AIM to describe racial/ethnic differences in treatment and survival among liver cancer patients in a populationbased cancer *** Invasive cases of primary hepatocellular carcinoma, n = 33270, diagnosed between January 1, 1988-December 31, 2012 and reported to the California Cancer Registry were analyzed by race/ethnicity, age, gender, geographical region, socio-economic status, time period of diagnosis, stage, surgical treatment, and survival. Patients were classified into 15 racial/ethnic groups: non-Hispanic White(White, n = 12710), Hispanic(n = 8500), Chinese(n = 2723), non-Hispanic Black(Black, n = 2609), Vietnamese(n = 2063), Filipino(n = 1479), Korean(n = 1099), Japanese(n = 658), American Indian/Alaskan Native(AIAN, n = 281), Laotian/Hmong (n = 244), Cambodian(n = 233), South Asian(n = 190), Hawai`ian/Pacific Islander(n = 172), thai(n = 95), and Other Asian(n = 214). the main outcome measures were receipt of surgical treatment, and cause-specific and all-cause *** After adjustment for socio-demographic characteristics, time period, and stage of disease, compared to Whites, Laotian/Hmong [odds ratio(OR) = 0.30, 95%CI: 0.17-0.53], Cambodian(OR = 0.65, 95%CI: 0.45-0.96), AIAN(OR = 0.66, 95%CI: 0.46-0.93), Black(OR = 0.76, 95%CI: 0.67-0.86), and Hispanic(OR = 0.78, 95%CI: 0.72-0.84) patients were less likely, whereas Chinese(OR = 1.58, 95%CI: 1.42-1.77), Koreans(OR = 1.45, 95%CI: 1.24-1.70), Japanese(OR = 1.41, 95%CI: 1.15-1.72), and Vietnamese(OR = 1.26, 95%CI: 1.12-1.42) were more likely to receive surgical treatment. BACKGROUND Juvenile polyposis syndrome(JPS)is a rare hereditary polyposis disease frequently associated with an autosomal-dominant variant of the SMAD4 or BMPR1A *** often manifests with symptoms in children and adolescents and is infrequently diagnosed in asymptomatic *** the diagnosis is important as patients with JPS have a high risk of developing gastrointestinal cancer and require genetic counselling and close routine *** SUMMARY We report on the case of a 56-year-old female diagnosed with JPS after genetic testing revealed a rare variant of the BMPR1A gene BMPR1A c.1409t>C(***470thr).She was initially referred for colonoscopy by her general practitioner after testing positive on a screening faecal immunochemical test and subsequently found to have polyposis throughout the entire colorectum on her index screening *** patient was asymptomatic with a normal physical examination and no related medical or family *** tests revealed only mild iron deficiency without *** date,there has only been one other reported case of JPS with the same genetic *** colonoscopies were organised for complete polyp clearance and the patient was returned for surveillance *** JPS patients can present with no prior symptoms or family *** testing plays an important diagnostic role guiding management.

the gaseous phytohormone ethylene regulates many developmental processes and responses to environmental conditions in higher plants. In Arabidopsis thaliana, ethylene perception and initiation of signaling are mediated by a family of five receptors which are related to prokaryotic two-component sensor histidine kinases. the transient ex- pression of fluorescence-tagged receptors in tobacco （Nicotiana benthamiana） epidermal leaf cells demonstrated that all ethylene receptors are targeted to the ER endomembrane network and do not localize to the plasmalemma. In support of in planta overlay studies, the ethylene receptors form homomeric and heteromeric protein complexes at the ER in living plant cells, as shown by membrane recruitment assays. A comparable in vivo interaction pattern was found in the yeast mating-based split-ubiquitin system. the overlapping but distinct expression pattern of the ethylene receptor genes suggests a differential composition of the ethylene receptor complexes in different plant tissues. Our findings may have crucial functional implications on the ethylene receptor-mediated efficiency of hormone perception, induction of signaling, signal attenuation and output.

Predictors of a Cerebrovascular Accident in a Population of Systemic Sclerosis Patients Followed at a Large Academic Center with a Dedicated Scleroderma Center

Aim: the aim of this study is to describe the clinical characteristics of patients with a diagnosis of systemic sclerosis who later suffer a stroke and to identify associations for this relationship. Background: Prior studies have showed an increased risk of cardiovascular disease among patients with chronic inflammatory disorders, with chronic inflammation leading to atherosclerosis believed to be the culprit. Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by diffuse fibrosis of the skin and internal organs. Previous studies have suggested a possible link between systemic sclerosis and macrovascular complications such as stroke. Methods: this is a retrospective chart review of patients treated within the University of Pennsylvania Health System from October 2015 to April 2019 with a diagnosis of SSc. Using ICD10 codes, we identified a cohort of SSc patients who suffered a stroke. Information regarding demographics and stroke risk factors were gathered from the charts of patients with a diagnosis of both SSc plus stroke and compared to a control group of randomly selected patients with SSc who never suffered a stroke. Continuous variables were conveyed using a mean plus a standard deviation. A two-sample t-test was used to compare the two groups of patients. Qualitative variables were compared using a two-tailed Fisher’s exact test. Results: Based on a large cohort of SSc patients (n = 2080) followed between October 2015 and April 2019, we identified 36 SSc patients who developed a subsequent stroke (1.7% of cohort). When looking at risk factors for stroke in SSc patients, we identified hypertension and atrial fibrillation to be associated with the diagnosis of stroke in such patients. Specifically, 28 of the 36 patients with both SSc and stroke also had a diagnosis of hypertension while in the control group, only 17 of 36 patients had hypertension. Nitrogen Fertilization as Ammonium or Nitrate-N on <i>Hippeastrum hybridum</i>Bulb Growth

Hippeastrum (Hippeastrum hybridum), a native of Central and South America, is a bulbous ornamental flowering plant in the Amaryllidaceae family. However, the correct balance of NH4 to NO3-nitrogen in a fertilizer mix for Hippeastrum plants is largely unknown. Nitrogen was applied 2x weekly following irrigation at either 0.6 g (high), 0.3 g (medium) or 0.15 g (low) total N every four months. Nitrogen was supplied in different combinations of NO3 and/or NH4. Nitrate:NH4-N ratios were either 100% NO3:0% NH4 (100NO3), 70% NO3:30% NH4 (70NO3), 50% NO3:50% NH4 (50NO3) (second group only), 30%NO3:70%NH4 (30NO3), or 0% NO3/100% NH4 (100NH4). Growth in bulb diameter after one year of fertilizer treatments not only increased from 0.15 to 0.6 g N (low to high level), but also differed with the form of N supplied to the plant. the largest diameter bulbs were produced in the 70NO3 and 50NO3 high N treatments. Within any NO3/NH4-N ratio grouping, fertilization at the high N rate resulted in larger diameter bulbs. No significant differences existed between treatments in the number of bulbs produced. Bulb growth was greater with a portion of N supplied as NO3 than with NH4-N alone. these results indicate that application of N as a mixture of NH4 and NO3 at 0.6 g per 4 months produces the largest increase in bulb diameter.

With a unique and large size of testing results of 1,842 samples collected from 12 wastewater treatment plants (WWtP) for 14 months through from low to high prevalence of COVID-19,the sensitivity of Rt-qPCR detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in wastewater that correspond to the communities was computed by using Probit *** study determined the number of new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population required to detect SARS-CoV-2RNA in wastewater at defined probabilities and provided an evidence-based framework of wastewater-based epidemiology surveillance (WBE).Input data were positive and negative test results of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in wastewater samples and the corresponding new COVID-19 case rates per 100,000 population served by each *** analyses determined that Rt-qPCR-based SARS-CoV-2 RNA detection threshold at 50%,80%and 99%probability required a median of 8 (range:4-19),18 (9-43),and 38 (17-97) of new COVID-19 cases/100,000,***,the positive detection rate at 50%,80%and 99%probability were 0.01%,0.02%,and 0.04%averagely for new cases in the *** study improves understanding of the performance of WBE SARS-CoV-2 RNA detection using the large datasets and prolonged study *** COVID-19 burden at a community level that would result in a positive detection of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater is critical to support WBE application as a supplementary warning/monitoring system for COVID-19 prevention and control.

Electro-and photochemical studies of gold (Ⅲ) bromide towards a novel laser-based method of gold patterning

In this report, we demonstrate a novel technique for the microscopic patterning of gold by combining the photoreduction of Au^(Ⅲ)Br_(2)^(-)to Au^(Ⅰ)Br_(2)^(-)and the electrochemical reduction of Au^(Ⅰ)Br_(2)^(-)to elemental gold in a single step within solution. While mask-based methods have been the norm for electroplating, the adoption of direct laser writing for flexible, real-time patterning has not been widespread. through irradiation using a 405 nm laser and applying a voltage corresponding to a selective potential window specific to Au^(Ⅰ)Br_(2)^(-), we have shown that we can locally deposit elemental gold at the focal point of the laser. In addition to demonstrating the feasibility of the technique, we have collected data on the kinetics of the photoreduction reaction in ethanol and have deduced its rate law. We have confirmed the selective deposition of Au^(Ⅰ)Br_(2)^(-) within a potential window through controlled potential electrolysis experiments and through direct measurement on a quartz crystal microbalance. Finally, we have verified local deposition through scanning electron microscopy.

thulium：YAG VapoEnucleation of the prostate in large glands： a prospective comparison using 70- and 120-W 2-μm lasers

this study compared the efficacy of 70- and 120-w 2-μm thulium：YAG VapoEnucleation of the prostate （thuVEP） for patients with benign prostatic obstruction （BPO）. A prospective analysis of 84 patients with symptomatic BPO and prostatic enlargement （t〉 60 ml） who underwent either 70-w （n=44） or 120-w thuVEP （n=40） non-randomly was carried out. Patient demographics and perioperative and 12-month follow-up data were analysed. the mean prostate volume was 79.90---27.49 ml in patients who had received 70-w thuVEP, which was less than in those who had received 120-w thuVEP （88.53＋-25.10; P=0.033）. the mean enucleation （resected weight/laser time, 2.16±1.21 g min-1 vs. 1.23±0.60 g min-1; P=-0.013）, operation efficiency （resected weight/total operation time, 0.76±0.35 g min-1 vs. 0.42＋-0.27 g min-1; P=-0.000） and percentage of resected tissue （66.93%±22.79% vs. 45.41%±23.33%; P=-0.000） were higher with 120-w treatment compared to 70-w thuVEP. One patient （1.2% of total patients）（in the 120-w group） required a blood transfusion postoperatively. Sixty-one patients （73%） were available for review at the 12-month follow-up time point. the quality of life （QoL）, International Prostate Symptom Score （IPSS）, maximum urinary flow rate （Qmax）, postvoiding residual urine （PVR） and prostate volume improved significantly after treatment （P≤ 0.035） and were not significantly different between those treated with the different devices （70- and 120-w）. the median prostate volume reduction was 81.70% and 82.19% with 70- and 120-w thuVEP, respectively. the incidence of complications was low and did not differ between groups treated with the different devices. two patients （2.4%）（one per group） had a bladder neck contracture at the follow-up. thuVEP is a safe and efficacious procedure for the treatment of symptomatic BPO. the incidence of complications was low with both devices. the 120-w thulium：YAG device enhances the effectiveness of th,VEP with reeard to the oercentaee of resected tissue

SWI1 Is Required for Meiotic Chromosome Remodeling Events

the Arabidopsis dsy10 mutant was previously identified as being defective in the synapsis of meiotic chromosomes resulting in male and female sterility. We report here the molecular analysis of the mutation and show that it represents a t-DNA insertion in the third exon of the SWll gene. Four mutations have now been identified in SWI1, several of which exhibit different phenotypes. For example, the swil- 1 and dyad mutations only affect meiosis in megasporocytes, while the swil-2 and dsy10 mutations block both male and female meiosis. Furthermore, as part of a detailed cytological characterization of dsy10 meiocytes, we identified several differences during male meiosis between the swil-2 and dys10 mutants, including variations in the formation of axial elements, the distribution of cohesin proteins and the timing of the premature loss of sister chromatid cohesion. We demonstrate that dsy10 represents a complete loss-of-function mutation, while a truncated form of SWll is expressed during meiosis in swil-2 plants. We further show that dys10 meiocytes exhibit alterations in modified histone patterns, including acetylated histone H3 and dimethylated histone H3-Lysine 4.
