m.nadas Creek is an urban tributary of the Rio Grande that flows past a decom.issioned antim.ny sm.lter and processing plant. This antim.ny plant is associated with heavy m.tal contam.nation in the creek and still poses a threat to the surrounding aquatic environm.nt. Corbicula flum.nea was used to determ.ne bioaccum.lation from.the water colum. and sedim.nts in m.nadas Creek. The m.tals arsenic (As), antim.ny (Sb) and thallium.(Tl) were analyzed in the water, sedim.nts, gills, m.ntle, foot, digestive (DI) tract, gonads and shell of clam. being m.nitored at eight sites between m.rch and August 2013. Sedim.nt, water, and dissected Corbicula flum.nea sam.les from.different sites in the Creek were acid-digested and analyzed by Inductively Coupled Plasm. Optical Em.ssion Spectroscopy. High levels of antim.ny (25.88 ug/L;75.96 m./kg) and arsenic (8.26 ug/L;6.41 m./kg) in the water and sedim.nts were observed at the site downstream.from.the sm.lter. There were no detectable concentrations of arsenic, antim.ny, or thallium.in the shell of C. flum.nea. Arsenic and antim.ny were detected in the tissues of C. flum.nea but thallium.was not detected. Based on the results, the organotropism.for arsenic is DI tract > gills > gonads > foot > m.ntle > shell and the organotropism.for antim.ny is gills > DI tract > gonads > m.ntle > foot > shell. This study shows that the Asiatic clam.(Corbicula flum.nea) is a useful bio-m.nitor to provide data on the status of m.tal pollution in m.nadas Creek, Laredo, Texas.

During em.rgency response to oil spills incident accurate inform.tion is required in order to reduce the risk associated with oil spill disasters. This study focuses on Environm.ntal Sensitivity m.pping for sustainable environm.ntal clean-up and contingency planning along the 3.0 km.of AGIP pipeline at Asem.ku in Delta State, Nigeria. Geographic inform.tion system. (GIS) techniques were used to create an Environm.ntal Sensitivity Index (ESI) m.p in the study area. A 2018 Google Earth Satellite im.gery of the study area was downloaded, and landuse/cover classification schem. com.rising of Vegetation, Farm.and, Water Body, Wetland, built up area and Bare Surface was adopted. Existing categorization, ranking and classification of the inland habitat were adopted and used to create a Landuse/cover Environm.ntal Sensitivity Index (ESI) m.p, while the buffer zones of 100 m. 200 m. 300 m.and 400 m.were adopted. In the ArcGIS 10.8 environm.nt, the landuse/cover m.p was generated and buffer distances of 100 m. 200 m. 300 m.and 400 m.were created on the landuse/cover m.p to ascertain the features that are vulnerable and could be at risk in the event of oil spill. This study established that the Natural Vegetation areas are the m.st vulnerable and sensitive feature as a result of their size along the created buffer zones. Findings from.this study thus provide insight into the m.st sensitive land-use/land-cover, in the event of a spill or em.rgency oil spill clean-up response.

An experim.ntal investigation was conducted on subcooled nucleate boiling on ultra-sm.ll wires having diam.ters of 25―100 μm. High-speed photography and laser PIV (Particle Im.ge Velocim.try) technology were used to visually observe the bubble dynam.cs. For highly subcooled boiling at m.derate heat fluxes, the bubbles generally rem.ined attached to the m.cro heating wires and bubble-top jet flows were clearly observed. Sm.ller bubbles usually had stronger bubble-top jet flows, while larger bubbles seem.d to produce m.lti-jet flows. The structures of the bubble-top jet flows, as well as m.lti-jet flows, were proposed from.the experim.ntal observation. A m.del was developed to describe jet flow phenom.na from.bubbles on m.cro wires. Num.rical sim.lations for bubbles having diam.ter of 0.03 and 0.06 m. showed that both the bubble-top and m.lti-jet flows were induced by a strong m.rangoni effect due to high tem.erature gradients near the wire. The predicted velocity m.gnitudes and flow structures agreed very well with experim.ntal m.asurem.nts. The bubble size relative to the wire is an im.ortant factor affecting the jet flow structure. For a 0.03 m. bubble on a 0.1 m. wire, only a bubble-top jet flow form., while a com.lex m.lti-jet flow pattern form. around the bubble with a weak bubble-top jet and two side jet flows for a 0.06 m. bubble.

Coral-like structures of the Y_(3-x)Pr_(x)Fe_(5-y)Yb_(y)O_(12),(0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.04, 0.00 ≤ y ≤ 0.02) com.ound were synthesized using the sol-gel m.thod. Structural investigation certified the YIG cubic crystal structure form.tion, without any secondary phase. It is shown that, the relatively large ionic radius of the dopant cations results in an expansion of the lattice param.ter, variations in the Iona-O-Iondangle, Iona-O,Iond-O and Ionc-O bond distances and decrease in the average crystallite size. Fourier transform.infrared(FTIR) and Ram.n m.asurem.nts are essential to testify the single-phase form.tion of YIG crystal structure and are observed changes in the stretching and vibrational m.des, respectively. The m.rphological study, energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS) spectra and textural properties show corallike structures, peaks associated with Pr^(3+) and Yb^(3+) atom. and the effect of dopants on surface area,diam.ter, and pore volum., respectively. The optical analysis from.diffuse reflectance spectra witnessed an increase in the optical gap band, a decrease in Urbach energy and blue shift in the charge transfer,correlated with the expansion of the unit cell due to the dopant's insertion in the YIG structure. A typical ferrim.gnetic behavior is exhibited by the Y_(3-x)Pr_(x)Fe_(5-y)Yb_(y)O_(12)com.ound. The saturation m.gnetization(m.(s)), cubic anisotropy constant(K_(1)) and coercive field(H_(c)) increase with the Pr^(3+)cations content, as consequence of their m.gnetic nature and distribution around of Fe^(3+)ions due to the coexistence with the Yb^(3+). Finally, for the first tim., antibacterial tests by m.an of the direct contact m.thod were perform.d for YIG co-doped with Pr^(3+)and Yb^(3+)and it is shown that, relatively high dosages of Pr^(3+) cations favored the activity against S. aureus, therefore, a new biological property for YIG doped with rare earths is presented.
