants in non-fertilized plots; 0.0405 and 0.012 using SOM dynamics in non-fertilized plots; and 0.0413 and 0.0513 using the actual investigated data and Jenny's equation. With Jenny's equation, soil organic C balance in manure + N-P-K plots was estimated at nearly 28.8 g kg-1 for Jiaxing and 32.4 g kg-1 for Quzhou with predicted SOM linearly related to the actual investigated values (r2 = 0.9640 for Jiaxing and 0.8541 for Quzhou). To maintain the SOM balance in the non-fertilized plots the recommended rate of organic materials was 3 000-6 600 kg ha-1, and the relevant rates of farm yard manure (FYM) in the manure and N-P-K plots were estimated at 3 375 (dry) and 17670 kg ha-1 (wet) for Jiaxing, 1845 (dry) and 6090 kg ha-1 (wet) for Quzhou.

This study aimed to investigate the functional and morphological changes in the corpus cavernosum after cavernous nerve(CN)injury or neurectomy and then reveal whether treatment with the angiotensin II Type 1 receptor antagonist losartan would improve erectile function as well as its potential mechanisms.A total of 48 10-week-old Sprague-Dawley male rats,weighing 300-350 g,were randomly divided into the following four groups(n=12 per group):sham operation(Sham)group,bilateral cavernous nerve injury(BOND group,losartaretreated BCNI(BCNI+Losartan)group,and bilateral cavernous neurectomy(Neurectomy)*** was administered once daily by oral gavage at a dose of 30 mg kg^-1 day^-1 for 4 weeks starting on the day of *** BCNI and the Neurectomy groups exhibited decreases in erectile response and increases in apoptosis and oxidative stress,compared with the Sham *** with losartan could have a modest effect on erectile function and significantly prevent corporal apoptosis and oxidative stress?The phospho-B-cell lymphoma 2(Bcl-2)-associated death promoter(p-Bad)/Bad and phospho-the protein kinase B(p-AKT)/AKT ratios were substantially lower,while the Bcl-2-associated X protein(Bax)/Bcl-2 ratio,nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2)/Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1(Keap-1),transforming growth factor-p 1(TGF-pi)and heme oxygenase-1(HO-1)levels,and caspase-3 activity were higher in the BCNI and Neurectomy groups than in the Sham *** 4 weeks of daily administration with losartan,these expression levels were remarkably attenuated compared with the BCNI *** together,our results suggested that early administration of losartan after CN injury could slightly improve erectile function and significantly reduce corporal apoptosis and oxidative stress by inhibiting the Akt/Bad/Bax/caspase-3 and Nrf2/Keap-1 pathways.

BACKGROUND Vaginal abscess is a treatable disease and should be considered in female patients with voiding difficulties and perineal tenderness. There are no reported cases of vaginal abscess causing voiding dysfunction in the absence of a previous surgery. Early diagnosis and drainage of vaginal abscesses may lead to excellent *** SUMMARY We presented a case of vaginal abscess that caused voiding dysfunction without surgery history. A 64-yearold woman had a past history of type 2 diabetes mellitus. She came to our clinic following urinary difficulty with perineal tenderness. Bladder ultrasonography revealed a pelvic cystic lesion with a mass effect on the bladder. The presence of a vaginal abscess was suspected following pelvic examination and transvaginal *** transvaginal drainage of the vaginal abscess and a full course of antibiotic treatment, she recovered well without any urination symptoms. CONCLUSION Voiding dysfunction caused by vaginal abscess is rare but should be considered in female patients with perineal tenderness.

AIM: To study effects of chebulinic acid on erythroid and megakaryocytic differentiation in K562 cells. METHODS: The benzidine staining method was used to evaluate hemoglobin synthesis; the expression of erythroid specific glycophorin A (GPA) protein and megakaryocytic surface marker CD61 was determined by flow cytometry using fluorescence labeled antibodies; erythroid and megakaryocytic mRNA expression was analyzed by RT-PCR. RESULTS: During erythroid differentiation induced by butyric acid (BA) or hemin, chebulinic acid not only inhib- ited the hemoglobin synthesis of BA- and hemin-treated K562 cells in concentration-dependant manner with IC50 of 4 μmol/L and 40 μmol/L respectively, but also inhibited another erythroid differentiation marker acetylcholinesterase at the concentration of 50 μmol/L in the cells either treated or untreated with each erythroid differentiation inducers, whereas chebulinic acid 50 μmol/L did not change GPA protein expression in these cells significantly. When K562 cells were treated with TPA 50 μg/L for 72 h to induce megakaryocytic differentiation, the presence of chebulinic acid 50 μmol/L slightly provoked the decrease of GPA protein expression induced by TPA. Chebulinic acid did not change the TPA-induced CD61 expression at the same concentration. Chebulinic acid also reduced the mRNA levels of erythroid relative genes including γ-globin, PBGD, NF-E2, and GATA-1 genes in K562 cells either treated or untreated with BA, whereas chebulinic acid upregulated the mRNA levels of GATA-2 transcription factor in these cells. CONCLUSION: Chebulinic acid had inhibitory effect on erythroid differentiation likely through changing transcriptional activation of differentiation relative genes, which suggests that chebulinic acid or other tannins might influence the efficiency of some anti-tumor drugs-induced differentiation or the hematopoiesis processes.

Background The risk of clinical deterioration still exists in the acute phase despite the fact that patients with minor stroke may display less severe symptoms. The impact of this clinical deterioration on long-term outcomes is unknown. We characterized the clinical features of neurological deterioration （ND） in the acute phase of minor ischemic stroke （MIS） and investigated its impact on mid- and long-term outcomes. Methods This was a multi-centered, prospective clinical study involving patients with MIS （the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale, NIHSS ~3） recruited from the China National Stroke Registry. Patients were included who had been hospitalized within 24 hours of stroke onset. Baseline characteristics, complication rates during hospitalization, etiology of stroke, as well as 3-, 6-, and 12-month post-stroke outcomes were compared between patients with and without ND during the acute phase. Results A number of 368 （15.2%） out of 2424 patients included in the study exhibited ND in the acute phase. Compared to patients without ND, patients with ND had longer hospital stay, increased rate of baseline diabetes, and multiple complications. Multivariate Logistic regression indicated that ND in acute phase was an independent factor predictive of increased dependence （adjusted odds ratio = 5.20, 95% CI, 3.51-7.70, P 〈0.001） at 12-month post-stroke. Conclusions The risk of ND in the acute phase is high in patients with MIS. ND in the acute phase is an independent predictor for poor outcomes at 12 months post-stroke onset.

A new class of atomicity, namely contract atomicity is presented. A newtechnical strategy based on convertible signature and two-phase commitment is proposed forimplementing atomicity of electronic contract protocol. A new atomic contract signing protocol isgiven out by using ElGam-al-like convertible undeniable signature and commitment of conversion key,and another new atomic contract signing protocol is brought forward by using RSA-based convertibleundeniable signature scheme and commitment ofconversion key. These two new protocols are proved tobe of atomicity, fairness, prnacy- non-repudiation.

Pulmonary abnormalities,dysfunction or hyper-reactivity occurs in association with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) more frequently than previously *** evidence suggests that subtle inflammation exists in the airways among IBD patients even in the absence of any bronchopulmonary symptoms,and with normal pulmonary functions. The pulmonary impairment is more pronounced in IBD patients with active disease than in those in remission. A growing number of case reports show that the IBD patients develop rapidly progressive respiratory symptoms after colectomy,with failure to isolate bacterial pathogens on repeated sputum culture,and often request oral corticosteroid therapy. All the above evidence indicates that the inflammatory changes in both the intestine and lung during IBD. Clinical or subclinical pulmonary inflammation accompanies the main inflammation of the *** there are clinical and epidemiological reports of chronic inflammation of the pulmonary and intestinal mucosa in IBD,the detailed mechanisms of pulmonaryintestinal crosstalk remain unknown. The lung has no anatomical connection with the main inflammatory site of the bowel. Why does the inflammatory process shift from the gastrointestinal tract to the airways? The clinical and subclinical pulmonary abnormalities,dysfunction,or hyper-reactivity among IBD patients need further evaluation. Here,we give an overview of the concordance between chronic inflammatory reactions in the airways and the gastrointestinal tract. A better understanding of the possible mechanism of the crosstalk among the distant organs will be beneficial in identifying therapeutic strategies for mucosal inflammatory diseases such as IBD and allergy.
