Chronic kidney disease(CKD) is encountered in millions of people worldwide,with continuously rising incidence during the past decades,affecting their quality of life despite the increase of life expectancy in these *** of sexual function is common among men with CKD,as both conditions share common pathophysiological causes,such as vascular or hormonal abnormalities and are both affected by similar coexisting comorbid conditions such as cardiovascular disease,hypertension and diabetes *** estimated prevalence of erectile dysfunction reaches 70% in end stage renal disease ***,sexual dysfunction remains under-recognized and under-treated in a high proportion of these patients,a fact which should raise awareness among clinicians.A multifactorial approach in management and treatment is undoubtedly required in order to improve patients' quality of life and cardiovascular outcomes.

AIM: To investigate the effect of rosuvastatin monotherapy on non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH). At present there is no effective treatment for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease or its advanced form ***: This prospective study included 20 biopsy proven patients with NASH, metabolic syndrome(Met S) and dyslipidaemia. Biochemical parameters of the blood of the patients and an ultrasonography of the liver were performed at baseline. Then patients receivedlifestyle advice and were treated for a 12 mo period with rosuvastatin(10 mg/d) monotherapy. Patients were re-evaluated during the study at 3 mo intervals, during which biochemical parameters of the blood were measured including liver enzymes. A repeat biopsy and ultrasonography of the liver were performed at the end of the study in all 20 patients. Changes in liver enzymes, fasting plasma glucose, serum creatinine, serum uric acid(SUA), high sensitivity C reactive protein(hs CRP) and lipid profile were assessed every 3 mo. The primary endpoint was the resolution of NASH and the secondary endpoints were the changes in liver enzyme and lipid ***: The repeat liver biopsy and ultrasonography showed complete resolution of NASH in 19 patients, while the 20 th, which had no improvement but no deterioration either, developed arterial hypertension and substantial rise in triglyceride levels during the study, probably due to changes in lifestyle including alcohol abuse. Serum alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase, and γ-glutamyl transpeptidase were normalised by the 3rd treatment month(ANOVA P < 0.001), while alkaline phosphatase activities by the 6th treatment month(ANOVA, P = 0.01). Fasting plasma glucose and glycated haemoglobin were significantly reduced(P < 0.001). Lipid values were normalised by the 3rd treatment month. No patient had Met S by the 9th treatment month. Small bowel metastases from primary carcinoma of the lung are very uncommon and occur usually in patients with terminal stage disease. These metastases are usually asymptomatic, but may present as perforation, obstruction, malabsorption, or hemorrhage. Hemorrhage as a first presentation of small bowel metastases is extremely rare and is related to very poor patient survival. We describe a case of a 61- year old patient with primary adenocarcinoma of the lung, presenting with melena as the first manifestation of small bowel metastasis. Both primary tumor and metastatic lesions were diagnosed almost simultaneously. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy performed with a colonoscope revealed active bleeding from a metastatic tumor involving the duodenum and the proximal jejunum. Histological examination and immunohistochemical staining of the biopsy specimen strongly supported the diagnosis of metastatic lung adenocarcinoma, suggesting that small bowel metastases from primary carcinoma of the lung occur usually in patients with terminal disease and rarely produce symptoms. Gastrointestinal bleeding from metastatic small intestinal lesions should be included in the differential diagnosis of gastrointestinal blood loss in a patient with a known bronchogenic tumor.

Treatment of patients with chronic kidney disease(CKD) and chronic hepatitis C(CHC) differs from that used in the general CHC population mostly when glomerular filtration rate(GFR) is below 30 m L/min, as sofosbuvir, the backbone of several current regimens, is officially contraindicated. Given that ribavirin free regimens are preferable in CKD, elbasvir/grazoprevir is offered in CHC patients with genotype 1 or 4 and ombitasvir/paritaprevir and dasabuvir in genotype 1b for 12 wk. Although regimens containing peginterferon with or without ribavirin are officially recommended for patients with CKD and genotype 2, 3, 5, 6, such regimens are rarely used because of their low efficacy and the poor safety and tolerance profile. In this setting, especially in the presence of advanced liver disease, sofosbuvirbased regimens are often used, despite sofosbuvir contraindication. It seems to have good overall safety with only 6% or 3.4% of CKD patients to discontinue therapy or develop serious adverse events without drug discontinuation. In addition, sustained virological response(SVR) rates with sofosbuvir based regimens in CKD patients appear to be comparable with SVR rates in patients with normal renal function. Treatment recommendations for kidney transplant recipients are the same with those for patients with CHC, taking into consideration potential drug-drug interactions and baseline GFR before treatment initiation. This review summarizes recent data on the current managementof CHC in CKD patients highlighting their strengths and weaknesses and determining their usefulness in clinical practice.

Cereal crops are significant contributors to global *** climate change disrupts weather patterns and wreaks havoc on crops,the need for generating stress-resilient,high-yielding varieties is more urgent than *** extremely promising avenue in this regard is to exploit the tremendous genetic diversity expressed by the wild ancestors of current day crop *** crop wild relatives thrive in a range of environments and accordingly often harbor an array of traits that allow them to do *** identification and introgression of these traits into our staple cereal crops can lessen yield losses in stressful *** the last decades,a surge in extreme drought and flooding events have severely impacted cereal crop *** models predict a persistence of this trend,thus reinforcing the need for research on water stress *** we review:(i)how water stress(drought and flooding)impacts crop performance;and(ii)how identification of tolerance traits and mechanisms from wild relatives of the main cereal crops,that is,rice,maize,wheat,and barley,can lead to improved survival and sustained yields in these crops under water stress conditions.

Focal nodular hyperplasia （FNH） is a relatively rare benign hepatic tumor, usually presenting as a solitary lesion; however, multiple Iocalizations have also been described. The association of FNH with other hepatic lesions, such as adenomas and haemangiomas has been reported by various authors. We herein report a case of a hepatocellular carcinoma arising within a large focal nodular hyperplasia, in a young female patient.

Once invertibility for a causal TARMA series is defined and accompanied by conditions on the probability parameters of the model, all focus concentrates on the maximum likelihood estimators. Under the coexistence of essential causality and invertibility, the estimators are shown to be convergent to the real values and asymptotically obedient to the Gaussian distribution: their variance matrix identifies with a classic result. Some real-like examples are simulated and simplification attempts include the derivation of the non-parametric chi-square test extension for stationary TAR series.

This study is based on the combination of the following three primary pylons:(1)Literature;(2)Information—Communication Technology;(3)Utilization of digital means in the educational *** objective of this project is the utilization of the concordance with the help of AntConc application in the educational approach and specifically in the subject of Modern Greek *** the contribution of the above application,the educational process makes it more effective to comprehend a particularly hard kind of literature such as ***,Kyriakos Charalambides’1 poetry can be approached in both a different and an imaginative way,compared to the traditional textual way and as a result poetry can become more attractive for the *** project is focused on the poetic work of Kyriakos Charalambides,which consists of thirteen collections of *** reference text,which is included in the textbook“Modern Greek Texts”taught in the 2nd Grade of High School and is part of the curriculum,is a poem called“Sweet Preserves”(Charalambides,2000).The objective is to investigate whether in practice and particularly in the subject of Modern Greek literature,the above mentioned application can be utilized through the search of the literal type“soil”,through AntConc application for tracing the appearance frequency of this word and by extension the highlighting of this thematic motif in the poetic work of Kyriakos ***,in order that both the students’response(whether the objective was reached and the educational mediations were successful)and a certain level of awareness have been achieved,a questionnaire was distributed among the students and the students’answers were decoded through a specific type of software called SPSS so that the relevant outcomes were extracted.

The term“IgY technology”was introduced in the literature in the mid 1990s to describe a procedure involving immunization of avian species,mainly laying hens and consequent isolation of the polyclonal IgYs from the“immune”egg yolk(thus avoiding bleeding and animal stress).IgYs have been applied to various fields of medicine and *** present article will deal with specific aspects of IgY technology,focusing on the currently reported methods for developing,isolating,evaluating and storing polyclonal *** topics such as current information on isolation protocols or evaluation of IgYs from different avian species are also *** advantages of IgY technology(e.g.,novel antibody specificities that may emerge via the avian immune system)will also be *** in vitro applications of polyclonal egg yolk-derived IgYs to the field of disease diagnosis in human and veterinary medicine through in vitro immunodetection of target biomolecules will be ***,ethical aspects associated with animal well-being as well as new promising approaches that are relevant to the original IgY technology(e.g.,development of monoclonal IgYs and IgY-like antibodies through the phage display technique or in transgenic chickens)and future prospects in the area will also be mentioned.
