High mobility group-box 3 overexpression is associated with poor prognosis of resected gastric adenocarcinoma

AIM:To elucidate high mobility group-box 3(HMGB3) protein expression in gastric adenocarcinoma,its potential prognostic relevance,and possible mechanism of action.METHODS:Ninety-two patients with gastric adenocarcinomas surgically removed entered the study.HMGB3 expression was determined by immunohistochemistry through a tissue microarray procedure.The clinicopathologic characteristics of all patients were recorded,and regular follow-up was made for all patients.The inter-relationship of HMGB3 expression with histological and clinical factors was analyzed using nonparametric tests.Survival analysis was carried out by Kaplan-Meier(log-rank) and multivariate Cox(Forward LR) analyses between the group with overexpression of HMGB3 and the group with low or no HMGB3 ex-pression to determine the prognosis value of HMGB3 expression on overall survival.Further,HMGB3 expression was knocked down by small hairpin RNAs(shRNAs) in the human gastric cancer cell line BGC823 to observe its influence on cell biological characteristics.The MTT method was utilized to detect gastric cancer cell proliferation changes,and cell cycle distribution was analyzed by flow cytometry.RESULTS:Among 92 patients with gastric adenocarcinomas surgically removed in this study,high HMGB3 protein expression was detected in the gastric adenocarcinoma tissues vs peritumoral tissues(P < 0.001).Further correlation analysis with patients' clinical and histology variables revealed that HMGB3 overexpression was obviously associated with extensive wall penetration(P = 0.005),a positive nodal status(P = 0.004),and advanced tumor-node-metastasis(TNM) stage(P = 0.001).But there was no correlation between HMGB3 overexpression and the age and gender of the patient,tumor localization or histologic grade.Statistical Kaplan-Meier survival analysis disclosed significant differences in overall survival between the HMGB3 overexpression group and the HMGB3 no or low expression group(P = 0.006).The expected overall survival time was 31.00 ± 3.773 mo(95%CI = 23.605-38.395

克隆植物具有独特的竞争和繁殖方式,这可能会使其构建的群落呈现不一样的生物多样性-生态系统功能关系,但是本议题却极少被研究。本研究利用垂穗披碱草、花苜蓿和鹅绒委陵菜构建了一个生物多样性试验,并将单播和混播重复3次,且将垂穗披碱草作为所有混播的固定物种,以此跨越两个生长季测试生物多样性对生产力的影响。本研究发现,物种丰富度和地上生物量之间并没有线性正相关关系,但是大多数混播的净多样性效应(NE)都是显著的,且NE主要来源于非特征依赖性互补效应(TICE)。较强的TICE主要来自地上垂直空间的互补性利用;其次来自底层物种鹅绒委陵菜光吸收能力的增强。沿着时间和物种丰富度梯度,垂穗披碱草的优势度增强,鹅绒委陵菜的优势度下降,致使特征依赖型互补效应(TDCE)和优势度效应(DE)随之增强,但是它们对NE的贡献有限。另外,以上3种效应均随时间增强。总之,本研究的结果表明克隆植物群落表现出了不一样的多样性-生产力关系模式,并且这种多样性效应主要来自地上垂直空间的互补性利用。

3.0T 1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy for assessment ofsteatosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C

AIM To investigate the utility of 1H magneticresonance spectroscopy （1H MRS） as a noninvasivetest for steatosis in patients infected with hepatitis Cvirus.METHODS： Ninety patients with chronic hepatitisC and pathology data underwent 3.0T 1H MRS, andthe results of MRS and pathological analysis werecompared.RESULTS： This group of patients included 26 peoplewith mild fatty liver （28.89%）, 16 people withmoderate fatty liver （17.78%）, 18 people with severefatty liver （20.0%）, and 30 people without fatty liver（33.33%）. The water peak was near 4.7 parts permillion （ppm）, and the lipid peak was near 1.3 ppm.Analysis of variance revealed that differences in thelipid peak, the area under the lipid peak, ratio of thelipid peak to the water peak, and ratio of the areaunder the lipid peak to the area under the waterpeak were statistically significant among the groups.Specifically, as the severity of fatty liver increased, thevalue of each index increased correspondingly. In thepairwise comparisons, the mean lipid peak, area underthe lipid peak, ratio of the lipid peak to the waterpeak, and ratio of the area under the lipid peak to thearea under the water peak were significantly differentbetween the no fatty liver and moderate fatty liver groups, whereas no differences were noted betweenthe severe fatty liver group and the mild or moderatefatty liver group. Area under the ROC curve （AUC） ofarea ratio in lipid and water and ratio in lipid and waterin the no fatty liver group to mild fatty liver group, mildfatty liver group to moderate fatty liver group, andmoderate fatty liver disease group to severe fatty livergroup, were 0.705, 0.900, and 0.975, respectively.CONCLUSION： 1H MRS is a noninvasive techniquethat can be used to provide information on the effectof liver steatosis on hepatic metabolic processes. Thisstudy indicates that the 1H MRS can be used as anindicator of steatosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C.

机车车辆的噪声、振动与声振粗糙度(NVH)问题越来越受到关注,过大的振动噪声不但会降低乘坐舒适性,造成司机疲劳驾驶,还会缩短机车设备的使用寿命。与东风型内燃机车不同[1-4],HXN3型内燃机车司机室采用了枢轴支撑隔振结构(the pivot-mount isolation system)。但在运营中,该型机车出现了司机室振动过大的情况。本文将建立司机室隔振结构的6自由度动力学微分方程,计算司机室横、纵、垂三向的频率响应函数,对HXN3型内燃机车司机室隔振结构的隔振性能进行分析。

To investigate the effects of allogeneically transplanted, adipose-derived stem cells in aging rats, in the present study, we established a rat model of subacute aging using continuous subcutaneous injections of D-galactose. Two weeks after the adipose-derived stem cells transplantations, serum superoxide dismutase activity was significantly increased, malondialdehyde content was significantly reduced, hJppocampal neuronal degeneration was ameliorated, the apoptotic index of hippocampal neurons was decreased, and leaming and memory function was significantly improved in the aging rats. These results indicate that allogeneic transplantation of adipose-derived stem cells may effectively delay D-galactose-induced aging.

major causes of fever of unknown origin at Peking Union Medical College Hospital in the past 26 years

Background Despite the recent advances in medicine, fever of unknown origin （FUO） remains a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge even to expert physicians. To increase the knowledge of FUO, we conducted a retrospective study to investigate the causes of FUO and the change of major causes of FUO during the past 26 years. Methods The clinical data were retrospectively analyzed from 997 patients with FUO hospitalized at the Peking Union Medical College Hospital （PUMCH） between January 2004 and October 2010. Furthermore, the results were compared to that reported in previous studies of FUO in PUMCH since 1985. Results Of the 997 FUO cases, definite diagnosis was eventually achieved in 797 （79.9%） patients. The most common cause of FUO was infectious diseases （479 cases, 48.0%）, with tuberculosis accounting for 45.3% （217/479） of the cases of infections. One hundred and sixty-eight （16.9%） patients were diagnosed with connective tissue diseases, with Still＇s disease and vasculitis accounted for 31.5% （53/168） and 24.4% （41/168） of this category, respectively. Neoplasms and miscellaneous causes were found in 7.9% （79/997） and 7.1% （71/997）, respectively. However, no definite diagnosis had been made in the remaining 200 （20.1%） cases until they were discharged from the hospital. Conclusions During different periods, infectious diseases, especially tuberculosis, were the leading etiology of FUO and the proportion of tuberculosis had no significant difference. While the frequency of neoplasms was descending, the proportion of lymphoma in neoplasm was ascending; the frequency of undiagnosed＇cases was increasing, but in most FUO cases the causes can be diagnosed eventually after careful analysis of clinical data.

Effect of rosuvastatin on the vascular endothelial function and inflammatory cytokine in patients after PCI

Objective:To evaluate the effect of rosuvastatin on the vascular endothelial function and inflammatory cytokine in patients after PCI.Methods:A total of 120 patients with ACS who were admitted in our hospital from December, 2014 to June, 2016 were included in the study and randomized into the observation group and the control group. PCI was performed in the two groups. The patients in the control group were given routine treatments. On this basis, the patients in the observation group were given rosuvastatin (20 mg) 3 d before operation, every night before sleep, continuously for 1 month. The efficacy was evaluated 24 h and 1 month after operation. Hs-CRP, IL-10, TNF-α, vWF, ET-1, NO, TG, TC, and LDL levels before operation, 24 h and 1 month after operation in the two groups were detected.Results:vWF and ET-1 levels 1 month after operation in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group, while NO was significantly higher than that in the control group. hs-CRP, IL-10, and TNF-α 24 h and 1 month after operation in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group. TC, TG, and LDL levels 24 h and 1 month after operation in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group.Conclusions:Rosuvastatin can effectively reduce the serum inflammatory cytokine level, improve the vascular endothelial function, and decrease the occurrence of thrombus and restenosis in patients with ACS after PCI.

With the development of 3D integration technology,microsystems with vertical interconnects are attracting attention from researchers and industry applications.Basic elements of integrated passive devices(IPDs),including inductors,capacitors,and resistors,could dramatically save the footprint of the system,optimize the form factor,and improve the performance of radio frequency(RF) systems.In this paper,IPDs using thin film built-up technology are introduced,and the design and characterization of coplanar waveguides(CPWs),inductors,and capacitors are presented.

What interests them in the pictures? — Differences in eyetracking between rhesus monkeys and humans

Studies estimating eye movements have demonstrated that non-human primates have fixation patterns similar to humans at the first sight of a picture.In the current study,three sets of pictures containing monkeys,humans or both were presented to rhesus monkeys and humans.The eye movements on these pictures by the two species were recorded using a Tobii eye-tracking system.We found that monkeys paid more attention to the head and body in pictures containing monkeys,whereas both monkeys and humans paid more attention to the head in pictures containing humans.The humans always concentrated on the eyes and head in all the pictures,indicating the social role of facial cues in society.Although humans paid more attention to the hands than monkeys,both monkeys and humans were interested in the hands and what was being done with them in the pictures.This may suggest the importance and necessity of hands for survival.Finally,monkeys scored lower in eye-tracking when fixating on the pictures,as if they were less interested in looking at the screen than humans.The locations of fixation in monkeys may provide insight into the role of eye movements in an evolutionary context.
