Predicting single-phase solid solutions in as-sputtered high entropy alloys:High-throughput screening with machine-learning model

Searching for single-phase solid solutions(SPSSs)in high-entropy alloys(HEAs)is a prerequisite for the intentional design and manipulation of microstructures of alloys in vast composition ***,to date,reported SPSS HEAs are still rare due to the lack of reliable guiding principles for the synthesis of new SPSS ***,we demonstrate an ensemble machine-learning method capable of discovering SPSS HEAs by directly predicting quinary phase diagrams based only on atomic composition.A total of 2198 experimental structure data are extracted from as-sputtered quinary HEAs in the literature and used to train a random forest classifier(termed AS-RF)utilizing bagging,achieving a prediction accuracy of 94.6%compared with experimental *** AS-RF model is then utilized to predict 224 quinary phase diagrams including∼32,000 SPSS HEAs in Cr-Co-Fe-Ni-Mn-Cu-Al composition *** extrapolation capability of the AS-RF model is then validated by performing first-principle calculations using density functional theory as a benchmark for the predicted phase transition of newly predicted ***,interpretation of the AS-RF model weighting of the input parameters also sheds light on the driving forces behind HEA formation in sputtered systems with the main contributors being:valance electron concentration,work function,atomic radius difference and elementary symmetries.

Three‐dimensional(3D)printing has the potential to revolutionize the way energy storage devices are designed and *** this paper,we explore the use of 3D printing in the design and production of energy storage devices,especially zinc‐ion batteries(ZIBs)and examine its potential advantages over traditional manufacturing methods.3D printing could significantly improve the customization of ZIBs,making it a promising strategy for the future of energy *** particular,3D printing allows for the creation of complex,customized geometries,and designs that can optimize the energy density,power density,and overall performance of ***,we discuss and compare the impact of 3D printing design strategies based on different configurations of film,interdigitation,and framework on energy storage devices with a focus on ***,3D printing enables the rapid prototyping and production of batteries,reducing leading times and costs compared with traditional manufacturing ***,there are also challenges and limitations to consider,such as the need for further development of suitable 3D printing materials and processes for energy storage applications.

The Himalayan-Tibetan orogen system serves as the modern paradigm for understanding convergence-related processes in orogenic belts. The advancements made studying the region have been applied to other ancient orogenic belts leading not only to a better understanding of their development, but also of secular changes in collisional processes. As more advanced methodologies are introduced and utilized in geological research, the type, scale, and quality of data available enable quantification of geological processes not previously possible. These complex and robust datasets now form the core of many of the research proj.cts undertaken across the Himalaya and continue to provide unprecedented insight into the myriad different aspects of the evolution of the collisional system.

We presented a quantity j.dgment task that involved comparing two sequentially presented sets of items to preschoolers and chimpanzees using nearly identical procedures that excluded verbal instructions to children. Trial difficulty in this task reflected the ratio difference between sets of discrete items where larger ratios (e.g., 0.80 as from comparing 4 to 5) were more difficult than smaller ones (e.g., 0.50 as from comparing 4 to 8). Children also completed verbal-based tasks probing the relationship between counting proficiency and performance on the quantity j.dgment task of sequentially presented identical sized items. Both species’ performance was best when ratios between comparison sets were small regardless of set size in all types of tasks. Generally, chimpanzees and older children performed better than younger children except at larger ratios. Children’s counting proficiency was not related to success in choosing the larger of two quantities of identical-sized items. These results indicate that chimpanzees and children share an approximate number sense that is reflected through analog magnitude estimation when comparing quantities.

Obj.ctive:This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of implementing a manual therapy technique(muscle energy technique,MET)protocol in a hospital pulmonary rehabilitation(PR)program for patients with moderate to severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Methods:Participants aged 40 years and over,with moderate to severe COPD,were recruited into this 12-week *** primary outcome measures were feasibility(acceptability of the intervention and attendance/adherence to the trial)and safety(adverse events,AEs).All participants received the MET and PR *** and assessors were ***-standardized MET was delivered on 6 occasions(a maximum of once per week)at the hospital directly before a PR *** undertook PR sessions as per the hospital program at a frequency of two days per week for 8 *** were contacted 4 weeks after their final MET treatment via a telephone call to assess acceptability of the ***:Thirty-three participants were enrolled,with a median age of 74 years(range 45-89 years).The median number of MET sessions that participants attended was 5(range O-6)out of a possible 6 sessions(83%attendance).At follow-up,participants overwhelmingly enj.yed the MET treatment with some subj.ctively reporting improved *** were no maj.r AEs related to the intervention,with the maj.rity of AEs classified as expected events related to COPD ***:It is feasible to implement a manual therapy protocol using MET as an adj.nct to PR in a hospital *** rates were satisfactory and there were no AEs related to the MET component of the intervention.

Nitrogen containing austenitic stainless steels(N-ASS)are widely utilized to fabricate various structural components in tokamak type fusion reactors owing to their suitable mechanical and functional *** components are exposed to a range of temperatures(4-500 K)and interact closely with the magnetic fields that are used to control and contain the plasma within the tokamak ***-40(N40)or XM-11 stainless steel is one such N-ASS used for fabricating structural components in the mag-netic and vacuum vessel systems in tokamak *** of most of the larger components in the magnetic and vacuum vessel systems typically involves some type of fusion-based welding *** study presents a double-sided friction stir welding(FSW)approach as an alternative to fusion welding processes to j.in 12 mm thick N40 plates to obtain j.ints with a low fraction ofδferrite(a detrimen-tal ferromagnetic phase),high j.int efficiency,no sensitization and loss of hardness in the heat affected zone,and minimal nitrogen desorption from the weld *** double-sided FSW approach yielded superior weldments when compared to similar j.ints accomplished by fusion welding for application in tokamak devices.

Purpose:To examine the j.int associations between meeting guidelines for physical activity(PA)and sleep duration and all-cause mortality risk among ***:Participants were adults(n=282,473)aged 18-84 years who participated in the 2004-2014 *** Health Interview *** status was ascertained using the National Death Index through December ***-reported PA(Active:meeting both aerobic(AER)and muscle-strengthening(MSA)guidelines,AER only(AER),MSA only(MSA),or not meeting either AER or MSA(Inactive))and sleep duration(Short,recommended(Rec),or Long)were classified according to guidelines,and 12 PA-sleep categories were *** hazard ratios and 95%confidence intervals(95%CIs)for all-cause mortality risk were estimated using Cox proportional hazards regression ***:A total of 282,473 participants(55%females)were included;18,793 deaths(6.7%)occurred over an average follow-up of 5.4 *** to the Active-Rec group,all other PA-sleep groups were associated with increased mortality risk except for the Active-Short group(hazard ratio=1.08;95%CI:0.92-1.26).The combination of long sleep with either MSA or Inactive appeared to be *** a given sleep duration,mortality risk progressively increased among participants classified as AER,MSA,and *** each activity level,the mortality risk was greatest among adults with long ***:Relative to adults meeting guidelines for both PA and sleep duration,adults who failed to meet guidelines for both AER and muscle strengthening PA and who also failed to meet sleep duration guidelines had elevated all-cause mortality *** results support interventions targeting both PA and sleep duration to reduce mortality risk.

Supercapacitors formed from porous carbon and graphene-oxide(GO)materials are usually dominated by either electric double-layer capacitance,pseudo-capacitance,or *** to these combined features,reduced GO materials have been shown to offer superior capacitance over typical nanoporous carbon materials;however,there is a significant variation in reported values,ranging between 25 and 350 F g^(−1).This undermines the structure(e.g.,oxygen functionality and/or surface area)-performance relationships for optimization of cost and scalable *** work demonstrates important structure-controlled charge storage *** this,a series of exfoliated graphene(EG)derivatives are produced via thermal-shock exfoliation of GO precursors and following controlled graphitization of EG(GEG)generates materials with varied amounts of porosity,redox-active oxygen groups and graphitic *** results show significantly varied capacitance values between 30 and 250 F g^(−1)at 1.0 A g^(−1)in GEG structures;this suggests that for a given specific surface area the redox-active and hydrophilic oxygen content can boost the capacitance to 250–300%higher compared to typical mesoporous carbon *** with identical oxygen functionality show a surface area governed *** allows to establish direct structure-performance relationships between 1)redox-active oxygen functional concentration and capacitance and 2)surface area and capacitance.
