Change trend of natural gas hydrates in permafrost on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(1960-2050)under the background of global warming and their impacts on carbon emissions

Global warming and the response to it have become a topic of concern in today’s society and are also a research focus in the global scientific community.As the world’s third pole,the global warming amplifier,and the starting region of China’s climate change,the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is extremely sensitive to climate change.The permafrost on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is rich in natural gas hydrates(NGHs)resources.Under the background of global warming,whether the NGHs will be disassociated and enter the atmosphere as the air temperature rises has become a major concern of both the public and the scientific community.Given this,this study reviewed the trend of global warming and accordingly summarized the characteristics of the temperature increase in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.Based on this as well as the distribution characteristics of the NGHs in the permafrost on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,this study investigated the changes in the response of the NGHs to global warming,aiming to clarify the impacts of global warming on the NGHs in the permafrost of the plateau.A noticeable response to global warming has been observed in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.Over the past decades,the increase in the mean annual air temperature of the plateau was increasingly high and more recently.Specifically,the mean annual air temperature of the plateau changed at a rate of approximately 0.308-0.420℃/10a and increased by approximately 1.54-2.10℃in the past decades.Moreover,the annual mean ground temperature of the shallow permafrost on the plateau increased by approximately 1.155-1.575℃and the permafrost area decreased by approximately 0.34×10^(6)km^(2) from about 1.4×10^(6)km^(2) to 1.06×10^(6)km^(2) in the past decades.As indicated by simulated calculation results,the thickness of the NGH-bearing permafrost on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau has decreased by 29-39 m in the past 50 years,with the equivalent of(1.69-2.27)×10^(10)-(1.12-1.51)×10^(12)m^(3) of methane(CH_(4))being released due to NGHs dissociation.It is predicted that the thicknes

Micro RNA transcriptome of skeletal muscle during yak development reveals that miR-652 regulates myoblasts differentiation and survival by targeting ISL1

The growth and development of skeletal muscle also determine the meat production of yak, ultimately affecting the economic benefits. Hence, improving growth performance is a top priority in the yak industry. Skeletal muscle development is a complex process involving the regulation of several genes, including microRNAs(miRNAs). However,the transcription of miRNAs in yak skeletal muscle during prenatal to postnatal stages is unknown. We used small RNA sequencing(small RNA-Seq) to determine the global miRNAs of longissimus dorsi muscle from yak(the samples were collected from three fetuses and three adults). Totally 264 differently expressed miRNAs(|log2(fold change)|>1and P-value≤0.05) were detected between the two groups. Gene Ontology(GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG) analysis showed that differently expressed miRNAs-targeted genes participated in pathways associated with muscle development, such as MAPK, PI3K-Akt, and Hippo signaling pathways, etc. MiR-652, which was up-regulated in the fetal group, was transfected into C2C12 myoblasts to examine its role. miR-652 promoted(P≤0.05)proliferation and differentiation, but inhibited(P≤0.001) apoptosis at early period. Furthermore, miR-652 reduced(P≤0.001) the proportion of C2C12 myoblasts in the G1 phase while increasing(P≤0.01) the proportion of cells in the S and G2 phases. Dual-luciferase reporter assays indicated that ISL1 served as a target of miR-652. In general, these findings expand our understanding of yak skeletal muscle miRNAs, and suggested that miR-652 probably regulated myogenesis by regulating ISL1.

Spatiotemporally-regulated multienzymatic polymerization endows hydrogel continuous gradient and spontaneous actuation

There are several natural materials which have evolved functional gradients,ingeniously attaining maximal efficacy from limited components.Herein,we utilized the spatiotemporal distribution of initiator acetylacetone to regulate the multienzyme polymerization and fabricate a chitosan-polymer hydrogel.The temporal priority order of acetylacetone was higher than phenolmodified chitosan by density functional theory calculation.The acetylacetone within the gelatin could gradually diffuse spatially into the chitosan hydrogel to fabricate the composite hydrogel with gradient network structure.The gradient hydrogel possessed a transferring topography from the two-dimensional pattern.A continuously decreased modulus along with acetylacetone diffusion was confirmed by atomic force microscope-based force mapping experiment.The water-retaining ability of various regions was confirmed by low-field nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)and thermogravimetric analysis(TG)analysis,which led to the spontaneous actuation of gradient hydrogel with maximum 1821°/h curling speed and 227°curling angle.Consequently,the promising gradient hydrogels could be applied as intelligent actuators and flexible robots.

Traditional Chinese medicine molecule-assisted chemical synthesis of fluorescent anti-cancer silicon nanoparUcles

Fluorescent silicon （Si） nanopartides （SiNPs） hold great promise for innumerable biological and biomedical applications owing to their unique optical properties and negligible toxicity. In this article, we present a new traditional Chinese medicine （TCM） molecule-assisted chemical synthetic strateg36 suitable for the production of multifunctional small-sized （diameter： - 3.7 nm） SiNPs in a facile and rapid （- 10 min） manner. Of particular significance, the resultant SiNPs simultaneously exhibited robust and stable fluorescence （photoluminescence quantum yield （PLQY）： ~ 15%）, as well as intrinsic anti-cancer efficacy with excellent selectivity toward cancer cells. Taking advantage of these unique merits, we further employed these novel fluorescent anti-cancer SiNPs （AC-SiNPs） for the fluorescence tracking and treatment of tumors, demonstrating long-term （~ 18 days） inhibition of tumor growth in tumor-bearing mice. Consequently, we believe this new TCM-assisted chemical synthetic method is highly attractive for designing silicon nanostructures featuring multiple functionalities, and we suggest these AC-SiNPs as novel promising tools for providing visual evidence of TCM-based cancer treatment.

This article presents a highly efficient method for substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) filters to achieve very wide stopbands. By employing the proposed trisection slots in addition to the bisection slots as the inter-coupling structures, all spurious modes below TE505 of a SIW filter working in the fundamental mode TE101 (f0)can be eliminated without requiring additional structure or complex theoretical analysis, without affecting the design of the fundamental passbands, and without degrading the performance of the filters. For verification, two prototype filters are designed, fabricated, and measured with wide stopbands up to 4.15 f0and 4.83 f0, respectively. The proposed technique could facilitate the development of high-performance wide-stopband SIW filters for microwave/wireless circuits and systems.

Organoids are three-dimensional(3D)miniature structures cultured in vitro produced from either human pluripotent stem cells(hPSCs)or adult stem cells(AdSCs)derived from healthy individuals or patients that recapitulate the cellular heterogeneity,structure,and functions of human organs.The advent of human 3D organoid systems is now possible to allow remarkably detailed observation of stem cell morphogens,maintenance and differentiation resemble primary tissues,enhancing the potential to study both human physiology and developmental stage.As they are similar to their original organs and carry human genetic information,organoids derived from patient hold great promise for biomedical research and preclinical drug testing and is currently used for personalized,regenerative medicine,gene repair and transplantation therapy.In recent decades,researchers have succeeded in generating various types of organoids mimicking in vivo organs.Herein,we provide an update on current in vitro differentiation technologies of brain,retinal,kidney,liver,lung,gastrointestinal,cardiac,vascularized and multi-lineage organoids,discuss the differences between PSC-and AdSC-derived organoids,summarize the potential applications of stem cell-derived organoids systems in the laboratory and clinic,and outline the current challenges for the application of organoids,which would deepen the understanding of mechanisms of human development and enhance further utility of organoids in basic research and clinical studies.

Improving the long-term cycling stability and energy density of all-solid-state lithium(Li)-metal batteries(ASSLMBs)at room temperature is a severe challenge because of the notorious solid–solid interfacial contact loss and sluggish ion transport.Solid electrolytes are generally studied as two-dimensional(2D)structures with planar interfaces,showing limited interfacial contact and further resulting in unstable Li/electrolyte and cathode/electrolyte interfaces.Herein,three-dimensional(3D)architecturally designed composite solid electrolytes are developed with independently controlled structural factors using 3D printing processing and post-curing treatment.Multiple-type electrolyte films with vertical-aligned micro-pillar(p-3DSE)and spiral(s-3DSE)structures are rationally designed and developed,which can be employed for both Li metal anode and cathode in terms of accelerating the Li+transport within electrodes and reinforcing the interfacial adhesion.The printed p-3DSE delivers robust long-term cycle life of up to 2600 cycles and a high critical current density of 1.92 mA cm^(−2).The optimized electrolyte structure could lead to ASSLMBs with a superior full-cell areal capacity of 2.75 mAh cm^(−2)(LFP)and 3.92 mAh cm^(−2)(NCM811).This unique design provides enhancements for both anode and cathode electrodes,thereby alleviating interfacial degradation induced by dendrite growth and contact loss.The approach in this study opens a new design strategy for advanced composite solid polymer electrolytes in ASSLMBs operating under high rates/capacities and room temperature.

Au plasmon enhanced high performance β-Ga2O3 solar-blind photo-detector

Surface plasmon polariton(SPP) is electro-magnetic wave coupled to free electron oscillations near the surface of metal, and has been used to improve the photoelectric properties in many optoelectronic devices. In the present study, the Au nanoparticles(NPs)/β-GaOcomposite thin film was fabricated through depositing Au ultra-thin film on the β-GaOthin film followed by post-thermal treatment. Compared to bare β-GaOthin film, a significant absorption around 510 nm, which is attributed to SPP of Au NPs, was observed in the UV–vis spectrum of Au NPs/β-GaOcomposite thin film. The results showed that the photoresponse of Au NPs/GaOphotodetector illuminated under 254 nm +532 nm light was much higher than that illuminated under 254 nm light, indicating an enhancement of photoelectric property for the solar-blind photodetector based on β-GaOthin film.

Endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR)and endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD)are well-established therapeutics for gastrointestinal neoplasias,but complications after EMR/ESD,including bleeding and perforation,result in additional treatment morbidity and even threaten the lives of patients.Thus,designing biomaterials to treat gastric bleeding and wound healing after endoscopic treatment is highly desired and remains a challenge.Herein,a series of injectable pH-responsive selfhealing adhesive hydrogels based on acryloyl-6-aminocaproic acid(AA)and AA-g-N-hydroxysuccinimide(AA-NHS)were developed,and their great potential as endoscopic sprayable bioadhesive materials to efficiently stop hemorrhage and promote the wound healing process was further demonstrated in a swine gastric hemorrhage/wound model.The hydrogels showed a suitable gelation time,an autonomous and efficient self-healing capacity,hemostatic properties,and good biocompatibility.With the introduction of AA-NHS as a micro-cross-linker,the hydrogels exhibited enhanced adhesive strength.A swine gastric hemorrhage in vivo model demonstrated that the hydrogels showed good hemostatic performance by stopping acute arterial bleeding and preventing delayed bleeding.A gastric wound model indicated that the hydrogels showed excellent treatment effects with significantly enhanced wound healing with type I collagen deposition,α-SMA expression,and blood vessel formation.These injectable self-healing adhesive hydrogels exhibited great potential to treat gastric wounds after endoscopic treatment.

Room-temperature ligancy engineering of perovskite electrocatalyst for enhanced electrochemical water oxidation

Perovskite oxides are significant candidates to develop electrochemical catalysts for water oxidation in consideration of their high catalysis capacity,low costing and excellent stability.Rational design of coordination structure and overcoming poor electronic transport are regarded as critical factors for outstanding perovskite-based oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts.Herein,we report a mild chemical oxidation method to realize ligancy engineering from strongly-correlated brownmillerite Sr2Co2O5 to perovskite phase Sr2Co2O5.5,along with abundant oxygen vacancies formation and greatly boosted electric conductivity,which helps to form the active species of Co hydroxide/oxide on the surface of catalysts.The coupling effect of catalytic kinetics and unimpeded electronic movement brings high OER activities in Sr2Co2O5.5 with a low onset potential and a small Tafel slope.Our work not only displays in-depth understanding into the relationship among catalysis performance and multiple physical degrees of freedom,but also paves a new path to develop high-efficient electrochemical catalysts.
